- This year we welcome back the beloved Swedish fantasy-tale of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter - following Ronja as she grows up and discovers the magical, yet dangerous forest with its mysterious creatures. When Ronja meets the young boy Birk from a rival gang, it marks the beginning of a dark family feud and a forbidden friendship emerges, all while a notorious bailiff arrives to rid the forest of robbers once and for all.
Writer Hans Rosenfeldt, director Lisa James Larsson and producers Bonnie Skoog Feeney & Mattias Arehn have transformed the story of Ronja based on the Astrid Lindgren book. The series will be released in two parts, with Part 1 (episode 1-6) launching on March 28, followed by Part 2 (episode 7-12) later in 2024.

As a swede i hope they do justice to this story for Astrid Lindgren is the most beloved author in swedish history
Jag håller helt med dig.
I read the book. The trailer says they added things that were not in the book. That's bad. There is an older version as a movie or as a TV show. I recommend the TV show. It's linger and follows the book. Both made by svenska filmindustrie.
@@gabrielswerke4079 tack så mycket
Мы, в детстве смотрели его, в 80-х годах, в кинотеатре. Как бы не испоганили эту сказку, своими переделками.
They prolly won't.
I love the stories of Astrid Lindgren. I am from Germany and grew up with them. They even inspired me to visit Sweden. It’s such a beautiful country with beautiful culture.

Hello people across the world! Here's some useful information for ya:
-This is a series (not a movie) and was originally made by Viaplay. Netflix then bought it.
-The story is based on a book written by Astrid Lindgren in 1981 (same woman who created Pippi Longstocking).
-There are only two other adaptions of this book; a live action movie from 1984 (directed by Tage Danielsson) and an anime series from 2014 (directed by Gorō Miyazaki).
I hope you will enjoy the show!
Merci pour les informations❤❤
Thank You ;)
ahhh, now i got it, thats why Ronja isnt black, its not produced by Netflix ^^

@@LordSargonvonAkkad Or Disney xD
I loved the original adaption, read the book as a kid numerous times. Astrid Lindgren wrote so many magical stories: Mio my Mio, The Brothers Lionheart, Ronja, Emil i Lönneberga ...
You are absolutely right. In Germany they used to show some of the Lindgren film adaptations for Christmas and it felt extra extra special when they were on tv. Lindgren's Emil was re-named for the German children's book market. We know him as Michel. There was already a famous Emil from Kästner's "Emil and the Detectives". Lindgren is so wonderful in her writing by combining melancholy, sadness and pure joy. The best forever.
Indeed! I also read/watched Lindgren's books/adaptions in German. At kindergarten, primary school and at home she was as present as Grimm's tales and a way bigger influence than Disney@@coffeenorth
@@GKViddingHD So true. Disney is great for its storytelling in images but everything is usually upbeat. Lindgren's stories are so captivating because they also include all the sharp edges of life.
"Эмиль" был одной из любимых книг в детстве, а "Мио мой Мио" в свое время поразил в самое сердце 💔
Давно я про эти книги даже не вспоминала. Приятно снова вспомнить эти истории
There is also a 3d cartoon series.
As a Scandinavian, this makes me so excited. I loved the original movie as a kid!
I just cried. The movie was my comfort movie as a kid.... i watched it EVERY TIME i visited my grandparents

Hopefully this will be a hit and Netflix will show interest in turning The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren into a series.
It was announced yesterday that a Brothers Lionheart mini series will happen, not sure if Netflix is involved though. Director is Thomas Vinterberg

One of my all time favorite Astrid Lindgren books. And I love the original 80's film. Can't wait for this ❤ 🇫🇮

