A bit of trivia: Star Trek: First Contact is the only Star Trek movie or TV episode where a character actually says the term "star trek". Zephram Cochrane is the one who said it.
According to the audio commentary for _First Contact,_ it had been a secret desire of Brannon Braga and Ronald Moore to have a[ny] character say "star trek" during _TNG,_ but they were unable to justify it. (Similarly, the line Lily Sloan says about "'Borg'-? Sound Sweedish...") It wasn't until _First Contact_ where they got their chance, because those two specific words put together in such a way is grammatically awkward in English.
My god, you´re right, I have very fond memories of going with my family to the premiere. Best Star Trek movie, the score, the story, everything about it was perfect.
The central slow section is definitely one of the best Star Trek theme ever composed : simple (melody and harmonic progression), fragile, nostalgic, powerful and majestic at the same time ! Goldsmith at its finest

Allow me a moment to explain why this is my favourite Trek movie. I think that, out of all the movies, all the shows, this one best represents the franchise as a whole. Look at the movie and examine it. It can be dark, it can be funny, it can be scary, it can be emotional and thought provoking, it can be thrilling and exciting. And that's why this is my favourite Trek movie - it encapsulates everything I love about Star Trek into one neat little package, serving as a microcosm of the franchise as a whole. And that's why I love First Contact!
Of course, that's why it's my favorite Trek movie as well. It's so robust and hearty, it contains every great quality you would want from an epic Star Trek movie.

Brought tears to my eyes when hearing this at the end of S3E1 of ST:PICARD. Saw this in cinema when it came out. 25 years ago. Damn, how time flies by...
It got me when the first episode started off and they pulled that little clip before they went into what Crusher was doing... at that point I knew we were in for something epic!!!
@@EdMorais-rh7ye You didn't even need to watch the first two seasons to get invested. It was it's own thing. From what I heard, most of the episodes from the two seasons were absolutely horrible from really bad writing and just being political.

They are selfish bigots who could learn from star trek. Season 2 was bad in everything else though, we can agree on that.
I remember hoping they’d use the TNG theme when I saw this in the theater. They didn’t use it in Generations at all. I thought, “NextGen hit a home run of a movie. They deserve their theme song.” Then this started and not only was it THEIR theme, but the best version of it ever recorded. :)
The Star Trek V end credits was the best version of the theme for me. I also liked the Klingon section which came from The Motion Picture score as well. They played it again briefly in this movie when Worf appears.
I believe this was recorded on thd MGM scoring stage, the enx credits cue of Star Trek V was recorded at Fox and sounds much better, more recently John Williams recorded all his sequel trilogy scores at MGM which doesn't have the same sound as Fox and Todd AO or Abbey Rd, Denham in London, when recording a large orchestral score the bigger the scoring stage the better, in LA only Fox has that kind of Concert Hall sound after Todd AO closed down.
My mother truly believed that a day will come when we travel the stars and go on such amazing adventures. Unfortunately she suffered Demetia and advanced Alzheimer's disease in the last two years of her life. She died in '97 after First Contact came out but never got to see it as she was too sick. I hope some day her vision comes true and we travel the stars as I am sure she does now.

I hope too that mankind someday courageously takes flight to the stars! The beautiful message of Star Trek is that we CAN put aside our petty differences and find the courage to all venture forth as one to explore our universe together... if we really want to bad enough! There will no stopping us!!
The day will come, mankind is a slow learning spices and at times we can be distracted by petty issues. But the human mind and spirit continues to grow. One day man will travel to the stars and boldly go where no man, where no one has gone before.
Jerry Goldsmith doing the score for First Contact really felt like it had come full-circle, from his original The Motion Picture theme being used as the theme for the Next Generation. I am so happy he stayed right up to Nemesis.
What I probably love most about this theme is that it was originally associated with the original series crew. I see it as truly a theme representing ALL of Star Trek-all that humanity, all that consciousness and sentience is capable of achieving.

