    Have you started the 31 baby steps yet? How is that going?

      I’m currently on day 10, RUclips recommended you 2 weeks ago, and holy moly your channel is starting to grow very quickly. I swear you have jumped 10,000 subscribers in that time. You’re an interesting personality. :)
      Also are you still doing the fly lady method? I tend to make my own routines, over do it, and crash and fall behind on everything.

    • @ThatAwkwardMom
      @ThatAwkwardMom  2 года назад +7

      @@BookloverFantasy92 I am still doing the fly lady routine but I definitely fall behind. Especially around Christmas, I started to fall behind and now I'm trying to pick myself back up again! But I do notice that when I'm on top of my game and keeping up, the house is much easier to keep clean. Though we are human and so we need to give ourselves some grace when we do fall behind 😊 one thing I am horrible at is shining my sink, I don't have a dishwasher so doing the dishes is the WORST!! Hopefully I can get better about it over time. Did you end up finishing the 31 baby steps?

    • @BookloverFantasy92
      @BookloverFantasy92 2 года назад +3

      @@ThatAwkwardMom yes I did. Now I’m trying to do the routine as best I can. I struggled around Christmas too, and now school holidays (I have two children 4&5 with additional needs) and a 12 week old baby. So try to just do the best I can. Not everything gets done every day, but something is better than nothing. Even some cleaning a couple times a week is better than nothing. Just hard to do with all three kids at home as my husband works long hours and most of it is on my shoulders.

      Things I’ve learned since seeing your first FlyLady video;
      1. You are my new favorite youtuber.
      2. I missed the baby step list and need to go back and check haha.
      3. This system actually makes sense for me and is manageable.
      4. I CAN have a clean and tidy home and car.
      5. I’m not a failure for not knowing this before.
      6. Shoes and Timers can change my life.

    Hey Ariel! I just wanted to tell you I am now team Fly lady! Something really clicked for me recently, after starting the Weekly Home Blessing, that I was able to finally figure out how to break down the monthly, seasonal and rotating deep cleaning so that I get it done in 15minutes at best and 45 at worst during my zone cleaning. I no longer need to combine TOMM and Fly Lady! I don't do all the steps and routines, but the cleaning routines are all Fly Lady-inspired now. You and other Fly Lady influencers really helped make it possible for me to figure out how to make it work for me and my home. I am no longer stressed or overwhelmed, and I don't get de-railed when life throws me a curveball. Thank you for all the time and work you put into your videos! ❤😊

    I can connect with so many ideas and tasks, except one:
    One should NOT immediately make the bed after getting up, but take the blanket off the bed, shake it well , open the window and leave the matrace and blankets to cool off at fresh air. It helps to reduce mites for example and against which many people are allegic.
    So, first open the window, make your coffee, wipe your sink, get a shower ... and then make your your bed!

      As one of those allergic people, with an allergic husband and at least one allergic kid, I totally agree. Air the sheets out before making your bed! The bed will smell fresh for a bit longer, too, because you don’t trap the moisture from your body in.

But I had a Trojan virus invade my laptop... it's still not quite right, so now there are literally thousands of messages from everywhere, but I spent three hours yesterday using my phone to delete messages from last year. All but a dozen were Flylady... And I'm not done yet! Lol
      She's a very inspiring person. It takes time to build habits under any system. What I like most is that she understands! She doesn't shove things at you all at once, and she encourages you to develop the techniques but make them fit your own needs... and don't put yourself down when you backslide. Little things happen, you get up, and start wherever you landed!

    I’m a mom who has ADHD, had a mom with chronic illness, and has a perfectionist husband who does his best to be patient with my cleaning “routine.” It feels like I’m reinventing the wheel, and driving myself crazy in my own house. I was never really taught how to clean.
    Every time I start getting going on the Fly Lady thing, I get impatient or can’t look past how silly some of the steps are. I’m not going to wear shoes in my house!! But, I’m doing my best to trust the process.
    This video really helped me see ahead to what the process will lead to. Sticky note = control journal later? My forgetful brain is drooling! The shiny sink felt so silly, but doing dishes is one less step, so I enjoy that. I’m excited to start again.

      There are some aspects of FlyLady which are great for those with ADHD, and some parts which aren’t. It’s important to remember that whatever system you pick, you customize it for yourself and your home.
      At nearly-57, with ADHD (only quasi-diagnosed; it’s been suggested by primary care provider, but I never followed up with a specialist…and was literally decades ago!), I’ve found that works for me looks a bit like a meld between FlyLady and The Organized Mum Method, with a lean towards TOMM.
      You will figure it out!

