Ok, you've convinced me to start a Bronze membership. €5 a month is nothing but if we all do this, Blender will become the industry standard in no time!
I thought they got a portion of the blender market sales all this time. I thought that was how they made their money. Now I don't understand why it isn't?
Just as we’ve been outspoken about what we don’t like from big software corporations, we should also support efforts like Blender. Consider this: if Blender becomes increasingly profitable, it’s only a matter of time before other companies start paying attention to what we value. My donation is a way for me to advocate for what I want to see more of in the industry.
I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I had no idea Blender recieved such low yearly funding. Thanks to this program, I was able to quit my soul crushing job and focus on art. I'm barely getting by, but I'm so much happier now. Just signed up for a Bronze membership. Well worth it.
Proud Gold tier member for a bit over a year now. Funny to think how i would never ever give adobe a dime but i will gladly shill out money for Blender. The blender dev team just works so closely with the community and actually listens to it, which makes all the difference for me. Adobe on the other hand feels like an evil giant corporation overlord that dont care about us users at all...
Thank you for bringing awareness to donations 🧡 Not only for the software development itself but also the infrastructure around it, daily builds, testing, bug triaging, documentation, fighting the usual hack attacks to the servers, and so much more. It really is a huge project. Blender is at the heart but it is supported by a lot of people doing all kinds of work for so many years already.
I've been using the program since 2020 and I would categorize myself as a Hobbyist. Today I join team Bronze in the Blender Dev Fund! It's my favorite program on my computers and I deeply appreciate the work, the time, and love the team has put into program.
Absolutely more people can be supporting Blender financially. best money i ever spend is my monthly donation! and Definitely Play more that is the fun thing about Blender! Know the rules and break the rules!
Blender is fabulous ! I just hope it will ONE DAY become a standard in the industry because as a first year student in this field, i'm becoming more skilled at blender.
The fact that lack of financial resources can slow down the development of Blender is a potential reason why industries may hesitate. This is a good reminder for us to support the continued development. It is in our best interest.
This year's BCON was great as always! But yeah, I hope that they'll find ways to raise more awareness about the importance of donations... Let's hope they'll anounce even better numbers next year!
Thank you for bringing this to light, I'd never really thought about it before. I'm going to get a bronze membership, I use blender everyday and I think its important to contribute to it's future! :)
You convinced me too, I'll start a membership right away! Thanks for spreading the message! It's so easy to forget how many amazing people are behind this amazing software, we need to make sure they can keep developing it! edit: Spelling
"Please consider donating to Blender if you can. I'm also about to release an addon that I think you'll find useful. Once it's approved, I'll donate most of the profits to Blender if it does well. Thanks for your support!".
I dont have the funds to do this today but youve definitely given me ALOT to thnk about. Blender brought me out of a creative funk. I have to support them any way i can!
I was subscribed to Blender subscription for some time, even tho i wasn't using it professionally, and didn't had much time ot use it. I lost my job recently and i am trying to go the other way, the freelance now. So once i secure my bills i will definitely subscribe back. disappearance of the tool, like blender would be huge loss for the industry and for humanity. I really hate paying monopolies like Adobe, so being able to pay Blender on my own decision was something that actually brought me a joy. I hope that more people will see the value of freedom that Blender gives.
ok you convinced me, now I'm a gold member, don't want to see blender to slow down or worth. Could you lower the music behind in your future videos as it sounds too loud to me and get issue to fully understand you ? thanks and keep it up !
Alright man you made me do it. I only pledged for 5$ a month, but if more people have a similar mindset, the numbers will eventually (and hopefully) add up! I almost feel bad that I use blender so much and it's completely free
I think that if the minimum monthly donation is one dollar, maybe the collected funds would be much higher. Let's not forget that in many countries 5 dollars is the value of a utility bill. I don't know the company policy but add-on sellers and developers should pay a fairly large percentage of sales
Next month will be my one-year aniversary Gold membership ! Its nothing compared to what other softwares (Maya, Zbrush, Substance) would cost me... and, as a bonus, Blender is not stealing my art to train its AI !
