Kiss was never a band based around the drums, so I'd say Peter is doing exactly what he is supposed to, and he does it well. He is the drummer of Kiss, and he always will be.
Fans can say what they want, but Peter and Ace can do no wrong in my eyes!.. They're my favorite members of Kiss and the band would have Never have found success without them!.
they did Ace's solo album was far higher than genes, paul and peter's combined and hes the more well known member to have a good solo career as for Peter he kinda feels to me like Eric Tagg in a way hes semi obscure but his well known song is You matter to me and thats it(i m talking solo songs and albums)@@Julcisko
Awesome video! Peter Criss is the reason I'm a drummer today. I'm so sick and tired of seeing concert footage of nothing but guitar.....I could watch his 'drum cam' non-stop. He still has great form!
LOVE THOSE Up close CAMS...Peter was a very hard worker..He has his own style which is just fine. Its good that there is so much variation with drummers ..and guitarists.
Love Peter Criss. My two favorite bands are KISS and Rush; they could not be more different musically, but I love each for what they do. Life wouldn't be the same without them!
Peter Criss is in his 50's here, he is no longer a young man, he is playing his style rightfully, he is a founding member and created these songs. Nothing is good enough for Paul Stanley, his book is pathetic desperation to justify Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer wearing icons make up and impersonating, it is disgraceful, they should have packed it in after farewell tour!
the fact that Peter was in his 50's and no longer a young man tells you how pathetic his behavior was during the reunion tour. instead of being grateful, a professional and on his best behavior, Peter was up to his old tricks and tarnished the reunion tour with his behavior. Peter has only himself to blame. he left Kiss in 1980 for his own reasons.
I was at this show with my newly wedded wife it was the best show we've ever seen!!! Thank you to all the original members for an epic night of music and showmanship I'd definitely pay to see it again!
Kiss will always be Peter, Paul, Gene and Ace. I begin to listning to Kiss In 1977 and I colect all their Lp. I se them live 4 times 2 of the times With the orginal Kiss With make up. Paul have exstreamly good voice and he Write song. You can say Paul is Kiss. On their solo album it was one Kiss album and it was Paul,s solo album and It was great. I love Kiss and will always do. One of the best band ever. You want the best? You got the best. The hottest band In the world?. KISS!!!!!!
WOW! Peter's drumming was sharp & smooth. By this time he was off of drugs, was eating right/healthy, and he'd been practice his rudiments on the drum pad. May god bless the Catman.
Ace rules, if your a Peter fan DO NOT read Pauls book...loved this video and in a funny way I can't see the problems Paul details in his very popular book
leokimvideo I glanced through part of Paul's Book, and just happened to catch a part where he slams Eric Carr. Dont remember exactly the wording but it sure wasn't nice.
+john Magill Pauls book is very good, but my heart is with Ace's and Peter's books that reveal a side to Kiss that Paul and Gene can't explain. Paul slams Peter as having forgotten how to put on his cat face makeup. I gotta laugh because Pauls makeup is very simple compared to the rest of the band. Both Gene and Paul would be very tough bosses.
Some folks just need to lighten up! I could name SEVERAL Great drummers. However not all can be Bonzo or Buddy Rich. Yet Peter was a quarter of KISS. He helped form the group, did his job, and went about his way. It is merely chemistry. I'm a professional drummer myself. 35 years already! And STILL learning! However, this last run.. (Band) is in its 16th year! So...Do we argue? A little. Are we the best? By far. Yet we have the chemistry and passion. It's all for the love of music. Thanks to them all. United they made it happen! Sparks flew! KISS was a huge name as I was coming up.. Peace:)
The Best Ever! Peter Criss!!! He is the best singer in the band or to ever be in the band!!! Fantastic Singer and the best singer, just ask Gene!!!!!!!
Peter Criss is the most important element to make KISS sounds like KISS. technically he has never been a great drummer, but his style og playing fits 70's KISS perfect.
