Thanks for testing these in FAC guns. Most UK shooters don’t have FAC guns, but here in the states I love shooting my 20 Foot-pound break barrel with my buddys. And testing them out of higher power guns helps me out. Happy shooting!
Great video, thank you. For 1377 owners, my best hunting pellet is jsb exact express with rws superdome a very close second at less than 1/2 the price. The rws is heaver, but flies the same as jsb. A dime group at 20 yards is the best my gun gets, and 25 yards is a rewarding shot for this little gun. Stock and 3-9x 40mm AO Tasco scope added makes for a fun cheap gun.
Outstanding as always Andy! Great job by Mrs. AAR. Proof that with a 12ft/lb .22 rifle, accuracy is paramount. Sure... Whack up the power, and projectile deformation becomes a factor. Considering also the price because i wanted to buy many thousands of pellets i found JSB Exact Diabolo were the best for me. Also i tried some Superdomes which were just a joke. I loved Sniper Magnums at 25 meters but they disapoint me at 45. I wanted a pellet that would hit a nice group to all distancies from 25 to 45-50 meters. Next test will be from 50 to 100 meters i hope anytime soon.
Great review it was nice to see Mrs AAR too. I was quite shocked at how poor some of the pellets performed at sub 12lbs. I've just got a new permission and was looking for some hunter pellets for rat control but going on this, I think I'll just stick to the new pellets I use and was surprised how well they shot. I gave them a go just because they were pretty cheap, not the done thing normally using cheaper pellets. These were H&N EXCITE HAMMER 22 cal. With these in my Weihrauch HW95K springer rifle (we all know how the gun choses the pellet) they performed really well on paper at around 35 metres. Giving just over 5 pence piece grouping. I ordered 10 tins as soon as I shot the first tester tin full. Maybe it would be informative to pick an aray of cheaper to cheapest pellets around and test those. Maybe some shoot better than the more expensive ones or will give the newer people to shooting a good lesson in why not to buy cheap pellets. keep these reviews coming they're really great and help quite a few people myself included when choosing rifles and different products. Thank you.
Nice video. I started using the Hades this year for squirrels and the result is a freezer full of bushy tails. Absolutely love this pellet. Hits with a definite “thud”. Most of all it’s extremely accurate in both springers and PCP’s.
Very informative, thanks. The 40 ft lbs Hades looks extra nasty with expansion.. but I don't think anyone should be surprised that little if any expansion happens with a sub 12 ft lb gun.
A great video. Hollow point bullet expansion is velocity dependant and it is clear that the same applies to airgun pellets. So for sub 12 guns you are right: a normal dome head in the right place is enough.
Still using my air arms diablos from 15 years ago ( creating a family got in the way of shooting) now my sons are getting old enough to introduce to shooting, my old pcp's and springers are back out, as well as me considering that maybe they need a gun to suit themselves (a full length falcon sporter single shot is the one they can use easiest, but there are other, better options for backyard plinking) I was worried that my local dealer didn't list the air arms pellets that I spent thousands of pellets narrowing down to being the best for my rifles, glad to see the jsb's will be a suitable replacement when I turn out to grab more pellets. For me, consistent accuracy was always the most important thing for hunting, if you can put that pellet where it's intended, it's going to do the job. 15 years ago, .177 was a bit controversial from the old guard for hunting, but a .177 pcp just below 12ftlb's is just easier to be accurate with at any distance out to 45 yards, at least in my experience and with the airguns I used.
Out to 35 yards.. Ive had great success using .177 RWS Hobby flat heads. Ive also used JSB Exacts or one of the many clones and Accupels. For the most part... Everything works to kill rabbits, mice and rats. Shot placement is key and accuracy. So use a pellet that is accurate out of your rifle.
I just bought a .22 air rifle a week or 2 ago. I thought it was me or the rifle becausey shots where sometimes 5cm/2inches in distance from each other at only 12,5m or 13,7 yards (not a lot of space at home). Then I bought the H&N baracuda match and my shots where instantly more accurate and consistent groups within 1cm of each other at the same distance. I'm so happy to have dound your channel so I wouldn't give up on the rifle or myself. Pellet type and brand really do matter immensly!
I'm just starting out and wanting to learn and understand the sport and just want to say how excellent and informative your reviews are.. I haven't purchased any kit yet but the reviews from your channel are pointing me in the right direction.. thank you
Thanks for the ballistic gel tip. Over the years I've shot a number of calibers (mostly hunting loads) at a wide variety of materials and it has been infomative. Just two examples; a .22 hornet round will go clean through a 3/16" (nearly 5mm) plow blade at 50m. A 200gn soft point .358 cal bullet travelling at 2700fps will pass straight through 12" of white gum (eucalyptus, "hard as the hobs of hell") tree at 100m. A .375 300gn Nosler Partition at the same velocity will thread a 15" gum tree (and punish the shooter).
