Deep Blue has a more aggressive guitar tone? The Horizons guitar tone is probably one of my fave tones ever, so much bite and aggression! i wish i could get my 5150 to sound like they did on this album!
Pre: 5/10 Low: 10/10 Mid: 4/10 High 4/10 Post: 3/10 Resonance: 10/10 Presence: Off. Those are the settings from the video. I know its blurry but my friend has the actual DVD in better quality and we paused it. Likely an EMG 81 and a mesa traditional 4x12 rectifier and maxon.
the good thing about Adam D is that he does push not only Killswitch but any band he produces to be PERFECT which is why Horizons came out so fucking GOOD
No he did not. Deep Blue was produced by Joe Barresi which is why the sound quality was way worse than the beautifully produced KWAS and Horizons records.
Adam D is notorious for using the Framus Cobra on alot of his recordings. The guitar tone on Killing with a smile and horizons sounds just like it. They mightve blended it with a 5150.
assuming they didn't reamp theres sections in this video where you can see the cobra lit up, and others where it's not. there was a block letter 5150 directly beneath it so must be a blend or something.
Alla is a Master I discovered Parkway Drive by "Killing with a smile" and i keep the show tickets of Preresurrection 2011 in Ola Green was amazing concert in the best moment of the band
Adam D is great, Killswitch engage is also a good band, hands down.. I give props to Adam aswell. but I have to say that PWD has evolved into an awesome band!
Horizons is processed, but it's processed well. You will have a hard time finding a mix in Metalcore where the levels on all the instruments are as well balanced as Horizons. Deep Blue's guitar tone is okay at best. It's too low in the mix, especially in comparison to the kick drum. It doesn't have the bite necessary to do the heavy parts justice and you can tell when you compare it to the heavy parts on Horizons and KWAS. The worst part of the way Deep Blue was mixed are the guitars.
He was going too, Parkway approached him and asked him to Produce it and he said yes. But with both of them doing things, Adam In Killswitch engage, they couldn't get the time were both of them were free to do it.
@blueyepoplocker what fell short about deep blue is that they took their early so-cal punk rock influences, and mixed it with a -punk-rock producer, so you got just a heavy screaming album, instead of punk-rock influences mixed with adam d's metal influences(theres a good chance hes produced your favorite metal album). also, winston said they took a more relaxed approach to recording it.
Does anyone know where this video clip is originally from? I have all of their CD's and I even have the special edition of Horizons that came with "The DVD", but I don't recall seeing this anywhere on that DVD. Does anyone know the original source? TBH, the quality is shite -- 240p?! duckie is producing a LOT of big time bands now, and has been. He also plays in "Times of Grace" now with Jesse Leach and Joel Stroetzel, giving ToG 3/5 of the original KSE members, but also 3/5 of the brutality.
@blueyepoplocker what im saying is that deep blue was a fantastic record, but it could have been better had thry not taken a relaxed approach to it (killing with a smile was done in 2 weeks, and the was a phenomenal album)
@helmet22fc Yeah. I mean Joe did a good job but the sound of the album just seems a little weird, but very cool. Just more used to the other sound though. PWD just wanted a new feel of music I guess.
NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The whole point of Deep Blue was to not just stick with the same stuff you have to be willing to change it up!! Deep Blue ended up being probably Parkway Drive's most prominent albums yet!! I love Adam D and all but Deep Blue really blew me away!!
I don't really like the quality of Horizons, it sounds so processed, especially the drums, which sound better on KWAS. Deep Blue is more raw and has a more crunchy, aggressive guitar tone and the drums sound way more natural.

Pretty sure you’re also hearing a cobra too.

Cobra and 5150 with ts9
the good thing about Adam D is that he does push not only Killswitch but any band he produces to be PERFECT which is why Horizons came out so fucking GOOD
every good metalcore album is produced by Adam D. no question about it
No he did not. Deep Blue was produced by Joe Barresi which is why the sound quality was way worse than the beautifully produced KWAS and Horizons records.
loool at adam at 0:44 dancing in the chair. Horizons is one of the best metal albums ever in my opinion
Anybody know what amp they used to record the guitars for this album? This album easily has my the best guitar tone I've ever heard in my life.
I think they used a Peavey 6505+ I know it was used on Deep Blue and Atlas, I would assume they where using it on this too.
Adam D is notorious for using the Framus Cobra on alot of his recordings. The guitar tone on Killing with a smile and horizons sounds just like it. They mightve blended it with a 5150.
Justin Lee I think it was a framus cobra on killing with a smile and a 6505 on Horizons. I could be wrong though.
+jakeSINbernhard I'm sure on horizons it was the cobra/5150 blend and killing with a smile was 5150 only
assuming they didn't reamp theres sections in this video where you can see the cobra lit up, and others where it's not. there was a block letter 5150 directly beneath it so must be a blend or something.
Adam D should have produced Deep Blue too

He was going too, Parkway approached him and asked him to Produce it and he said yes. But with both of them doing things, Adam In Killswitch engage, they couldn't get the time were both of them were free to do it.

Still fucking great PWD forever

ok
Anyone who doesn't know Adam D doesn't know anything about metalcore bands.
I don't really like the quality of Horizons, it sounds so processed, especially the drums, which sound better on KWAS. Deep Blue is more raw and has a more crunchy, aggressive guitar tone and the drums sound way more natural.
