I'm looking to teach my cat the buttons, he's pretty smart and gets into trouble pretty often, so I'm hoping to get him some enrichment options and hoping this helps me communicate with him on why he can't eat every two seconds and to get him to stop chewing literally everything because he wants food every two seconds (he's on a diet from 20lbs down to 14lbs) Aka "Food later" needs to be established - he's schedule fed but sometimes he's wanting food several hours ahead of schedule - sometimes just because he's bored, so I'll alternatively play with him or cuddle, but sometimes he just wants food early which I don't give into
Thanks for the advice. My cat has 4 buttons and while she knows what they mean, she has only used one on a regular basis. It is window and it is near a window we open for her to look outside. Funny thing is that she will use it with my husband and with me she just meows for my attention. The other buttons Lucky, outside cat friend, food and downstairs, both my cats understand what they mean and will react if I press them but haven't pressed them except by accident which I immediately reinforced by modeling. The food button wasn't pushed for six months and was the most deliberately pushed button but that was weeks ago and hasn't been used since. I push the buttons, say the words and do the actions but I feel that somehow I have led them to believe that I am the one who is supposed to push the buttons. I have been working on target training and it is going good but still isn't helping with the buttons. I'm ready to give up except I want to succeed so badly.
