  • The Leisure Class was an obscure independent modern rock ensemble in the 1980's. Having no official full time musicians, virtuoso bassist Ed Kane and producer W.J. McKay are the only named contributors. BLACK was written by W.J. McKay in 1986 who performs vocals and guitar. The song speaks of human isolation and despair and the lack of love in the world.
The Leisure Class had one brief departure from obscurity when MTV's late night show "Basement Tapes" featured the two primary members in a staged, self-produced music video titled "Guns For Money." The exposure apparently had no impact on their career and the group continued to struggle in the studio for years.
The Leisure Class disbanded after more years of obscurity and it is rumored that Ed Kane left the United States as W.J. McKay faced countless legal entanglements.
Kane and McKay credit Bauhaus, Psychedelic Furs and Ennio Morricone as influences, as well as a variety of substances that expanded their inner vision.

I'll say. I have no idea who they are. That was on the show? When?

I’m pretty sure that was never on any show. Not sure about name of show. Doubt it was basement tapes. The song was recorded in 1986. The other video came on a few times about that time early morning hours show. One version is on my channel.

Thanks, I just watched it (attributed to Goth Mountain). Yeah, I was gonna say, if that clip competed on Basement Tapes, I'm even more senile than Joe Biden is purported to be. Well, I did miss a lot of episodes in 1988, so...

@@lonewolfattack8071 That's cool bro. I think I missed 1988 completely myself. : - ) Our appearance wasn't on a competition show. It was just MTV's airing of indie music on a late night program. I submitted my 3/4" tape to Rochester, NY in 1986. Back then that was serious high quality video! LOL
