Boba Fett vs. Ronja Rövardotter Music Theme Battle!!

- Who else has noticed that the music for the Disney series BOBA FETT bears a certain resemblance to the music from the Swedish children's film RONJA RÖVERDOTTER? I wonder if the swedish STAR WARS composer Ludwig Göransson was inspired?
- Кино
A huge chunk of Swedish culture in the Star Wars universe ;)
We love the Swedes!
Mos Espa sold iron ore to the Empire you mean?
@@lasse9706 Tung referens!
Swedes are saying "it's stolen" lmao. Guys, y'all ever heard of influence, imitation and sampling in music theory?!
@@msCabins I didn't think anyone would get it :D Love from your neighbor to the south
So glad someone other than me noticed this!
This can’t be a coincidence, there is no way Göransson has not heard the music from ronja during his childhood.
I think most swedes heard it very fast, and of course he heard it, it is a theft/borrow.
Most likely took inspirations from this amazing piece.
Of Course Ludwig heard the music as a child. But usually when it comes to how it works in Hollywood. Its the Director or Producer thats gives the composer a so called "Temp-track" with music that they believe would fit the show. It could be that easy that Jon favreu himself actually heard the Borka-song and said to Ludwig. This suit the book of Boba fett like a glove. Its usually this way around. Not the composers role to suggest music.
I hope we will get an answer for why it sounds this similar. But probably it is because Jon wanted this sound.
Me toooo. As a Swede raised in the 90ies it’s unmistakable!
Agreed!
I'm norwegian and we grew up in the 90s with Swedish children movies and I recognized the similarities straight away and was surprised and happy to find out others hade the same thought!
Same! - A swede-norwegian. In its core, we share cultures.
Book of Borka Fett
Lool 😂😂
And the Mattislorian 😂
Hahahahaha fett bra asså!!!
Bork bork bork!
And it is stolen.
Vafo? vafo? vafo? vafo?, vafo?, gö ho på detta vise? vafodådå?
The mix of cowboy-ish vibes for Boba, the maoi touches for Temuera and the swedish roots for Ludwig seriously makes for the most iconic star wars theme in YEARS
Even mando theme is fantastic
Could you give me some examples of songs that sound like this Maoi touch you're thinking of? I have no idea about their music and my basic search results don't really give me something that I can relate to Boba Fett's music. It's not just the Haka, right? I'm interested in the more melodic stuff (perhaps melodic Haka???) if that exists.
I think every swede noticed this! 😆
indeed, well I did.
Yes, for sure!
For sure
yeah, showed my swedish friend the Boba Fett theme, who is also a hobby componist as well, and he immediately pointed this out
I hope a lot finns noticed this also! :D Ronja Rövardotter and other Astrid Lindgren's books were still a huge thing in Finland when I was a child
I read an article about this months ago and when I finally started to watch this serie two days ago I’ve totally forgot about it, and when the theme song started I was like ”RONJA RÖVARDOTTER”.
My swedish childhood comes back!
Wonderful to see Astrid Lindgrens amazing work starts to get some influence in other masterpieces, like Star Wars.
Ronja ræningjadóttir was a big part of childhood for many Icelandic kids as well. I thought I was crazy for thinking the BoBF theme reminded me of this, but knowing everyone else saw it too? *cpt. Holt voice* VindicaTION!!!
I am from Germany. I recognized it immediately. The composer has stolen it from Ronja Rövardotter soundtrack.
Finland too. I’m not entirely sure I ever saw this film, but I did see a theatre production of Ronja Ryövärintytär when I was a small kid. It was the first play my parents ever took me to, so it’ll stay with me forever.
I felt the same - älskar, älski, elska. elsker.., something. I want to say - love from sweden. But i know that we would express that sort of english/america "love-greeting way" very differently , so i went with the ONE word i know that sort of unites us all scandinavian/nordic-ish people. ..Technicalities are difficult..lets just say those of us of old norse descent.
I'm Swedish and I loved Ronja Rövardotter when I was little, and I noticed Immediately when I heared the Boba Fett theme song that it was inspired by Ronja so I'm glad other people also noticed it
Ronja Rövardotter (Banditsdaughter?) and Book of Boba Fett share a few themes. Both are about criminals and outcasts, in spite of the nature of what they are, -were or -born into; finding humanity, honour and integrity in their lives. So it's not as contrasting as it may seem to hear Björn Isfält's influence in Göransson's piece.
