I find it hilarious when the tadpoles have no front legs one minute, and then an hour later they have two full front legs. I completely freaked out when my Pacific Chorus Frogs spontaneously popped their front legs within an hour :)
Gosh, this made me think of a scifi book I read as a kid. Dang, what was it called? A kid inherits an alien 'puppy', that starts growing very quickly. One day, he's giving a good scratch and front legs pop out, scaring the heck out of him. Turned out the puppy was a missing alien queen, who says she's been raising 'john thomases'. lol. I wonder if I can find that book again.
I found it! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star_Beast The star beast by Heinlein. Ah, good memories!
I was 69 like (I think)
Same thing happened to me. I even got to see one of them pop its front legs out!
My frog got his front limb stuck under the skin. For like two days he swam lopsided and you could see the limb trying to move under the skin. Terrified me until I woke up one morning and he was fine.

Adorable! Just found eggs in my milk frog tank, fingers crossed!
Hi u prob wont see this but we have just found a TON of frog eggs in our pool and we have no idea how long they’ve been there for (estimate 2days-1week) and have a question Is it possible for them to survive and hatch even after living in chlorine (if it helps we are pretty sure they are green tree frogs)
Update for anyone wondering they survived they hatched a day after however the two big ones ate all the small ones so it went from 60 tadpoles down to 2
@@UrFavF4tty uh oh
@@pale_profile7237 what?
@@UrFavF4tty the fact the big ones ate all the small ones, it’s something when baby frogs use hormones to manipulate their younger siblings into not growing immediately and them after when there is no food or just get hungry eating them.
i found milk frogs in my daughters kiddy pool il let her keep them she named them mlik and cookies and there parents they have eggs !
I have a kid pool in the yard for my beardie, that got left out, filled with leaves n now serves as a small pond for the frogs. When I noticed tadpoles at the beginning of summer I wondered what to feed them; wound up getting fish flakes n they go crazy for it. They all come to the top, you can see them nibbling away, totally cute!
Who else agrees with me that Emily and Ed does youtube shorts to update on these frogs
Yes
Me
Why
@@lisah.8838 so we can have updates on the frogs
Tadpoles tend to produce a hormone in the water to inhibit their siblings growth. In the wild these siblings often will become food for their larger siblings if they get hungry enough. Tis why you saw differential growth. I raised wood frog tadpoles three years in a row and it was sooo fun!
with the tadpoles being taken out bit by bit, will all the survivors grow into frogs or are they kinda just eternal tadpoles now?
@@KittenLove536 I'd like to know this as well. Hope they answer 🤞🏻
@@KittenLove536 some tadpoles lack growth hormones and will stay tadpoles forever

I really love this kind of video where we can see things that took very long in a little video like this! I know these kinds of videos take a lot of work, and I just want you to know that your work is very much appreciated! I’ve been an avid snake discovery watcher for almost as long as you’ve been making videos
I like how you named one tadpole Stephanie and Billy. I am so happy you took them in. If the first owner did not notice and kept throwing the baby tadpoles they would not have survived.
Oooooo can we get a t shirt with all the cute stages of the frogs posed all cutely?? I would love that!!!
And have all the stages labeled with Roman numerals and then a key with the names of the stages at the bottom. Made to look like illustrations from a text book.

I hate it when poop feels like legs... Look I know it's TMI, but I have chronic illnesses that cause chronic gastric problems, and if I didn't laugh I'd cry, so humour me...please?
It’s an honest problem though. I raised tadpoles for food for my frog (he won’t eat anything else but the fully legged ones) and the confusion is real.
I love how you always have a sense off humor and give fascinating information about the reptiles/amphibians/arachnids.
The adults are SO CUTE...and the babies are even MORE cute!!!!!!

When my daughter was little, we rescued & raised tadpoles from a puddle drying up. We were hooked & did some every year! We lived on a creek so release was totally good as the area was the same. Even took some to school for the class to watch grow. Frogs are amazing!!!
Awww
I raised some tadpoles out of my pool
Some died and some became frogs
It was so cuteeee
The front legs develop internally inside the gill pocket of the tadpole's body. They don't emerge until the tadpole is almost ready to make its frog/toad debut and leave the water.
When you were showing the tadpole with legs on, there is a pickle flowing across the screen and it was so funny😂😂😂😂😂❤
You can tell when they took a looong time on a video lol just from the beginning I noticed the start of it was the week after soft opening. Just a tad-pole bit rude.
It is common for tadpoles to cannibalize their siblings but it's kind of a good thing because if all of those eggs were to hatch there be hundreds of frogs which would probably crash the ecosystem
And in nature they are food for other animals in that pond too. In all of their developing stages. That's why there are so many eggs.
yes! And, usually animals like that also produce lots of eggs because, like turtles, very few survive. so turtles, frogs, ect have high egg counts.
It's pretty normal actually, this is common amongst a lot of animals. Only a few can survive.
Plus they become food for other animals.
Considering the low populations of amphibians as it is. That wouldn't be a bad thing.
The one week later and the one eating the eggs that said Mmm siblings...,GOT ME
That was so cute at the end when the little frog went on the big frog😍😍😍
6:09 “I hate it when poop looks like legs.”
Watching this after raising a bullfrog tadpole for almost a full year now who's only just now growing his front legs, I'm amazed how fast these grew!
So how's your bullfrog doing?
No
@@kimberlyeudy2010 what’s the point of your comment?
Yeah bullfrog tadpoles take about 2 yeahs to become frogs, they get pretty big after a year, though! (Or not, I was 7 or 8 when I found a year old on in my man made pond.)
The journey of little Stephanie hatching was more compelling than most movies!

Especially when their back legs first emerge soo super underdeveloped, like someone ordered their legs from Wish and they were 6 sizes too small but they took a photo for the review anyway. 😆😂😂

i LOVE raising tadoples. I worked with a nature conservation club for a while, we'd collect frogspawn of the more endangered species in spring and raise them in fishtanks at home, then release them to the spot where we collected their spawn. It was great. sadly because of Covid we didn't get to join the project this year.
I love the encouragement for Stephanie the frog, I feel represented lol
