  • HUION is a brand of graphics/display tablets that have been making a headlines of being a quality alternative to the WACOM. One of the biggest hooks of a HUION tablet is their more affordable pricing compared to the expensive and high quality WACOM. The device I will be looking at is the Kamvas Pro 20.
Many thanks to HUION for sending me this hardware.

Ive actually had this exact tablet for about half a year now and its proven to be a quite wonderful piece of hardware.
Honestly, if they just improve mainly the screen's ability for color accuracy, Wacom's Cintiq might no longer be in the spotlight in the foreseeable future.
Thanks for the review and animations - they are absolutely wonderful and inspiring.
    Cheers!

Bought it a week ago and absolutely love it :) That said, I spent quite some time getting the screen/pen calibration right, because lines ended up slightly above left for me in the beginning. Once that was fixed, drawing on this thing was super fun :)

    • @cultofape1000
      @cultofape1000 5 лет назад +5

@@nancydriessen594 no easy solution unfortunately. You just have to figure out how the calibration works. For me for instance I found that marking to the upper right of the dots gave me the best results, but it also depends on your point of view (literally). I basically started by exaggerating the offset to understand the calibration system and then just tested myself to an adequate solution. Of course with a screen like this where there wil always be parallax the key is to try to always straight in front of the screen, but it´s not always possible. A laminated screen would be ideal, but alas more expensive :P

Out of the various wacom alternatives, Huion is the one that offers more real state. They are the only ones who bother with some industrial design in their tablets, they always look nice and different from the competition, solidly build too. Price wise they're right in the middle between Wacom and other cheaper alternatives like X pen, Ugee and Parblo. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

    Finally a review for this!
I bought one two weeks back and recently returned it. Overall though it is a great value for the price, just not for my personal needs.
I found that the actual drawing experience was flawless, but everything else fell pretty flat. For example after drawing, to select any panels in PS requires you to really press to activate, more so than you would drawing. I found myself having to really press down on panel ui's in order to move/drag them. These tiny little details added up , making the flawless drawing experience kind of void. This is most likely because I've been using the pro pen 2 for a while, and so the lack of subtle sensitivity of clicking with the pen bugged me.
Also the colors, particularly saturated reds + yellows were always washed out. Even using two display monitors, it's super annoying to see your work on the huion washed out and then have it be overly blasted in saturation on my iMac; adding a new variable of difficulty when working with color.
BUT overall this is the best huion product for its buck. I personally am going to invest in the more expensive alternatives, as color reproduction and subtle pen click ability are worth a premium to me!

I switched to a Huion Q11K when my new Cintiq 27 QHD died after only 3 weeks. The Q11K held up nice and I had no issues for nearly a year. I then went to "upgrade" back to a newer Intuos Pro Large and as of last week had to go back to my Huion Q11K as the newer Wacom's drivers keep failing and the nib wear is insane on the new pens. Huion is working hard and has gained my respect. I'm tiered of being let down by Wacom and wasting thousands of dollars.

I'm confused about "IPS LCD is not the best kind. Leaving colors and contrast to feel washed out and muted".
What would be a better alternative? I don't see VA being any better because of less viewing angle. OLED would make this way too expensive.

    • @HorseyWorsey
      @HorseyWorsey 13 дней назад

Its not. He's blaming the IPS LED for the washed out image instead of the matte screen protector glued on the screen (which dulls the color and brightness) which others have complained about already. Most likely anyway.

I have watched several reviews on Huion screentablets. All reviewers mentioned the driver issues, but also that it only happens when you have other screen tablet drivers installed. If you uninstall the current driver for your screen tablet and then install the Huion one, it should run fine without any issue.

I got this tablet within a week of its release, the hardware side of this tablet is excellent coming from someone who has used older pen displays but has never been able to afford a wacom.
However the software is terribly frustrating, it constantly switches brushes and colours on me in the middle of drawing without warning or reason. I can be working over a piece and suddenly it will start erasing or painting in a different colour completely destroying my flow and this can happen multiple times in a few minutes or i can get half an hour of proper usage, it's so random.
It also has a habit of de calibrating and often the software to change the settings will refuse to open so I'll have to restart the computer to make changes.
With all the great previewsabout huion lately i was massively excited about this product but since my issues i have found online that their is a large community of othed customers with the same problems id not worse on multiple different devices in their range, please research.

