Maxon... Maxoff...
hold on.... it says 2013 interview, uploaded on dec 11, 2011. whats going on here lol
+SmokingwithJan AndGonther420 Hahahah..
William Kutz futuristic shit in my book
William Kutz lol
I'm actually surprised by the amount of pre-amp gain he has dialed in on the amp before he kicks the overdrive in.
I tend to really roll back on the gain so I get as much amp clarity as possible.
Remember that the overdrive pedal does add a fair bit of natural compression. Plus his PRS is loaded with active pickups.
Correct sir. The Maxon is Tightening up the sound. Dialing it in so to say and adding sustain. The amp used is what is producing the Distortion.
I'm late to Killswitch bandwagon but I just love to listen to them play!!!!!! I got a TS808 HW and a stock model as well, I use them for exactly the same reason, It just tightens up the flubby bass. I like using the 808 for vibe on my clean tones as well, the now over used phrase , saturation lol. I got a few dogs too, I agree gotta have a dog in the home studio. It's cool to hear a band that just kicks ass and enjoy the ride and are cool dudes as well!!!!!!
Yeah man. Great dudes, great players, great music! Thanks for watching.
...although we thing you may need to get your hands on a Maxon OD808. ;-)
I'll take one if you send it lol.... I didn't realize the story of Maxon ,Ibanez & the TS808 at the time I bought the handwired one.
The 808 is just an overdrive it will give you a great blues tone on a clean amp. with a distorted amp it sends it over the top. Cleans up the low end, adds punch, adds sustain, and makes the amp sound mean and focused. Adam and Joel change their amps often. Adam has produced many different albums with all amazing guitar tones. all different amps.. one thing that always stays the same is the 808 in front of the distorted amp.
I used to have a plexi.. it was basically a clean amp. Please correct me if yours is different.
I needed more gain than just an overdrive pedal. unless you're just looking for a bluesy classic rock tone..
Adam is getting his gain from his amp. then uses the 808 to give it clarity and tighten it up..
adam d is my favorite guitarist/artist
Yeah, it is huge. I'd like to get that big wall-of-sound, still with a good clarity with a little midrange scoop, something that rings BIG on power chords, yet still articulate with a real tightness on the palm mutes. I'd have to say like an emulation of Killswitch or Shadows Fall.
The Maxon is a light overdrive, not a distortion. They have the gain turned all the way DOWN or perhaps up to about 9'oclock and the volume turned all the way up (or perhaps around 3'oclock). The gain on the amps are most likely only around half way up, give or take a notch. It's all in the smart dialing.
I see people asking about the amp he uses. I'm sure there are many not just one. I have always loved the Bogner sound and PRS are making some killer working man amps. The new Mark Tremonti 15 watt head , Orange Dark Terror, even the Fender Bass breaker 15 can get a killer metal tone if you put a graphic eq in the effects loop to really tighten and refine the sound. Most of us don't need the amp he uses exactly cause we play smaller venues. The 15 watt amps sound HUGE when the power amp gets slammed. EMG pickups and your well on your way.
You can just use any tube screamer type overdrive to add a bit of gain and bite. Turn the volume up on it, lower the tone, and reduce the drive. Basically use as a booster.
Hi. They are mostly Maxon pedals. There is a phaser, chorus, overdrive. Then the white guy is a boss NS-2. analog delay is the light purple one. Not exactly rocket science or a big secret.
Thanks man!
Actually it would be the other way around.. Maxon is the company that designed and manufactured all the Ibanez effects till about 2002. Yes Maxon created, designed and manufactured all of them even the legendary tube screamer.
i was not with the company at the time of the filming. however i was told they think it was the Framus Cobra
@matthewshredder ...Adam uses a Maxon CP-9 Pro Plus
also if you look at the video closely you can see not all pedals are being used at the same time.
As far as I can tell, this looks like Adam D's home studio. One of the most blandest studios I've ever seen! haha! It looks like a hotel room, so bare and an extremely modest set up as far as gear goes! In any case, Adam D is the man! His mixes are always sick!
Sonuvva! I sit here listening to all these pedal reviews. Yep, that's sounds good, not as good, that's good, even better. Adam plays a few notes and murders everything I've just been listening to that I thought sounded good. Killer nasty metal guitar sound.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's the 5150 III.
@m4ssee That's because he can afford it unlike a lot of people who find it easier with a compact recording method but I do agree that this is the best way to record
@birth2end - I check with Adam, and this is what he said - "my guit had a DiMarzio "Fast Track 2" in it. Pretty loud for a Strat."
Do you have a version where the cameraman doesn't have the DT's?
I use the dual rect amp head on my POD HD with the tube screamer and EMGs, and I got the sound that is close enough to Adam's one. If you are a broke guy like me who can't afford a good stack, EQ gets the job done.
It's hard to say.. They change amps all the time.. At that time i think it was a Framus Cobra??
As far as pickups. i'm not sure.
the guitar is a caparison plm-3, they are active pickups.
google adam d guitar and there is a picture of his setup
Splinterd That's a PRS Custom 22, definitely not a Caparison, although he's been using Caparisons again recently.
@thecharliesence I remember him reading an interview I believe saying he'd used a Parker with passive pickups and he'd slightly regretted not using EMGs on the album.
Based on how he's running in circles we are going with he's in the FX "LOOP"
fucking love adam!
KsE/ToG is why I just dropped 150$ on this pedal. Can't wait! Love adam d!
Boss NS-2 - not sure if he records with it, but I have seen Adam use it in his live rig...
