“Let’s be honest. You didn’t pick them to walk everywhere” Me: part of my back story is I lost my wings and I’m playing a artificer so I can learn to build new ones...until then I’m walking everywhere
Damn thats exactly what I want to build. A aarakroca, lets call it Dally, thats been captured by a Dwarf wizard that collects exotic species. The dwarf installed some shit on the wings that controls it so he wouldnt trash about in his cage and make noise. The device (or magic idk) also controls when the wings open, so when the dwarf have any visitors, he can display the birds glorious wings. After an incident that let Dally escape his cage, he jumped out of a window in the wizards tower only to find that he cant fly and fell on the sea, washing up ashore after many days. Not knowing where the tower is, his goal is to build a new mechanical wing that lets him fly, free any animal that has been caged and to have his vengeance against the dwarf.
I DESPERATELY want to make an Aarakocra, but based on an elf owl (the tiniest owl species. Super tiny) and have it be a warlock. Tiny, adorable creature fueled by a demon.
I recently made a peace cleric aarakocra based around them losing their wings in their backstory, so they try and help keep peace and heal all they come across whenever they can, cos they don't want anyone else to go through losing something similar to the loss of his wings.
I still think the best way to make Aarakocra balanced in the early game is to limit their flight in combat until 5th lvl. You may be able to fly but flying while casting spells or holding a weapon takes practice
Actually Aarakocra Talons are affected by the damage increase from Martial Arts, just like Tabaxi Claws and Lizardfolk Bite. The Damage type stays Slashing, but the damage increases as you level.
How do Aarakocra feel about Kenku? I have an idea to play an Aarakocra born with almost entirely black plumage who was abandoned by their flock as a child because they assumed the child was similarly cursed. I haven't seen anything that indicates this as implausible but no idea if that's outside the realm of possibility. I know Aarakocra flocks are small and that losing a member is a big deal so maybe that could have been something done by one parent or even an aunt/uncle who thought they were doing what was best for the flock and lied saying they were killed/taken. Thoughts?
I had the exact same idea for my now lvl 7 Aarakocra Ka. He has black plumage that is not attractive for females, got abandoned by his flock and his wings were permanently damaged. This way I couldnt abuse the flight in combat. I would guess that Aarakocra pity Kenku, since they dont have wings to fly. I dont think they would be hostle towards them though.
Did a one shot as a aarakocra warlock with all the things I could take to bump my eldritch blast. Take my turns flying 150ft up and then rain down with my 300ft range eldritch blast? Yes please.
I don’t know anything about D&D when I started my first campaign with my friends. I came in on their second session with a character I cobbled together with little understanding on how the process actually worked. My first character ended up being a sooty owl looking Aarakocra Druid/Fighter whose introduction included killing off half the board in two moves. She ended up having the highest kill count in the party and earned the affectionate nickname, “blood bird.” I used barn owl screeches as sound effects and she also liked to dye her feathers to make herself appear to be drenched in blood. I unintentionally created an OP demonic-looking murder monster but boy was she fun to play.
I just made a D&DBeyond character today with lvl 1 Rogue / 1 Twilight Cleric / 18 Gunslinger Aarakocra for shits and giggles and damn this looks fun 😂👍🏼 20-30 ish passive rolls! Dive bomb with pistol dual wield and sweep out of range 😅
My DM who runs 3.5 is now running 5e but we both don’t know if Aarakocra’s have their arms and their wings separate or if they just have wings and their arms in it. Which one is it? I’m pretty sure its wings separate but idk
My aarakocra rogue is a Raven, lost her wings in a fight with a beast, she uses a sword instead of a spear and wears a chest plate and armor on her lower arms. My second aarakocra is a white eagel, uses a long bow while fighting, and can snipe you from the skys
Great video, Patrick. We love Skullsplitter Dice! We didn’t you guys had a channel. We are just south of you guys and would love to come tour the factory some time.
I have a player who wants an Aarakocra Ranger, and I told him OK. But the wings are more for show, and only allow him the same effect as "feather fall".
playing an aarakocra druid that was crippled in the past and instead of flying, can sort of just ‘double-jump’ a few times, so he’s grounded a majority of the time.
I'm currently playing an aarakocra draconic bloodline sorcerer and I've grown really attached to it and in our campaign we recovered a book with all the draconic bloodlines in it, but it does jump generations... We've been playing our campaign for over a year and I need to know if along the way, has my character laid an egg and could it be fertilized by a random humanoid or do they not lay any eggs when they're not close to another aarakocra even when it is mating season... I basically just want to know if there's potentially a bastard aarakocra rogue with mommy issues out there maybe coming to kill me in the future
how about a aarakocra that never learned how to fly or one with a vow not to fight an enemy wail flying because it believes in a fair fight so if the enemy cant fly they wont fly wail fighting it this might make it were people could play them with out breaking the game or you could start your game with an injured wing that wont get better till the flying wont be a problem.
@@SkullSplitter He hasn't been used in campaigns, I havn't played any campaigns because I don't have the time or the equipment to play DnD with a group. I would go with totem warrior because he has high wisdom and even take the magic initiate feat for thorn whip and animal friendship.

