    27 yo here learning to drive for the first time alone. Can't overstate how much this channel has built my confidence and encouraged me to get back out and keep practicing despite being anxious and even discouraged at times by making mistakes. Most people in the states learn how to drive at/around 16, but that's certainly not the case for everyone, particularly those growing up in low-income households. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has taken comfort in "knowledge is power", especially when learning something unfamiliar, and that keeps me coming back to these videos to learn something new. The points where you mention common beginner mistakes and their remedies are particularly comforting. They remind me that I'm not the only one who struggles with these particular things, and we're all learning together. Thank you so much for sharing these videos and for your patient instruction.

I'm an immigrant here in the US for about three months now and I just got my driver permit on Monday. I have been binge watching your videos since I got my permit and I wanna thank you for making them so simple yet informative. Your instructions are easy to understand and I learned a lot! I began to practice driving two days ago and my husband was so surprised I already know how to do some things properly like turning left or right, reversing, parking (I still have to work on my parallel parking skills though), turning lanes, etc. All thanks to you, sir!
    I'm really eager to learn how to drive and just doing it makes me feel that I can really do it! 😄 I feel a little more confident now in driving and it has only been three days! LOL

      I think you should only use it on a highway that is flat and straight for the most part. It can be a helpful tool for cruising at a constant speed, but please be safe by not using it in bad weather (slippery road surface), when the road turns too much (or is hilly), or where there are a lot of cars or objects around you.

    • @reiniertl
      @reiniertl Месяц назад +1

      I like to use mine a lot just because my foot gets very tired by trying to keep the speed constant. Particularly on long drives is very useful. It also helps save gas..
      Now, what he mentioned in the video is true, you do get complacent if not very aware. What I do is to periodically check that my foot is in a position where I can brake very fast if needed. Another thing I do is to put the foot on the brake pedal anytime road conditions change. For example if I notice someone trying to overtake me or vehicles in front. If I see other vehicles in front change lanes and so on. It helps you stay aware that your foot should be ready to brake at anytime. Eventually it becomes a reflex and then it would be safe to use. As for the operation just follow the manual, but usually there is a button (usually on the left of your wheel) to arm it, then when you brake it disengages. Other buttons are used to re-engage, like up down speed or return to cruise control like in my car. Try to use it in the city when going at low speed and there is low traffic, until you get used to it without looking at the control.

    Yes, a video on cruise control, please.
    I usually keep my foot on the brake. It never occurred to me that people use it to take their feet off of the pedals.
    Historically, it was supposed to be used for passenger comfort. It was invented by a blind man, who didn't like the unpredictable driving he experienced. Cruise control smoothed out the speed by keeping it consistent.
    I use it to drive as fast as possible without going over the speed limit.

    Cruise Control is awesome. It lets you mentally rest on long highways knowing your car is taking care of the speed. You don't need to take your foot off the accelerator while in cruise control. Just rest your feet on the accelerator as if you are driving normally. If you need to brake, it will be the usual movement on the brake pedal

  • @bryannguyen1260
    @bryannguyen1260 6 месяцев назад +1

    A helpful personal tip of mine is, given you're on a flat road, the reason behind keeping a constant pressure on the gas is to provide enough acceleration to even out the resistive forces (friction and air resistance). On a hill, you have gravity and whatever else to account for like letting off the gas downhill or accelerating uphill. Note that speed is scalar (only has magnitude like an amount but no direction like forward/positive or backwards/negative) and velocity is a vector (basically speed but it has magnitude and direction). Acceleration is the rate of change/derivative (for all my math folks out there) of velocity and as said before, you need a right amount of acceleration, like what Conduite did when he barely moved his foot 1:21, to counteract the resistive forces that will decelerate you. This is why if you let off the gas a bit or entirely, you slow down. Conversely, if you press the gas more as Conduite did 1:37, you speed up to overcome the resistive forces more but wind resistance becomes stronger as you go faster and that means a louder engine and less fuel economy.
    This should help new or old drivers on good gas pedal control because I've made the mistake myself of fiddling with the throttle a lot which took focus away from the road. Letting of the gas and punching it intermittently is not the way to go for comfort and control/traction. I figure explaining the physics and math behind it would be helpful. I hope teachers and parents can teach this tidbit cause things like these can be neglected and contribute to unsafe driving. Hope this was helpful.