Here's my interpretation of each movement of this piece of Star Trek music by Jerry Goldsmith: 1. 0:00-1:18. In the 23rd Century A.D., interstellar space travel is a bold and exciting reality--owing to the beloved starship Enterprise--producing unending benefits from the exchange of products and ideas with alien civilizations. 2. 1:19-1:40. However, life wasn't always like this. 3. 1:41-2:38. Think back to the dawn of the warp-engine era, after the devastation of World III, when all of humanity faced starvation, disease, and possible extinction. 4. 1:41-2:38. Nevertheless, a handful of poverty-stricken but courageous survivors labored at a former missile silo, to create history's first warp-capable engine, and free humanity to travel among the stars. 5. 2:39-3:10. We hear, "Six hundred million dead," in some of the melody's mournful notes--emphasizing that the warp-engine project was not guaranteed to succeed, and that humanity itself was not guaranteed to survive. 6. 3:11-4:10. But the first warp-engine test succeeds, attracting the notice of an alien survey-ship. The aliens land at the test-site and make First Contact, commencing a new era of peace and prosperity. 7. 4:11-4:38. Fast-forward to the future, where that early First Contact has led to the eradication of hunger, poverty, and war, all replaced by education, health, wealth, and incredible adventures. 8. 4:39-5:23. And note that humanity is not finished--greater endeavors, greater achievements, greater triumphs await us, because of our invincible intelligence, empathy, sensitivity, power, and courage.
A film as great as this needed a soundtrack to match it...and trust the late great Jerry Goldsmith to come up with the goods. One of his finest Star Trek scores.
I hope we get to see our own "First Contact" in this century before 2063, finally paving the way for Human Stellar Exploration and beyond using a fully equipped hyper drive starship. 😀

Say what you will about First Contact. That it is action schlock or doesnt fit the tone of the TNG show, but the last shot of the film with the Vulcans and Zephram Cochrane that pans up towards the stars always gives me chills.
Whoever says that is an idiot. First Contact is more than just action, it compares a post apocalyptic world to a utopian future, giving us hope that no matter what happens, the human race will live on, and make the world a better place along with it.
Megatron2013 technically, the theme from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” originated as the theme from “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” combined with Alexander Courage’s fanfare from the Original Series.
The greatest Star Trek show only managed to produce one good movie out of four, this one. Yet the other 3 films are still miles better than the crappy ones that have been produced recently, shows you how far the brand has devolved in the new millenium :(
Insurrection was pretty good too tbh, maybe it was more feature episode than movie plot wise but, still nice to see that with the higher production budget. Also, the brand hasnt devolved, its been Vandalised.
The new series is basically an action series based in space, with very loose connection to the true ideals of the Federation and utterly no respect for Gene Roddenberry's vision.

Without a doubt in my mind, the greatest theme and soundtrack from the greatest of all Star Trek movies. The music fits the comparison of Cap. Picard to Cap. Ahab, both seeking revenge for being hurt, despite the former claiming he is not seeking revenge, but trying to defeat the enemy. Also, that achieving warp speed would start a new era of peace and exploration.
The times the credits where short and compact because they didn’t need to include 10 different CGI studios. Trek today feels like ferengi took over the production.
Always liked this version of the theme - all the extra in between, how much more orchestrated First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis brings the TNG theme updated to sound!

The orchestrated version, taking out the extra I mentioned, kind of truly emphasizes/accentuates the series/franchise legacy the way it should be/was meant to be heard. The times TNG was made itself they likely just didn’t have the budget or maybe tech instruments to maybe enhance or capture it in completeness or whatever.
Seasons 3 and 5 of the TNG contain some of the best TV in history imo. The writing, storytelling and acting all came together like a great symphony in those two seasons. Lightning in a bottle.
Well...Insurrection and Nemesis wasted quite a lot of potential,but had actually rather good plots if you ask me,and even something rather new(expect Troy crashing the ENterprise into the nearest object)^^
Watching this movie because the new Star Trek series make me sick. The transition from Picard disobeying orders and the enterprise going to warp to the Borg cube and the Defiant and worf...THERE'S ANOTHER STAR SHIP COMING IN....IT'S THE ENTERPRISE!!!....The cheer from the crowd when watching it the first time...nothing beats it.
My first star trek movie i actively looked in a cinema. Every time i hear this wonderful piece of music, i feel like the 12 year old boy i was there, amazed by this absolutely outstanding soundtrack. Only the themes of star trek II or VI are nearly so genius composed and performed.
I can actually smell the movie theatre popcorn. Oh what a rush of nostalgia this piece of music brings. Captain John Luke Picard was a BOSS, and I miss DATA :****)

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier To be totally honest, all five of Jerry Goldsmith's music to the end credits of the five Star Trek movies are ranked #1 in my mind.
They should have some of the TNG writers come back and help finish the story. Send off the characters. All Ive wanted to know since Picard came back is what is up with his old crew.

