  • Heres a tutorial for making a full, boot like leg guard using Thibra! This type of leg guard is useful for characters like WidowMaker (Overwatch) or Lotor (Voltron).

    I thought of either, using only craft foam painted or to make them with fabric, with pockets inside for the wiring and batteries of the leds... oof.
    Thank you for showing this tutorial, it inspired me a lot!

      Ice Kitty hello and thank you! I did not make the template avails as everyone will need a different size. Calf size varies and a persons height plays a role making the pattern. There’s several tutorials on making patterns (such as the duct tape a plastic wrap method), so I wanted to focus on the shapes used here. Subtle curves in a pattern make a difference (especially with things like “boot armor”). In the future I will have some armor patterns up on Etsy, but this tutorial was more to focus on the shapes and the process :>

    that's helpful. but i gotta ask since all i'm working with is hot glue velcrow and 10mm and 5mm foam is it a good idea to make reserved pair of pants and basically sew a velcrow to anckles of the pants and heat glue the velcrow to the ends of the shin armor so that bouth of them attach to the leg ? i'm asking since it's my full body armor cosplay

    Are those the materials most commonly used for movie set pieces as well? I'm new to this and may have made the mistake of buying a lot of carbon fiber thinking I might as well make a very realistic space suit.
    Regardless, great work! You should post more videos of other projects you make.

      Hey sorry for the slow reply! I only just noticed your comment! These materials aren't typically what you'd use on a film set, but they honestly would work for film costuming (at least in some aspects). Often times larger budget films have the capable to use various materials that require more tools (and more money) to work with. The materials shown here can get a similar effect, but won't need as many tools to work with and can be more cost effective, making them really nice for cosplay! That being said, use whatever you like!
      And thank you! I've got a stock pile of footage for other tutorials sitting on my laptop. I just haven't taken the time to edit videos together yet!

    I’ve got a question. If you’re going to cover the shoe, how would yo do it?

    • @Cheese.cake.panda.
      @Cheese.cake.panda.  6 лет назад

      Sorry for the late reply! I didn't know I'd had a comment on here. It really depends on what you mean by covering the shoes. You obviously can't use anything hard or your wouldn't be about to bend your feet. You can make little armored toe pieces, but any more than that can make walking hard. There are a lot of tutorials on covering a shoe with fabric or on making boot covers. That could be something to look at :>

    how to you make your pattern fr the armor? i can never seem to quite size mine right because i have much more defined shins ;-;

      I usually just eyeball my patterns and use measurements and sometimes old patterns to gauge it. I like to measure at my ankle, under the knee, and at the fullest part of my calf. I then reference those measurements while making my pattern :> If you find that doesn't work well, you could always try what Kamui Cosplay does. For a lot of her patterns she wraps the area, leg in this case, with plastic wrap and then duct tape. You can then draw the pattern you need and carefully cut it off! I find I usually need to clean up the pattern a bit after this method (mainly just to straighten), but it does help to get a fitted piece just right! I hope that helps!

    Hi, i have a question. Is there a substitute i can use for the Thibra? Its hard to get it where i am.

    • @Cheese.cake.panda.
      @Cheese.cake.panda.  6 лет назад

      Hello! It depends on where you are from. Warble is another notable thermoplastic that works the same as Thibra. It's a little different than Thibra, but ultimately works the same. Theres other thermal plastics out there, some of which are easier to find depending on where you live. If you can't find a thermal plastic thats easy to get where you live you can always use just foam! It's much cheater than thermal plastics, but won't be quiet as durable. However, you can see make some really nice armor using just craft foam :> Hope that helps!

      Big_ Daddy69 hello. I’ve explained why there is no pattern template is done past comments, but I know RUclips stacks and organizes comments weirdly sometimes. To put it simply, everyone needs a different size as legs measure differently. The pattern I use is sized for myself and would not fit everyone so I did not make it available for download. This tutorial is more to show the process of building the leg guards as I had gotten a lot of questions on instagram a few years ago when I made this tutorial : ) It’s been a few years since I made this tutorial and I have started putting together so pdf patterns for Etsy, but none of them are listed yet. Sorry!
