This is probably the best Trek concert. Outstanding musicians, a wonderful, passionate conductor=a moving performance, not just for Trek fans and soundtrack enthusiasts but for any music lover. Thank you for creating this wonderful experience.
I agree, especially when you consider that it's a live performance that has to stack up against the very polished studio soundtrack versions, which it actually does to a remarkable degree. Well done!!
bodie of ci5 After not hearing any OG Trek themes in the motion picture, im sure audiences had a blast hearing that opening in the theater for Wrath of Khan. It’s like “Yeah you’re boutta watch one of the best Star Trek films ever so get ready”
An interesting little factoid: The musical sorcerer we know as James Horner was only 28 years old when he wrote WOK. Too bad he passed before his time. We should ban important people like him from doing fun (and dangerous) things like flying airplanes, snow skiing etc. J/K of course!
@@artloverivy That is EXACTLY how it was. The theater audience cheered loudly when those notes from the original series started off. It was quite the thing to experience.
You've just got to be into the Star Trek genre to really appreciate this orchestration of Star Trek theme music. It's just off the chart fantastically incredible!

My concert instructor called the trombones the wheels of the car...it was the French horn that was its engine. (Strings were the frame/structure while winds were the fuel/gas).
I did not expect to be instantly brought to tears when the flute began to play The Inner Light... What a powerful and lasting effect these shows have had on me.
That was a really great episode - how to fit so very much into 40 minutes? How to fit a whole other life into a few minutes? The show achieves with us what the story achieved with its character! Believe it or not one of my good (Trek-loving) colleagues regards this episode as lame. He is a few years younger than me, though. Think of Picard's secret longing to have lived a more conventional life with wife and kids. Deeply touching in all ways. In one of the movies, Picard cries at the death of his nephew - the closest thing he had to that family. And then Picard meets Kirk that time, and both dwell on the idea of being married to their ships - sometimes the real-life fate of the Navy officer... We should not let it mean anything to us out here in "the real world", yet we do and it does. In the original poem "The Inner Light" (which George Harrison also built on), we read "Without going out of my door, I can know the ways of heaven". Perhaps we should amend that to "some of/part of" the ways of heaven, but the Holy Spirit came to me in my bedroom, and from that moment I KNOW this is the truth. Star Trek did this kind of thing for us, and there was always a fierce debate as to whether the show was religious (Roddenberry was determined that it was not, and was not even such a nice guy, yet he had the vision - perhaps literally, and I am pretty sure there is divinity in there somewhere, in spite of everything).
Glad I found this epic treasure! Listened to the whole thing, gave me goosebumps, and even watery eyes. Music can certainly make you feel things, but great music like this can evoke deep emotions. Passing the link along to lots of family and friends. Live long and prosper!

