I think you’re right, in terms of the sheer diversity of good music. I think the music of the 70s was a bit more pure fun, but there was probably less of the really good stuff.
Having come from Leeds (West Yorkshire), the next major city over from where DEF LEPPARD come from (Sheffield, South Yorkshire), I grew up listening to them on radio, and regular interviews on Yorkshire TV, and teen kids shows of the 80's... BUT, never actually saw them live until I emigrated to Canada! 2019 at the Calgary Saddle Dome, what an absolutely brilliant concert...Wished I'd have gone and seen then years ago...!!!

@@Kaddywompous maybe but some hit kinda different. KSE, Godsmack, Lamb of God, In Flames, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains... and the perennial Korn... were 00's standouts...
Ain't gonna lie....80's were a hell of a time to be alive. Good times, good fun, GREAT concerts!! Also, Brad nails the song dissection again. This just ain't Lex's day hahah!
Def Leppard isn't near my Top 5 bands, but this is my all-time favorite song. It has the catchiest chorus ever written and invokes so much emotion, even if you have no clue what the song is about (it's about Marilyn Monroe and the official video would have made that obvious). So glad you guys decided to react to this classic!
3:07-... this is the comment OF THE YEAR! ..right there bro! It was such a refreshing decade as compared to now and ..the last 15 years in general. Yea FREEDOM!!! I just love you too, my kinda people!!!🎶🎵
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song and this album. I was stationed on the USS Nimitz and I was in Naples, Italy on shore leave at a little dive called the Number #1 piano bar.
I saw them twice in concert, and this was final encore song both times...never disappoints, and always brings a small tear to the eye😥😊 This song is a tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe...The story of a guy that fell in love with old photographs of Marilyn Monroe, but she was already gone....
There was a lot of angst in the 80s, but it was certainly the most generally optimistic decade I've lived through. One of the reasons (IMO) the music reflects that was (sorry, Brad) because of the synthesizer becoming affordable for "regular" garage and bar bands, but before the advent of autotune and digital workstations. For the first time in a long time, musicians had access to an entirely new sonic palette, and every rule was fair game to be broken, but they still had to be reasonably decent musicians. Couple that with the rise of hip hop and rap, and you have a recipe for a really innovative period. There was a lot of experimentation (and a *lot* of it was terrible - come listen to my records some day), but it's one of the main reasons music really started ossifying afterward. Arguably, the only real new tool we've gotten since has been computer-based recording and editing, which has certainly produced things we haven't heard before, but it's also given us the power to autotune everything into oblivion and suck the life out of things in the name of perfection. Brad, you nailed it, though - when this song came out, it was blasting on my walkman (along with Styx, Rush, Van Halen, Genesis, and Prince) almost every time I rode my bike over to my friends' houses. And more than once, it was blasting on the boom box I had balanced on my handlebars.
Couldn't agree more. You said something I've tried to put into words before. That huge tech window opening up and leading to tons of cool experimentation was what made that era special. *Yeah, I guess some might argue that something similar happened with electric guitars, etc... Also I think Mtv had a lot to do with the whole 80s thing.
@@hughmoore3251 I almost mentioned MTV as another piece of the puzzle. :) And your mention of the electric guitar is right in the same line - it gave all sorts of new timbres and textures for musicians to play with. I'm not an "all modern music sucks" person - I just think that the rate of progress started slowing drastically after about 1994 as DAWs and the Internet started democratizing the tools of production and the labels/industry became more and more conservative about what they threw their money behind. It's not that I think modern productions/artists are *bad* - it's just boring (for me) - I've heard all many times before. The Pink Floyds and Fleetwood Macs of the world were given time to develop; after the mid-90s, if you didn't already have a fan base (usually via a viral hit) or sound exactly like something else that had already made money, you likely weren't getting a deal. Exceptions to that abound, especially today, but they're mostly in the fringes and micro genres, and that's where I find the most interesting new stuff. But it's tough finding some of this when every mumbling 14 year old now has a 1980s level pro studio in his or her laptop, but not necessarily the talent to use it well - the signal to noise ratio is just too high. (And to anyone who thinks I'm saying it was all fantastic back in the day, it wasn't. Those songs just don't get played any more. But they do show up when I'm on full-shuffle with my library, and when the 70s and 80s were bad, they were *really* bad.)