      Oh. And I am barefoot in my house 85% of the time. My feet like their freedom. ;~). I wear shoes in the house when I need to inspire the “get it done” drive, when the tasks ahead are better done with foot protection, and when they are cold.

    Good summary & reminder! I started FL probably 20 years ago by reading the book. I’ve incorporated some of her ideas along the way, but I did get bogged down b/c it can seem complicated. However, I’ve worked it out in my head & by watching YT videos. I even have a Control Journal-all typed & pages inserted in plastic sleeves. Not sure where it’s is right now. :). Lots of the system I’ve adapted to has become routine enough that I can just do what’s in my head. This morning I used your tip to use Siri as my timer. After 20 minutes I’d made a big dent in a massive amount of paper clutter. I hope you’re feeling well these days. Last I saw you were quite “great with child.” Peace!

    Making your bed the moment when your feet hit the floor is the worse advice flylady could give. The bed needs time to dry and air because of dust mite. They thrive in a damp and warm environment. The moment you close your bed right after you feet hit the floor you give them a nice environment to thrive.
    I open my bed with the duvet over the footboard, smooth the bottom sheet and fluff the pillows. With my afternoon routine (after lunch) I close my bed. And when I don't get around to it... because I've pulled it neatly and laid it neatly over my footboard, it still looks pretty neat

      The whole point of Flylady is to have a routine even if it's different from hers.i too work long hours. I put the chore of the day in order and rotate through. Sometimes it takes a week and a half to get through home blessing hour. My refrigerator, purse and car get cleaned out less than weekly. Instead of swish and swipe everyday I do the toilet one day, the sink the next and then the tub the next. The only thing I stick to doing every day is make bed, wash dishes and do a load of clothes. I do what I can and it's way better than when I didn't have a system

    Thank you for this - it's the best (and shortest) summary of the 31 baby steps that I have come across. But I admit to some confusion. On day 12 we are told to delete all Flylady's emails from our computer - yet on day 16, we are told to look at the website for Flylady's emails! What does she want us to do? Aren't we still receiving Flylady emails, so wouldn't we already have what she wants us to read at the website? Although I know that the website says this, I think it's written in a way that is more likely to confuse than help people. I'd love to know what other people do or did when they came to these days.
    I love this channel. You make me smile, and that can't be bad. :-) Best wishes from the UK.

      Maybe you could start a "daily task chart" and assign certain tasks to each kid that they could rotate weekly? So for example, one week you could have one of your boys wipe down the toilets and sinks daily for that entire week, and then another one of your boys to spend that same week emptying the dishwasher in the mornings. Then the next week, the boys could have a different daily task to do throughout the week. And then you could make some kind of rule, like no TV time until you complete your daily task. Also you could have the whole family get together to complete the weekly home blessing each week! Maybe every Saturday from 10-11? Those are a couple ideas you could try :)

      Perfect! That sounds simple enough to do. So... wanna know something funny? My hubby suggested something similar and I was like, nah. Then you say it and I'm like "that's such a great idea" 🤣 poor guys! They deserve brownie points for their effort/and ideas :)

      @@karinayarn7589 FL has a control journal for kids!. I was introduced to "easy" cleaning by mom who started following flylady when I was around 9. I was super excited to have my own control journal and I felt really grown up having my own personal chores and schedule lol.

      I heard boys need to see dad or other men in the home do cleaning in order to become men who clean around the house too. If the just see mom and kids cleaning, they think just mom and kids should clean

    I'm yet to find a system for a working woman. I don't have time in the morning to clean a toilet and do laundry, and I'm already getting dressed (ya know, for work), and I don't think my husband would appreciate me making the bed with him still in it.

    I don’t like the 31 babysteps! Get so much in my head from going into her website. I’ve done Flylady ones in a while for about 15 yrs. For me it works best without her site and emails and apps. Just writing down the morning, afternoon and evening routines in a binder and stick to it! A loud of laundry a day and S&S are my favourites. And instead of “shine the sink” I simply clean the kitchen. If I stick to the rules the zone-work is also fantastic! Just started again yesterday and my home is already so much cleaner after the Homeblessing! I have also found out that I don’t like shoes inside! BUT! I put them on when I do the Flyladys things only! Then they make a big difference! They like set me on fire and I do it quickly! 🙌🏃🧹😍
