    Crazy to think Fortiche started with 5 people. I can't imagine the stress of the initial team. I'm sure this was a hugely collaborative effort from Riot to help Fortiche scale along with the show. Goes to show that if you bring something unique as a small studio you can actually make companies like Riot ignore other larger and more established studios.

    • @Saimiri1334
      @Saimiri1334 3 месяца назад +241

      I think it’s just outstanding, Riot managed to find this studio and recognize their talent. Goes to show that Riot leadership hasn’t lost their edge at all and knows exactly what players/viewers want. This gives me such a big confidence boost for everything that’s coming from Riot in the next decade.

      @@Saimiri1334To be fair, it was Christian Linke (showrunner of Arcane) who found Fortiche and started working with them. And when he first came to Riot's leadership with the idea of making the show, they were opposed to it (which is understandable, considering "videogames adaptations curse"). But with time Christian was able to persuade them, using Fortiche's insane talent.

    • @genshian
      @genshian 3 месяца назад +9

      @@klulikxd Not really, I quite disagree that this happens often. Fortiche's 3D choice alone segregated them to have to probably create their own internal toolings and pipelines. Usually, you'd be at least able to scale another outsourced entity or have some additional resources from other studios. In anime, outsourcing some parts of 2d is very well established. Fortiche probably needed to scale resourcing internally to stick to the stylistic vision.

They did those K/DA videos to give the extra team members, that were promised a certain amount of work, a reason to stay with the company until Arcane was ready to go back into production.

    This gives me hope that studios out there will continue to be authentic and real instead of using Ai. I really want to be an animator one day. I'm so happy to see this

    • @SiMeGamer
      @SiMeGamer 2 месяца назад +26

      AI is extremely limited if you want to make truly substantive art. If anything AI will be a shortcut to cut on time and add more art jobs rather than taking them.
      I work in 2.5D animation and me and the studio I work for use AI in 4 different steps of our production but we have an artist ensure every step is done well and we do a ton of fixing. This results in much faster iteration and room for error because less time is spent on perfecting the initial takes and thus gives us room to redo which in traditional animation is unbelievably expensive.
      People who think AI is terrible see it as a person rather than a tool. We need more artists than before for our work because we put more effort into our work because AI gives us this option. If you are good at what you do, you'll find a job. AI will not replace you except for very cheap, soulless productions. Arcane cannot be done with AI and likely never will because it's too human and there is too much intention behind every miniscule phase of production.
      Good luck out there!

    • @Mira-n3z6q
      @Mira-n3z6q 2 месяца назад +2

      May I ask how AI is used in the production pipeline? I'm very interested in using it myself

    • @SiMeGamer
      @SiMeGamer 2 месяца назад

      @Mira-n3z6q
      3D model for posing (manual - just gray)
      Skeletal wire (AI with a manual adjustment)
      Line art from the wire (AI with a manual adjustment)
      Base colouring from the line art (AI with manual adjustment)
      Full details (part AI with manual adjustment, part manual)
      Cutting and redrawing (fully manual - tiny redrawings with AI depending on what is meeded)
      Rigging (fully manual)
      Animating (fully manual)
      We can do all of this manually. But the time it takes compared to this method is not even close. This is why artists are still mandatory. AI does not have an artistic vision. It makes obvious and not obvious mistakes. Many things it can't do at all. But it still produces a very consistent result, especially if trained on specific type of data which is the most important thing - consistency is where humans falter the most and it adds a ton of extra time to not fumble the end product.
      I don't see a moral argument against the use of AI. You don't own the look of an image. As an artist you own the image itself. I cannot publish it or something too close to it and call it my own. Copyright still protects it all by default (you don't need to file it like a patent). But just like any human, I can look at it and reference it in my work. AI is simply faster at doing that and can scale the process to a level humans can't. And like I said, if you want something truly worth anyone's time, it still requires a lot of human work. AI slop exists. And it sucks. But that's because those people who use it in a pure content machine type of way see it as a replacement and not as a tool. AI is 100% a tool. It can't replace humans. It cannot be novel in that sense. The only new thing it can do is artifact art which is really trippy and cool and almost entirely useless since it is not very reproducible. It's really fun to see when it fks up in such interesting ways. But artists will forever be needed for anyone who wants their work to be good. Be it a marketing agency or an art studio. With a big enough body of work, you could train your own AI with your internal art team that will only produce things well in your style and then only need fixes which will save even more time.
      Technology exists. Knowledge exists. You either use it, improve and go forward, or you can be stuck behind and complain. Our studio did everything manually for years. Now we use AI as one of our many, many, many tools. If we lose access to AI, we can still do our jobs. It will simply be slower.

    • @professor-worthington
      @professor-worthington 27 дней назад

      @@SiMeGamer These publicly available AI's seem limited because there purpose is to gather training data that is free from copyright, all that gets funneled to private AI models that are purpose made. Like how pokemon go player data is training AI map models. Avatar way of the water makes heavy use of AI, as do a bunch of movies and tv shows even love, death, robots.

    It's unbelievably smart how they almost perfectly mimicked the real life acting and put it in animation in 3D and 2D. That's insanely impressive. I also can't believe that this was keyframed, that alone must've taken months, but I get it because the body of the actor doesn't always match the proportions of the animated character which means that it wouldn't look smooth if they just motion captured it, but I could tell that those keyframes were made with tender love and care as if it was a newborn baby.

    Just to correct 3d Animation is 24 frames per second and as for 2d effects it's usually 12 frames per second, but very often with smoke that spreads slowly it's a combination of 6 frames per seconds and 12 frames per second (animated on 2s and animated on 4s).
    With Exceptions of beginnings of explosions that are animated on 1s (every frame) to get that burst and fast effect

    Although the focus of this video is about the look the animation, the characters and their development throughout the series if perfect, too. Even Silco doesn't seem to be only evil, all Characters seem to have their own motivation and a more or less complex background story. Love all about this series.

    Fascinating subject and very well done video. It kinda inspires and depresses me at the same time not gonna lie. It is really a shame that realizing a product such as this is completely out of the scope of independent workers, i'm talking about the amount of money and workforce it requires mostly. If only there were tools and workflows that could make a small team without millions of dollards compete in such an industry.

    Half the reason I initially got so pulled into the show was by how realistically the characters moved and their gestures when talking. Then the character development literally blew me away with how in depth each and every person is. The only show I can think of that made me care about its characters that much was Game of Thrones (mainly pre-season 5). It’s so rare for new shows to be this great that I like can’t help myself but appreciate every ounce of detail they poured into this.
    The complexity of the show comes directly from it’s simplicity. Each character has a set baseline personality which then learns and adapts to the world around them. This writing alongside Powder becoming Jinx from just 1 avoidable accident had me wondering what would have happened if she never went, then I got to season 2 episode 7…
    So yah. 2/10 - Made me reinstall League and care about its Lore.

    8:05 what software is this?

  • @mastjappa
    @mastjappa 2 месяца назад +1

    Software is merely a tool. The focus here is on the skill and creativity of the artists, where the specific software becomes irrelevant. Companies like Autodesk are driven by profit, not by a commitment to artists or their craft. When discussing skill in this context, it’s essential to center the conversation on the artists themselves and their work, rather than the tools they use.
