- How to make homemade Texas Sheet Cake! This Texas Sheet Cake Recipe is one from Greg's family cookbook! We are making this Texas Sheet cake with no nuts, as it's for Greg's birthday, and he does not like nuts. Texas Sheet Cake is like a brownie type cake with amazing frosting. It's hard to even describe! It's delicious!

Ingredients:
2 Cups of Flour
2 Cups of Sugar
2 sticks margerine
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup water
2 Eggs
4 Tbsp Cocoa
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp Baking Soda
Frosting Ingredients
3 cups Powdered Sugar
1 stick margarine
1/3 cup Milk
4 Tbsp Cocoa
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. For the cake, mix together flour and sugar, set aside. In a saucepan, mix Margarine, water and cocoa, and bring to a rapid bowl. Stir into the flour and sugar, and quickly add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and baking soda. Pour onto a greased cake pan. Place in the oven for 15 -17 minutes.
The secret to this cake is to have the frosting still be warm as the warm cake comes out of the oven. So when there is around 5 - 7 minutes left on the cake, take the margarine, milk and cocoa, and bring it to a rapid boil in a saucepan. In another bowl, have 3 cups of powdered sugar. Once the mixture comes to a boil, pour it over the powdered sugar and mix like crazy!
While the frosting is still hot, and the cake is still hot, pour the frosting all over the cake and spread it out. That's it! Once the cake gets down to room temperature, it's good to eat!

I have never made buttermilk with vinegar. I always thought it was whole/ full-fat milk and lemon juice. But you learn something new every day. Hehehe you should have made a little one for the pups (carob powder) it would have been cute watching them trying it with Thor. x

You can use sprinkles on top of that. Have you tried adding coffee in the frosting? I haven't tried cooking ingredients, I just mix everything together. We use coffee in Finland. I put coffee in the dough and in the frosting too. We call it "mokkapala" (literally means mocha bits or brownie). Never tried using buttermilk, so I must to try this recipe. My old job was a baker-confectioner, but don't get pressure! :)

I make a cake similar to this. Mine is Texas Fudge cake, this one has nuts in it, It was my Mom's recipe from many years ago she made it and passed the recipe down. Now I need to get that recipe out and maybe make it for my son's birthday that is coming up in April.

Since you make a lot of stuff for dogs with carob, I thougth I'd share my mom recipe for people carob cake so maybe you can try it some time. We always used to call it just apple carob cake
Ingedients:
4 eggs
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar or 1/3 cup of honey (honey makes it more moist)
1/2 cup milk
2/3 cup raisins or dried raspberries
1 cup carob powder
3 or 4 grated apples
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1 tsp baking powder
Instructions:
Wisk egg yolks and sugar to foam like texture, add milk, oil and flour with baking powder. Add carob to mixture,. Wisk egg whites to stiff peaks and flod them into mixture, then add raisins and apples.
Pour mixure in baking pan and bake at 355F for 25 minutes. Melt chocolate chips in microwave and pour over baked cake. Cut when complitely cooled.

That looks so good you would love the chocolate mayonnaise cake that my mother used to make you can make it a homemade or you could use a cake mix and you put mayonnaise in it and it gets so dark and Rich you don't put no frosting in it it's just like a pound cake it's to die for but I like the cake that you just cooked though that would have been a good birthday cake I just had my birthday on March 16th
If you watched last Saturday's video, we talked about doing either the Mayo cake or this one. We have had mayo cake before that's why we mentioned it. heheh and we will be making it in a future video.

As much as you say don't drink buttermilk, there was a chef at the school I went to for pastry school and he drank buttermilk all the time. Every single one of us was grossed out by it haha

Add the baking soda to the buttermilk to get an moist and more airy cake.
