I am in Africa and I I do my own hair. I help friends and family members too. There is no way I am letting someone else destroy my hair.
Well done
👍🏽
The hair, accessories, glasses and outfit 🔥💯😍
The counting of hair = commitment to science hehe. Very informative, puts things into perspective.
I gave up trying to find people to do my hair. It's so tricky as well because there is no way I'm paying $120 just for 6-8 straight to the back cornrows with no extensions. At the same time, not having the talent nor the time to learn how to do my own hair. The struggle is real out here 🤦🏽♀️
sis!!! you have said it all!!! I thought let me keep hope but nah… disaster! need to stick to styles I can do myself at my own pace
I feel u sis😂
Firstly, I am glad that you're not doing that hair challenge, I thought it was too long. Honestly you need to learn how to cornrow your own hair it is a challenge but its worth it. It took me a long time to learn but its so good I don't need to depend on anyone and I can do them at my own speed.
This isn't a criticism but I would like you to think about it and possibly do a video on it. Why do black women see dealing with their hair as a struggle? I've looked at other ethnities/races and they get on with it with longer super thick hair and with multiple children.
I had that mindset and I had to change my thinking that this is my hair what I was born with, I can manage it as it is all I've known. Since changing my mindset looking after my hair is joyful and a wonderful experience.
I see where you are coming from. I don’t have a mindset that my hair is a struggle. it IS a struggle at this very moment in my life. doesn’t mean am negative, am realistic and sharing the raw process to getting to my ideal routine. other races don’t have textured hair to my extent and can literally shampoo and step out. I can’t. things have been put into perspective since motherhood and I adore my strands but simply can’t commit the same time as I did before being mama. I have a video on this already recorded and have done similar ones in the past. A mindset is not reality for me. it’s important to have a positive attitude yes but accepting reality also helps us find ground breaking solutions. great idea for a video discussion. 🙏🏽🥰
@@CoilyDiaries I watched a video by ms mississippi where she relays a conversation where she spoke to a white woman about hair and it's an eye opener. I can't put the link in as I know yt will remove it. If you get a chance do try to watch it.
@@LivingInTheShade what is the title?
@@CoilyDiariesit's entitled: white lady told me her natural hair care secret
@@LivingInTheShade on it!
Love that yellow top!!
😮 Just because someone can do their own hair doesn't mean they can do another person's hair. 😬
Maybe the longer the hair gets the shorter the period for the protective styles has to be 🤔
I honestly find flat twists to be trickier than cornrows. It's definitely an art to make them look neat and pretty.
Great points!
The struggle bus keeps rolling along in these natural textured hair streets 😞😅.
I feel for ya, Pi. The struggle is real 😔
Keeping it simple is the best advice I've been given including with taking care of my hair.
(I think the mental burden is the term "challenge" which can put more stress on you than necessary 🤔)
When deciding to add hair for protective styles you do have to calculate the cost, time and energy it will take to install and take down and detangle the hair after removal. That's one of the reasons why I personally choose not to add hair for protective styles.
But,to each her own.
Whatever you choose to do with your hair do like the song says "Don't worry. Be happy"
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾💐💜😀🎉
Cute top on you,CD. Love the color on you. Your melanin was poppin' 😄
great advise my beautiful! I promise I will settle into a style/routine soon
Im sorry but i laughed when i saw the weave with the bump... It was bumping 😂😂😂. So sorry you had that experience and good to know im not the only one thats had such an experience. Thanks for taking us on this journey
🤣🤣🤣 girl it was a disaster!!!
Long hair is another level..I can imagine how difficult it can be to handle let alone to leave someone who is inexperience deal with your hair. Not everyone can handle long hair.
I dont go to stylist anymore because when you tell them you need to do this or that they say the opposite 😢. You need to either invest in learning to do your own hair a find a professional who know how to deal with natural hair.