Peter and Ace worked really hard for the reunion tour in 1996. I saw them on that tour at the St. Paul Civic Center one of the last shows before they tore it down. They sounded fresh and tight. I myself was rejuvenated and It felt like I was in 7th grade all over again.
looks like peter hasn't miss'd a step at all. he still looks just as good as he did back in the early days of the band. keep on rocking peter you look great
Not a huge Peter fan HOWEVER, he is a founding member and his style helped make KISS. Also, he is super in time here. The dude was in his 50's here I believe. If anything the guitars sounded out of time slightly.
What's with all the hating. He's 50+ playing hard rock for a couple of hours a night on a lengthy tour and saving his joints. His meter here is much better than the old stuff too...disciplined. Just because he isn't flailing around doesn't mean he's not good.
Peter is an awesome drummer. He plays his style, not Lars or Neil...They do their thing which is great, and Peter does his thing which is great. What's up with the competitiveness on here? If they were all the same, then it would suck.
True about the book, but the sensors were only for the drum solos. Also, on a night where his hands and arms didn't hurt, he'd hit the skins fine. No one was in their prime during the reunion, not even Paul.
Absolutely. When I saw them on the Farewell Tour, they were all fantastic. Peter was approximately 53 years old at the time and he rocked! The sensors referred to are called triggers manufactured by Ddrum, and he used them, yes, but, Eric also uses them as well as most stadium drummers.
Wow, I actually didn't know about Eric using the triggers, too. Nonetheless, Peter will go down as one of the best drummers in history, even though he didn't nearly have the best skills. Although he did probably have the best personality among drummers!
If you wanna see Peter Criss at his best, or at least around the time when he still had it, check out "peter criss drum solo 1976" instead. Catman playing Pearl drums and Paiste 2oo2 cymbals with loads of flanger effects and whatever it is. Sounds great. Looks great. Makes me happy! :-)
Peter is using Triggers, he says so in his own book and on his web site... He hits very softly, no way could he be sounding this loud without using triggers.
im a drummer and a huge kiss fan. peter will never be confused for a powerhouse guy like Bonham or a technical guy like Peart, but hell man hes not a horrible drummer like i said im a huge kiss fan but i dont say hes a huge influence on my playing or anything, fuck it hes peter criss he was in kiss in their prime and was killing every night just like the other 3 members, hes done everything all of us as musicians would live to do, he very well may be just some schlub that got lucky but hey how people on here are known by name worldwide. fuck it man just kick back and enjoy it if you like it and if you dont thats fine to.
Dammit, Peter. You made history with Kiss and all but what Paul said in his book about his playing having deteriorated in the last years is totally true... Like, seriously, the cymbals are barely moving.
funny thing about drummers - when they are young, they hit the drums like a caveman trying to bring down a Wooly Mammoth. As they get older, they learn that they don't have to be cavemen to deliver the same force from the stick to the drum; a flick of the wrist is all it takes. It's called "technique". Some drummers, like Ian Paice and Mitch Mitchell, for example, always had such phenomenal stick control that they never had to jump 6 feet in the air first to deliver a brutal drum fill. Look at most of the drum legends; even John Bonham had stick technique that would be dismissed as "wussy" or "sissy" because he wasn't flailing about like a deranged ape. Good drummers focus their energy on the task at hand - hacks flail about with dubious "showmanship" value. The *only* exception to that rule that I can think of was and will always will be Keith Moon. He defied logic and made magic.
All the drummers you named are amazing. Don't forget about Ginger Baker and Neil Peart.Especially Neal. Every time he plays the drums he seems like a scientist that's focused on his experiment. No funny faces, no screaming while drumming... pure focus and beautiful drum fills.
I love Ginger Baker - grumpy bastard though he is; and Neil Peart is also a school of method all his own. Considering all the meter changes Rush does in the frame of a song, Neil doesn't have time to act like an ape, even if he wanted to. He's got to be on top of his game.
