  • Dr. Amador talks about the difference between negative and positive symptoms in schizophrenia, and how being aware of, and treating, negative symptoms can give people with schizophrenia a better quality of life, can help them rise beyond the "glass ceiling" where patients often stall in their struggle to regain normal lives.

I have what seems to be deficit schizophrenia, but off my klonopin and suboxone and other "downers" like zyprexa I seem to have paranoia and sometimes delusions, even thought insertion. A therapist told me I cant have schizophrenia because I have insight. Yet, Ive studied psychiatry as a layman. Im 26 and things have gone downhill since about 21. I dont shower often or brush my teeth.. or get out of bed with my laptop for anything but absolutely necessary things.

So.. are there any options? You clearly depicted all the symptoms, but I dont know if you mentioned any strategies or coping mechanisms. At least I didn't catch it. I realize there's obviously no silver bullet, but is there.. anything at all?

where is meaning in school, work, relationships, sports, partying? if you could find or define meaning in anything i would probably not be agitated of this video. i mean - ive been there, looked for it and there is no meaning that would register as such, except for the desire to understand, to know. normally we are deluded by thinking that we are to look for meaning in meaningless activities, like playing pingpong, or watching sports or voting, or earning money for it' s own sake. well... what you gonna do with money? something meaningful? what?where is any meaning? answer is to realise that there is no meaning and then play with rocks or plants or people or mathematics or chess, knowing that this is all distractions for children. the real thing shines through as lightningbolt when there is no more meaningful thing to do. then everything has equal meaning except work and scool. and we basically kill those people because their presence reveals our own delusions and dearly held beliefs to be just protection mechanisms for social security where evrybody guards everybody to keep dreaming perfectly meaningless meaning in dragging our existances further in time doing what we hate whithout any reason why. and other people telling us that we must enjoy, for example, trying to cross the imaginary finish line faster than opponent, or getting into a better room to spend the night as carreer success. were all beggars for toys, comfort and entertainment. i apologise for showing the bottom side of knowing

Actually, I get what Edgar is saying. The feeling of hopelessness, nothing to look forward to or a reason to be here at all. I struggle with that same feeling pretty much all the time. The company of children seems to heal my soul.

Dr. I understand now about the negative symptoms and how important they can be but please tell me what else I can do to try and help my son I need him motivated to get up off the couch she just came back here from California and I haven’t seen him in six years and we have been working on this transition for months and now that he is here and got settled a little he still on the couch all the time I want him to have the best life you can possibly have I just wish he did! I know I should find the things that interest him that will motivate him but you know when you have this illness schizophrenia very few things interest them and motivate them maybe not everybody but I know with my son very few things to do