Oh my goodness , im a Star Trek fan also for 50yrs .... this is something else .... and made me cry ... thank you and well played everybody who did this Amazing concert ... WOW ...
At 30 years old I just discovered and completed TNG for the first time. I was only just born when season 3 was on tv. I didn’t think anything would ever match it, but I just finished Voyager, which I absolutely adored. I feel like I’ve experienced something truly special. A life affecting series of stories. They are utterly ageless and way ahead of their time. And this music... wow. If I live another thirty years, I know I’ll still be listening.
Yellow alert yellow alert...Styles: "Bridge how can you have a yellow alert in space dock? Bridge: "Sir someone is stealing the Enterprise!" Styles: "on my way!" Its crazy just listening to the music you can see it taking place!
The themes and music exemplifies the heart and soul of the Star Trek franchise, as stirring, timeless and immortal as the many series and movies themselves. This was also within a couple years of my 50th. I remember our humble family huddled around our TV, on edge for this weeks unspeakable adventure. Thanks Gene, Kirk, Spock, Picard, Data...for giving us the ride of our lives....May it never, never, end....
Gene Roddenberry, thank you forever from the bottom of my heart. May you rest in peace among the great men of history. For you have surely made it, with your creation.
This is the best orchestral concert of Star Trek music I've heard. My new background music when I play Star Trek Online! That was the most beautiful orchestral version of Inner Light I've ever heard. Amazing. I could feel the nuanced emotion in every piece. It was tender at just the right moment, and robust when needed; a rollercoaster of precision, musical talent and a conductor who I could feel was as passionate about Star Trek as any life long Trekkie. Again, this is the SUPERLATIVE orchestral concert of Star Trek music. Bravo!
I listen to this occasionally. Never gets old and the 90 min just whizzes by. Thank you for all the musical talents behind this! And the visuals were interesting too.
It's an interesting decision in the sequence of pieces to have the Nemesis music come before First Contact, because the opening of the Nemesis music is clearly a variation on the opening of First Contact. Personally I would have played First Contact first for that reason, plus it preceded Nemesis in the historical release date as well. Cheers to my fellow Trek Fans!!
The main melody from the First Contact theme, the one that starts around 1:04:55, is one of the most beautifully unfolding melodies I've ever heard. When it crescendos with the cymbal crash, no matter how many times I've heard it, I still get goosebumps. Jerry Goldsmith was such an amazing musician! Also, I'm so glad that they arranged a suite from "The Inner Light" Next Generation episode. In addition to being an excellent arrangement of that music, it reminds me in part why that is one of my favorite Next Generation episodes. Speaking of goosebumps, when Picard says "oh, it's me, I'm the someone" at the end of that episode... such a powerful moment. One of Patrick Stewart's best performances in my opinion.
dude, i walked down the aisle at my wedding to the vitamin string quartet version of the first contact theme. no one there really knew where it was from, so it was me and my wife's little secret. my cousin joked later on that she was surprised i didnt try and sneak any star trek references into the entire wedding. little did she know :)
The GNP Crescendo 'best of star trek' CD did such a good job with the Ressikan flute suite, I was surprised to see the thing show up here but it's neat that it's been used in other places.
The best conductor. Great passion. Incredible music. Out if this world. Tears of joy. Star Trek saved my life many times and this concert will go down in history.
In my experience, Star Trek can actually help in life crises and give comfort: don't be afraid of tomorrow, discover new possibilities, improve yourself, etc. And yet always stay true to yourself and forgive yourself for your own mistakes.
i dont know who the conductor was, but he was incredable- and so was the orchestra.i thoughti was moved when i heard john williams orchestrate "superman" in 1979, and emperial march in 2016. this was totaly movivg to me, and at 71- thats music that returned life to me. this new asian condutor is worthy of carrying john williams torch. to old timers like me who was actually their, i say well done! thank you for the memories.
This was an outstanding concert, and I kicked back with the headphones on and the volume up. I’ve been a Trekkie since ‘66. 47:34 That French horn player lost his embouchure for a second and flubbed the note. Since the horns were carrying the melody above the orchestra, it stood out like a sore thumb, otherwise it may never have been noticed.Things like that can happen to the best of players on any instrument. But the French horn is a notoriously difficult instrument to learn, control, and master. I played cornet for years, so I tried my friend’s horn thinking I could play it right away. The sound I made was akin to a moose calf calling to it’s mother. So I bow to musicians who have mastered the French horn. Cheers 🎺
So proud of myself for catching that before reading the comments, despite being a complete musical idiot otherwise. I can imagine it makes those with an ear for music wince like hell. I noticed the conductor pursed his lips as well.
@@appolonius5468 You have a good ear my friend! Yes I noticed the conductor’s reaction, and upon his viewing the video later, me thinks he had a much stronger reaction away from the camera. 😏 That horn player caught an ear full over that.
it physically hurt me. I was really looking forward to the Voyager part, and not only did that french horn split the note, the dynamics sounded really off
@@acceptedsugar Oh my yes. It’s a beautiful theme and one of my top favorites. When I rewatch Voyager episodes I allow the opening credits to play to hear the theme & watch the nice CGI. Yes, it is too bad about that horn player and the one flubbed note. I suppose a sound engineer could smooth that over. Have you heard the Film Symphony Orchestra? They specialize in film themes & have a channel on YT. The orchestra is outstanding, and their conductor, Maestro Constantino Martinez-Orts is superb. Cheers!
