    Amazing Tutorial! I can't believe how fast Arnold renders Volume Scattering. Very unusual for a Path Tracer.

    It's amazing that you are spending time on these tutorials Arvid. You do a really great job of explaining everything in depth with great clarity. I'm getting into VR alot and was thinking if you have any tips on rendering for VR and/or if you do stuff like this at your workplace. Mono and stereo are both of interest. Thanks again! You're awesome.

    Hey thank you for the tutorial! I have a question,
    When i put an object in front of my environment light, it doesn't create a volumetric shadow ('cast volumetric shadows' is checked in the settings of the light) I don't understand why it does't generate a volumetric shadow, perhaps it's because my light is too large (larger than the object) and the lightparticles sort of surround the obhect to a point you won't be able to distinguish a volumetric shadow anymore?
    Anywho, would you know why it doesn't generate a volumetric shadow and if not, would you know a way to cheat one?

    Great tutorial man! Thanks for sharing!! Do you know if it is possible to asign this scattering to just one light??? like excluding the other lights in scene? Thanks again!!

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  7 лет назад

      Yes, each light has its own scatter contribution slider. Just disable it on all the lights you don’t want to contribute.

    What would one have to do to stop the light after a specific distance? Trying to make a hologram projector of sorts and...im derping lol

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  8 лет назад

      if you are using a spotlight add a decay filter to the light. then you can control the decay amount with a distance value

    Hey Arvid, I hope you can help me. when I try to batch render a volumetic light I can only see the volumetic when I render as an jpeg...I need to render as exr, but when I do the lights wont render. Is this an arnold version problem? I cant seem to find any info on this topic on the net. thanks

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  6 лет назад

      strange behaviour. you got a solution? Try the lightshader slack channel.

    • @jacoblignaut9157
      @jacoblignaut9157 6 лет назад

      Arvid Schneider hey, thanks for the reply. It turns out that if you render out as an exr you need to interpret the files in after effects to ignore alpha. Then everything works like it should....so it seems that the volumetric are stored in the alpha channel...or something like that...I don't really understand why it works the why it works

    • @fernando1186
      @fernando1186 5 лет назад

      @@jacoblignaut9157 OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH JACO !!!! i am so happy I was having this issue for about a day now and even wen to the arnold site but could find no answer (well the answer was there just a way different solution that did not work for) but thank you so much for your response.

    Hi Arvid, Awesome Tutorial
    I have a question. Can i render the volumetric light as a seperate layer ?
    it doesn't show in the alpha channel and i need as a seperate pass in compositing so is it possible ?

    • @arvidurs
      @arvidurs  7 лет назад +1

      yeah sure. create a new layer "atmoshperics" (or what ever). Do a material override on all shaders (aiFlat set to black constant, or black surfaceShader). And render that. Then you can easily plus it over in comp.

    • @3dsplanchnic737

      You can turn off "Affect Volumetrics" in the Arnold options for the lights that you don't want to interact with the fog.

    • @arvidurs

    Great tutorial. I'm learning Arnold for Maya 2017 so this helped a lot. I am working on a personal project for an outdoor environment. I would like to accomplish God Rays going through trees. Can the Physical Sky and Skydome shader do this? Thanks in advance.