The whole vid was informative and very well done as always. The last segment....power or lack of it in airguns should be required viewing for all shooters!!! There is a great deal of fantasy in Hollywood. From USA.
Mrs. AAR is a gem! Thanks for the recipe for the Ballistic Gel... Oh yes...and Andy, your review was brilliant mate, with tonnes of good info...and thank you also for all the hard work that goes into your videos, they are very much appreciated! Cheers, Mark
I use the JSB Exact Jumbo in a 12 ft lb rifle with no scope and they are very accurate, but they do over penetrate, always leave an exit wound in mice and rats. I prefer them to leave exit wounds and come out the back because I feed my targets to my cats. So I guess they are good for that, maybe not good if you want expansion and stopping in the target. I used to use Bisley pest control, but I found domed pellets to be more accurate, especially without scope.
I use mostly Accupells for hunting sub 12 but also had good results with Polymags and Hades. FAC I've only ever used Exact Kings but I have slugs to try now.
I love the depth of and scientific manner at which you do your videos . And the lovely helpers you bring in from time to time . Its always nice to see a new face with new facts . Thank you for the information on the ballistics gel , that will help with some of us to do/try some testing on our own . Loved this informative video and the information it holds . "Deeds not words"
As someone just about to get into airguns, the big take away for me is how much effect the brand/type of pellet has on accuracy. Which I would never have thought would be an issue. I suspect knowing that will prevent me buying cheap pellets and then getting frustrated with my inability to produce repeatable shots. Thank you!
Iv always found that gamo air rifles are the best. They hit hard and I didnt have to keep sighting it in. My first one was a gamo big cat .177 cal from wal mart and I paid $150.
@@ford9339 Gamo do make some reasonably decent budget, entry level rifles that can do the job (like the big cat). I am not knocking them as they have a place. However they can not by any means be recommended as the best. The more premium rifles do out class them in every regard although you are going to pay significantly more. A weihrauch HW95 for example is going to provide much better build quality, accuracy and trigger. But if prices are similar in the US the conversation rate puts them at about 585 dollars or £450. If you are on a tight budget the gamo will give a lot of bang for your buck and is very usable. Although you may want to replace the scope when you can for distances over 15-20 meters. If you have a bit more to spend though you will really see the difference with some of the premium rifles. Just a few thoughts for any new shooters who may see this. No offence intended. All the best.
Great Job in keep us update with the different 22caliber pellets. Thank the Ms. for the ballistic gel step by step instructions. Will have to try it. Thanks again
Andy love your vids and you hit the nail on the head...... these are not toys 🧸..... and yes they can still do a lot of damage to a young or old person and I think 🤔 you showed us that. Congrats to MRS A A R on the cookery lesson fantastic.
Great stuff again Andy, I use the JSB Hades through my Air Arms S510 FAC at 33ft/lbs and while it punches straight through most game I shoot, any pellets I have recovered look like the one you have on your FAC board ! Well done to Mrs AAR for the cooking lesson.
Definitely. I tested 24 different pellets for groups, from 20-50 yds, before settling on the AA 16gn as most accurate, second best were Bisley Magnum 21.14gn !! but once the Hades came on the scene I found they shot as good as either of the other two but had better knockdown. Some pellets, H&N Hunter and extreme & RWS just wouldn't group inside a coffee Mug at 40 yds.
ALAN BRAY For accuracy in my rifle they were Alan, but there was nothing to chose between the 16gn and the heavier Bisleys, basically pellet on pellet. I guess you’ll need to try some different ones to find out. They’ll all kill at normal ranges, but you’ve got to hit them in the right place👍🏼
I shoot a .25 caliber Air Force Condor with 26 gr. polymags . . . estimated energy is over 65 foot pounds and they expand like no one's business. Accuracy is quite good but the power is something to behold. I had no trouble shooting through both sides of a metal 55 gallon barrel . . . my point being some pellets like the polymags need the extra speed for accuracy.
Anything but Gamo™Rockets 22.cal I bought a 100ct tin & have repeated defects. Things like the BB tip dislodging, pellets not flattening, pellets bouncing off old carpet used as backstop, etc. These are hunting pellets with advertised "increased penetration" for use with most small game + target competition.
I did the same metal penetration test with my ~15ft/lb Nitro Piston rifle years ago, and was surprised as Heck when it walloped through in one or two shots. Thanks for all the good content, chap
Spot on, first thing is accuracy hands down. I used RWS super mag (flat heads) with a little extra weight, perfect in a sub 12 because it is blunt force trauma, simple! If my old vids under "snypercat" are still on yt you don't see any messing, they are out!