The music is very F Horn heavy. As a military Horn player for many years, I appreciate the difficulty of playing such a concert. Horns are the most magnificent instruments in the orchestra. Of course, I may be a bit biased.
@@kellywoods5810 It's even scarrier in book! What Khan did with the scientist to get some info about genesis are quite brutal and they did not showed it on screen. You should read it!
How I would have loved to have been in the audience at this concert. Thank you to the people who posted this video, its wonderful. I've been to the Prague film music festival in 2019 and that was a very special time too.
This concert was incredible. Such talent!! Hearing each one of these themes being played brought back so many feelings, much like I was hearing them for the very first time! They are all so great, but it came as a surprise, even to me, that I enjoyed the DS9 theme the most.
I have watched many great orchestras perform, but I don't recall seeing any of them enjoy themselves as much as this fine group does here. My only quibble with the selections is that I would definitely include the surprise attack by Khan from Star Trek 2.
Agreed - Horner's scoring for that scene is a huge reason why that is my single favorite scene of any Star Trek franchise be it film or television. Also - you may enjoy listening to the opening "Prelude" and the tracks "Introduction" & "Clouds" of Bernard Hermann's score for the 1961 film version of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island - I suspect Horner may have been inspired by it … ruclips.net/video/3Bng4rCJWUw/видео.html
Yeah, the Jar Jar Abrams / Bad Reeboot Trek movies might be utter forgettable drek, but at least they did have some great music. Still glad they aren't making any more though.
when i first saw yorktown starbase and heard the music to it in the cinema, i couldn't stop myself from weeping .. the yorktown track is now going to be played at my cremation when my coffin conveys into the furnace (interesting fact - they called it yorktown because when roddenberry first conceived trek, he was going to call the ship uss yorktown - but of course that changed to enterprise)
But how could the screenwriters be so dumb as to name a space station "Yorktown" when the term has always been used for a capital ship just as "Enterprise," "Lexington," or "Saratoga" has been?!! Get a clue people!
At 59 and being a lifelong Star Trek TOS fan, I had no idea that the "vocals" were performed by a human. I had always thought the original version from the 60's used a Theremin or something similar in order to simulate the vocals. I became very emotional seeing the finale of this video.
Little known sad fact. There are lyrics to the theme song. It was written by Roddenbary as a cash grab. It was never recorded. His lyrics would appear in the sheet music. He would get royalties. Alexander Courage was not amused. So GR would be cowritter.
Actually, the signer had the hardest part. Everyone else had the music right in front of them. She didn't have that luxury. She had to have hers memorized.
The vocals, performed by singer Louie Jean Norman (b. 1913, d. 2005) were only in the 2nd season opening title recorded in the 1967. Season 1 used the "cello version" (a more subdued arrangement also performed in this concert) and to avoid paying music royalties to the vocal performer for Season 3, yet another opening rendition was recorded using just a very theremin-like organ sound for the main theme instead of a human voice, screwing Loulie Jean out of continued royalties. Or so the producers thought. But then came the perpetual reruns, and because it is widely considered the best arrangement, most foreign markets ran Star Trek with only the 2nd season title sequence, so Loulie continued to receive her fee after all :)
I think my favorite is still: 1:04:10 Star Trek: First Contact When I watch that movie, I always skip back and listen to the Intro a second time :) A close second is: 0:46:35 Star Trek: Voyager I think Jerry Goldsmith did some great work on those.
I am a nerd and proud of it. Tons of memories, many scientists, engineers, and great minds were awakened by the series. Thank you dor the upload, LIve long and prosper and have all your systems working within established parameters. Resistance is futile.
The music and its direction had me mesmerized for the entire performance !!! I shall be watching and listening to this presentation many times I am sure. To all that may read this message, please watch and enjoy. This is music worth hearing and enjoying !!!
I am always amazed at how frequent the commercials are on youtube, when I view youtube with my work account, RUclips Premire is worth it just due to the lack of commercials alone.
I have heard so many wonderful things about Prague. I can now add a tasteful, eloquent orchestra to the list of their treasures to experience! Best from Maine USA. Bravo!!!!
This is a dream concert. Two hours of music spanning a huge swath of movies and TV series, a full boys choir, a handful of tasteful variations to the original music, and excellent performances. (I appreciate how they played only the beautiful portion of the First Contact opening.) A few pieces brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely fantastic--I enjoyed every minute of it.
Like many I have been watching since the original tv series. At the 10 second mark the goosebumps came and then the floodgates opened. Wow, you just don't realize how much this music has impacted you over the years until you sit and listen to this. I find it interesting that I immediately knew each song...
Superb. To have been there to hear it live must have been a fantastic experience. I started to fill up as soon as the first bars of the Star Trek theme started
Conductor is Amazing ! Does the Genius Jerry Goldsmith Score Justice….Music transports me back to a Time when I was so mentally exhausted but Trek soothed me into Chilling out putting things into perspective.
The 352 that gave this a thumbs down must be Ferengi that don't appreciate HU-MON music. This entire concert is awesome especially Picard's piccolo solo from a TNG episode.