No it is very fitting actually :)
Man, that's so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
I'm gonna save this comment. How wonderful.
Rövar is more like raider i think
Saviour well as a swede I laughed at this comment cuz a direct translation rövar is asses
I'm french and I used to watch Ronja Rövardotter a lot when I was a child, so I also realized straight away !
I made my boyfriend listen to it and even though he didn't know Ronja at all he said : "Omg yes, that's quite obvious !"
With the added lyrics from the final episode it sounds even more similar. I mean, from "Borka" to "Boba" it's not that far...
Just remove the rk and replace it with b
So glad I found this here.. as many of you Swedes (I'm danish) I noticed this immediately as well. It couldn't have been a blatant coincidence and as I realised who the composer for the score was, I knew there was something up!
The mash-up is great however.
It was pretty much the same for me. I love the obvious homage to music that must have clearly inspired him as a kid
Same here. As an 80´s german kid, I watched Ronja Räubertochter a lot of times.
Same, and I'm Dutch. :D
German here ;) Noticed it right away too ;)
Swedes are saying "it's stolen" lmao. Guys, y'all ever heard of influence, imitation and sampling in music theory?!
Literally the first thing me and my girlfriend told each other, after watching Book of Boba was "isn't this very similar to Ronja Rövardotter" Hahaha.
Very fun to see this being made as a video. Great comparison! 👍🏻
Astrid Lindgren keeps making her mark!! She was heavily involved in the music and the swedish films and she wrote many songs.
The very first time I heard the theme from Boba Fett, I was transported back to my childhood watching Ronja Røverdatter. As a Dane I grew up with the stories of Astrid Lindgren and the shows based on them, but my favorite show was Ronja and a big part of that was due to the music/song
I think every Nordic person noticed this.
Every European, believe me 😄
Indeed. I'm danish, and it's been driving me nuts for weeks.
I just hope the Boba Fett series will be able to live up to such a great legacy as the Ronja movie. 🤞
At this point though, i fear we are looking at something along the lines of the Solo movie. Not bad, but just not that great either. 🤔
@@KnittedSister Ep 5 saved it a little and the mandolorian will be in 2 more episodes so we shall see if they saved it ;-)
Ronja is loved by 80/90s children also in the german speaking areas, i am from Austria, also noticed the similarities right away
I just watched the first episode of Boba Fett and immediately thought that the end song sounds very much like the music from Ronja. Came here and was delighted to see that others had noticed the same thing! :D
LOL! One minute after watching I thought the EXACT same thing! Sounds like I wasn't alone! HAhahahaHA!
we are very proud of the swedish children nostalgic music being showned again to the world!
Clearly an homage! Very cool indeed!😊
An homage is when you borrow a little part and make it different but still like the original, this a complete rip-off basically.
@@fredrik357 Meh
@@fredrik357 Why are you so angry about it. It is completely normal for artists to be inspired by work of someone else. It is not a rip-off ... remix at most. But it has it's own flow and I think it is funny that Ludwig chose Mattis-Borka, the song about two bandits ( "crime lords" ) for Boba Fett who is now a crime lord. I'm so glad that these two songs happened.
@@fredrik357 after a set amount of years it's completely legal. This is why so many things in music return in different styles. It's been almost 40 years, so instead of being so bitter, see the beautiful thing in renewing, honoring and taking something old and letting new generations enjoy it. Context matters and so does Intent, unless you have proof of him doing it with malice, this is rather a honoring and inspirational piece.
It's like how so much of John Williams Star Wars soundtrack is basically Holst's "The Planets" suite.
Ronja is a classic, Even Studio Ghibli made an Anime version. Ronja, the Robber's Daughter.
Yes Hayao Miyazaki was a big fan of Astrid Lindgren, he was even in Sweden to ask for permission to make an animated version of Pippi Longstocking, but got declined (Lindgren was very much against any animated adaptation). Instead Miyazaki made Kiki's Delivery Service, where the setting is very much inspired from Swedish nature and architecture. After Lindgren's death the right for an animated version of Pippi Longstocking was instead sold to a German company that made some bland series from it.
