Thanks alot! Whenever I forget something about fog, I search for your video. One question, if you have many lights, but only want 1 to be affected by the atmosphere settings, how do you disable the other lights? I forgot how to disable in the settings of the light.
Thank you so much! I've spent days trying to get this effect with no luck and almost gave up. I know this video came out a while back, but by any chance do you know how the water ontop was made? Currently working on an underwater scene and bot tutorials I've looked up are using particle effect.
hey phoenix plus i got a problem i trying to make a foggy swamp enviorment but my fog is to close and the distence is 0.005 i dont know what going on any tips
hello Monica how are you ? i hope to be ok and ever thing good with u i would like to know which tools u use it to make this scene ? content Browser , Examples ,Fluids ocean Examples. underwater caustics . i know this but i think i forget something , my scene not complete or something i have to create it in the environment before i go to content browser.can u help me about this ?
Hi Mohamed, Thank you for your comment. Are you looking for a tutorial on the content browser? I have one right here! ruclips.net/video/BGTiTLYValQ/видео.html For this particular scene, it's not my scene. It is a free model in Original models from 3d Renderer: www.3drender.com/challenges/
I personally use spot lights because they are easy to use, aiming the direction is easy and the light is focused on a particular point instead of washing the whole environment. It gives me a lot of control. :)
I'd render a depth pass aov and add volumetric fog in nuke or some other compositing suite of your choice. Would achieve a similar if not better result and then there's still houdini.
Thanks for the tutorial! How do you deal with the Ai fog in the Render Layers? My fog is showing up in the mattes of all the meshes of the layer collection used to mask out the primary visibility object, and can't seem to get rid of them with overrides. Haven't been able to find any documentation on this. Does Ai fog make the scene impossible to render objects in separate layers?
Is it possible to make the Aifog work on some light and not others? I have two rooms in one scene and I want one foom to be filled with fog, but not the other. plz help
Absolutely! In the lights, scroll down. There should be an attribute called "Visibility". There are a bunch of sliders, drop "volume" down to 0. the light will no longer have fog. I hope that helps!
Hey Monica, also I am impressed by how incredibly easy is to handle fog and environment atmosphere in Arnold! That was totally unexpected to me, because all the other renderers I have used in the past (and still using, like V-Ray), don even come close to Arnold in this department. I am so pleased with this engine, really!
There are two things that most video tutorial presenters do to turn off an audience. the first one is to start the video with little or no pre-production preparation. The second one is to move the scene randomly with no particular intent. You have moved this scene non stop for the first 60 seconds with no particular intent. Please stop doing that, it is really annoying.
is there a way to use the fog feature but also see the hdri in the render? in my end the fog works but then the whole background of my environment is white
this is the more reliable, very well-explained and documented tutorial on youtube, by far. Thank you!
Thanks so much! Glad it helped!

Decreasing the volume samples to zero from the particular light's attributes. Very late reply but probably help someone who is having the same issue
Thank u so much...Who do u export as a pass this fog , so i can use it in Ps or Ae
Thankyou so much for this tutorial I needed this 😊😊😊😊😊
I'm surprised how easy fog is. :) I hope it's helpful, HopeplayZz!

Thank you....love it and the project 2 =)
Can you use both types of fog at the same time or do I have to render it twice with both different fogs and then combine it in a 3rd party software?
Unfortunately, no. You have to render one, and then composite the other one. Not easy, but it's possible. :)
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus Sadly as I expected (although it's not a big deal)... nevertheless thank you for the reply :)
Thanks for the tutorial
Your welcome, menghuan! Isn't it cool how easy it is!?
Thank you so much for the awesome tute!
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Excellent! C'est super comme tuto merci beaucoup :)
Merci!
Can this fog be animated? I want to make an overlay for a video, but don't want it to look still.
Yep! You can add a noise map to the density, and animate the noise. Hope that helps!
Oh man. I love you.
You are so kind, J M. Isn't fog amazing! :D
Yes fog and volumetrics make everything better! @@AcademicPhoenixPlus
why do you use the normal maya lights instead of the arnold ones?
I personally use spot lights because they are easy to use, aiming the direction is easy and the light is focused on a particular point instead of washing the whole environment. It gives me a lot of control. :)
Thank you for your tutorial!
You can have the fog and the volumetric both at once right?
Unfortunately, not that I'm aware of. It will take some compositing, which I'll be showing off in another tutorial. Keep an eye out for that! :)

does not work for me. Fog is either 0 or 100 percent white screen no matter what numbers i try

Thank you Roppinine! I really appreciate your comment. Keep an eye out for more! :)
what graphics card do you use for rendering?
Is this good for 2019?
Hello Monica, is there a way to combine aiAtmosphere with the skyDomeLight?
I haven't found a way. I think you'll have to do it the old fashion way... compositing!
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus Would have been too easy ;). Maybe one day you can do a tutorial with an atmospheric large landscape scene.
Thank you so much!!

what if you using a skydome
I think it just fills it with light, it doesn't create fog. I hope that helps Mr. B!
Nice 👏
Thank you Finn!
Very cool! :-)
Thank you Mauro! Fog will definitely add some great ambiance to renders. :) I hope it was helpful!

ai fog just cuts my project in half with a huge white square
Very common. I go over how to fix that around 6:45 I hope that helps!
