It's amazing that you are spending time on these tutorials Arvid. You do a really great job of explaining everything in depth with great clarity. I'm getting into VR alot and was thinking if you have any tips on rendering for VR and/or if you do stuff like this at your workplace. Mono and stereo are both of interest. Thanks again! You're awesome.
We currently don't do VR stuff at work, we are mostly concentrating on delivering full features without VR (yet). But when I have more information I will let you know
thanks for the Tutorial Sir... i am having a problem.... i put the god rays in my Living room model and when i use the aiNoise for that particle style effect all of the noise is visible on the wall i donno how to remove it please help
Hey thank you for the tutorial! I have a question, When i put an object in front of my environment light, it doesn't create a volumetric shadow ('cast volumetric shadows' is checked in the settings of the light) I don't understand why it does't generate a volumetric shadow, perhaps it's because my light is too large (larger than the object) and the lightparticles sort of surround the obhect to a point you won't be able to distinguish a volumetric shadow anymore? Anywho, would you know why it doesn't generate a volumetric shadow and if not, would you know a way to cheat one?
Hi Arvid, i made God rays as you described and it is working good in render but when i save that render from maya i cant see the dust and rays. What should I do?
Great tutorial man! Thanks for sharing!! Do you know if it is possible to asign this scattering to just one light??? like excluding the other lights in scene? Thanks again!!
Hey Arvid, I hope you can help me. when I try to batch render a volumetic light I can only see the volumetic when I render as an jpeg...I need to render as exr, but when I do the lights wont render. Is this an arnold version problem? I cant seem to find any info on this topic on the net. thanks
Arvid Schneider hey, thanks for the reply. It turns out that if you render out as an exr you need to interpret the files in after effects to ignore alpha. Then everything works like it should....so it seems that the volumetric are stored in the alpha channel...or something like that...I don't really understand why it works the why it works
@@jacoblignaut9157 OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH JACO !!!! i am so happy I was having this issue for about a day now and even wen to the arnold site but could find no answer (well the answer was there just a way different solution that did not work for) but thank you so much for your response.
Hi Arvid, Awesome Tutorial I have a question. Can i render the volumetric light as a seperate layer ? it doesn't show in the alpha channel and i need as a seperate pass in compositing so is it possible ?
yeah sure. create a new layer "atmoshperics" (or what ever). Do a material override on all shaders (aiFlat set to black constant, or black surfaceShader). And render that. Then you can easily plus it over in comp.
Hi Arvid, I have a problem When I take a default maya spot light I'm not getting the same result with the render which u get in the beginning of the video. Do we need to change any settings??? Just let me know
Great tutorial. I'm learning Arnold for Maya 2017 so this helped a lot. I am working on a personal project for an outdoor environment. I would like to accomplish God Rays going through trees. Can the Physical Sky and Skydome shader do this? Thanks in advance.
Amazing Tutorial! I can't believe how fast Arnold renders Volume Scattering. Very unusual for a Path Tracer.
Beautiful tutorials.i don't know what I'd do without them. Please keep them coming.
You always got great tutorials, learned a lot from you! Thanks for taking the time to make them. ❤
Your tutorials are simply THE BEST!
Thank you SO MUCH!
thank you very Arvid. You made my day..i was setting the stage light ..and getting difficulties.. this tutorial helped me a lot..
You are my saving grace
Great to see here again Arvid :)
Danke Manni :)
thank you! I never would've guessed god rays were this easy

Okay, thank you for replying!
great tot MaN, detailing all feature and using different effects. Big Thumb
Really fantastic tutorials man! Keep them coming :) a Arnold volume shader tutorial would be great ;)
amazing tutorial, simple and lots of information, thank you champ :)
You are a hero, thanks for this tutorial :)
Hey. Really enjoying this series! Would love some more about hypershade utilities and procedural texturing
great use of the gobo. they can be animated as well, great way to get some FX
Yeah you can very interesting results. Especially for underwater stuff
Avrid is now the Arnold Guy to go to .Thank you for your tutorials , i wish u could add ure pc specs , and render time info .
this tutorial saved my life T_T thank you so much
All your videos are so damn good, thanks!
is emission materials works with atmosphere volume?
Greaaaaaaaaaat!! Thank you!
Nice chair!
Amazing! Thumbs up for sure!
excellent vid! wow...better than any paysite...big thumb up :D
thank you
Love you my dude
Is there a way to get this to work with refractive materials?
Thanks!

volume scattering missing?? anybody know why i cannot have this option on render settings?
i think its been replaced with aishadervolumetric or something
Why does this only work with regulær light sources and not Arnold ones?

Awesome, but can't use aiVolumeScattering and lightGroup AOV! any solution?
Hey ! I can't see the light in my Arnold render view, can you help me please ?
Join the CG Lounge and post the question there
how to change arnold bucket size
Hi Arvid, i made God rays as you described and it is working good in render but when i save that render from maya i cant see the dust and rays. What should I do?
i am using student version of maya 2019......volume scattering is not there in my maya environment.... pls help...
I had the same issue, Im using aiAtmosphereVolume instead. Its in the same drop down box as the one the guy in the video said to go to
Great tutorial man! Thanks for sharing!! Do you know if it is possible to asign this scattering to just one light??? like excluding the other lights in scene? Thanks again!!
Yes, each light has its own scatter contribution slider. Just disable it on all the lights you don’t want to contribute.
Where we get gobo ??
Google most of the time
Plz create video for hdri Lighting for interior scene.
What would one have to do to stop the light after a specific distance? Trying to make a hologram projector of sorts and...im derping lol
if you are using a spotlight add a decay filter to the light. then you can control the decay amount with a distance value

strange behaviour. you got a solution? Try the lightshader slack channel.

I barely see the individual beams
Hi Arvid, I have a problem
When I take a default maya spot light
I'm not getting the same result with the render which u get in the beginning of the video. Do we need to change any settings??? Just let me know
i think u need to use an arnold spotlight
What if I use 2 or 3 lights and want the rays only from one Sir?
You can turn off "Affect Volumetrics" in the Arnold options for the lights that you don't want to interact with the fog.
each light has individual volume multiplier
It's called Volumetric lighting ;)
I can tell there is not a single dislike which tells something right?