Dutch here, Ronja was iconic in my nineties childhood as well. It was broadcast numerous times on Dutch TV (subtitled) and I absolutely adored this song. Fun fact: there's a rave version by RMB as well, called Mattisse. (nothing to do with the painter obviously, just misquoting the lyrics sung by the tribesmen)
As a Swede I had no idea that Ronja was a big deal in countries outside of Scandinavia. I glad to hear that we share the same childhood memories!
I recognized it instantly. Of course he took inspiration from this classic. But I like it!
Inspiration. Is that what we're calling it?
@@RobinMcBeth You need to chill....you're literally in all the comments saying it was inspired.
"varfor da da, varfor gor hon pa detta viset, varfor da da" - Rumpnisse.
Ah, my Swedish childhood. Excellent movie. In fact, I think it was my first movie I saw in a movie theater when I was a kid and it was my big sister that took me to see it.
Came to look for Ronja song to play it for my spouse and so glad I found this! The songs are so similar it didn't go unnoticed. Also learned a lot from the comments. I've seen Ronja Rövardotter a gazillion times, went to see it with friends in cinema when I was younger than 10 :)
Listen to a swedish radio documentary (P2 dokumentär) about the composer of the Ronja theme, Björn Isfält, and they talk about what the inspiration came from, mean Björn also took an inspiration which was believe it was from traditional music from Corsica, or/and Bulgaria. Also another notice Georgian song has a similarity but suppose not be the inspiration. But young Swedish composer sure enough took inspiration from Ronja.
Huh. I've been thinking the theme feels familiar somehow :D
I'm Finnish and I watched the Ronja movie *so many times* as a kid ❤
Ingen slump att kompositören Ludwig Göransson använt Björn Isfälts musik från Ronja Rövardotter, båda är från Linköping/ Sverige 🇸🇪🇸🇪
Men han borde anmälas för plagiat likaväl.

Bobba is a bandit king, Mattis is a bandit king.. I love the genius that Came up with the idea to use that song for bobba aswell!!!
Bobas daughter will be named Ronja Fett?
Birk Fett :P
That was my thought exactly. When I saw the composer in the credits had a Swedish name I thought they had to be the same but apparently not.
Both tunes bang.
First this movie inspired a horseback robbery scene in “Robin Hood: prince of thieves” and now Boba Fett? What’s next ? 😂
Yes. But it's like a win... Win... Win.
So great all around imo.
Jeg vet ikke på hvilket språk jeg skal skrive en melding slik at den lett kan leses, men jeg er glad for at vi leser de samme eventyrene ❤
Ronja RövarDotter is such a great book and film.
The Book of Boba? I see what he did there
@@puggoman902 What? Ronja Rövardotter is a book and thats what Wladislav meant, not a reference to The Book Of Boba Fett
Listening to the end credit score for ep 7 Ludwig added the "Boba" lyrics giving even more nods to Den Stora Rövardansen!
I new I wasn't the only one 🤣 Love the tribute (!)
Thank you. I thought I'm getting crazy. That was my very first thought when I heard the new theme.
Yep, just last week I wondered when a video would pop up on RUclips and compare the two songs^^ and here it is. It’s been up longer than I thought but I didn’t look for it so missed there already was one. But yeah, some inspiration must have occurred 😊
Cudos for Ludwig bringing some Ronja to Star Wars!
Omg I love this!!
Ja de är så sjukt! hahaha! googlade fram den här videon så fort jag hörde den i serien
Right in point!!!
Love it ! Puttning sweden on the map!
Yes, it is very obvious and struck me also at first hearing. Thanks for making this video, now I don't have to explain it at length to other people, they can just watch this ;-)
Some of the music in Ronja Rövardotter is, in turn, based on Georgian polyphonic singing!
Just wow!
I noticed it instantly! So cool! 🤩
Don`t forget the "RMB - Matisse" Sample 😊
Bravo! Great music
To the ones of you, that like the Ronja-Theme and are interested in technomusic I recommend "Matisse" by 1990s group "RMB".
Finally, people started to notice!
