    I dont get why everyone is hating it. It's not supposed to be 3000$ class A boutique amp, it is an affordable rock amp. I really liked the tones around 2:45 and 3:40 :)

    He even said that this amp is a good amp if you're just starting out or just playing on the weekends at home. You guys expect every single thing he reviews to be a Mesa boogie cab but that's not what this is designed for. I have a small Crate amp that sounds the same and does what I need it to do for me practicing. I would never mic that thing up for recording but it's a great practice amp. This is pretty much the same thing.

    • @spada60

      +Chris Goetchius its more than a practice amp. U can play live with this too for club gigs. I mean what the fuck r u people here big guitar heros who play in big stadiums. Jeeze. In my band our singer plays a Rickenbacker with a 5 watt amp and it sounds great and we play classic rock so I dont know what the frik all u great guitar players whine about all the time

      @@nordicomsystems8841 No. I'm not even much of a tone snob but the dirty channel on this sounds like shit. The cleans are decent but that's half the damn options. I got this as my first amp and within 3 months I already upgraded. I use it strictly for practicing with headphones. The distortion tones are seriously bad.

    Some of the comments below are made by people who just don't seem to get it with Orange's smaller amps.
    I own two Orange 20LDX amps for practice and travel. I bought both on a whim after buying a smaller amp that just wasn't cutting it sound-wise. I was very happy with both then showed them to a friend/pro musician. I grabbed my LP, handed it to him and told him to not pay any attention to the amps until he heard them. The look on his face told everything: these amps, no matter what you might think, have very good tone, enough punch and drive and satisfactory bass response. My friend has been a pro for nearly twenty years and makes much of his livelihood from playing. To hear him say that he thought the 20LDX amps were tube amps said it all.
    The built-in tuner and effects on the LDX are very good though the effects could use a bit more manual adjustability. I agree about the plastic logo: not the smartest placement. And they can rattle a bit. BUT: this can also been seen as part of the charm of the brand. [I don't see it that way but someone like Dave Davies back in the early '60's might have.]
    I have several amps with which to compare: a 'real' 1968 Deluxe hardwired by the late great Sal Trentino [T-Birds, BB, Robert Cray to name a few], a Marshall plexi, and an Orange AD-5 tube practice/recording amp and the 20LDX is a good fit into that variety. Cleaner than the AD5, dirtier than any of them and way more portable to boot. Clean and dirty, they sing.
    Don't sell them short. For what they are and what they're intended, they're great.

  • @nordicomsystems8841
    @nordicomsystems8841 5 лет назад +19

    Anyone looking into buying one of these, go for it. It's an amazing fucking amp, these haters here are just talking out of their asses...most of them probably don't even own a guitar. The 20RT has one of the best cab sims you can get, it's a MASSIVE improvement over the last-gen 20W Crush. I have some of the best metal amp/cab models you can get and I'm always hooking up the 20RT when it's time to track guitars. The 4-stage gain preamp is insane for such a small amp, even Ola was like "WTF?". So yeah don't listen to these salty individuals here; they're miserable and want you to be miserable too, stupid asssholes.

    Brought one of these in 2015, it was a demo stock item and I got it for about US $100. I have a US $20 X-vive Tube Squasher going into it and I usually use headphones and play along to videos and jam tracks on youtube, running from my laptop headphone out to the aux input on the amp. I really like it
    Yeah, a line out for another speaker would be good, but just the basic set up has been good company for the past 5 years. The Tube Squasher was a present to myself, xmas '19

    I agree, in fact they should have put the 10" that's in the 35RT into this unit & put a 12" into the RT I think that would have been perfect.
    I was shocked when you posted this .... And I agree its otherwise a good beginner/intermediate amp or for someone whom wants more treble/middy kinda sound. After hearing the demo of the 35RT with its efx loop, channel switching & larger speaker I think if they can put that unit on the market in that $249 range they could have a winner.

I do use amplitube with it but when using the built in distortion it sounded fine. The clean channel is kinda lifeless honestly but the dirty channel sounds fine.

