  • Speed - Zones and Limits. In this video: Different zones and what speed limits you usually see in them: Backstreets and alleys, parking lots, school zones, parks, urban areas, highways (or freeways) and service roads, national and rural roads, speed limit panels of other colors than white, and unadapted speeds.
    Note: While I try to make my videos as universal as possible, rules and laws may vary according to the place where you’re driving and might be different from the ones in this video. Always drive according to the laws and rules that apply to the place where you are driving. Requirements at the driving exam may also be different than the ones shown here. Always respect the requirements that apply to the place where you are passing your driving exam. The distances illustrated in this video might vary depending on the driver’s height, the size and type of the vehicle and so on. I got my license a few weeks ago but I still watch these videos. I’m much more relaxed now because I don’t have a test to worry about, but I’m far from a perfect driver so there’s still a lot of useful information to learn. Thanks Conduite Facile and good luck to everyone taking their test soon 🚗

    6:55 I had that EXACT situation happen to me today. I was driving in the middle lane of a 3-lane highway, and there was a truck behind me going faster. Since the truck can't use the left lane or pass me on the right, it would be stuck behind me, so I changed to the right lane and let the truck pass me on the left without using the left lane.

    interesting- in the United States the default is generally 20mph (32km/h) for school zones, but I realize it can be different depending on the state. There is a school by where I live on the border of Ohio and Michigan where the speed limit is 40mph (64km/h) on both sides of the border but the school zone speed limit goes from 20mph (32km/h) to 25mph (40km/h) crossing into Michigan

    For me in Ontario, these mostly do apply to me as well, except in my area, the common speed limits that I encounter on normal roads is 60 km/h and 70 km/h. My area does not have much in terms of national roads. In residential areas, it is 40 km/h most of the time, but some are also 50 km/h, surprisingly. I've only seen a few roads that have a speed limit of 80 km/h, at least in the neighbourhood I live in Ontario, but I don't encounter national roads too often. But for the most part, all the content in this video also this applies to me.

  • @dorinacarbune7346

    When you do those future videos on speed limits, please also add where the speed limits typically end. I frequently drive through a school zone here in Vancouver where the max speed is 30 km/h at all times. The limit is enforced by a second sign some 50 m after the school, with no clear reason for it. With no other road signs after that, I find it hard to determine where such a speed limit is expected to end.

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  2 года назад

      Usually, after the intersection where you saw the last 30 km/h sign, if there's no panel indicating any speed other than 30, it's back to 50, which is the statutory speed in urban areas.

    Here in ns the speeds on highways are 110,100 or 90 km/h .Speeds on residential streets are normally 50 or 40 secondary highways are 70,80,90 kmh. Back roads are often 60 or 70 and school zones are 30 if the existing speed limit is below 50.if the existing speed limit is higher than 50 the speed limit is 50

    can you do a video on pulling up to the curb and then reversing in a straight line parking video? My driving test asks for this to be done but i find it difficult to back up in a straight line when my steering wheel is straight but my tail is going in or out of the curb. Thanks

    • @WaldoBC
      @WaldoBC 2 года назад

      I have a few tips. Don't oversteer. Make minor adjustments in reverse. Also, don't think about left or right when driving in reverse and just think of where you want to go. Now, you should be looking out the back in the direction of travel. But, try using your curb side mirror (& maybe angle the mirror down to see the curb and back wheel). When you want to get closer to the curb steer in that direction then straighten out. Vice versa, when you want to move away from the curb, steer in that direction and then straighten out. Try this in a parking lot or on an empty street.

  • @WaldoBC
    @WaldoBC 2 года назад +2

    At 3:02, you stated, "When you have one of these panels with no conditions on it, you still have to respect that limit at ALL times." I disagree! The condition WAS the school zone sign. There is a major difference between that sign at 3:02 and a stand-alone 30 km/h sign (example at 2:30) which, actually, means 30 at all times (24 hours a day).
    When a school zone sign is attached to the 30, it's conditional to school hours which should be known. In the Quebec Highway Safety Code, section 329 states, "In school zones, from Monday to Friday and from September to June, the speed limit shall not exceed 50 km/h between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m." Also, I believe a sign with unmodified conditions (example at 2:38) adds to distracted driving when the EXTRA information isn't providing any new or different information than the default.
    Am I wrong?

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  2 года назад +1

      "from Monday to Friday and from September to June, the speed limit shall not exceed 50 km/h between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m."
      True. But that doesn't mean that if you have a non conditional 30 km/h you can go over that speed after school hours. It only means that you can't go over 50 km/h in a school zone.

    I was in Center lane doing 100kmph during road test on 401 highway. A car started tailgating me. My examiner asked me to move right but this car decided to move right instead. The guy went passed me zooming and returning suddenly to left lane without giving an indicator.
    I agree most people go with the flow but in road test, some other road users in traffic may create problem. I wonder if there is any way to let other road users know that this is a personal car which is currently being used for a road test with an examiner inside.

      Here, in most places, even if you bring your own vehicle, they put an "exam" dome on the top. If you go with a car from a driving school that already has a "driving school" dome, they sometimes go with that one, or they put an exam dome. It depends on the place.

    In BC, when no hours are stated, then that means from 8a-5p for school zone, and from sunrise to sunset for a park.
    When I learned in the 90s, the park zone was something like 30 minutes after sunrise and 30 minutes before sunset. If you forgot which 30 minutes it was when taking the test, and then decided to pick the safest answer, then they would mark it as incorrect. I'm still bitter about that.

    Conduite facile: Here's an additional fact on speed limits and zones. In NYC, the speed limit is always 25 mph because New York Cities has more traffic, construction, traffic officer and even kids going in and out of school, even if they're on lunch breaks. This speed limit is deducted to give pedestrians and other vehicles space.

      Some school zones are "conditional", and it's indicated on the speed panels. Ex: 30 km/h from September to June and from 7 am to 5 pm. If there is no such indication, then technically the speed limits apply at all times. Now will it be enforced in non-school periods? That's another story.
