      We had a Brazilian mastiff that was the same way. That he wasn't socialized well by his first owners didn't help. On walks, he was a beautifully behaved and polite guy, but on our property, we always had to be very particular about how we introduced him to anyone new.
      He slipped and fell on the ice on our back patio one day and badly injured his hips/back. He couldn't get up to walk so my mom and I had to carry/limp him back inside. It had to have hurt him, but he didn't growl once. Unfortunately, at his size and age and with his pre existing back end issues, we had to put him to sleep. He wasn't an easy/low maintenance dog, but he was a very good boy.

      Other groomers aren’t turning him away because they want to, but most of us don’t have walk in showers or lax grooming regulations like her. All tubs at my salon are lifted meaning if he wouldn’t go up the stairs, I couldn’t do it. Also, unless you work for yourself like her, it is against safety regulations at most salons to do a dog on the ground untethered like that. Meaning he can only go to a groomer who works for themselves and has a step in tub. A lot of which are pretty old people and can’t handle dogs this size anyways so they also have to be on the younger side.
      Sometimes she says some weird stuff, but what I think she meant by “encouraging them” is to get this specific kind of groomer to reach out.

      You are so right. I've had Rottweilers. They are such sweet babies. Pits also. They are super sweet babies. It upsets me when people who talk crap about either breed, especially when they act like Chihuahuas are little angels like they've never met dogs before in life. If anyone has ever met a naughty pit, Rottweiler, or pinscher, it's the owner you really need to avoid like the plague for being a bad human being.

    • @Eagle3302PL
      @Eagle3302PL 22 дня назад +4

      @@Meggzilla Animals have temperaments and attitudes that can manifest regardless of training, my sister owns 2 puppies from the same litter, they're being raised together and both have vastly different personalities. One is terrified of everything and jumpy at home but very good on walks, the other is good at home but a menace when he sees strangers and barks at everything that moves when on a walk.
      You hear stories all the time of pits and other supposedly dangerous dogs that have been an angel and well behaved throughout their life until they snapped one day. They were bred to be aggressive and no amount of good vibes is gonna change the fact that they are many times more likely to unpredictably snap than mellower breeds. It's about how willing you are to play the lottery with them, but most people don't want to end up as victims of your gambling on good vibes.

Your constant nattering is probably really helpful, because he’s hearing praise and calm even tho none of what you’re doing makes any sense to him. He LOVED tradesmen, and would run out the front door by a metre (never further because that would be rude and naughty) and flop all 65kg of him on the ground in protest so these nice strangers wouldnt leave. Sure there can be some kind of storm in the Ural-mountains ....but they do not exactly carry any sort of fame for storms. That mountain range isn't specially high either ....hence does not create big weather stuff. Don't know why Ural-mountains came to your mind since that type of dog does not come from there ...and also Ural-mountains are hardly not populated at all ...hence no dogs. It is in it's name ....it come from the Caucasus mountains which are 2-3 times higher in elevation (Mt. Elbrus 5642 meter / 18510 feet ...highest in Europe ) and are located over 2000 km away from closest part of Ural. The Caucasus region has plenty of people and do a lot of sheep herding in that extremely mountainous region....hence there are need for sheperd dogs. I've seen them in action in that very region ....right under Mt. Kazbek (5042 meter) in Georgia and in Sevan district in Armenia.

    With ovcharkas, it very much depends on the line you get. Show line ovcharkas are much more placid and on the larger side, whereas working line are much more ferocious and on the smaller end

      @wheresmycheese8511
      My dad hunts in marshlands for birds and has always had a female working line black lab as a hunting partner. Its gotten to the point of where they are almost a different breed from the show lines. They are built differently, generally more slender, a bit smaller, smarter and have drive to retrieve for days.
      Outside of hunting season, he spends an hour or 2 a day having her retrieve tennis balls or do nosework to find retrieving dummies. Such is her drive to retrieve things, she needs to run and retrieve every single day. I would say having a working dog is generally "too much dog" for the average person unless it is going to perform the task it is meant to perform.

      I've met several corrupted guard dogs, one pair of white jindos and another time a golden retriever who would suck up the petting and attention until one day their owners came out of the house and they'd jump back and emit a few barks to make it look like they weren't slacking. Of the 2 jindos, when almost getting busted, one looked up at the sky like he didn't see me and the other proceeded to bark at the ground near me, from the approaching owner, it would look as if he was barking at me but from my angle, he was clearly barking at a stepping stone, I give that last dog credit for smart thinking in a pinch!

    I've had one of those fluffy bears... passive resisistance like "i'm just gonna sit here no matter how hard you're going to push me, try me honey" is just their thing, at least from my experience. Bite, growl? Never. But when she REALLY didn't like something she just didn't cooperate AT ALL. She was like "try to do what you want if you have to, but don't count on me on this! I'm officially turning into a mountain unless you change your mind and leave me alone". And since she was huge... well...
    We called her a tank.

    That is truly the biggest dog I've ever seen. Kudos to you for a successful groom. The largest dog we had was an Akita/Lab mix, and he was only 110 pounds. But much like this fellow, he didn't have an aggressive bone in his body. Because he grew up with cats, he took to laying on the back of the couch, and was happy to have kittens use him for a jungle gym. It's been nearly twenty years and I miss him still.

      I had an Akita Lab mix as well. At least, mom was Akita ( pure bred, papers carrying show dog ), dad was a volunteer that I assume was a black lab. He was a sweet pup. One of his brothers was NOT a sweet pup. So, either I did a better job of raising mine, or there's a genetic roll of the dice as well.

    Wow, are you kidding me? The dog didn't even react to having his nails clipped? I have yet to have a dog that doesn't hate that. Man, I fell in love with this dog. What a beautiful animal. I've had mostly huge dogs throughout my life and this one is really special. Choosing a dog based on temperament and not looks is really key. Some dogs have really high energy and if you choose that dog, it is on YOU to keep up with that energy. If you want a dog that works will a sedentary life, choose the one that is NOT running up to you right away. Choose the one that is chilling.

    • @CynthiasTikka
      @CynthiasTikka 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! Many so called bad dogs are just dogs with owners that don't have the same energy level as the dog or don't work off that energy. You have to put in the time, work, and commitment to your dog and their energy levels . An old sedentary couple in the same dog training class as me have the most hyper dog I've seen in a long time. A ton of barking and non-stop wiggle butt is how the dog is the whole time during the session. Only settled down when given a puzzle treat. The dog doesn't get walked a lot of days. 😮 That dog needs like a 2-3 hour run every day to get some energy drained. Choose a lower energy level dog than yourself or the same, at most.
