    The first display tablet I bought was the Huion GT-191 (original), and for ~$500 it is/was quite good. I (very carefully) applied my own custom screen protector from Photodon, which made the pen experience really nice and smooth, and prevents your bare hand from sticking to the display. The contrast wasn't great on that either, but to be fair, it isn't stellar on my Cintiq 22HD either (although quite a bit better). My main issue with that particular tablet was its rather flimsy build and small bezels-- not really an issue if you're using it stationary, but when mounted on an arm, the entire tablet flexes and creaks when moving. I upgraded to a Cintiq 22HD (~$1800), by contrast is very sturdy, and the huge bezels really make it more comfy to use, and the etched glass means a clearer display (versus screen protector) and less parallax error. As Lisa mentioned, Huion's digitizer is still better than N-trig (with EMR-like hover detection distances, too), so if you want a display tablet on the cheap, they are still great imo.

      Agree, you might change your mind if you try this one though... I have the last year model at home (Kamvas GT 221 Pro) with bigger bezels and I have a Cintiq 22HD at work. Price aside, it's very hard to tell which one is better, but I like the Huion because of the 8,192 pressure levels and the design is a bit more compact for a smaller desk

    You were wondering why the jitter is important in your video. For me it’s super important when I clean up frames in my animations that it’s as smooth as possible. You usually do it quite slow, and I ended up using my Galaxy Tab s3 over my Surface Pro when out and about for some quick work stuff, because the surface pen was basically unusable. I assume digital inking comic books would be the same deal. I use a proper Cintiq otherwise ;)

      @abiybattlespell8401 5 лет назад +5

      Ya but if ur taking it seriously u need to live by todays standards and any issues tht arise cuz of lesser tech mite result in more money lossed to do slower work production. Like the pen jitter issue can def be of concern if ya do alot of linework. And having to constantly check colors on anotheer screen is just uneeded extra work that adds up. And for 900 u can easily buy either a Ipad pro or the 13 inch cintiq. Both of which will work better then this. Only upside i can see to this screen is maby if ur a sketcher or do a messy style of art that ya dont ever plan to print.

      @@@abiybattlespell8401 disagree entirely. You avoided the point made by rage.
      Yeah you can use the iPad Pro but you have to live with iOS as for the 13 Cintiq, the tech is or was similar. Remember also that it's only because of increased competition from Apple and the Chinese manufacturers that Wacom were forced to do something about the crappy digitisers they gave to tabletPC manufacturers. It's only because Microsoft pushed the development of AES that we have the new EMR2 that now costs so much again.
      Wacom sat on their technological advantage for 20-30 years and did not innovate.

    Lining that up next to the Wacom Cintiq Pro, and it becomes evident straight away that this Huion doesn't even compare. I'm not a Wacom fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. And if you're prepared to spend nigh-on a thousand bucks for a Huion pro, then you might aswell spend another thousand and get a Wacom Cintiq.

    Hello. In every review you make about this kind of tablets, I notice that you set a 7k or 8100K color temperature setting... Can I ask why ? Is it not super cold? Shouldn't it be 6500k, ie, the ideal point for photography (although some say that a bit warmer, 5400K is better for print, but for my painting, 6500K seems to not introduce distortions). I even use bulbs with that color temperature, 6500k.
    I'm super intrigued about the matter, maybe it's something I don't know...

    Hey Lisa,
    sorry for double posting but I hope you'll read this.
    I want a Thinkpad x1 tablet 3. gen. I've heard of some reviews that the thinkpad pen feels more like writing on glass (slippery) than other pens. Is that true? What do you think is the best Wacom AES pen, if I want to come as close as possible to a cintiq experience.
    Best regards and keep it up!

    jeez, that shot of panning from the cintiq to the huion (8:34) and seeing the stark difference in contrast/color accuracy literally made me cringe. color issues have been one of the biggest frustrations for me using the ugee 2150 for the last four years or so and it seems like wacom is still miles ahead of the competition in that particular area. but that cintiq price tag.....yikes.

  • @bjnslc

    I don't see the appeal of a poor quality display just to get the direct drawing interface. In fact, I prefer a separate tablet so my hand and stylus aren't obstructing the view while I work on a wide gamut, high res pair of monitors. It's pathetic that Adobe has yet to fully support Windows Ink stylus dynamics, but that's Adobe. I've been looking at the Huion WH1409 V2 tablet with the same batteryless pen. I read a comment that the tilt feature worked in Adobe apps with that tablet if you had the Wacom tablet drivers installed. Of course I can't confirm the accuracy of that info, but it might be worth checking out.

    I've been researching screen tablets to buy my first one, and I'm completely lost lol. I don't make money as an artist, but I'm enjoying learning digitally because it's not messy. The thing is, I don't have the money to buy something like this often. I looked at this and the Huion Pro 13. I don't want to get something small, but I wonder if the 22 would be too large. As far as the kind of art i like to do: I like landscapes, abstract stuff, and trying to make digital paintings of my photographs.
    Or... I could get copics and skip out on digital. But then the ink gives me a headache instead of staring at a screen.... I need enough money to just buy it all lol.