Ohh Myy Godd !!! The beauty of this performance is immeasurable. Pure class and talent.
The Wrath of Khan theme never fails to give me goosebumps. So good.
This is probably the best Trek concert. Outstanding musicians, a wonderful, passionate conductor=a moving performance, not just for Trek fans and soundtrack enthusiasts but for any music lover. Thank you for creating this wonderful experience.
Yes true :)
I agree, especially when you consider that it's a live performance that has to stack up against the very polished studio soundtrack versions, which it actually does to a remarkable degree. Well done!!
The audience seemed a bit restrained.
Agreed!
@@billjenkins687 I would have been on my feet for sure.
All Trek Universe music is iconic, but damn!! That Voyager theme is just remarkable.
agree. goosebumps!
Jerry Goldsmith man one of the biggest composer of the world
I'd say the Voyager theme and the First Contact theme are about tied. They are both beautiful.
It’s a classic!!!!
Jerry Goldsmith was a genius. His music is sublime!
James Horner's opening to Wrath of Khan is just sublime.
bodie of ci5 After not hearing any OG Trek themes in the motion picture, im sure audiences had a blast hearing that opening in the theater for Wrath of Khan. It’s like “Yeah you’re boutta watch one of the best Star Trek films ever so get ready”
The best ever.
it's astounding how damn good this is...each melody is as good as the one before, the colors of the arrangement are nuts. It's really amazing
A reminder of how iconic the entire Star Trek franchise has been, not just in this country but worldwide.
You've just got to be into the Star Trek genre to really appreciate this orchestration of Star Trek theme music. It's just off the chart fantastically incredible!
Even if you're not a Trekkie, good music is what it is.
This is the most beautiful, stirring tribute to Star Trek I've ever seen and heard, just beautiful!