I feel sorry for anyone who can't be happy and carefree when listening to this song. Evokes memories of pure joy and unbridled freedom. You nailed it, Brad. And Lex? You make me smile more than any other reactor, period. YOU are pure joy when you bop along to a really catchy tune! Great combination!
I was a young teen in the 80's when this came out and U guys got it exactly right, don't know if ya realize what a HUGE monster anthem hit this was, it IS like freedom and it was the soundtrack to a zillion teenage crushes etc... believe it or not but this was considered a form of heavy metal at the time, better times in a lot of ways IMHO.
I listened to Pyromania nearly everyday for like almost two years straight lol the CD just stayed in my player in my car…nothing like that to put you in a good mood for work 👌🏼😂🔥
I love watching you guys. Like watching my kids. Brads so mellow and introspective like my boy, plus he rocks that beard like my boy. Lex is a bundle of Joyful energy. Loves new music and really feels it. You 2 are a joy. God bless y’all and can’t wait to see your little man when he gets here
The 80's was solid. Love Lex! The 80's was solid! Just wanted to say Hi! Why??? "Put your hurt on me...etc" Yeah! Other possibilities...Depeche Mode or, "Hungry like the Wolf ", Ahhh, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Spellbound. Yeah! I get it! What's up Brad! Solid! Yeah!
The first three albums of Def Leppard are still the best for me, On Through the Night, High N Dry, and Pyromania classic albums that has each and every song epic and phenomenal. Got to see them in 80, 81, and 83
LOL It's funny Brad said this sounds like music you get on your bike and ride to because when this song/album came out my friends and I would ride around the neighborhood with a boom box I got for Christmas strapped to my handlebars rocking out to this cassette (and many others).
The High School version of me that only exists in my mind nowadays is bopping right along with you guys. This album (Pyromania) was something you didn't play a song or two off of, you just played the whole album because it just got better and better. Have fun with it.
From the first time I heard this track back in 1983 it has been my favorite Def Leppard song. It brings back so many great memories. Oh to be young again. They are one of my top 2 concert bands.
Brad is right ,it is freedom music, I graduated in 82 and Supertramped it across America, Def Leppard was one of the cassettes I brought for the trip. They are such high energy!
If you ever get a chance to download the whole CD or find the CD in a record store, get Pyromania by Def Leppard. You will not be disappointed. Every single song on that CD is solid!!! I think Lex was totally feeling the "cowbell" in the pre-chorus of the song! Great reaction!
@@granolaswab I prefer physical copies, yes! If you buy all your music on Spotify and Spotify goes out of business your music is probably going down with them. Just how I feel about it anyways. Physical is always better imho.
@@rivanlords1 If you want to have something physical, buy vinyl records. they sound amazing. the covers alone are a work of art. Especially with 80s Hard rock and Metal bands. Vinyl rules and is still in demand. even the younger generation is buying vinyl. and no, they are not all hipsters.
I used to doodle stuff on my folders in school to emulate Def Leppard's writing. I also made a huge valentine's heart with a bite for "Love Bites".. prolly the coolest 5th grader ever!
Yes! Def Leppard appreciation! Freedom is the perfect word to describe the feelings they evoked in my youth. Listening to Def Leppard on my boom box with my friends in the 80s.
Wow, I love your reactions. "He don't want that photograph, he wants to touch!". This is why they need us Brad. And Lex, you otta tour with em on the cowbell!
I remember there was a period of time where every time you listened to the radio, Def Leppard was bathing the airwaves in super good, happy vibes. Saw them live in concert and was totally enthralled. "Fah fa fa Foolin"!
