What I didn't see in the chat is that the other dog stayed behind and protected the flock. The crazy thing is that they weren't mindlessly fighting coyotes as part of an instinct. They were protecting. While Daisy stayed behind as a last line of defence, Casper stood his ground like a true Spartan and John Wick'd the life out of those hapless coyotes. I can imagine those coyotes that survived the purge telling this story for generations.
Here in Eastern Europe, we have a large shepherd dogs called karakachans, their behaviour is instinctively different in different settings. If they are walking through a village wit the sheep they are totally calm and gentle. If they are on the hills with the sheep and you are NOT the shepherd DO NOT go near them. If they are at the owner's house and the owner welcomes you they are welcoming and will protect you. If not they will not let you in. They dont have to be taught this, this is how they behave. They are big enough to see off wolves.
I'm amazed by his tenacity. That pack's biggest and last mistake was coming to that property. While his partner Daisy relocated and guarded the herd, Casper engaged in a 1 vs 11 battle with coyotes and took out 8. At 20 months old, he put 8 out of 11 coyotes on a t-shirt. That's no dog, that's the Ghost of Sparta!!!
they said 8 out of 11 dead on the property , i bet he followed the other 3 till he hit the den. took out the other 3 and then any that might have been there. then made his way back home and continued his job till he was found. this has to be the most epic sh*t i have ever heard!!!!!!! 🧐
@@blueskies195 That definitely might be the case, because he temporarily strayed for two days. At 20 months he instinctively knew to take a different route home, in order to throw any potential followers off his trail. He's a whole ambassador of the breed.
I did a handyman job in Priceville and the lady who owns the property had one of these Pyrones dogs (looks just under a year old) just show up one day on her farm out of nowhere . He just started protecting the animals instinctively without any training and has never left. She said "guess I have a dog now". Those are amazing animals.
Yeah, Great Pyrenees (from real LGD lines -- not the pets with some Gold Retriever mixed in :) are instinctive guardians. They need to be around the livestock from the time they're pups to bond with them, but they don't have to be trained like one would train a GSD for police dog work, or anything like that. In fact, it's a pain in the arse to train those dogs to do anything, because they are super independent-minded. Very smart, but they make their own decisions. Same with the other LGDs, like the Turkish "Anatolians" and the Caucasian Ovcharkas and such.
Do you mean Pyrenean mountains mastiff? In Spain we use Pyrenean mastiffs for centuries to protect our animals and homes, they are great working dogs but also are AMAZING family dogs, they love kids and has lots of patience, here they use to fight wolves :o

@Cosmic Muffin ... I feel you about backing him up with a firearm, but: (1) its just too dangerous for your dog in a close quarters crazy fight amongst canines at 3AM; (2) in many places with high population density its unwise and unsafe (not to mention very often illegal) to discharge a firearm** in a residential area; and (3) he may not own a firearm. The point is, he probably had some reasons for acting as he did. What's more, we're always better off giving folks the benefit of a reasonable doubt. ** Where I have to live at the moment, shooting even an arrow or airgun with a capacity above a particular PSI is illegal. They need to make a movie about what Casper did those 2-3 days, what a hero and great warrior he is protecting those helpless sheep & his family against great odds
The story says this dog killed 8 coyotes, I've yet to see the proof. The dog's owner is a pastor so I wouldn't be surprised if that story is completely embellished.
This is a classic example of courage, loyalty and heroism. Dogs in many ways have better qualities than humans. We can learn from them and having them near brings out our empathy.
We don’t learn though that’s the issue. How long are people going to claim that ) humanity is fallen and education and watching your dog isn’t going to fix it.
Gave me chills . I would’ve been extremely proud if it was my dog. Which I’m sure you are. That dog deserves to be taken care of for the rest of his life.

For those saying Casper won't be happy indoors because he's a livestock guardian dog: When a livestock guardian dog acquires catastrophic injury or just gets older than dirt, I can tell you from experience they are just as happy to be indoors guarding the home, the humans and the other pets. You're correct that they have thousands of years of genetics telling them what they need to do. My livestock guardian dog was 14 when I brought her in the house. She had severe arthritis and dysplasia. She was quite happy to be indoors because she still had a job to do. She was having trouble getting around outside and her genetics told her to fight anything that came onto the property. She was too old to be fighting, it would have killed her. For the last two and a half years of her life, until she was 16 and 1/2, she was more than happy to be indoors still doing her job. She still likes to go outside and play in the snow, but she was more than thrilled to come in when she was done and lay on her soft cushiony bed. Yes, working dogs need to work, but there are plenty of jobs of working dog will do that don't require them to be in harm's Way anymore once they are injured or elderly. It's more of an adjustment for the humans than it is for the guardian dog

