I use comb when needed as gentle as possible, but I mostly detangle with my fingers.

I do a mix of both. I finger detangle first to make sure there are no knots and gently brush to make sure I get the shed hairs.

I’ll stick with them combs. I tried finger detangling once on my wash day and my wash day lasted over 10 hours.
Since then, I made a decision to never do finger detangling on wash days. However, I do finger detangling when retwisting my old twists

that’s fair enough!!! there are definitely ways around the finger detangling but no one can deny the time commitment even if done over a period

What I have learned to do with my hair is to start with using the pad of my thumb to loosen up the tangles from ends to root. At the root rub gently to detangle. Use products with slip to help detangle with a wide tooth comb that doesn't have seams and tease the tangled hair at the root to loosen the hair and remove the shed hair. Afterwards it becomes easier to comb through. Clipping the ssn and dead ends helps as well.
Daily life makes you have to put your priorities in order for sure 😊
    Thanks for sharing.

Love the back to back uploads!!! I like finger detangling when I’m not protective styling but if I’m getting conrows / braids / a silk press or twists etc I like using a comb to avoid tangles .

I am not about to torture myself with finger detangling.😂 I never bought into it because I hate it when my hair is not fully processed. So I always use combs when I redo my hair once a month. My comb of choice is the metal hair pik because the metal teeth have less friction with my hair and glide through better than the plastic of wide tooth combs. However, I have to be very gentle to minimize breakage. The one thing I will never use is Tangle Teezer-like brushes. That's just asking for trouble.🤭

I used to use a wide tooth comb after finger detangling for years. But a couple of months ago, i ditched the comb and exclusively finger detangle. Its still early to tell the difference yet and sm hoping my length retention will increase. I do love how simplified my routine is with finger detangling😊

I do the hybrid method : I do a basic (quick) finger detangling) and then go in with my unbrush and Felicia Leatherwood brush.
My strands are fine so my hair will get matted if I go longer than 10 days.
I am a healthy hair now, long hair eventually natural.

I don't worry so much about whether my hair is 100% detangled (because it tangles up again almost instantly) my focus is on getting the shed hair out so my hair doesn't loc up. Once there's no more hair coming out in my comb I know that section is done and I move on.
I use the long tooth comb from revair, and I find that using it in conjuction with wet detangling is what works best for me. I do use the denman D38 paddlebrush on occasion, but I feel that using brushes habitually tears up the ends. Mrs Mississippi has a great vid that explains why that can be the case sometimes.

Great tips. I used both finger detangling and at the ends I have trouble separating the hairs, so that's when i bring in a small wide tooth comb. I like to remove as much of the shed hair out as possible since it will tangle my hair terribly if not removed. Thanks for the video.

I have been finger detangling now for a few months. I am really trying because I know this helps a lot with hairgrowth and thickness.
It is true that all the shed hair dont come out. Can that be why our hair looks thicker😂.
These days i am not doing much just in one boring bun without detangling.( Just lazy but feel guilty.)
I am going to do a pŕotective style soon so when i do detangle, i spritz with water first or water mixed with blended aloe. Or pure Aloes. Then it is much easier to finger detangle. Washing my hair i detangle before washing and twist it that makes washday and detangling so much easier. If you continue to be consistent, it will become part of your natural hair routine.

you would need quit abit of shed hairs to see that much thickness coz you do get a good amount out with your hands, just not all…

I have zero choice I have to finger detangle my hair strands are thin fragile and weakened by medications and post menopause. I dont like short hair on me and I dont want to try short hair. I dont do extensions no wigs either. So im pretty stuck wearing my hair in braids (ugly/skinny) or in 2 strand twists (better look but still gappy). Pure stress ... Thinning fine mature hair is not funny. Finger detangling is not funny either wether you have time or not. We as women still have plenty to do plus finger detangling hair. It stresses me out being a natural. I cannot be a short natural either. I need my long hair because thats what I'm used to. Old with short hair. I can't have that for me. My hair was my beauty. It never used to so thin. I cant get it to thicken up. I can get it to grow long. Take down after protective 2 strand twists is a nigbtmare to finger detangle. Take down from braids is a breeze. My braided fine hair looks so wrong. I cant go out to work or a party looking like a gappy head child that needs attention. I can't win gurl @coilydiaries

phewww! you have shared alot and so honest about the struggles you are facing! many of us will have to experience those struggles to fully understand but I think I can relate to some. have you seen my videos on how I stopped detangling my hair and just rotate my twists over a week or so… maybe suing a good quality hair extension just towards the end to add some fullness to your bun? or maybe abit of gel to get a more pulled togather look? I have a video on the pros of less dense hair etc and I hope it will inspire you ❤️❤️❤️