Can you imagine being in high school and jamming to this is the 80"a nothing was bad... A good time for all....you had it all rock ,dmc ,beastie boys, pink....all fun and good vibes
the curse of so many bands. Ultimatly, all bands want to sell more albums, and make more money. So they make their music more palatable for more people. They mature and lose the rawness of earlier recordings. Of all my favorite bands, I tend to favor their earlier recordings...just the way it goes
This was my running cassette "Walkman" playlist when i did my runs. I remember having to stop my runs to flip my casstte tape in my walkman to side B. my walkman was so worn out i was taping that thing shut on my long runs! Love the 80's and 90's what a time to be alive!
I haven't heard a lot of their music but this is the one I like best of what I've heard. It rocks hard without being too bombastic, it's not too over produced. Plus I think the guitar riff is just right, lean and mean.
Personally I love every song but Animal is probably my #1 favorite. Just because the song is catchy and has a great vibe to it. Same with the song run riot and most of their songs are bangers 🤘❤️🔥🎸😎
The freedom in the 80s thing and Brad talking about the bike made me think of every movie opening that would've been acceptable in the 80s. Just imagine a kid riding on a bike with a camera in the air as this song plays. As the song starts to fade out the scene goes to a school setting (maybe in a hallway or classroom)
As someone that had this song on an album and then on multiple cassettes then on a CD and now download it to stream it makes me so incredibly happy when different generations find the kick ass music we had in the 70s and 80s loving your channel
I was 20 in 1983 and the 80's music is the best to me. This whole album is good. Van Halen 1984 is great too. I like all the hair bands. Keep it up guys.
Should have watched the one with the music video. Rick Allen still had 2 arms until after the tour that followed this album.... glad to see you guys enjoy this one so much. Always been one of my favorite songs. First album i ever owned, 11 yrs old in 1983, and my wife and i walked into our wedding reception to this song in 2013
I was 19 when this came out - 1983, I believe. t was the first Def Leppard song/video I had heard/seen on MTV. I love Def Leppard, so this song always holds good memories of a simple, fun time being young and anticipating all this life ahead. LOVED your reaction!
Lexi, I had so much fun watching you react to this song. In *1 when this came out I turned 18 and I had just convinced my Dad to install Cable with MTV in 1981 I watched this video over and over on MTV. Thank you Y'all for doing this one It was a classic of the classics.
This is the first release off the album Pyromania. The song that turned me on to them. I was 21. You know this is a song about a stslker obsessed with Marilyn Monroe. All he had was a photograph. This entire slbum is great. My favorite is Die Hard the Hunter. Check it out.
💯 agree. I was 10 in 86 and the 80s peaked around 89 when I was 13 and stayed cool around 93. I agree with Brad the guitar sounds of the 80s was freedom like innocent and happy freedom. Racing, BMX, skateboards, hot rod, the IROC, skating rinks, summer concerts, … does anyone remember signing each other’s jeans!
my all-time favorite Def Leppard song! so many memories come to mind every time I listen to this song. so grateful to have grown up listening to and watching Def Lepp live! and I’m only 26. haha
These later reactions of you guys are really improving, esp since Brad started adding his input, when you first started out he keeps asking Lex what she thinks, we like to hear what u think as well brother.. good going on this channel, the best.
I became an adult in the 80s and it took me bit to warm up to the "hair bands" like Def Leppard. Saw them in concert in San Diego while in the navy and fell in love with them. The arena was within walking distance of the naval training center so we would walk down there and buy scalped tickets if someone good was playing. lol
Given that I was a teenage Navy brat and KGB 101.5 listener that was obsessed with all forms of hard rock, I was probably at the same concert. I saw them at the SD Sports Arena 3 times and twice at Jack Murphy Stadium. Great live band.
I was 18 when they started hitting the radio and soon after MTV, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Journey top 3 80’s Rock Groups. This song was about Marilyn Monroe and her photograph.
Brad nailed it exactly! We lived in Freedom in the 80s! We could ride our BMX bikes down a rode, stop, throw the bikes down, leave them, cut through everyone’s properties - none cared, and the dog following. Hardly any fences. The mall arcades were heaven to us. Adults would just leave us in the arcade, and that’s where all the good stuff happened - candy, games and other children. Good times
Amen, bro. Amen. I'd just go out with my .22 and machete into the woods for the whole day and come back at dark... at like 12yo. Lol. It was the Reagan years.
