Anytime a recipe begins with 2 sticks of butter 🧈, you know it's going to be good! I have actually never made a sheet cake but I've saved the recipe and I will definitely let this one be my first! A scoop of vanilla ice cream beside that would make it perfection on a plate😋❗️
My mom used to make these for us when I was growing up. Back then we would have a full dinner every night with a main course,salad,sides bread and butter with every meal and always a dessert. When I would get home from school we always had something good, cookies, cake, pie, pudding etc. when I was older my dad would buy a birthday cake every week lol. I sure do miss those days ❤

I grew up with this cake ….. my Mom made it on a regular basis back in the 70’s ….. we called it Texas Brownies . It is so delicious ….. thanks for making this Catherine … you brought me back some delicious memories 😀

We make this but we put cinnamon in the cake batter and double the chocolate icing recipe!! lol Sooo good!!! 😊

Wish I had a dollar for every one of these I’ve made! I’ve been making these for 50 years. My girls always want it for their birthday. We like it in a 13x9 pan. And I’ve never used the nuts. I use the sour cream when I don’t have buttermilk. Most delicious cake ever!
I've made it about that long also, but have never tried it in a smaller pan to make thicker squares.. we love this as brownies because it's the perfect texture to us, instead of quite as dense as traditional brownies..
This looks amazing ! And anytime a big heavy mixer or even a hand held mixer doesn’t have to come out, I’m all about that kind or recipe! The easier the better !! Also anytime a recipe starts w 2 sticks of butter come on you know it’s going to rock !!! Will make soon !!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Texan here. We never used sheet pan always did 9x13. Always added a bit of cinnamon also. Icing has to have pecans. Best cake ever!! Love all your recipes.
Make this cake often. Same recipe. Only thing different I use same pan for both chocolate syrups, cooke the icing while cake is baking & pour over cake as soon as it comes from oven. I sometimes use a smaller pan for a thicker cake. Thanks Catherine.May bake one tomorrow for my birthday & our 57th anniversary. Yes married on my birthday. Have a great weekend.

Being a Texan, I grew up eating this cake! 😘 We had lots of pecan trees on our property so we always added finely chopped pecans on top! 😋
My dad would watch football games and shell pecans while he watched. He must have shelled thousands of pounds of pecans in his lifetime! ☺️
Today is his birthday and he would have been 98! I miss him so much, he was the best dad ever! 💞
You could have put pecans on half of the cake Catherine! 😉 With 3 kids in the house, we often altered the toppings to please everyone! 😚

Tip: store sour cream (or anything like that, dips etc.) Upside down in fridge. That way the liquid will be at the bottom when you take it out to use it instead all at the top😊.. hope this helps😊

The thing I loved about Texas sheet cake is you can cut the recipe down to a half or quarter recipe and you don’t need much coco powder. Sometimes I just make the cake portion and add on white frosting.

This is a great recipe. I have a cookbook that I got when I visited Texas and this is in there with lots of other goodies!! Now it needs a cold glass of milk or ice cream
I made this cake ALOT when my children were young. I added cold coffee instead of water, 1 tsp. cinnamon and buttermilk instead of sour cream. It always turned out!

My mother use to make the best chocolate cake. I remember that she added vinegar and baking soda but cannot remember the rest of the recipe. Unfortunately she didn't write down recipes as she had them all in her head.

Ooooo my goodness Catherine! This cake was my favorite cake when I was growing up! My Mom would make it for our family all the time! I haven't had it in several years! My mom used milk in hers but I have no doubt sour cream could be just as tasty! I have to see if we have everything to make this cake... If not someone is making a store run! Lol!