I would definitely try and send yours back; it sounds like there's something severely wrong with it.
I have the Pro 20 as well, I bought it at the beginning of December. I do not have these issues at all- no de-calibrating, no random tool swapping, nothing. I set the E key to the pen so I can quickly erase (since I can't just flip my pen around as though I was using a Wacom pen and 'erase' with it) and I also have a button set to tool switch for Clip Studio and your issue hasn't happened to me at all.
Maybe these tablets have weird quality control issues, I don't know, but I'd contact them and see if they have a warranty or if you can just send it back, because what you're experiencing definitely isn't what's supposed to happen.

That is true by default quick access buttons are mirrored for both sides. But you can easily remap them in driver software. At least thats the way I do on my Huion Kamvas pro 22(2019).So at the end I got 20 qiuck access buttons. And even more, if you press little gear in right upper corner, you'll be able to make different sets of hotkeys for every software you choose! I guess same for your model too.

I´ve been thinking the same thing, i never really liked drawing in digital with a surface tablet, i like drawing traditionally and surface tablets feel awful. I try to do my figure studies and gestures in digital and never feels right. i´ve never used a monitor tablet but i think it will help me a lot in mimicking the traditional better. Seems like a good investment since 99.9% of my income is digital and i don´t think i´ll ever lenjoy drawing on a piece of plastic completely detached from where my artwork is.

Interesting to hear that about the color gamut and screen viewing angles.
Is this the revamped 2019 model? Or did that come out later that year?
Also, can you still make out the individual pixels in the 1080p display with the matte screen like you can with a glossy 1080p screen? (I'm partial to higher resolutions, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth waiting for the 24" Kamvas Pro's 2.5K screen or just going with the 1080p 22" instead.)

I'm thinking about getting something like this but I'm afraid about any compatibility issues or performance troubles due to lack of OS X support. And a lot of reviewers never really tackle these subjects from a multi-platform perspective.
Is it more or less the same experience with working on PC? Is it better? worse? Are you going to ignore my inquiry and just proceed to mock me for having a Mac in the first place? Any answer would help...cept the last one.

Hey there, I’ve been using a Huion GT156HD V2 for almost a year now on my Macbook Pro Mid-2012, and it’s been working well for me. There are issues: I can’t use it with Clip Studio Paint (the pressure sensitivity is a hit or miss), and selecting colors on the color wheel in Photoshop is faulty (the pen lags behind and is therefore inaccurate, I have to use the trackpad or a mouse to accurately select a color). I don’t use Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint a lot though, so these issues haven’t been a deal breaker for me. I work with TVPaint and it works well with it, so that’s a huge plus for me and the main reason why I’ve kept it.
I have an iPad Pro and I personally prefer using the Huion for animating, as the lag when using Astropad kills the animating experience for me. Plus, I can use the Huion as a monitor in case I shift to workin on a Windows OS.

It sounds like the 2018 version didn't offer that but the 2019 model lets you do it, unless I'm wrong..

I'm not here to defend Wacom, but you're wrong about Cintiq's video situation.
One thing to remember about DVI is that you can just get a little adapter and turn it into HDMI. You can get 2 adapters for $7 on Amazon. I would rather have HDMI out than DVI because even if was using DVI on the machine the HDMI port is smaller, but it's the same signal in either cable for digital video.

VGA, don't use that, it's analog and you'll get a bad signal. If you've spent enough to have a Wacom tablet (or even this tablet) and you're using VGA, you're doing something very wrong. I wish things didn't include a VGA port anymore so people wouldn't use it. It's hard to express just how old VGA is now. We're talking 1980's technology.
But, if you must (which you shouldn't), the Wacom (Cintiq 22HD) in your picture is using DVI-I, which can produce a VGA signal. You don't need to pop open the machine unless you're replacing the cable (I admit it's pretty dumb that it's attached like that). You just stick an adapter on the end.

Wacom wins by brand only, the new 16" they offer does not have laminated screen, which means you'll likely to have parallax issue.

@@Userdoesnotexit The feeling when you write cant be comparable.
Wacom still the best in comfort and pen feel.

@@muhsetio i know ... but the fact that huion go so fat in such short time .. soon enough they will get their ... the only problem with huion is the screens when it comes to contrast but overall ... i would go with huion over wacom

and when they do fix their screen and better models and such since they do jump and evolve fast, the market of wacom will shrink slowly
stuff like these will become more cheaper over time and wacom will be just alone if they do not apeal to this market