Those hades are awesome. I buy them in packs of 4 tins of 500 online if that says anything. Out of an air venturi avenger bullpup, i can choose which side of a bottle cap to hit at 25 yards. Cooking around 880fps. And at a great price now if bought in 500count tins
I've noticed on RUclips some individuals will shoot three to five shots between groups to make sure each pellet adjusts to the barrel for more uniform group consistency. This could account for the wider groups of the hunters and the extreme 's not performing well in this instance. The JSB Diablo's and the Hadies have basically the same skirts and molds except for the tip which may account for the tightest first groups performances. I am not a professional shooter but have been educating myself in order to make the best selections.
The programme lasting four days, sound good to me, I could watch it all week, and I have been, with the previous shows on offer .... Who'd of guessed that ballistic gel had a bloom rating of 250 ... ?
Great review 👍🏻 i tried loads of different Pellets over the years and still go back to Acupell domed (.22) work perfect in my S410 and Logun S16. Drop a rabbit at 40 metres every time. Love the channel.
Thank you very much, I've been waiting for such an insightful video for a long time! Everything was explained very well, briefly and clearly! Excellent! I immediately left a subscription!
Manufacturers are focused on mass production for USA market. Zinc and other additives are added to facilitate moulding , reduce in transit skirt deformation etc. For sub 12 ft lbs, expansion would occur if a market specific , pure , soft lead were to be used making the pellets more ductile at lower velocities and ballistic coefficients.
Great video. Answered a few burning questions for me. I kept flip flopping about trying the Hades in sub 12ft but will give them a go now. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Your a gent.
Hi Andy I've just found this video, what an eye opener bud especially the car door and the stud wall material, i was genuinely surprised, probably more so by the sub-12fp, i didn't think it would penetrated past the first sheet, Thanks for this shock inspiring ending to the video, it will encourage me to be a little more scientific or as my wife would put it, become a somewhat distructive adolescent child. Much fun to be had in the new year Take care bud, stay safe and keep it lit.👍 my friend.
Very nice tutorial for the Ballistic gel🙂 And VERY good you gave the microwave warning never would have known the toxicity thing..good to know incase it does that for standard jello snacks😲❤
Hi Andy, thanks for a great informative video. The only type of pellet you didnt test is a wadcutter, i know they are supposed to be for target/ competition shooting but would be really interesting to see what sort of penetraition you get with them in the ballistic gell. I suspect that they would probably be more accurate with sub12 rather than 40ftlb as they are designed for less powerfull guns.
As always, a great, informative and thoroughly enjoyably video with a good dash of humour.😊👌 Looking forward to the .177 version. I never tire of your views and opinions be it 5 min or 30mins. Appriciate the length of time these take you (about 2-3 months?) Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you so much for your professionalism and passion on your videos. They provide great help and detailed information. Just what I was looking for!!!
great video as always. the next thing to see is : do the pellets expand at distance, or :what is the minimum footpounds needed for expansion. because when you fire a 40 ftlbs gun, at the end of the trajectory it's the remaining ftlbs that have to do the job of expansion.

Hello from an American in a gun friendly state. I quite like your program, thank you for your time an efforts, nicely organized.
I haven't purchased any kit yet but the reviews from your channel are pointing me in the right direction.. thank you
Mrs. AAR on air is awesome addition to the channel!
A .375 300gn Nosler Partition at the same velocity will thread a 15" gum tree (and punish the shooter).
hands down the best pellet review i have ever seen. great job
DEAR ANDY, A REVIEW ON .20 PELLETS, DON'T THINK IT'S BEEN DONE!! GREAT VID. MICK FROM SURREY.
Thanks Mrs AAR for the exelent recipe :F
The predator pellets in .22 have been a recipe for success in my Diana 350. Accurate and devastating on rabbits etc
Mrs AAR is a natural in front of the camera :) Enjoyed the video Andy ! :)
I have used Crossman pellets for years and they have done me proud . They are called " wadcutters" as they have a flat surface and leave a nice hole .
You and your wife are superb !
Thank you.
Thank God for Mrs AAR!
The gelatin is available on ebay... Just ordered some. Interesting subject, and thanks to the wife for the recipe..
14:21 so that's why South OZ Hobby Hunter uses JSB Hades pellets.
Thanks for the recipe for home made ballistics gel and how to reuse it.
Fantastic vid, thank you
Thank you Mrs AAR, this is very useful and helpful.
The whole vid was informative and very well done as always. The last segment....power or lack of it in airguns should be required viewing for all shooters!!! There is a great deal of fantasy in Hollywood. From USA.
I think you did a great job in the testing! I personally would love to see your test results on a Crossman Premier Piranha .22 cal 14.3 gr. 5.5mm
Thank you Mrs AAR for the gelatin recipe and I look forward to the 177 tests. All the best.
I use mostly Accupells for hunting sub 12 but also had good results with Polymags and Hades.
