As a regular viewer of several 24-hour nature/animal streams, I highly recommend putting a time-stamp on your videos so that clips can be dated and/or ordered, and so people coming in to the stream for the first time will know what the time is for Rex and the zoo :)

Honestly I believe that almost any animal capable of thought is able to learn and respond to the people that take care of them. It might not be 'love' in our concept of the word, but in reptile language, if we make them feel safe, fed, and cared for, it's almost the same thing ^^

Hmm I was just looking back on her older videos, when they still thought she was a boy and she has grown a lot since then. I didn't notice as I was watching over time, but going back it's amazing. The love, enrichment and nourishment she has gotten from Ed and Emily has done amazing things for Rex. In one video Emily says she is not likely to grow, because of being stunted etc and she has, to everyone's delight, I am sure! Yet she is still small.

Hey I just had an important thought, and I'm sure you've probably already thought of this but I thought I'd put it out there just in case, you may want to put up signs in the different places you're going to put cameras for live streams so that people know that they or their kids may be on a live stream if they enter certain areas, I also recommend offering viewing blind spots for people who would like to view without being on live stream and/or times of the day when the cameras are turned off and people can come in and view without being on live stream. Anyways, loving the stream, can't wait to possibly see more since I'm on the wrong side of the USA to visit. Hope y'all are well!
Yep we have a notice/waiver on the front doors and people can enter Rex's tunnel from the other side to not be seen by the camera :)
I love that you set up a live stream! But I want to give you a warning to not leave the chat open but unmodderated. Because if people or bots start to spam a bunch of trash in there, you yourselves can get into trouble with Twitch. And I would hate to see that happen. A few options are:
- Get a few mods in different timezones that can keep an eye on chat.
- Disable the chat in the settings.
- Put the chat into emote only mode.
To add to this make sure you guys join the animal specific category!
There's many other ways to control chat moderation with bots. You don't need to disable the ability to chat to make it a safe space 24/7.
You know what makesme tear up?
Knowing that Rex can see thousands of people but still recognise Emily as mom. They way she can just float there and just lovingly stare at this human who saved her from what must've been the roughest childhood/young adulthood possible.

If you plan on having this up 24/7, please consider going into Twitch settings and making it so that users have to have a verified phone number to participate in chat! There's been strings of "hate bot raids" happening to streamers big and small for the last few months at the very least, and it could lead to your stream being taken down permanently!
Preferably not; plenty of us do not want to give Twitch personally identifying information.

I’d recommend putting a “smile your on camera” by the one side of rex’s cage and then a url to the twitch stream just so they know and also are more likely to see the stream

Seeing her literally get half out her pool once she saw Emily literally put me in aw (I died from cuteness)
Ignoring the fact that Rex could seriously maim you, she is absolutely precious! You can tell how much she loves her new space. You can also tell how bonded she is with Emily and Ed. And I've never seen a reptile scratch before!!
Rex being able to thrive like this just makes me so happy. She looks so pleased to exist how an alligator should be able to.
Well, it's still not the same as in the wild ofcourse. But atleast it's a lot better than the box they saved her from. I don't think she could go back into the wild anyhow, and she obviously has a good life. Maybe i'm overly critic, but i wish she had a bigger pool
@@Lilly_watermelonsugar Yeah they address in another video, I forget which one, that Rex wouldnt be able to survive long in the wild do to her stunted size meaning she'd be out competed by other alligators as well as her being pretty bad at hunting, and too social with humans. Staying in captivity is really her best bet unfortunately and theyre doing a great job giving her the best life they can. I do agree that her pool should be bigger though. I understand space and cost limits them a bit, but hopefully in the future after they've been able to build their finances back up they can upgrade her again! I'd love to see her in a pool that she could really swim around in.

@@duckmen5121 yeah! I'm not criticizing at all, I think they're doing amazing for Rex! Sure it's not perfect, but it's better then she'd get in a lot of other places, and you can see she enjoys herself a lot and is very happy. I can't even imagine trying to afford a tank big enough for her to really swim around in.
I love how the kids behind Emily wave not only are watching them install the camera and not rex, but all wave the second they get caught on camera.

this is so cool! and as an artist having these cameras up create some unique opportunities for "live" drawing , we use so often these type of livestreams from zoos when we can't go in person or for particular animals! I definitely look forward to see what other animals will be part of the streaming cycle
Be careful with Livestream commenters. Some are nasty. Maybe a timed chat, or emote only could help? But most SnakeDiscovery viewers are very polite, so maybe it will be okay.
Yeah or they'll need moderators which will add cost to keeping a stream going

I came to visit last weekend and went straight to Rex when the zoo opened. She looked at me and then did the coolest death roll. I wish I had taken a video of it!

What I have really enjoyed with Tex in her new enclosure is her ability to float and swim fully submerged in the deep pool. I watched the video of when she moved in and wondered how big a change that was. Not as much as when you introduced her to her own pool but definitely different.
I never thought I’d see an alligator stare at someone with…love and adoration? Lol but Rex was pretty dang cute at the end looking at Emily trying to get her attention 😊🥰

This is a huge bonus for those of us who live in a different country and can’t come visit your zoo and Rex in person! I also can’t wait to see what other animals you point one of the other cameras at!!
What a generous gesture by the company who sent you all of those cameras and equipment!
Those cameras are pricey enough, especially when you have just completely renovated your new zoo and started your new business. If you guys are like most people, all of that work, construction, building new enclosures, all from scratch, I mean, completely renovating that large space and then setting up an entire zoo! Also, the purchase of some of your animals. All of that has to be very expensive and would make most people broke!!
So, I would think that buying a new surveillance system, with 6 cameras, that would not be in most people’s budgets at this early stage of your new business!