I've got a lot from this guy simple is always the best and maxon pedals are top notch........I've been switching my whole board over to em or the vintage ibanez same dif I wish he could go over his eq settings and his reasoning for said settings
god. chills
So wait, are they running a distortion pedal in conjunction WITH the gain turned up on the head? Everytime I've ever done that I get a wicked bad sound.
that crunch is sick, very nice...i don't get that sound outa my Maxon OD808 :p
Perfect.. They do say "tone to taste" different rigs and guitars you may have to color it differently.. other than that perfect setting
Bobblehead!
I got the dog......but my tone still sucks......what did I do wrong?
I just want to know how to do those Killswitch Engage trademark squeals !!!
I'll try it out. I've always had god tone IMO, but I've really wanted to expand lately. Kinda stuck in that rutt after 15 years and needing to try differnt stuff. Next time I go to Sam's Ass (Sam Ash) Or Guitar Center, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for clarifying for me.
Wait a minute
How is this a 2013 interview when it was posted in 2011?
did he even use PRS pickups on times of grace ?
nice
Am I correct in thinkign that Maxon made all the Ibanez Pedals of yore?
I can assume so, but I can't say for sure.
The DOG is the piece of the puzzle everyone leaves out.. Then they wonder why they don't have Adam's tone....
Why would they not show the settings for his pedals? The camera goes out of focus jesus.
ok thanks and Also do i have to have a noise surpressor otherways its going to be extrememly loud and ear piercing ?
Dont forget THE DOG! haha
I knew that I was missing something!!!! Lol I love Adam.
hey godlyke! thanks for making such a killer video here! so much great info! would you happen to know the settings adam had on his CP9+? really curious to pick this pedal up now :)
WHAT KIND OF TUBE AMPS DOES ADAM D USE? DOES HE LINE THEM INTO HIS INTERFACE? please comment cant seem to get a straight answer out of anyone.
You said he used a Framus Cobra, is the Clean tone he is using the same amp or a separate amp?
What was he using for a noise gate? there was no feedback at all.
See our video response...
I know he uses emgs but I can't tell if he is or not in this video. Can somebody tell me if he is or not . And also can the od808 really make your tone that much better ? Even on a line six spider 4 30 watt amp?
adam is a darn boss!
does anyone know what pre adam is using?
Yea he gets all of his gain from his amp then uses the overdrive to just push a little and more so to clean everything up.. that's why i was saying for your situation in particular the OD808 may not be the pedal for you.
That dog pisses ALL OVER that rug…GUARUNTEED!!!
What I really want to know is, where did GodlykeInc get the technology to get a video from 2012 and post it in 2011?
I actually liked the sound better without the Maxon but that's just me haha. What amp is Adam using?
He had to work to come up with his own tone.. Most people do... He has produced many albums and is responsible for many great guitar tones.. The one common denominator...... Maxon OD808
Whoops yes i'm sorry.. they come into my inbox.. i read it there hit reply and wound up getting you confused with Kevin NEED... my bad dude.
i'm using an early 80's Marshall plexi MKII 100w head, i'm looking for the best boost/OD pedals to use with, i like a high end sharp edgy sound with still enough body in. Any suggestions?
I used to play on Diezel Herbert and Bogner Uberschall but the old Marshall is loud enough for the stuff i wanna play, great overall tone in by-pass, just wanna top it of with the right pedals :-)
I don't believe that he had EMG's in that guitar. YES - the OD808 can make your tone that much better, even with the L6!!!
i can tell one of those pedals is a boss ns-2, which if your playing metal just isnt even a recommendation. you HAVE to have a noise suppressor in your rig. haha
What is the amp?
gorona budwiser, i a dvd from the and they walk in a studio with like 4 twelve packs of that stuff
Godlyke what amp head and cab if you know it was Adam using in this clip?
What interface is he using can anyone tell?
1:06 nearly ran over the dog XD
I would like to try "The Dog" petal effect
Im pretty sure hes playing a prs! So far that i know! Adam has sold some of his caparison plm-3 guitars!
Just curious but can you tell me what amp adam was using? And reading these comments it says that he has active pick ups in his prs? So he switched out his prs pick ups with emgs im guess! Did his guitar have the emgs or the standerd prs pick ups? Please let me know!!
how to get clean sound with this pedal?
I have this pedal but i want to know how to get clean sound with this...
The OD808 is an overdrive - it clips your signal, so there's no real way to get 100% clean tone when using this pedal (unless you bypass it!). For clean tones, Adam and Joel typically use Maxon compressors & analog delays together - they also use different amps for their clean tones than for their distorted tones...
He uses a Boss Ns2
@JamesAndrewCox01 - Cowboy boots, actually - BIG ones....
what compressor pedal does he use?
what kind of shoes des Adam wear??
@NLeutholtz lolz "what is love baby don't hurt me" LOLZ ahaha
What amp is he using for distortion?
What are the model no of the clean tone pedals
parallax - Adam & Joel switch between the CP101 & CP-9 Pro+ Compressors and the CS-9 Pro & PAC-9 Stereo Chorus pedals, depending on the rig they're using....
Laney amps kick ass
What amp are you using
Was your reply for someone else?
To summarize this video. “BE A SIMPLETON!”
From maxon
don't believe it's just the 808 he's using here, there's like a lot of compression and eq involved here :-) i don't get any sound near that crunch here :p
What kind of guitar does adam have?
looks like a custom 24 or 22 can't see the inlays
owned
Why no noise gate?????????
At this time I believe he is using Laney amps.
Shame they don't make this pedal anymore.
A Framus Cobra I believe....
what was the first pedal he said... gives it a bit more bite?
maxon od808
What kind of beer does Adam drink?
@NLeutholtz - I know, how embarrassing! I'm a bobble-head! Gotta stop drinking so much coffee....