I've downloaded Blender a few times this year too, just to see when I can finally leave that disgusting 3ds Max behind. Unfortunately, there still isn't a good way to convert assets on your own without a lot of hassle. Too bad-maybe someday with USD.
Minor but important correction that "Flow" is not a short film, but a full-blown feature film! It has made a lot of buzz in the film festivals circuit, and it's starting to get wide releases in theaters. Variety even predicts that it will get nominated at the 2025 Oscars for Best Animated Feature. Imagine that, a fully made in Blender film finally at the Oscars.
I haven’t really been using blender as of late due to both being quite busy with my second year of community college on top of my shift of focus to 2D art in the hopes of improving my blender workflow (since for some reason nearly all the tutorials I keep finding on character modeling requires you to know how to draw?? Beginner struggles fr…). On top of all that, my income is pretty inconsistent currently. I’ll see if I can make a one time donation this week at the very least, but I hope to potentially donate more regularly. Blender for me is more so a hobby at this time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it became a part of my career (despite my main focus in college being foreign language linguistics)
Unfortunately I do not earn at the moment. But I have decided after the release of project gold shader. I am going to start donating to blender every month, as soon as I start earning.
Concerning the funds. Chexk out the numbers pre 2.8!!! Thats way and way lower. I believe it was around 70-90k € back then. Pablo doing his weekly shows and peomoting did a HUGE favor to to blender
Yes, interface was a bit of a wall first time I tried to learn blender, and the second a many more afterward, but also for a long time what I had was mac computers and it was worst when trying to follow tutorials all of that for more than a decade you know putting the effort on hold because day to day routine takes a lot and then since the last year I have had more time and not that much pressure from other stuff and having a proper PC is when am finally getting to create stuff and learning, maybe am persistent maybe stubborn but I wish I can start making money by using Blender and I wouldn't think it twice on donating or even if by other means my economy does improve.
I think the problem with Blender donation is, at least for me, the 5 euro minimum which is half of my 3rd world daily salary. To put that into perspective 5 euro is what it'd cost if I eat out 3 times a day which I don't. Having said that, you've convinced me to do it and I just donated 5usd. USD because it's a little cheaper than euro. 😅 I'll do my best to donate as often as possible.
I would gladly allocate a small amount, but unfortunately, I cannot manage it financially even as a one-time contribution at this moment. I love Blender and have been enjoying it since I started my career as a 3D graphic designer in my country, after finishing my graphic design studies. However, I am currently struggling to make ends meet. I have been looking for work in my field for over a year and am slowly losing faith in what I'm doing. That's why I started a RUclips channel focused on short tips and advice on Blender, trying to function by doing something I enjoy while fighting every day for survival. Juniors are currently facing a huge challenge in finding anything at minimum wage, at least in Poland, or maybe I'm just too weak to be a 3D artist. ^^ Best regards to everyone, and I will definitely contribute a sum in the future when I can finally afford it!
I wished they ised easier i out for the N and K values for that new new metal bsdf. Those vakues are easier to find vs those 3 list values they use. There are website with N and K valuew, but they use a dofferent input. This method makes it much harder to find the numbers. I know one website which has these numbers, but its limited on what materials it has
I wish I can get comfortable with using Blender. The things I see it can do it so great... but then I get overwhelmed and just sink back the comfort of Cinema4D. For me it is the UI... it's just so daunting and things work just a little bit different that things that are second nature in one is so foreign in the other. Maybe if I didn't have the safety net of going to another program I'd keep pushing myself. But who knows, maybe one day I'll jump back in and things will just click like when I first started learning 3D.
What infind strange, is that how can they loose money on the bacon event. Just make the tickets more expensive. People still come. It always sold out. Ps those number for venue + catering are bizarre high if you ask me. Also the recording. But that ofcourse lots of work.
They could get lower pricing by changing venue and dropping the free food and all day drinks. I also guess adding vegan food makes the price go up. We all know if you ask a catering for food, it costs money.
