I worked for a school district in British Columbia in the 90s, in the middle of the maintenance yard they had a large incinerator. Whenever they took "outdated books" out of the libraries they burned them there during the evening shift. We were told not to look through the piles of books or we'd get fired. Seemed odd to me.

So even though the books would have been considered disgusting by nearly everyone at the time, not just the Nazis, the book burnings were still criticized. Then, about 80 years later, all the ideas in those books would become mainstream and enforced politically.
Yeah, you ever think it came back because the books were burned and people learned absolutely nothing about the Jews on Germany? Freedom of speech isn't just about saying whatever you want to say, it's also about letting EVERYONE say what they want to say so that we can discern who the person is. The decadent people of the Weimar Republic were viewed as dancing on the graves of the German soldiers that had just perished only a decade before. This period in Germany exuded the idea of post-modernism. I am very emotionally attached to this story because I see its parallels in my own life being a Marine infantryman that served in the Iraq War in 2005 with many friends being killed only to now live in Weimar 2.0 in the United States. I completely understand now why the Germans nationalists hated that government even after taking control of it.

I have no idea why my last comment was deleted so I will try to keep this simple: If you are American (which based on your grammar, I don’t think you are), then you should know that that is how this history is essentially taught. No details are given in middle/high school as to why the Germans had so much hatred for the Jewish people. And at the age of anywhere between 12 - 16, you aren’t exactly inclined to be as intelligent or intellectually curious. Kids will also be more trusting. This is why kids are targets for propaganda. I actually did have questions around this topic as a kid though and asked my mom and she had drank the same Kool Aid and couldn’t give me much info past the basic talking points.

Went to my local library about 2 weeks ago here in the UK. It's the biggest in the town where I live. At the counter there was a LGBT charity present with trans women running the counter and all the pencil pots had trans flags in. They were adding a load more books into the children's section. It just made me think... Why is it LGBT organisations are so involved in libraries and children in particular?... Just came to mind watching this video. Dunno why.

As a german I thank you for your efforts. I am an active member of a traditional student society and topics like this one are actively discussed within our group. You would not believe how incredibly one sided german history classes are structured in our educational system. And when you are at the age in which WWII is a topic in school, you may have the ability(that means maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 students) to see that there is something missing or wrong, you may even ask questions, but all doubts are nipped in the bud by the teachers. And around the 2000s, where I was a student, the internet was still too immature to find an alternative view. Don't even try to find it in a german library. That is why your work is so important. I worked for a school district in British Columbia in the 90s, in the middle of the maintenance yard they had a large incinerator. Whenever they took "outdated books" out of the libraries they burned them there during the evening shift. We were told not to look through the piles of books or we'd get fired. Seemed odd to me.

The decadent people of the Weimar Republic were viewed as dancing on the graves of the German soldiers that had just perished only a decade before. This period in Germany exuded the idea of post-modernism. I am very emotionally attached to this story because I see its parallels in my own life being a Marine infantryman that served in the Iraq War in 2005 with many friends being killed only to now live in Weimar 2.0 in the United States. I completely understand now why the Germans nationalists hated that government even after taking control of it.

I have no idea why my last comment was deleted so I will try to keep this simple: If you are American (which based on your grammar, I don’t think you are), then you should know that that is how this history is essentially taught. No details are given in middle/high school as to why the Germans had so much hatred for the Jewish people. You would not believe how incredibly one sided german history classes are structured in our educational system. And when you are at the age in which WWII is a topic in school, you may have the ability(that means maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 students) to see that there is something missing or wrong, you may even ask questions, but all doubts are nipped in the bud by the teachers.
And around the 2000s, where I was a student, the internet was still too immature to find an alternative view. Don't even try to find it in a german library.

You look up quotes and can't find anything, but that person never said that - well in fact they did, but the quote is commonly used because no one is going to quote 2 pages of much more detailed description , but they don't state this when saying they didn't say the quote, they just try to make you think the idea, concept from this person was a myth. A huge part of the weird focus people have on this is that so many people are kinda aware of but also completely misunderstand the book Fahrenheit 451.
451 is about a society that embraced nihilism and became dependent on technology, then because the books contained knowledge which reminded people of human virtues they VOTED to ban them. This is clear in the book. 451 isn't a critique of book burning like it's often taught and many people think. It is a condemnation and warning about how a society disconnected from reality so bad they voluntarily banned books so they wouldn't have that mirror of knowledge held up to them.