Lindgren was Swedish, not Finnish 🇸🇪🇫🇮
@@harm3825 who talked about her being Finnish ? 🤔
@@harm3825 darling, I know, but I’m Finnish
@gmasterv that’s right, I’m a Finn
This show was produced by the swedish Viaplay, but it will be shown on Netflix instead, due to an economical crisis that struck Viaplay. So this is basically a Viaplay production that ended up on Netflix instead. There will be 2 seasons and 12 episodes in total. Based on the Astrid Lindgren Book. Astrid Lindgren is most known in the US as the creator of Pippi Longstocking.
German public broadcaster ARD was financing as well, which is why it won’t be on German Netflix, but broadcasted first here. Probably later than on Netflix 😢
Oh thank god. Netflix can turn gold into turd, so I was worried this would go the same route.
Happy to hear that - I read/ watced this growing up..
Its in sweedish - good one, cause it needs to be.
And yea, if netflix made the whole thing, we would likely have Mattis as a stong female of colour, or some stupid shit like tkat 🙄
@@zephyrerazortail5478 I don't think that's a Netflix thing.. No, Mattis is still a man, but there's both a female chief of the village and female leader of the soldiers who hunt for the robbers 🙄
Now I wouldn't mind one of the two - there are lots of strong females in Lindgren's books, for example Sofia, who lead the rebels in the Brothers Lionheart - they just overdo it these days.
That aside, though, the show was apparently even filmed in Sweden, and its first reviews are very positive 😊
@@monmothma3358 jesus you are soft to females with authority and you lose ur shit. You do realise Ronja herself is bound to become a robber queen ? Or at the worst the wife of one.
As a Norwegian who grew up on this story, and the original Astid Lindgren movie adaptions, I cannot express my excitement. I was worried when I first saw it Netflix doing it, but seeing this trailer and hearing that they kept it in Swedish, I have high hopes! I always loved this story, and I so hope they do it justice so that we may see my other favorite (The Brothers Lionheart) adapted as well.
It was one my favourite books when I was a kid. Such a great story with pretty much everything you could wish for: adventure, monsters, humour, romance, a lot of really well-written, interesting characters and a protagonist that you can't help but be captivated by. I saw the old movie and loved it back then but will definitely be looking forward to this one, as well.
I grew up watching the original movie from 1984 so I’m very much looking forward to watching this remake 🥰
That movie is pure magic. I hope they cspture some of the joyfulness of that version in this!
Astrid Lindgren's book is magnificent (as are all her books, actually) and the 1984 film was one of my childhood favourites. Really looking forward to this new adaptation.
Wow, that looks really close to the original movie. Let's hope they stay true the book as well.
Yes, Ronja in this one looks very much like Birk in the original. Strange choice. Confusing...
As a swede i think ''Rövare'' in this sense would be more like ''bandit'' or ''outlaw'' rather than robber but anyway this look like some good stuff. I love the original movie from the 80s, that is a Swedish classic.
They could at least quote the name of Astrid Lindgren in the trailer since she was the Author of this incredible story
I loved the book as a child so much. 😍
I always felt like her, when I played alone in the forrests around my village. She was my heroine and inspiration. She did what was right. Freed herself from the prejudices and expectations that her family wanted to instill in her, formed her own opinion & fought for it, no matter what hard consequences she had to accept for it, etc...
The Netflix adaptation is unexpected but I'm seeing forward to it.
I will definitly watch it! 🙌
Big fan of Goro Miyazaki's version, but always wanted to see a modern, live-action version of this. And I'm glad to see that Netflix has risen to the occasion. And in original Swedish with subtitles no less. Big thumbs up.
The script was written by Hans Rosenfeldt, who also wrote 'The Bridge', so it's going to be good.
It was actually made and originally supposed to release on a Viaplay, but was sold to Netflix after it was made. Happy that it'll be able to have a more internation reach now. Because it such a good story, hopefully it'll live up to the book.
Never heard about Goro Miyazaki's version. Have to check it out... 😃
If you havn't seen the film I can recommend it. One of the best films from my childhood
The anime series is a masterpiece and so true to the book. I hope you do check it out.

