Rest in Peace John Prine. Few ever communicated the strength of American spirit despite the struggles many people face. What a gift to have heard his music.
Man, you said it...jsut a few seconds into the tune and I damn near want to cry....I loved him and his music since her first album ...1971...I was 20 years old
RIP John Prine. You were a true American treasure and will be greatly missed. You sing in the company of angels. We love you. Our prayers are with your loved ones.
Musician here. Just want to call some quick attention to how good John's band is. These players have some mighty good ears! They know just when and how to come in, and how to use a light touch to keep a firm hand on the music.
I agree completely! For live, acoustic style music the musicianship is paramount to bring an impact to the audience. Just because it's not extremely complex doesn't mean it's not great music. Prine was a gutsy, honest and gifted songwriter with insight beyond most and a passion for truthful lyrics that tugged at your heart and dug to your soul. What a terrible loss, yet I was indeed blessed to have seen him live way back in the day...a true blessing.
When you've achieved the awesome honor and privilege of supporting John Prine, you make every single note and movement count. Anything less would be blasphemy.
I have heard and seen every version possible of this song including all covers and I can honestly say this is his finest rendition, I like the tempo and non duet format. LEGEND class! Absolute Master of his art. There will never be another.
William, I so agree, I saw his death listed by someone else, and I burst into tears...so sad. He was old "enough" to die by other means....yet, he died by mean s that could have been prevented. I am so, so, sad about the loss of this great man. His lyricism, and his singing and entertaining were amazing. I am at a loss for words, truly, and I hope I have not mangled this post!!!
Love you, JP. God bless Fiona and your family. Going to have to use your music to get through this nightmare of not having you with us anymore. I'm angry and heartbroken, but so happy you have been a part of my life since the 70's. We've lost our genuis!! RIP John Prine.
The best songwriter of all time, that I know of. Thoughts and prayers to family. Extremely influential and inspirational to so many. Long live his legacy.
I ALWAYS GET THE SNIFFLES WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS SONG. ONE OF MY FAVORITE WE MISS YOU THANK GOD WE HAVE YOUR MUSIC TO HELP US THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES. RIP JOHN
Only knew John because of this song. Given me love and comfort via Bonny and Susan Tedeschi but my god it’s took his passing to realise how great this man was. God speed your love Mr Prine. Just beautiful. Love from Liverpool x
I'm so saddened by your passing John especially, since it had to be from Covid-19. You fought through two bouts of cancer and I was so happy to still see you out there making music. I can't thank you enough for all the wonderful music you have left us!! Through that...you will live on forever!! RIP Dear Man!! You are missed!!
@@samsides3449 I know. My wife wasn't a fan but she knew I was a big fan and she called me crying and told me. I think she was more of a fan than she wanted to admit.
I love how all truly great artists don't mind giving their songs to people who covered them and completely owned them. Just like Bob Dylan giving away All Along The Watchtower. True love for their art. Damn it, man. R.I.P
And he knew how to make a match made n heaven(song wise). Read a bunch of replies. Thanks 4recognizing that great quality, too. And the humor, don't get me started. 😂. Wish there were more givers like that.🤗💖🙋♀️.Stay safe.
John Prime is an artist I found late , as I found religion late It must take bad times to find really great treasures ... Rest in Peace Mr Prime and Condolences to his family
When I was really young John prine just so happened to be playing on my birthday in my hometown. My dad emailed his manager to get him to say happy birthday to me on stage. John prine changed my relationship with music and my view on life. Thankyou for everything you have done for me John. You will forever live in my heart ❤️
I love you John. I so wanted to see you on the 26th of June, but it was not to be. You and my secret love Emmy Lou were to be at The Wolf Trap on the 26th of June and now you are gone. I want to see you start that band in heaven and check into a sweet hotel. Put a good word in for me. You helped me navigate such troubled times in life.
❤ how fortunate am I to listen to John Prine, one of God's greatest gifts to western Kentucky and the world 🎉RIP John Prine 🙏 you live on in your FANTASTIC MUSIC
This guy could write a song. Wow We lost an icon with the likes we will never see again. How he managed to get those songs from his his head to paper amazes me. It's like he is reading our thoughts, feelings, and minds and putting them to music. In fact that's exactly what he is doing. How else can someone feel so close to someone you never met or know personally.
I read an article this morning in The Atlantic (sorry, don't recall the author) that spoke to me, in regards to the importance of John's music: "Prine said he tells young songwriters to be careful of the songs they write, because they might become hits, and then they’ll have to sing them the rest of their life. There’s an extension of this: It is possible to write songs that will be with other people for the rest of their life. There’s the music you put on in your house, and there’s the kind of music in which you make your home."
I always remember that picture of him and a guitar in front of a 1950 Ford. I got the same car now and dad was from Kentucky so I know a little... But not enough
Sadness in the world today with the passing of a great talent, John Prine. May God bless his family with the knowledge that they can be reunited in the heavens someday. May we all heed his wife's words - take COVID-19 seriously.
Greatest songwriter of all time? His career could’ve consisted of this song only, and he would have to be in the conversation..... but there’s so so much more. He’s a universe unto himself.
Terrible loss. I have been a big fan for nearly 50 years. I was going to see HIM in Amsterdam in August. One of the great contributions of the US to civilization.
Myself and my wife are looking forward to cutting a rug at your place in heaven we will bring a dish and few things from the garden, truly we are just too high too cry we danced with you through our whole life . RIP. Forever with the Lord E&C
Such a fertile mind of lyrical creativeness .... a voice like a gravel road and not always on the note ... but one does not mind ... when the laughter and loving of the tune is all we hear .... but, hear it no more Live ! God bless and rest thee old troubadour !!! Miss ya already, John.
"How the hell can a person go to work in the morning and come home in the evening and have nothing to say?" Best song writer ever. I miss him.
He was talking about my dad.
Chill bumps. Is all I can say.
Genius!
Be a truck driver
That is a good line. I think about that line OFTEN. ... particularly after I send people interesting messages and get no reply. 😁👌