Similar experience but with an Akita. I had moved out and created a farmstead in Arizona 30 years ago and as part of this life journey did a rescue for an 2 year old Akita who had been abused as a fighting dog. I named her Kuraokami as she was indeed a dragon. I spent 6 months gaining her trust and nursing her back to health. Late one evening as I was cleaning up I heard a tremendous howling and ruckus coming from the back of my property. Kuraokami was not in the area and, if you have every had an Akita, you know they don't bark or make a a lot of noise at all. I grabbed my 30-30 and ran to where the noise was coming from. My heart sank as I knew there was a pack of the coyotes in the area, and their trick to get a quick meal, was to lure dogs out into the scrub brush and take them down by shear numbers. I ran out and came up on Kuraokami in a clearing. She was surrounded by, what was left, of a pack of coyotes. 6 lay dead around her, and another 6 still circled. I raise my 30-30 but watched in amazement as one tried to flank her, and she spun on one back foot, grabbed it by the neck snapped it in one fluid motion and killed it without even losing any flow and faced the pack again.. seeming to grin in pure enjoyment. After the pack saw this latest member of the pack die and then smelled me they high tailed it off into the desert and I never was bother by them again. Kuraokami followed me home and fell asleep at the foot of my bed like nothing happened. The loyalty, power and elegance of this breed of dog is amazing and my love for them has never since faltered. RIP Kuraokami you will always be remembered, loved and dearly missed by your former partner and friend. See you in the stars soon.

Retiring a working dog too early will most likely just leave him miserable. These dogs are live for their herds…forcing him to be an indoor dog before he’s ready would be more of a punishment.
he's only 20 months old still not full grown, he's barely out of puppyhood, like a 15 yr old kid. This is why many dogs have their tails and ears docked. Attacking packs of canids go for those to pin them down while the rest of the pack attacks. I'd have had the vet dock the ears after that to prevent coyotes from holding him. Looks like they almost took one of his ears off.

So don’t go provoking and looking for malice where there isn’t any, it’s not a good way to get by in life, be careful.
He deserves dog of the year award what an amazing dog and story! Courage and loyalty on another level
You can vote for him for Farm Dog of the Year.
Rumor has it there was once a white dog with one blue eye that killed eight coyotes with a pencil.
@@karlklein2966we wondered why he spit on it. Then we saw him use it on Bob and we laugh/cried until Casper came after us.
To be warriors again... this world has become so pathetic.

Lol, sounds like he was sent from above, hope she takes good care of him.
He was looking for work and found it.

For those saying Casper won't be happy indoors because he's a livestock guardian dog:
When a livestock guardian dog acquires catastrophic injury or just gets older than dirt, I can tell you from experience they are just as happy to be indoors guarding the home, the humans and the other pets.
Thanks for sharing a great story, about another amazing dog.