Y'all have hit on the "Real" Def Leppard - the "High n' Dry" and "Pyromania" albums are their best stuff. Check out these songs next - 'Let it Go', 'Lady Strange', 'Another Hit & Run' , 'Stagefright', 'Billy's Got a Gun', and 'Die Hard the Hunter'
Hysteria is awesome too. I heard a few months back that it just hit 30 million sales, so a hella lot of people must love it. I love the first four albums equally. Adrenalize isn't too shoddy either. Yeah, a bit popish, but decent.
My fav song from Deff leppard.Dude we did that, hop on the bike walkman in hand ride along while listening to Deff leppard. 80's was so great, culturally we were in synch. Miss those simple times.
I don't think I've seen Brad smile that much during a song. I know the feeling. There was nothing like popping this tape in, taking off the t-tops, and hitting the road. Lex's hybrid air guitar/drums is killing me...lol.
Classic...cow bells and everything! Sang this song many times at karaoke. Def Leppard never gets old! Forgot to add, one armed drummer! Leveraged his bass drum pedals to compensate
wow, this brings back a ton of memories. nothing like being 15 years old cruising in your buddies car with a couple girls and this cranked on the tape deck, those really were the days
This was the hardest music my parents aloud me to regularly listen to in my preteen to early teenage years. So many memories come flooding back to me when I hear this. I’m so enjoying y’all’s reaction to my favorite songs growing up.
Lex bopping along to the song and what Brad said about how it brings back that “Freedom from the 80s” vibe is amazing. I love the takes you guys bring out with every video. You guys are amazing.
Actually Def Leppard relied a lot on technology after their drummer Rick Allen got into a car reck and lost an arm in 1984. So he had to switch to an all digital drum set. That's why they have that signature electronic digital drum sound after 1984.
Def Leppard is top 3 bands of the 80s no question for me. I was born in '90 and I rock them to this day like it's the fall of 1983. Photograph had to have been the top song of '83. The song literally never gets old.
That second verse really does describe Lex! "....such a woman you've got style, you make every man feel like a child...youve got some kind of hold on me....."
OMG Brad you hit the nail on the head. I can remember driving my 1969 Mustang through the Texas hill country in the 80's blaring these bands...Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, April Wine, Van Halen, STYX, Atlanta Rhythm Section, ACDC, Triumph, Loverboy, Rush..... The list goes on and on.
With a band like def leppard it's impossible to just like one song! Yes I love this song and they have so many other bangers too. For example Run Riot, Die hard the hunter, Foolin, comin under fire,Rocket,Animal,Pour some Sugar on me,Rock of ages, and photograph. If you haven't heard the other songs you won't be disappointed
My FAVORITE Def Leppard song. They are so so so good! Brad is right on this one Lex lol. Joe Elliott had a huge crush on Marilyn Monroe and he wrote this song about her
this was the song that really pulled me vacuumed me sucked me drawn me into rock. before this song i listened to everything. but this song was the song that would give me day dreams while listening to it. the song that would give me that dream of i want to rock in front of people on the stage. it was truly genius.
Great band to see live !!! I’ve been to see them 3 times so far. You two should really look into the stadium tour scheduled for later this summer with Def Leppard, Motley Crüe, Poison and Joan Jett !!!
One of the greatest rock songs of the 80's. Man, def leppard was so good back then. Probably the biggest band of the 80s when you consider they are the only rock band to have had two consecutive selling 10+ million albums that decade. 🤟
@@NeonNights80 I wish I'd have been 6 or 7 years older and I'd have been able to experience them properly in their prime. My auntie bought me Hysteria for my 8th birthday in 88. Luckily I got to see them for the adrenalize tour. Saw their homecoming gig at don valley stadium in 93.

@@Kaddywompous maybe but some hit kinda different. KSE, Godsmack, Lamb of God, In Flames, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains... and the perennial Korn... were 00's standouts...
@@randybethune5854 I hadn’t really considered that. Good point.
The 80’s did feel like freedom. Great point Brad.