DO IT.
DEW IT
If you want to do that why not do the new race owlin?

Aarakocra Monk: Grapple opponent, use Step of the Wind to fly 60ft up, and drop opponent for 6d6 damage as soon as lvl 2
This is one of the many reasons it's not allowed in a lot of campaigns. Fly at low levels is super powerful. Have you played one?
@@SkullSplitter My comment is from experience 😅
@@SkullSplitter Wait, we can do that with this race? How much can an Aarakocra carry while flying?
Can't believe I even considered playing a kenku instead. Consider me enlightened.

That's seems like a fair and balanced way to address this!

I'm playing a bearded vultured flavored character who's a death cleric.
Nice. Getting some serious Dark Crystal vides in my brain!
I currently have an Aarakocra Ranger with the Sharpshooter feat, a longbow, and the Archery fighting style. I'm just the sniper/scout of the party.
Did a one shot as a aarakocra warlock with all the things I could take to bump my eldritch blast. Take my turns flying 150ft up and then rain down with my 300ft range eldritch blast? Yes please.
This is why it's banned at a lot of tables
@@SkullSplitter fair point. Still sad. Plenty of races get cool bonuses. They just get an incredible one and not much else to offer beyond that.
Thank you for the lore video!

Aarakocra Gunsligher Fighter. Dex for ranged firearms. Wis for Grit points.

Oh, flying's OP? No problem, I'll just _casually snaps my aarakocra's wing in half_
My new arrakokra is based off a Quetzal bird
Sweet. What's their name?
@@SkullSplitter their name is Pavon they're a druid
Oooo. Druid is interesting pick there!
@@SkullSplitter stuck between circle of the Shepard or circle of the land
Shepard can be nice! Never felt drawn to any of the land circles, but YMMV.

SkullSplitter Dice Bradenton
Awesome, born and raised on 33rd Street East. Maybe we can have coffee soon.
if I play an aarakocra monk, can the fly disengage?

🤷♂️Really depends on how your DM wants to play it. They could handwave magic regardless of “physical constraints”.
I'd like to play a casowary aarakocra, trading the flight for more speed

I built an Aarakocra barbarian who just flies in and beats his enemies to death with a club.

Aarakocra monk that looks like a Rooster
For an Anime-inspired campaign, I plan to create an aarakockra “Alstral Self” monk.
Thank you
My aarakocra is a snow owl cleric so far does anyone have any tips or things I can do with this?
What I'm interested in is how to speak like aarakocra, I am confused by description, I have no idea how to speak like bird person
Can you be Half human Half Aarakocra?
Running an Aarakocra bard based off of Kass from BoTW
A aracokra buzzard and buzzards are really bad flyers so a 30 ft fly speed and to tackle of a dexterity role at disadvantage
Sooo... aarakokrca eagle like fighter named Murica
5e Says they can't use bow and arrows? Would they have to find a teacher for it?
Since I'm not playing Harry Potter RPG...I'll pass on flying characters
ha ha! Whatever Ron!