"An explosive space adventure!" When cast member Jonathan Frakes directed this, No one expected it to be a big success! With "State of the art" special effects, Amazing strong performances, Receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup, And by reworking his classic theme into a more romantic and patriotic ballad, Jerry Goldsmith's score for "First Contact" might be the best thing he's ever done! And that's saying something! The goosebump inducing theme swells during all the best moments, and remains my favourite work from the late film composer! And, extra points to his son Joel Goldsmith who helped him create some new themes! This is Star Trek at it's best, a thrilling and rewatchable film all Trekkie fans need to see! 9.5/10
This is the Star Trek theme. To me, its just as recognizable and powerful as the Star Wars theme. You cant make a reboot like JJ Abrams and company tried to do without the Star Trek theme.
This is more than music, it's like an anthem of the generation. It reminds me of all those who have come and passed, and how the life is endless and beautiful.
been listening to the soundtracks of all the trek movies recently and I have somehow found a new appreciation of them due to this. It's been kind of like an epiphany but not. I just see them differently now. Loved them before love them even more now

His music was one of the few exceptional things in what was more or less great value Wrath of Khan.
I got to shake Goldsmith's hand backstage in Nov, 1983. A happy memory.

I think Insurrection is a close second, followed by TMP, Final Frontier and Nemesis. As far as Jerry Goldsmith’s contributions, at least.

Say what you will about First Contact. That it is action schlock or doesnt fit the tone of the TNG show, but the last shot of the film with the Vulcans and Zephram Cochrane that pans up towards the stars always gives me chills.
Whoever says that is an idiot. First Contact is more than just action, it compares a post apocalyptic world to a utopian future, giving us hope that no matter what happens, the human race will live on, and make the world a better place along with it.

I really hope that Jeff Russo incorporates this masterpiece into his score for the new Picard series.

I look at life as a journey, each day as an adventure/situation, exploring life, meeting other people, places. My own "Trek" through life.
The greatest Star Trek show only managed to produce one good movie out of four, this one. Yet the other 3 films are still miles better than the crappy ones that have been produced recently, shows you how far the brand has devolved in the new millenium :(
Insurrection was pretty good too tbh, maybe it was more feature episode than movie plot wise but, still nice to see that with the higher production budget.
Also, the brand hasnt devolved, its been Vandalised.
The new series is basically an action series based in space, with very loose connection to the true ideals of the Federation and utterly no respect for Gene Roddenberry's vision.

At the end of Picard Season 3 all things come together and this music matched perfect.

Without a doubt in my mind, the greatest theme and soundtrack from the greatest of all Star Trek movies. The music fits the comparison of Cap. Picard to Cap. Ahab, both seeking revenge for being hurt, despite the former claiming he is not seeking revenge, but trying to defeat the enemy. Also, that achieving warp speed would start a new era of peace and exploration.
Nonono. The whole point of Ahab is, he is unhinged. The whole essence of Picard is, he is trustworthily, bottom line, absolutely sane.
The times the credits where short and compact because they didn’t need to include 10 different CGI studios. Trek today feels like ferengi took over the production.
After SNW I really have to think about that again…
Always liked this version of the theme - all the extra in between, how much more orchestrated First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis brings the TNG theme updated to sound!
They didn't have quite a big enough orchestra for the tv theme. It always felt like it was lacking a bit.

The orchestrated version, taking out the extra I mentioned, kind of truly emphasizes/accentuates the series/franchise legacy the way it should be/was meant to be heard. The times TNG was made itself they likely just didn’t have the budget or maybe tech instruments to maybe enhance or capture it in completeness or whatever.
Picard Season 3 was the best season, and including this score certainly helped.
The best season of Picard. But not Star Trek or even TNG as a whole. There have been so many better seasons of Star Trek
Seasons 3 and 5 of the TNG contain some of the best TV in history imo. The writing, storytelling and acting all came together like a great symphony in those two seasons. Lightning in a bottle.
This Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack in my opinion is the crowning musical theme of the Star Trek franchise!!

Well...Insurrection and Nemesis wasted quite a lot of potential,but had actually rather good plots if you ask me,and even something rather new(expect Troy crashing the ENterprise into the nearest object)^^

Watching this movie because the new Star Trek series make me sick. The transition from Picard disobeying orders and the enterprise going to warp to the Borg cube and the Defiant and worf...THERE'S ANOTHER STAR SHIP COMING IN....IT'S THE ENTERPRISE!!!....The cheer from the crowd when watching it the first time...nothing beats it.
Would be nice to hear a reorganized version to match the scene of the Titan rescuing the Cerritos

My first star trek movie i actively looked in a cinema. Every time i hear this wonderful piece of music, i feel like the 12 year old boy i was there, amazed by this absolutely outstanding soundtrack. Only the themes of star trek II or VI are nearly so genius composed and performed.

This is the Star Trek theme. To me, its just as recognizable and powerful as the Star Wars theme. You cant make a reboot like JJ Abrams and company tried to do without the Star Trek theme.