You know this has some good possibilities for medical observation. If she (or any of the other residents) was to fall ill, you could keep an eye on them very easily with a system like this.

Even if you need to get another camera, get one in the back where you can stream snake programs. Then schools can log in when they can’t have you come in. Then you could have schools from all over the country get you to do programs. Just couldn’t let them handle the snakes. But could also show animals that are not safe for programs
If you haven’t already, you might want to put up a sign that the enclosure is being live-streamed and that clips can be saved so people are aware that videos of their kids in the tunnel will be on the internet.

Just watched a bit of the stream, the gnome is freaking people out so that's really funny. Also music is kinda loud and I have a suggestion you guys can put on screen a clock to know what time is for Rex and also her feeding schedule so we can join when that happens.

I've read many times where zoo keepers say many animals in zoos enjoy watching people. It becomes a favorite part of their entertainment. Or at least an expected part of their day. During the lock down and disasters like Hurricane Katrina more intelligent animals became depressed and bored without the entertainment of watching people.
In some zoos in Germany they did live streams via tablets so the animals could people watch. :) Thank goodness zoos are open again and were only closed for a couple of months.
Rex is really drawn to Emily! Aww. A lot of people don't associate scales with being sensitive. But they really are. So cool!

I had a question, do you tell the folks going into the tunnel that they likely will end up on a Livestream or make them sign any waivers? I can see some parents not being okay with their kids' faces being publicized on the internet without their knowledge or consent.

I think you guys need some mods in your twitch chat! (/nm) some people are putting their ages and links in the chat. Mods with help deal with the links and help change the subject! People are also sharing their location. As well as arguing with other chat members because they refused to change the subject. Some chatters are really off-topic and need to be timed out maybe. Anyways, love seeing Rex w/ her jolly ball!
You should add some floating water hyacinth and/or other floating plants for Rex to hide amongst, as the gators do down in the swamps.

When I see Ed and Emily together it makes me soooo cozy. They're legit meant to be together. It seems like Ed always knows how to do everything, he is so talented. Emily is incredibly smart and bubbly, I feel like she has ideas and ed can help her make it real life. They just compliment each other so well. With the two of them together I feel like they can overcome and figure anything out. Not to mention Emily looks like a real life pixie hollow resident. She's genuinely so beautiful, but also adorable at the same time.

Livestream is awesome, and I would highly recommend setting up bots and have employees moderate chat to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere.

This is a great idea!! Although, I would recommend getting some moderators for the Twitch stream to ensure that 'shenanigans' don't happen while you're away from the computer.

I opened a TWITCH account just to watch Rex. Rex’s fans have been chatting all night…well night for US, there were people from around the world. It’s very cool that Rex has a worldwide audience…Wales, England, UK, France, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Slovakia, Romania, Austria, India, Norway, South Africa, Germany, Singapore, the Netherlands, Philippines, Sweden, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Brazil, and so many states…I’m sure I missed some but unbelievably those were all represented.
Edit: The gnome was creepy staring right back at us. There were 500-600 people watching a sleeping alligator and a creepy gnome listening to music ever since you did this video then those watching got even bigger. I love this stream.
Even if it's just for food, Rex seeking out Emily is one of the most precious things ever.

visited the stream at about 5:30 AM (I'm in CST too) and there were people from lots of places like Australia constantly asking what time was for her, so maybe add a visible clock to the corner of the stream?
EDIT: Also there was quite young ones sharing their ages on there, so it may have to be switched to emote-only mode. if you want to keep chat, you are going to need mods. Twitch is a dangerous place for as you on people some of your audience is.

I have a suggestion for the cameras! If it's not too much bother to do it, why not do a little studying of your current enclosures (as well as the enclosures of any new animals you're planning on getting) to figure out which ones would be the most entertaining to watch? You could create a points system to determine eligibility for cameras/live streams based on visibility, variety, fan/subscriber votes, activity, etc. Maybe you could even set up a camera for people adopting your rescues to talk about their plans with their new pets! Obviously, y'all are incredibly busy, and doing this would be a lot of work (which I'd be more than happy to do myself if I could, but I'm across the country from y'all, among other things, that would make that incredibly impractical); if it's not viable for whatever reason, that's totally okay! I mean, it is your zoo, animals, cameras, and channel, after all. Love the work you guys do!

Rex is such a happy girl! I love to see how at home she is. I just upgraded an enclosure for a pair of alligator lizards and seeing them use the space and be so happy and relaxed has convinced me to upgrade everyone else as soon as I have the space. I want a camera in each of your enclosures so I can see them all be happy. I need to visit your zoo someday!

You should probably replace the stalagmite thingy in Rex's pool with something more slender so that she has more water volume to herself. Also, something to act as a stepladder when she's getting out of the pool.