I grew up with this movie in the 90's and Star Wars so when me and my friend watched Book of Boba Fett and we knew it was Ludwig Göransson who composed this (who is the same age as us) we got so excited! Scandinavians know! ;)
I love this
That was the first thing that came out of my mouth when watching book of boba fett. I annoyed my better half quite a bit while the credits roled.
I'm Austrian, BTW, and my older sister and I grew up on Astrid's books. We had an audio cassette with Robja Räubertochter, many years before we actually saw the movie. I love the songs so much.
The original still sound a lot bettet though
@@christopherdvorak3941 yeah i wouldn't say the original is better...both have slightly different styles to the composition.
I guess he saw the same movie when he was a child.
I was extra looking for such a comparison, because I thought the same when I heard it for the first time...and I'm not Swedish, but it is well known over here and I knew it since my childhood.
I noticed it immediately. I had once made a techno track out of the Ronja track.
Now I wanna see Boba & Fennec vs. Mattis & Lovis in a mixed tag.
That's exactly what I thought when I first heard the Theme from the Book of Boba Fett!
I fell laughing to the floor when I hear the credits theme yesterday =P
Hehe du hörde också denna uppenbara inspirationskälla...
Snyggt spanat!
Hehe you also heard this obvious inspirational connection...
Well spotted!
Wow that's beyond similar
Sad to say Boba didn't had a chance against Ronja och Rövarna
A true master. Ludvig the legend
Is amazing the boba feet soundtrack vertion. 😍😍😍 is the best.
I did, and that's why I searched lol. Ended up here.
Also look up the Amiga in-game theme of Settlers 1. Very similar melody.
Obviously a large portion of inspiration. And a couple paces is clearly even a loan from the Astrid Lindgren’s Ronja Movie and composer Björn Isfälts.
I knew it!! But thanks for confirming it! I heard it the first time i watched Boba Fet!!
I was like Ronja, Birk...my childhood!! But im a swede so i didnt look further into it because i dont want to seem braggy...but HERE it is! Im FAR from the only one!
I noticed!
OH MY GOD!
Så himla roligt.
So amazingly funny!

Snyggt av göransson! 🤟
Goransson is a genius lets be honest ...
Original song is better. One can argue how genius it is to copy a song🤷♂️
@@emilholmsten8600 Nah, boba fett is better
I noticed it when I first heard Boba Fett's theme.
Since i watched the first episode, when i heard the thme song i automatically filled in the words "Mattis and Borka" I dont know if it is a nod from swedish composer Göranssen to the swedish tv show or else
Kul att jag inte är ensam! Precis vad jag tyckte också
absolutly, the first thing when i heard it.
A good banger to listen while eating meatballs
The theme started and I shouted "Ronja!" towards my TV 😂
Glad I'm not alone. I thought it sounded to much of Ronja. Grew up with it, when Danish TV, showed a lot from Astrid Lindgren.
LOL! One minute after watching I thought the EXACT same thing! Sounds like I wasn't alone! HAhahahaHA!
This is (supposedly) a great tribute to the Ronja music,!
What a steal 😀
In the end, all of our culture will be represented in Star wars, and CUltural appreciation will finally reach its peak
This was my first reaction as well at the credits. Well done Göransson! A great Homage!
Thank god, i thought iw as the only one :D
Unless Ludwig did his job right I wouldn't be surpriced if ther was a leagal claim about this. The theme may be a coincident but the chorus part at the end is a dead giveaway and in the last episode, 'Borka' changes to 'Boba'.. I doubt Favraux knew about this as it is quite difficult to come by. This is more than a "temp-track" as with Wlliams/Lucas. I am glad that he used the theme though as it is the best Star Wars theme in years.
nice music
Måste nästan göra en ny jämförelse med sista avsnittet teamsong där det hörs att kören sjunger "FETT! boba, bobabobaboba
Now I'm waiting for the remix, kinda like Tenacious D x Evangelion
Thank you😂 first time I heard it I was with my mother and loled my ass of!
Have you heard the resent one? It says Boba fett instead of Borka🤣 it’s like Ludwig gave up “fuck it, everyone in Sweden will know it anyway”
Now a battle using the Boba Fett theme from episode 7 lol
The moment I heard it I started saying “Ba ba ba Borka” and thought to myself WAIT ONE MINUTE!! Is that from Ronjia?!?!
So I'm not the only one.