Never really realized how important the French horns are in this music
Hey, we are fans too ;)
My concert instructor called the trombones the wheels of the car...it was the French horn that was its engine. (Strings were the frame/structure while winds were the fuel/gas).
Yeah, but I still like the music, anyway.
Yeah most of the Star Trek Themes use French Horns. That's what gives the themes that depth.
Can't believe the horns! superb playing - no idea how their lip holds out for that long with so much playing (and high notes). Respect.
Peace and long life

Of at the least, memorable themes. Great performance!
far superior to the crap we hear now in modern film. Need to bring back thematic orchestral pieces that are exciting and fun like this to listen to.
Oh my goodness , im a Star Trek fan also for 50yrs .... this is something else .... and made me cry ... thank you and well played everybody who did this Amazing concert ... WOW ...
What an incredible performance. That conductor really is a joy to watch, he just looks like he loves what he does.
Agreed - beautiful concert, pure joy and excellence!
RIP Mr James Horner, your music will never be forgotten!
I envy anyone who saw this concert live. It never gets old listening or watching. Just....wow! 👍♥️🎶🎵
Voyager has a few episodes in which they deal with and issue, THAT WE ARE STILL DEALING WITH TODAY!!!
Voyager? Really? Life affecting? I found it utterly forgettable.

This is a concert I wish I had been able to attend. The music cuts deep to heart and soul.
Would’ve been hilarious to see Johnathon Frakes playing the trombone!
I had to check to see if he actually knew how to play the trombone, and he does! He's played for fans at conventions before
That would have been amazing! 😅

@DayneTreader Very cool!
The last piece they played from the original series with her wonderful voice took me back 50 years. Just fantastic.
Bravo!
*Very* well said my friend!
I listen to this occasionally. Never gets old and the 90 min just whizzes by. Thank you for all the musical talents behind this! And the visuals were interesting too.
The score from the motion picture is phenomenal. Gives me goosebumps.
All the songs give me goosebumps, to be honest!
Thank You for the tears of pure joy..
1:04:19 Star Trek: First Contact - Main Title
Philip Handy Jr. Amen 🖖
Cheers to my fellow Trek Fans!!
the best
Star Trek music is a master piece in its own right. It's enjoyable to listen to even without seeing the shows related to it.
And his response to opening the box and finding the flute just kills me every time!
Reduced me to tears every time I hear it, without fail. Don’t know why..❤
Indeed the most grate sound !
dude, i walked down the aisle at my wedding to the vitamin string quartet version of the first contact theme. no one there really knew where it was from, so it was me and my wife's little secret. my cousin joked later on that she was surprised i didnt try and sneak any star trek references into the entire wedding. little did she know :)
The GNP Crescendo 'best of star trek' CD did such a good job with the Ressikan flute suite, I was surprised to see the thing show up here but it's neat that it's been used in other places.
Thank You - - - - - Bringing back very fond memories of watching Trek with my father who passed away more than 20 years ago. Thanks :)
That Voyager Theme though - always my fav. This was wonderful.
"The Inner Light"; I STILL tear up. Every single time.
It is just an amazing melody, can’t help but smile when listening to it
Absolutely nothing!!
What I really like in the Star Trek music are the wind instruments. It shivers down your spine...
I love the French horns too. I always get chills from the First Contact theme.
Strings are the best.
@@mintydog06 Yes yes yes! The French Horns! Especially on James Horner's soundtracks like Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock.
Good camera work showing the orchestra as well (lots of shots of First Violin especially).
@@mintydog06 Horns, strings and timpani - there's not much more you need for the DS9 and Yoager themes. Ok, some flutes and clash cymbals.
Ein wahres Feuerwerk an Präzision, Perfektion und spielerischem Können. Ich habe selten so ein perfekt abgestimmtes Orchester gehört. WELTKLASSE!!!
And yet always stay true to yourself and forgive yourself for your own mistakes.
i dont know who the conductor was, but he was incredable- and so was the orchestra.i thoughti was moved when i heard john williams orchestrate "superman" in 1979, and emperial march in 2016. this was totaly movivg to me, and at 71- thats music that returned life to me. this new asian condutor is worthy of carrying john williams torch. to old timers like me who was actually their, i say well done! thank you for the memories.

considering your name, you are from Island, so its not too far to come here to Prague by plane, you will be welcome. ;)
The music from "The Wrath of Khan" is some of the best in film .
Daniel Dragisic Agreed. One of the most beautiful scores I’ve ever heard.
I was little kid seeing Wrath of Khan in the theater. Scared me!

Of all this amazing music from Star Trek. First Contact still gives me chills today when I listen to it.
The "Night on the Yorktown" is such a wonderful piece of music. It brings tears to my eyes every time I listen it.
Matteo Bonvicino I think so
Yeah, the Jar Jar Abrams / Bad Reeboot Trek movies might be utter forgettable drek, but at least they did have some great music. Still glad they aren't making any more though.
So much hope and optimism with just enough callbacks to Trek scores over the decades.
when i first saw yorktown starbase and heard the music to it in the cinema, i couldn't stop myself from weeping .. the yorktown track is now going to be played at my cremation when my coffin conveys into the furnace (interesting fact - they called it yorktown because when roddenberry first conceived trek, he was going to call the ship uss yorktown - but of course that changed to enterprise)
But how could the screenwriters be so dumb as to name a space station "Yorktown" when the term has always been used for a capital ship just as "Enterprise," "Lexington," or "Saratoga" has been?!! Get a clue people!
I need to go to this symphony before I die. So awesome. Even without video, you can feel you are in the future.
Thank you so much for this incredible concert!! From a huge italian fan and a loyal Trekker.... long live and prosper!
I think his wife sang it (?)
This is absolutely sublime. Pretty much perfect recreation of the sound track. I think the dislikes on this video are because it ends.
I think my favorite is still:
1:04:10 Star Trek: First Contact
When I watch that movie, I always skip back and listen to the Intro a second time :)
A close second is:
0:46:35 Star Trek: Voyager
I think Jerry Goldsmith did some great work on those.