  • @tbirdpunk

    It really isn't that terrible. I'm sure the price will be higher than what someone should actually pay for it due to the name on the box though. These will be a nice gem on the used market in a few years for young/budding guitarists. I've heard far worse solid state amps - the Carvin SX and Fender Roc Pro 1000 come to mind. Young folks today have been spoiled, don't realize how many options they have to choose from. I had crate, fender, and peavey solid state amps to pick from when I started playing. And they weren't anywhere near as nice as this. First amp: Peavey Rage 158 - yeah, that was an awesome amp - ugh.

      Uziel Yanez I just got a Vox Mini3 and it sounds a lot better than this. I don't get how this could sound that bad, it's pretty big for a practice amp and Orange usually knows what how to make a great amp, but this has absolutely no low end at all.

      I hate to admit, my first amp a crappy $ 50 peavey rage 158 15 watt with blue marvel speaker. Sounds better than this, the clean channel on this peavey sounds like a fender and the gain channel with 12x7 because it's a transtube combo, actually sounds better without a eq or overdrive pedal.

    This thing costs only 145 Euros (older version without Reverb and Tuner). Would it make sense to buy it and modify it to be able to connect to a 1x12 V30 cab? +Braedon Fisher u know after listening to the line 6 spider IV 75 watt again this thing really rocks. I am going to buy one. Great features that work well for the price. Can't beat it

      spada60 You CAN beat it, but I personally think for the bargain it is a GREAT practice amp. You'd need hundreds if not thousands more $ to get a much better set up, so yeah. Just remember: medium-low bass, med-high treb and LOTSA of mids on most settings. Metal setting with some gain boost and a lot of mids/treb work well. CHEERS!

    Let me ask one question: Why do you play all those amps, when you have a kemper?
    I'm about to buy an EVH 5150... or should I rather get the Kemper Powerhead?

    How loud does this thing get? Cause me and one of my friends are planning on starting a pop punk band (Green Day, Blink 182, All Time Low, early Panic At The Disco, etc), and I need something that can get pretty loud but also bedroom levels so I don't annoy the shit out of my parents.

      cover182 this is perfect practice amp and small gig amp. I have the smaller version and it’s pretty loud. I’m upgrading to this one

      Guitaraholic458 they take pedals great. I had a crush 35 watt with a boss super overdrive and got massive Foo fighters tones.

    this or Blackstar ID Core 20?? and why please? thank you!

    • @shaunduffy3912
      @shaunduffy3912 7 лет назад

      orange because the blackstar just seems thin and dead from my experience, although the blackstar has built in effects so it depends if you want a good raw sound to build on or one that has all the bells and whistles

      Shaun Duffy thanks for the response! i got myself the Orange and didn't have any regret! very nice sounding, easy to tweak, suitable for old school rock. throw in a distortion pedal and it's ready for metal

    First time I think I've said this but I'm not feelin this amp. The cr60 and cr120 sound awesome but this little guy not so much. You can tell it's not fluffs recording it's the amp. Even with it being a "beginners"amp there's still a plethora of gear out there that's probably cheaper and will sound better. When it comes to quality beginners amplifiers I believe line 6 kinda has that locked down.

    • @spada60
      @spada60 9 лет назад

      +bsdraven well I dont read very good reviews about the 6. most people say it's horrible. So dont know what ur talkin bout cause this blows the 6 right out the water

      NjuiMusic Dude, totally... Reminded me at the opening of some of their Iowa stuff or their new album (which throws me back to Iowa tbh).. I liked the heavy Slipknot riffs... The amp sounded pretty good with distortion, but to be honest the clean stuff sounded pretty tone-stiff.

    I have to admit, the tone is not there, but I'm not a huge fan of orange amps in general. My local music store loves em tho and I don't get it, you have to cut the highs drastically in order for them not to sound fizzy, and by then they sound dull and wouldn't cut through in a band setting, of course different speakers may solve this but they just don't appeal to me, but great playing as always! This is one of my favorite demo songs you play. Keep rockin dude cheers