FAC I've only ever used Exact Kings but I have slugs to try now.
Also in the movies the baddies can't hit the heroe with machine guns but the heroe picks off all the baddies with a pistol! Brilliant.
This review is just a different level than anything else out there 👍🏴
I love the depth of and scientific manner at which you do your videos .
The 30 odd years ago i used to shoot sub 12ft pound air rifle , we found flat target pellets very good for close range
Great Job in keep us update with the different 22caliber pellets. Thank the Ms. for the ballistic gel step by step instructions. Will have to try it. Thanks again
Excellent video. Extremely informative. And I'm going to make my own gel. Thanks to the mrs.
The air arms S410. My go to rifle. I’ve had it for years and it’s amazing
Andy love your vids and you hit the nail on the head...... these are not toys 🧸..... and yes they can still do a lot of damage to a young or old person and I think 🤔 you showed us that. Congrats to MRS A A R on the cookery lesson fantastic.
Well done Mrs. AAR !!!!! Well done !! Xx
Excellent program! Very informative. Thank you very much for sharing on RUclips.
Anything but Gamo™Rockets 22.cal
I bought a 100ct tin & have repeated defects.
Just got my second but first .22 caliber air rifle. Thank you for posting this video.
What do you think about air gun manufacturers putting the pressure gauges near the end of the barrels?
Spot on, first thing is accuracy hands down.
I used RWS super mag (flat heads) with a little extra weight, perfect in a sub 12 because it is blunt force trauma, simple! If my old vids under "snypercat" are still on yt you don't see any messing, they are out!
Those hades are awesome. I buy them in packs of 4 tins of 500 online if that says anything.
Out of an air venturi avenger bullpup, i can choose which side of a bottle cap to hit at 25 yards. Cooking around 880fps. And at a great price now if bought in 500count tins
Thanks Andy and the Misses, very nice video!
One hell of a job. Thank both of you
The programme lasting four days, sound good to me, I could watch it all week, and I have been, with the previous shows on offer .... Who'd of guessed that ballistic gel had a bloom rating of 250 ... ?
Thank you so much for the pellets and the ballistic jell
Great review 👍🏻 i tried loads of different Pellets over the years and still go back to Acupell domed
(.22) work perfect in my S410 and Logun S16. Drop a rabbit at 40 metres every time. Love the channel.
well presented and informative, much quicker than spending a fortune on pellets and days on the range, thank andy & mrs aar.
[and after.finally watched the video through...]
I'd still choose the Hades .22 for my (at some point) upcoming 12lbs .22...
Great video as always. Very thorough and helpful. Superb!
Great video. Answered a few burning questions for me. I kept flip flopping about trying the Hades in sub 12ft but will give them a go now. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Your a gent.
I love that lady..... she's cool as hell.... love your vids bro.We Learn alot.....
Mrs AAR needs to upload this to Rate My Plate! Thanks for your great RUclips channel. I watch every one.
Fantastic! Very informative, and the last few bits about car and wall penetration were "eye opening"!! Cheers!!
Well informative as usual thanks AAR
I've enjoyed all your over videos Andy but this is your best great presentation and informative
Hi Andy
I've just found this video, what an eye opener bud especially the car door and the stud wall material, i was genuinely surprised, probably more so by the sub-12fp, i didn't think it would penetrated past the first sheet,
Thanks for this shock inspiring ending to the video, it will encourage me to be a little more scientific or as my wife would put it, become a somewhat distructive adolescent child.
Much fun to be had in the new year
Take care bud, stay safe and keep it lit.👍 my friend.
Very nice tutorial for the Ballistic gel🙂
And VERY good you gave the microwave warning never would have known the toxicity thing..good to know incase it does that for standard jello snacks😲❤
His voice reminds me of the guy from Discovery Earth, it's pretty awesome in air gun talk lol very professional.
Great reviews. Cheers from sunny Florida
RWS Super H Point for deformation and accuracy. My guns love them.
fantastic. very informative. the wife's a star.
As always, a great, informative and thoroughly enjoyably video with a good dash of humour.😊👌
Looking forward to the .177 version.
I never tire of your views and opinions be it 5 min or 30mins. Appriciate the length of time these take you (about 2-3 months?)
Keep up the great work!!!
Great review as always. Keep up a the awesome work. Thank you.
Once again a great informative video, regards to Mrs AAR
Once again a brilliant watch.....been using RWS Superfield .22 in my HW95.....which Im quite happy with but my next purchase will be exact jumbo diabolo....see for myself what is different.....
This is a great review. Top man Andy
I'm going to have to try this with the RSW hobby Flatheads. Been using them for hunting for a couple years an alway got the job done.
H&N Hornet (.25 cal) works amazingly well from a Benjamin Marauder.