Sometimes, you need to chisel a hole in their echo chamber and highlight the confirmation bias.
Religion is on the decline globally, because of technology primarily, information and knowledge is any religions cryptonite.
I'm just doing my small bit to hurry it along, for my children and my children's children, so we may live in a world where objective morality is the foundation for society, not archaic superstitions.
That dog has a lot of heart. Killed 8 out of 11. And lived to tell the story. Keep him close, keep him safe. He will do the same for you if it comes to it...
Absolutely. That dog's not gonna retire anytime soon if there are immediate threats. My guess is he finished off the pack, or plans to.
8 that could be identified, who knows if the other 3 lived, they couldn't even find Casper wherever he ran off. Maybe he followed them back to the den and removed them all from the food chain. It's only unfortunate that so many animals needed to die, and become injured. Nature is a cold mother.
That man should be the one to protect Casper and his Family from now on.
@@Freeman-Dl70 Exactly. However, for me there is something not right about the story. I don't think it is how that man says it is. He's hiding something and making the dog out to be a hero (which I think it is) is a convenient distraction from deeper probing.
Hope his dog recovers fully.
@@Megan-ii4gf If they're all gone more will take over the space later, it's why it's pointless to kill them.
Coyotes: "Are you nuts? It's 11 vs 1"
Casper: "Indeed. Bad for you folks"
Well done, Casper! As a shepherd of sheep and a Pyrenees LGD owner, I suspect that Casper will not be happy until he is back with the flock. Pyrenees need a job to do; it is in their DNA. I’ve tried bringing ours in during bad weather but he is very unhappy indoors and wants to be with his flock. Get well soon, Casper!❤️
just build your pup a little cabin above ground with plenty of straw on the floor and a good enough roof that no water will get in and he'll be all set
Sounds like he could use some more backup if he does go back out there.
I agree. It's part of his noble bloodline to defend the yard. Putting him indoors would crush his pride and dignity. He'll let them know when he's ready to kill more coyotes.
As a shepherd, was it right to let the fight go on for a half hour, knowing the dog was so outnumbered and alone? He had 30 mins to think of some way to assist the dog. Seems like even the sound of a few shotgun blasts into the air would have helped.
@abbythehounddog3993 I mentioned a shotgun blast in the air. Did I say anything about calling him in like an obedient puppy? If my dog had been out there outnumbered 11: 1, I would do whatever was within my power to help even the odds. Not sit listening to the carnage for 30 minutes.
The legend of Casper. What he did was unbelievable. The loyalty and fighting spirit.
And Casper was 2 years old! Incredible
What a show of strength, determination and courage. Coyotes are opportunistic animals, but not against Casper. Hoping he makes a strong recovery and takes it easy.
No guns. Just Working Dogs vs. Coyote. Respect. Casper kicked butt fair and square and did his job. Coyotes aren't back to his property for a while.
Regrouping with you squad after 11 kill streak with 1hp left. Respect!
This is amazing truly. What a warrior. What a spectacular beast. What a good, good dog. Your love for him is clear. Thank you for posting this.
Amen, on all counts!
I bet that his blue eye glows like the Terminator.
That's not just a dog. He's a warrior taking scalps. I pray he heals perfectly soon. Such a cute brave boy.
I wouldn't leave my dog to fight off 11 Coyotes alone though.
I thought the same thing. I own a property where coyotes and all kinds of wild life roam. I always have a gun nearby. If you have sheep I would think you would have a gun. 30 minutes is way more than enough time to grab the gun. Their lucky he survived.
I wonder if this was the only guardian dog on the property...
@@anitragavin5000 this implies the man has a business mowing down lawns wish his sheep. There were two other dogs, he said that within the first minute of the video. Over ten coyotes and one herd dog, you're not going to shoot.
@@anitragavin5000 no the female took the sheep to a corner to guard them

@@ChesireHeart you certainly would overhead!
That dogs abilities as a protective shepherd dog are extraordinary to say the least. You would think his value as a stud for those that seek pups that possess the same shepherding genetic makeup as this dog to be priceless. This dog deserves recognition.
Prob why this hick faked this whole story, up his dogs breeding pricetag
I would take one of Casper’s pups in a heartbeat especially if I had sheep.
God bless this precious pup!!!! I am soooooooo sorry you were hurt!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Joannie
What a warrior! I'm really glad he survived and got the medical assistance that he needed.
Good boy Casper!
Thank you so much for sharing the story. What a wonderful tribute to livestock guardian dogs.
That dog has a massive amount of strength, edurance and stamina. It's not easy to fight out numbered fights for such a long time.
Sending love Casper from Scotland what a Brave Boy.
Incredible dog protecting his family at all costs.....bless him
What a brave, strong, loyal, beautiful boy Casper is!!!!! He is so special and now he deserves to live the best retirement he can possibly have! God job Casper ☺️❤️
Coyote: You are outnumbered 😏
Casper:You are outmatched👹
Damn
@@zachryder3150 Casper went on a kick azz spree!!!!!!😂
Coyotes: 😱😱😱
Raven Tree farm have three guardian dogs. That’s a good number as they work as a team. Two face the predators while one stays with the herd. Brilliant to watch.
What a good boy ..protecting his home ...his herd. Prayers for his continued healing
Prayers have been tested and demonstrated to not work.
It's 2022, not the 1800s.

Casper is a hero dog. There are no other words to describe this magnificent canine. He's a true soldier and deserves to live the rest of his life in peace and comfort. This story could have turned out so much worse than it did, but wow Casper is on a different level than most dog's. This story made me smile so dang much when I found out he lived and got good quality care. :D
This dog deserves the highest of respect from all humans.
Casper when his owner found him in the chicken coop:
“I’m tired boss..”
