Domed are the natural shape a droplet of water has when it’s falling. A round nose is the most natural and accurate shape below 1116 fps. The speed of sound
You are right,... I use the H & N Field Target Tropy domed pellets for my Weihrauch 97 KT. You are doing a great job!! Keep it up!! Greetings from the Netherlands!!
These are not designed to shoot much past 10 metres ! Plus they are only shot from rifles rated at six foot pounds ! They are not made for a hefty kick up the rear !
Nice bit of scientific research you’ve done in this video. Nice to see the bar raising on real results with available projectiles. You’re doing real work with that. Let’s see how how all the results play out, but you know how to do research. Thanks.
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH GOOD SAVE! BECAUSE I WAS ABOUT TO BUY A BUNCH OF POINTED HEAD PELLETS I'M ABOUT ACCURACY" AND I KNOW MY GUN ALREADY IS ABOUT THE POWER GOOD JOB!😇
Did you chrono all pellets or do you asume that they all leave the barrel with the same speed. In my case I have a hw100 and different pellets with the same weight leave my barrel with different speeds. The same with my cal 25 airguns.
Depends on the gun. Before the change the ONLY 177 that i could 1 hole in all my various 177s was the very dirty but stellar performance Winchester magnum 9.8gr round nose pellets. They've swapped for what LOOKS like jsb rs which shoot like shit in all my guns. Right now the next best in 177 for my guns is h&n sniper magnum 15gr but all are 20+fpe guns too. Those are fantastic. Crosman Premier 10.5gr ultra magnum pellets are decent too and in my guns kill jsb. My 25cal 125 is AIR ARMS 25.40gr diabolo field pellets (jsb machines) and h&n Baracuda past 100yds, h&n crow magnums in 26.24gr - 40 in is all the above. I one hole all so they're close but AA 25.40gr pellets are probably 1. Haven't tried others as 1 holes are good lol. Hatsan mod 125 vortex in 25cal. I like high fpe guns too, they equate to better range. My air arms 25cal in 25.40gr pellets reatain 16fpe at 150yds avg.
Domed, period. Their shape gives them the best BC, hence the most energy and accuracy down range. Every barrel is different and may like pointed or flat but they won’t carry the same knockdown power as a domed.
I'm sorry but I disagree. The best pellet shape is... the one which proves to be more accurate than the rest, as simple as it sounds. You can't know in advance which shape or even weight is better before trying a lot of brands and models because each barrel prefers one different. I have a .25 which is more accurate with a domed (H&N Field Target Trophy)., a .22 better with JSB Straton Jumbo (pointed), another .22 with Excite Hammer (domed made by H&N and comercialized also by Norica as Hammer), a .177 with JSB Exact Express (domed but very lightweight) and the fifth is another .177 better with H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme (hollow point with expansion grooves). As you can see there are not rules. By the way, in my country hunting with airguns is illegal son I don't kill anything but all my targets are between 30 and 40 meters of distance because I'm a kind of prepper and I think that's a reasonable hunting distance if some day the society goes to hell.
I'm observant Jimbo 1:34 the lids show nothing about 14.3gr pellets. 1:55 Notice all the lids have 14.3gr clearly visible. Opps! Nevertheless, still a great analysis of pellet shape vs accuracy. Edit: also weird is I didn't get notification....just checked and there you go!
Great video, but I wish you had included the fpe and BC for those that can't calculate it, and if you don't, that's O.K. too; therefore, not to just talk out my ass, nor take over the comment section with scary math, let me include a quick and dirty way to calculate for fpe at your 45 yard range because that is the one that really matters. To begin, at the muzzle 860 fps with same 14.3 grain pellet weight gives 23.49 fpe. Now, how to input in a calculator: fps^2 x gr / 671^2 = fpe, so 860^2 x 14.3 / 671^2 = 15.3 (rounded) At your 45 yard range: 694 x 694 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 15.30 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Dome" 686 x 686 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 14.95 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Hollow" 662 x 662 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 13.92 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Destroyer" 662 x 662 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 13.92 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Pointed" In conclusion, the laws of physics are not just really good ideas, and the worst hit in history is still better than the best miss in history, in other words, accuracy trumps power each and every time.
Its a VERY GOOD video my freind... bullets are shaped that way for a reason too ...

Greetings from the Netherlands!!
Every pellet ammo video I've watched doesn't test the match grade pellets(the flat top ones) which 10 out of 10 times are by far the most accurate

Thanks for mentioning the Beeman Chief liking the copper domed,!

Have you played around with reg and hammer spring to achieve the lowest extreme spread and standard deviation ?
good Info James,Thanks for all the effort you put into your Videos, it helps us newbies a lot
Thanks for watching!

Depends on the task at hand.

Nice!
Yeap, my Gauntlet loves the dome pellets up 85 something yard kills. Any plans on using heavier pellets for testing?
Wannabe Mgtow yep...I use 21gr, 18gr, 16 gr, 14.3gr
The love videos man I use the hollow points they are amazing up to 50yards keep it up
Brandon Motta thanks!
Conical would be the pointed pellets conical = cone, dome = round
Verry underrated channel!! I hope you won't get sold when you l get big
This is an awesome video
Hi James, what are your thoughts on the dome shaped pellets as far as small game hunting is concerned?
Thanks, very informative.
Domed, period. Their shape gives them the best BC, hence the most energy and accuracy down range. Every barrel is different and may like pointed or flat but they won’t carry the same knockdown power as a domed.
Thanks! yea to the average airgunner dome would be best.
I use pionted Damm good pellets that's the name and they are like steel

Hi newhuskytwenty, I am very interested to know in what country is illegal to hunt with airguns, can you please tell me (us) what country that is?
@@mauricecobo5973 Spain, it's also forbidden to hunt with .22 lr.
My God, six years later. Are you still alive?
Love the videos. Have you done any tuning to your gauntlet yet?
Jeff Sparks thanks! only tuning I've done so far is to the trigger...adjusted to me...I plan on keeping my 3yr warranty as long as possible haha

Thanks, the pics of the cans were off the web haha
I kind of figured that ;-)
For target or hunting? That's the only REAL question after accuracy.😂
I liked the video, very informative.
How do you think the lead round ball shape would compare to the domed pellet?
thanks, not sure haven't tried them
O.K., thanks.
You are true and impressive you tell like it is
Damn dude get on with it!!
My guy it’s a 6 minute video if you are truly that impatient that’s sad lol go some where’s else
Good video! Let’s see some grouping videos!!!
Matthew K thanks!
Domes are best!
BC / ballistic coefficient / aka air drag
Joel Stewart yep, thanks!
good video
steve evans thank you!
do you lube your pellets??
Yep, I have a 2nd Airgun channel called "All About Airguns"
Can the pointy ones kill?
They all can.

686 x 686 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 14.95 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Hollow"
662 x 662 x 14.3 / 671 / 671 = 13.92 foot pound energy (fpe) rounded "Destroyer"