“I’ll Wait” is a really good Van Halen tune with a similar theme.
Ain't gonna lie....80's were a hell of a time to be alive. Good times, good fun, GREAT concerts!!
Also, Brad nails the song dissection again. This just ain't Lex's day hahah!
80s were pure HEAVEN
Def Leppard isn't near my Top 5 bands, but this is my all-time favorite song. It has the catchiest chorus ever written and invokes so much emotion, even if you have no clue what the song is about (it's about Marilyn Monroe and the official video would have made that obvious). So glad you guys decided to react to this classic!
It sure is about having a crush on Marilyn Monroe and only having a photograph of her because she’s gone! 🤷🏻♂️
3:07-... this is the comment OF THE YEAR! ..right there bro!
I was on the Nimitz. Were you early 80’s?
@@toddthousand1976 1980-1984. I had a couple bands while I was on the Nimitz and I actually sang on the flight deck during the steel Beach picnics.
@@neillenet291 Awesome! I was on the New Jersey around then and headed to Bremerton in 87 after the Nimitz moved.
@@toddthousand1976 thank you for your service
@@neillenet291 You as well
I saw them twice in concert, and this was final encore song both times...never disappoints, and always brings a small tear to the eye😥😊
This song is a tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe...The story of a guy that fell in love with old photographs of Marilyn Monroe, but she was already gone....
im 29 and saw them in 2019 and although i bet it wasnt nearly the same as back in the 80s it was still crazy
thats it !!!! Joe Elliott said it before on stage ☺
Awesome I saw them on this tour and again on Hysteria.
Brad hit the nail right on the head with this reaction. I love how much Lex loves Def Leppard!! Excellent.
I was 18 and got my first car when this song hit and I’d literally ride around blasting it and feeling FREE!
Incredible memories associated with hearing this album. This came out my senior year and most everyone I knew played it to death.
God bless y’all and can’t wait to see your little man when he gets here
Def Leppard owned the 80’s and early 90’s. They still bring it live. Incredible band!!
The 80's was solid. Love Lex! The 80's was solid! Just wanted to say Hi!
Why??? "Put your hurt on me...etc"
Yeah!
Other possibilities...Depeche Mode or, "Hungry like the Wolf ",
Ahhh, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Spellbound. Yeah!
Not a bad song on the whole album.none🤘
Yep.
Agreed! This is nearly a perfect album!
Absolutely!! Sux getting old!
Over and over and over.......
From the first time I heard this track back in 1983 it has been my favorite Def Leppard song. It brings back so many great memories. Oh to be young again. They are one of my top 2 concert bands.
Every Def Leppard album is a blast. You cannot go wrong with any of their songs. You know a song is good when Lex starts air guitaring.
Brad is right ,it is freedom music,
I graduated in 82 and Supertramped it across America, Def Leppard was one of the cassettes I brought for the trip.
Facts
People still buy CDs? Lol.
I'm from Sheffield. Love def Leppard. I'm a hip hop fan. Classic rock songs could all be used for rap.
Brad's interpitation was completely correct. Every song on this album was great. One of the most complete albums ever.
Can you imagine being in high school and jamming to this is the 80"a nothing was bad... A good time for all....you had it all rock ,dmc ,beastie boys, pink....all fun and good vibes
This album was the turning point for me. High and Dry was and still is my favorite album. Pyromania started to become more pop rock/less hard rock.
Yes nothing beats high and dry!
the curse of so many bands.
You should check out more songs from them...especially all the songs off the Pyromania and Hysteria albums 🤘🎸😎
Yeah, it was and continues to be a wonderful song. The chorus and harmonies are amazing, and the heavy bass/guitar sound.
As someone that had this song on an album and then on multiple cassettes then on a CD and now download it to stream it makes me so incredibly happy when different generations find the kick ass music we had in the 70s and 80s loving your channel
Brad's right....he doesn't want the photo, he wants the real thing. lol
I saw this tour in 1983. They opened for Billy Squier. This was the hit in my high school senior class. Great show!!
Wanted so badly to go to this concert....both my jams back in the day.