Yay! This is my favorite book from childhood, and, as an American, I never have anyone to talk about it with! A Swedish friend translated the previous adaptation for me, and this one looks absolutely stunning! So glad new kids are getting to know this story!
This series is a gem. Absolutely meticulously realized, incredibly beautifully filmed, and with absolutely likable protagonists. Beautiful setting, the story more corresponding to the book, with much depth and humor. The dwarves are simply super cute, and the overall feeling of the series is just a delight. Even I grew up with Ronja and was extremely skeptical about a Ronja reboot. But Lisa James Larsson has put in 120% effort, and I simply don't understand the criticism of the series. It's as if people can't be satisfied nowadays. What would it take for people to be satisfied? I think the maximum has been achieved, and I will watch the series a second, third, and fourth time. Superb performance, beautiful story.
I just stumbled upon the trailer. Why did they choose an actor that looks like Birk in the 1984 version to play Ronja. Very confusing... And dark hair is one of her mentioned physical features, isn't it? I literally feel like she's been white washed...
@@user-xm1et7cz2o yea, I’m a bit upset about her hair colour too. It’s supposed to be black, and it’s just disappointing tbh. I hope the actor does the character justice anyway
@@AstaGruwier-vi5ht I see people complaining about "wokeism" changing characters to fit a political motive (a sometimes warranted critique, though overused in my view, and I'm myself critical of using the word "woke" in this context and way), "diversing" the characters and story line, but in this case it almost feels as if Ronja was "white washed" instead...
(people who have an issue with "woke" might not appreciate Ronja to begin with, as she was always a strong, independent, intelligent female character)
The 1984 movie was a masterpiece. The thing i am most excited about with this one is the special effects. I used to play Borka in the theatre around Sweden for a few years and i have noticed that they have added some of the scenes from the original script that didn't make it into the 1984 movie. Looking forward to see this one 😊
As a Finn I want say that Astrid Lindgren is what I grew up with. Ronja and Madicken are my favorites and when I noticed this in Netflix I couldn’t believe my eyes at first. And now I can say that the show was a positive surprise - it was mostly accurate compred to the book and I like the fact that they added new things too. Simply amazing!
I've read it's book when I was in the fifth grade ...and now I'm in third year college and I see the trailer ... Its like dream come true ❤❤❤❤

Its as good as Pippi, theres not a "bad" A Lindgren book!

She has so many interesting books. Now i am reading The Brothers Lionheart
Astrid Lindgren is a pretty big deal here in Sweden. Pippi Longstockings might be her most famous one and the one that gained most readers outside of Sweden but she has written so much more; Emil in Lönneberga, the lionheart brothers, Kajsa, the plucky, Nils Karlson (gnome?), The children in Bullerbyn (or Rumbleville I guess you could translate that to) Mio my son, Maddicken, just to name a few. Astrid Lindgren is such a big deal that her face is on the 20 Crowns bill (which is only about 2 USDs I think but still)
@@ocarinagirlandthestories648Fun fact! The reason why Astrid Lindgren is on such a low value bill, is not because she is less important in any way, but rather because they figured that it's the bill that is the most likely to end up in the hands of children. ❤
@@TheBlackSquirrel yeah, it is very commonly used. It also has a little picture of Pippi Longstockings on it which I think is a pretty neat detail
Holy moly, Ronja!! Didn't expect this!!
I absolutely LOVE that they used scenes and seemingly locations from the original movie. Soooo cool
Looks amazing! I hope the team behind Ronja will take on more of Astrids wonderful stories. I lost count how many times I watched Ronja on VHS.
Since I'm from Denmark, I can remember seeing this movie on my parents' TV when I was young. But in that time when I was a child, I wasn't that big of a fan of the original movie from 1984, I can just barely remember that I've seen any clips from the movie, and one scene kinda has had me haunted since the day I watched it. But now, older and not as scared as I once was, I can say that THIS looks FANTASTIC! I really hope that this movie will be a banger. And since that it's the 40th Anniversary of the original movie this year, I can tell that this will be special. I'm very excited to watch this movie. :)
Imagine if we ever got Pippi Longstockings or Emil from Lönneberg as a Netflix recreation. That would be cool.
The visuals are absolutely like how I imagined it all as I was reading the story many years ago. Love it already!
Wow. I grew up in Germany with the film from 1984 and am a huge fan. I never expected Netflix to make a remake :D

It’s not just the millennials in Sweden who grew up with Astrid Lindgren’s works. Any given generation in Sweden grew up with them, they are such classics, and yeah it’s cool to see this adaptation, it’ll be cool to see what they can now with a budget as big as Netflix’s and with modern CGI

This is what I _love_ about my Netflix subscription: it's not just American 'stuff', but instead full international as well. Swedish, Spanish, Dutch... my only issue with series though: too many open endings and thus also unfinished stories. I really hope this won't be one of those.
As a swede, that makes me so happy to hear! 🥹❤ This series is based on a book by Astrid Lindgren (same woman who created Pippi Longstocking), so I think the story will be wrapped up nicely. The people in charge of Astrid's legacy are very strict when it comes to adaptions of her work, and rarely allows any major changes, so I think it will be very close to the original book.
For those unfamiliar with the book n original film, its"kinda" Romeo n Juliet in the Viking age but with pre teens.