    Yeah controlling your speed can be difficult at first, but overtime you get used to how you position your foot on the accelerator pedal. Plus, the feel of the pedals are important too, especially when you switch vehicles, so you can know how fast the vehicle will accelerate depending on how much you press the pedal. I had a 2017 Toyota RAV4 and now have a 2021 RAV4, and the pedals are very different, both in feel and when accelerating.

    Thank you for the tips. I swear I look away from the speedometer for 3 seconds and I go 10 over. My instructor just reminds me there’s a speed limit and becomes increasingly unhelpful :/

    I use cruse control, because I have a terrible nagging pain on my right hip that sometimes crops up on when I drive. When I do use it I place my foot on the break to make contact with it but without pressing it. Like that I'm always ready to break. The constant micro movements seems to cause the pain, cruse control gives me a bit of a breather.

    Please do one on Cruise Control-I don't teach it to my students, because they have the manual and I think it's an advanced skill, as you mentioned. I also don't use it, myself. Too many new drivers are looking for a way to NOT have to be in control of the car completely, and I think this isn't what they think it is. However, I do have some who are interested in it, so I would love to be able to provide them with this link. In reality, with Cruise Control, you have to be MORE alert, MORE in tune with or in control of, your vehicle. Most think it means LESS, as if the vehicle is really in control of itself! I appreciate your videos; they really give me new ideas on how to teach concepts in driving. When it comes to the pedal controls of the car, I ask my students, how many ads have you seen for fixing your GAS pedal? Of course, zero. How many have you seen for fixing brakes? Of course, many-so, therefore, which one do you use more, so that it wears out? Clearly, your brakes! Many new studenst are surprised at how much more they will be using their brakes than their accelerator.

      We teach our students to go 3-5 below the speed limit unless they are on the Interstate. One mile an hour over is a ticketable offense in Nebraska. Of course, most won't give you a ticket for that, because it's a lot of paperwork when they get back to the office, but 1-5 MPH over on our test, that is half the test, points-wise. Do that twice, it's a fail. If they do 6 over, automatic fail. We want them to have full control over the vehicle, so that's why. 6 MPH below is a few points, too. BUT, we fail usually only if that behavior is consistent throughout the test. Anyone can go 1-2 over due to nervousness, so if they catch and correct it right away, we usually ignore that. We just want everyone on the road to be a safe driver.

    Oh another thing. Most examiners have a digital speedometer app on their phone. So dont think they are not going to catch you going over or under the limit, they already know lol.

    Two different things: maximal allowed speed vs. maximal safe speed. 90km/h limit on a state road applies when the road is dry but also when it is icy. I prefer setting the speed based on the traffic (not being an obstacle for everyone going too slowly and not being a maniac driving dangerously) and consider the speed limits a good advice and reminder not surpass them. I think it is safer to do 5 or 10 km/h over the limit and focus fully on driving than doing 5 or 10 km/h and being distracted.

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  2 года назад

      Inappropriate speed. It is something, and you can get a fine for it even if you're driving at the speed limit in some exceptional situations. It's something I'll discuss in one of the future videos.

    • @jaroslavnemec289
      @jaroslavnemec289 2 года назад

      @@ConduiteFacile I just wanted to stress out that obeying the speed limit in any circumstances is incorrect. I typically surpass the speed limit on highways when overtaking in order not to block the passing lane.
      Speed limit is just an empirical value applied everywhere. When the state road is dry and wide, why wouldn't I go 100km/h? What is the right speed? Well, it depends. But it is not definitely constant.