I was 20 in 1983 and the 80's music is the best to me. This whole album is good. Van Halen 1984 is great too. I like all the hair bands. Keep it up guys.
Van Halen, Def Leppard , Bon Jovi... I think we got her.
ROCK ON WOMAN!
Lex is so enjoying this song! THAT is what music is for!!
Best 80s band, hands down. A large percentage of Gen X would love to go back in time. Life was so much more fun.
Yeah, I would take that trip in a heartbeat, even if i knew when the decade was over so was I. What a great F-ing time it was to live thru.
my all-time favorite Def Leppard song! so many memories come to mind every time I listen to this song. so grateful to have grown up listening to and watching Def Lepp live! and I’m only 26.
I was a Senior in High School in 1983 and this was our song! I had a 1975 Chevy Vega wagon and listened to this song a 1,000 times. Life was good!
You guys should react to…
Def Leppard - Foolin'

Yasssssssss
Yes plsss 🤘😎
Yes for `Lady Strange` that was when they werent over polished.
Nobody does Let It Go, it's time
Hysteria is awesome too.
Brad, my dude, you are spot on. And that's how we lived life back in the 80s. Wow!!!
Brad was on point lyrically with this one
80's were awesome! I graduated high-school, bought my first Harley Davidson and partied like crazy. Skid Row said it best, We are the youth gone wild!
The 80s will always be undefeated 🔥🔥
Def Leppards harmonies are incredible!!
Classic...cow bells and everything! Sang this song many times at karaoke. Def Leppard never gets old! Forgot to add, one armed drummer! Leveraged his bass drum pedals to compensate
This was before Rick Allen lost his arm in a car wreck.
Anytime a Def Leppard song comes on, i give my kids a “one arm or two” quiz! 😄
wow, this brings back a ton of memories. nothing like being 15 years old cruising in your buddies car with a couple girls and this cranked on the tape deck, those really were the days
Great one! It was written about about Marilyn Monroe. Love Def Leppard! Followed them since their beginning! And their still going strong!
This was the hardest music my parents aloud me to regularly listen to in my preteen to early teenage years. So many memories come flooding back to me when I hear this. I’m so enjoying y’all’s reaction to my favorite songs growing up.
Brad and Lex you both do such an amazing job reacting to the songs. I look forward to these everyday. Keep up the great work. The Couch Gang rules!!!!
Lex, you got it right! DL, VH and Bon Jovi are all awesome! Keep rocking!
Fun fact: the keyboards on this were played by Thomas Dolby (She Blinded Me With Science) under the name Booker T. Boffin.
Ah the 80's,what a beautiful time for music,to each its own, peace!🙋♂️🕊
"Too Late For Love" was the best song off of this album IMO.
The 80's had so many great bands. I'm 54 now. My friend and I went to SO many concerts-back in the day tickets were between $13 to $17.
God, the 80's were so awesome. This was the "Good Def Leppard" before they went soft.
Probably my favorite song that I've heard from them. Instant classic indeed.
Joe Elliott had a huge crush on Marilyn Monroe and he wrote this song about her
Probably my favorite pre-Hysteria Def Leppard song. It's still strong even when you throw Hysteria in the mix.
this was the song that really pulled me vacuumed me sucked me drawn me into rock. before this song i listened to everything. but this song was the song that would give me day dreams while listening to it. the song that would give me that dream of i want to rock in front of people on the stage. it was truly genius.
Great band to see live !!! I’ve been to see them 3 times so far. You two should really look into the stadium tour scheduled for later this summer with Def Leppard, Motley Crüe, Poison and Joan Jett !!!
All of sudden I'm 14 and watching this video on MTV all the time. Such great memories back then I really miss those days now more than ever before 🤔
One of the greatest rock songs of the 80's.
Man, def leppard was so good back then.
Probably the biggest band of the 80s when you consider they are the only rock band to have had two consecutive selling 10+ million albums that decade. 🤟
This album blew up and their next album really blew up, it was some crazy fun times.
Saw them twice in 83 when this album was out.. just a great band and album!!!