Please consider that in Blender's economical model, what you give (money) is immediately invested in search and development for the improvement of the "product" so each time you download please give 1 € or dollar, or more. if you don't trust in that state of mind, maybe one day there will be a company that will charge parents 1000 $ for their unborn child to have full functionnal hands... Who knows... Blender is Freedom if you buy them (and us, and you) a coffee and then... "Who knows God could be a Black Woman" (Jim Brindwell RIP). Peace

They should just add a donate button to a popup that is shown when opening the app. Also the minimum donation is 5$, why not make that lower? Even getting just 2 or 1$ is better than nothing?
Blendermarket allows you to give away a portion of your profits yeah. This totals to around $160.000 a year currently I believe. But thats included in the 3.2 mil usd total for 2024
For the image textures. Ive been using an addon aince 2.78nand have added some frsrires to it. This makes it possible to oick texutres using thumbnails. They are nit as big as shown here. But it is way easier than what it was. It also has a feat8re when you double click the inage textire node in the shader editor, it shows the correct inage in the uv esitor. Also when you chnage the inage in the uv esitor, tou can the. Send it back to the node editor. So you dont to use that horible kist selection method. Its a free addon. Let me know who likes to try. Ill add my girhub link here
To be Honest what blender packs, it should not be free. Atleast it should be following a program just like Da Vinci Resolve, free to use but all enticing features for a one time paid Studio version.
I love the fact its open source. Its why so many people are committed to it in terms of development and adding features etc. I could see some merit in maybe doing a ‘latest version cost $10 one time with lifetime updates’ or you can download older versions for free. Bit the way Blender is built (legally) it just simply doesn’t allow to be sold. Which is great and unique for a software a good as Blender 🧡
@KaizenTutorials I am a newer user and have started blender very recently. I heard it from PonySmasher channel a few years back and day by day it grew on me. I bought a computer just to learn Da Vinci resolve and blender. I honestly know that "Donate" word itself turns off people's thinking, only if it were paid, people would just gladly do it. Heck more people buy individual channel cources for blender than donations itself. If blender cannot get payment then to support it, they must sell some Official Courses and put videos on youtube to generate Some funds. I definitely think they need someone who can advise them financially. "People are not going to DONATE" that's a fact. Thanks for your videos though. I love them.
Folks show stop about GUI issies. There is no gooden gui for a 3d apo. Every app has its pros and cons. The amount of users is so vast and they all have different knowledge of using a computer, using 3d, understanding ux and what not. This is a never ending story
His remarks about a more feedback is all nice and dandy. But this means, blender needs to be checking eve5innthe background. You know how taxing this is onnthe hardware. Wonder if they thought about that. Blenders GUI has gotten majored upgrades and is vastly more responsive then it ever was. Don't bog down with these tons of checkers. Perhaps for a new users, okay that's fine. But this all will come at a cost. I frankly never seen a 3d app do this
I hope I can donate Blender, but I'm broke man! Like, a single 1 dollar, it's 15 thousands rupiah on my country Indonesia. And donating $100, it will be RP 1,585,000... Once again, I'm broke.

Wonder if they thought about that. Blenders GUI has gotten majored upgrades and is vastly more responsive then it ever was. Don't bog down with these tons of checkers. Perhaps for a new users, okay that's fine. But this all will come at a cost. I frankly never seen a 3d app do this
Flow is a feature film.
Did I say short film? 😅 but yeah I did know that and thats what so cool about it!
10000 Individual donations are not a lot compared to the user base. Hopefully Tiki provides some funds for them.
Absolutely not no and yes let’s hope Tiki does that indeed! 🙏🏻
I hope I can donate Blender, but I'm broke man! Like, a single 1 dollar, it's 15 thousands rupiah on my country Indonesia. And donating $100, it will be RP 1,585,000... Once again, I'm broke.
yeah. That's open source for you.
If you profit from using Blender, do donate.
If you support FOSS, do donate.
I really dont get it why this will be no industry standard
Same!
if you make money with free software and that software is really help you, please donate to them
Donate what you can, you bums! 🎉
For once I do agree with Andrew "I miss being able to say slurs" Price. There is a steep curve for learning the UI.