Patrick Milliken There's something called live show too though. Drummers who sit still like they're fucken bored is obviously boring to watch. It's a lot funnier to watch drummers going crazyy
Ah, so he's chewing gum while playing. I saw the Midnight Special video of Kiss and couldn't figure out what he was moving his mouth for. I thought it was like when guitar players sometimes move their mouths with their playing, but Kris's mouth was sometime in rhythm and sometimes not. Looked weird to me. Now I get it - chewing gum.
Anyone who says he's bad here is either a Paul fanboy or simply has no sense of time. Bashing drums does not equal good, no matter what anyone tells you. Dynamics in certain parts of a song yes, but good drumming is all about being consistent, not trying to break your instrument with every bar you play.
...besides i dont know why NO ONE can get over the fact that peter and eric are two different people, two different styles, and different eras of KISS... get over it kids
I don't understand why certain people have such a hate boner for Peter. They make him sound like he's the drummer for The Shags and he's playing My Pal Foot Foot.
@Pingu Wetone were you at the show... cuz I know many people that were at this tour and said it kicked ass. Are you a rockstar living the dream like peter criss... apparently not

@ NICOLEALANIZ2005... If your going to talk trash about someone, then you really need to know who your talking about. Peter Criss is not a alcoholic, his addictions and demons have always been drugs and he is a recovered addict who has inspired millions and millions of musicians to become more than just some JOE on the drumset. And as far as Neil Peart... The man is a accomplished drummer. If you put them in a room together they could out do each other. He's playing simple rock that KISS wrote.
Peter is like Ringo Starr. Both play lightly. Peter NEVER played hard in his whole career. Neither did Ringo. It was all about "Swing" music for both of them.....they just happened to be in groups that decided that it was the right fit for what they were doing. Paul and Gene were all about the Beatles, so it stands to reason why they hired Peter based on his playing in the early days.
There is a teacher in Nashville that he learned from in the 90's on how to play conservative. Less arm movements and purposely relaxed. He did this to battle his tarpel syndrome, arthritis and yes, age too. Watch Ringo, Watts, and Henley play. They do the same thing.
non v inganni l apparente immobilita'....non sbaglia 1 colpo, ritmica eccelsa,e solita potenza da cat-man.....personaggio stupendo e bravissimo. il mio preferito!!!!
In my opinion, one of the best drummers of that era. I don't he was trained to be a rock drummer, more of a jazz guy , I think. Regardless, he's doing his job.
67foxcharlie Peter said that in the early years the drugs did effect his ability. That is in his book. Eric Carr and Eric Singer have more ability. It's clear when you compare them.
67foxcharlie Peter's a talented guy, maybe not in the league of some, but still - I don't think he got the kind of support he needed to develop - which is a shame. For instance, when he's firing on all cylinders, his voice is in the same league as Paul's. And Paul ( when he's good ) is lucky enough to have one of the best voices in rock - to have two killer voices in a single rock band is like lightening striking twice in the same place, it could've been a much bigger feature of the band than it turned out to be.
@Michael Jackson so being the oldest of kiss and having cancer along with arthritis doesn't factor in you sir are uninformed and just a hater also he was never really a hard hitter of the drums but had better rythem and flow the singer the true cat man
Yes that KISS wrote and Peter is playing SIMPLE drum patterns because that's all he knows how to play. There is no way on earth that Peter could ever out do Neil.
Kiss was never a band based around the drums, so I'd say Peter is doing exactly what he is supposed to, and he does it well. He is the drummer of Kiss, and he always will be.
+JornO agree!!!!
Sure but at least stay in time
i didn't hear anything horrible during deuce, he kept time and did the cymbals and cowbell etc that he does in the right places
JORN NORD KISS was a band based very much around the drums in the 70’s
I noticed that the tempo went up a bit too.

67foxcharlie He's a bit off in some of the tom fills on the Deuce, but that's not really noticeable to the crowd
He looks great! and lets not forget its live music people!!
