First Contact is often regarded as one of the best Star Trek movies and I think, among many things, the music score is one of the reasons. It was something that I was humming long after the movie was over and the theme is one that I still hum to this day, 25 years later. It’s so majestic, serene, melancholic all in one lol.
The part that is the music played when the Vulcans land and make first contact with Zefren Cochrane gives me a lump in my throat every time I hear it. It is so majestic and moving as it signifies the beginning of a whole new world.
I always feel that the music has a sense of longing, of hope for a brighter future worth fighting for. At least that is what it makes me feel when I hear it.
The part of the Anthem that is about the First Contact between Humans and Vulcans is extremely moving and inspiring. I always get emotional when I hear it.
I was 11 years old back in 1996 when I saw this great Star Trek Movie with my late wonderful dad who was a OG Trekker with Star Trek (1966-1969) and I'm a Trekker since 1987 (Star Trek : The Next Generation 1987-1994) . Watching and loving Star Trek since I was 2( Star Trek : The Next Generation , Star Trek, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine(1993-1999)
"I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done!" One of the best lines in the film.
More importantly is that afterwards, due to the mentioning of Moby Dick to him, he realizes the right course of action and overcomes his need for personal vengeance.
One of my favourite movies ever. Maybe because it is the only one that happens on a date I will probably see and that made me think as a child that Star Trek was actually possible. Maybe because this theme is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I ever heard. Jerry Goldsmith was a legend, and this is where his son Joel started following his steps, which would lead him to making the soundtrack of Stargate SG1, one of my favourites too. IMO, Jerry Goldsmith's music for Star Trek is the definitive music of the franchise. Just like John Williams' is for Harry Potter. IDC if anyone thinks Horner's or Rosenman's or Giacchino's music is better, to me Goldsmith is the sound of Star Trek.
Gotta love how the film ends on that beautiful note with Earth having made first contact with others, and Zefram Cochrane introducing the Vulcans to tequila and rock n' roll, but they remain emotionless as ever. It gives us that amusing and endearing sense of how they have a LOT to learn about each other, but we can smile, knowing that all that will come in good time, and eventually, we'll achieve world peace and the founding of the Federation to establish greater peace and unity in the galaxy, all thanks to Cochrane's warp flight and that of the Enterprise, having saved their own future to return home.

They are in interstellar space now. The first space shuttle was named Enterprise because of Star Trek fans petitioning to name it Enterprise. Enterprise has such a long tradition in ship names so it's only appropriate that real spaceships bear the great name Enterprise in addition to science fiction spaceships.
john tracy Funny thing is, the space shuttle Enterprise is the only shuttle that never went into space, because it was just a test version. The Star Trek people should have thought that one over twice.

When I hear the main theme, I envision one of our current space shuttles or probes entering the vastness of space and Voyager I and Voyager II really are on star treks of their own, although not at warp speed, because they have left our solar system. They are in interstellar space now. The first space shuttle was named Enterprise because of Star Trek fans petitioning to name it Enterprise. Enterprise has such a long tradition in ship names so it's only appropriate that real spaceships bear the great name Enterprise in addition to science fiction spaceships.
You are absolutely right John! And I hope one day a ship would bear the name of "Roddenberry" :)
yea there should be a ship called Roddenberry lol
john tracy Funny thing is, the space shuttle Enterprise is the only shuttle that never went into space, because it was just a test version. The Star Trek people should have thought that one over twice.
@@cooper_s still an honor.
@@cooper_s It was the first of a frontier. That's everything Star Trek is about.