This lady: newgrowthnaturals have her own natural hair salon where she help other naturals grow their own hair. She is specialized in alopecia ect. Today self 23 June she has a hairshow where she lives in Cayman islands. ( caribbean) check her out. I am not consistently busy with aggressive hair challenge but my hair is so in need of protective style at the moment.
Appreciate your suggestions. My issue is that there simply is isn’t anyone that does natural hair where I live. Second, I wish I had learnt how to braid or cornrow before motherhood. It simply can’t happen now. That’s why the twisted natural lifestyle worked so well for me. I can do my own hair at my own pace etc. only thing was the time commitment and limited styling options. I’ll soon find my routine
@CoilyDairies Heyyyy! Don't say you can't 😊you can! It is a choice to learn something new. You can practice on a doll head then on your hair with a small row of hair like a leave out until you get it. It's easier with blown out hair. Please know hard things aren't impossible things it's just choices and small steps at a time. By next year you'll be a braiding queen if you put in a little time now often. Practice 10 minutes every three days.... you can do it! ❤🙏🏾❤️
@@ourhannahshouse I actually can’t. I have spoken about how time is very rare to come by for me at the moment. So when I have 2 minutes old rather sleep or rest etc. maybe when my kid is older
@CoilyDiaries I understand the frustration but I know you will get it worked out. Do now what is best for you and think about what your next plan will be in the mean time.
@CoilyDiaries Girl, I get it!! 😅 I didn’t learn how to cornrow my hair till my daughter was 4 years old. I had to watch several RUclips videos until I found the lady who explained it in a way that I finally understood!! But let me tell you, when I got it, I was ecstatic! 😆 Lol!
I love your look with the glasses 🥰
thanks lovely 🥰
WOW! Your shed hair over 2 weeks was quite minimal.
I've never considered counting the strands though 😅
Do you still have that ball of shed hair from the take down you did after the mini twists to compare over a longer period?
PS: Your current style is still a protective style since your stands are together and your ends are tucked away so you're still on track for the year 😌
No I got rid of it. I know this is significantly less than the take down hair and the time frames were different so a comparison wouldn’t be accurate. This style I only wore for a week so didn’t really count it but you are right, my hair was still protected since I was wearing the plats anyway
Thanks for taking us on your journey! 🌸 I don’t think a year long challenge is too much. I think you just had to pivot because you changed your mind regarding how much time you wanted to spend on your hair, considering everything else you have going on. 😅 That’s understandable. And like you said, the hiccup with the sew-in, the challenge you had with the look of the plaits, etc., things just didn’t go as planned. I’m of the opinion that as long as you don’t lose length, especially when hiccups happen, that’s still a win! And your shedding looks just fine, nothing at all to inquire about, in my opinion. 💜
great points actually… appreciate your perspective
Love the look 🥰💕. Haaha! When you counted the hair, I understood the glasses meant business😅. I've learned something new about shedding
😜😜😜 serious clinging business
Another great vid. Thanks for always bringing us along on your journey. I empathize with the mental exhaustion associated the question, “what should I do next?” I’m in that position right now with the newly added challenge of avoiding toxic synthetic hair and questioning why/how comfortable I am with wearing other people’s hair (aka human hair) when it’s a not a medical necessity.
Have you thought about mini braids w/ your own hair?
great thought provoking questions there! mini braids would be great for length retention but don’t fancy their look and time required to instal and remove 😳
Thank you ❤ x
You’re welcome 😊
I still have my hair in cornrows. I decided to keep them in for 2 months instead of 3. I take them down in 4 days. I have an inch of growth so far. I'm not looking forward to the takedown, but I'm hoping to retain the length. 🤞🏾😅
Thanks for sharing!! you’ve got this!
When you count your shed hair, check for bulbs at the end. Shed hair will have bulbs, no bulb mostly means it's breakage😢
define shedded hair as they had the white bulb
Very little shedding!, i think it's going great. Sory the braider didn't work out, that has to be frustrating. Keep looking there got to be someone there who can your hair the way you'll like it. Good luck.
Thanks gorgeous 🥰
@@CoilyDiaries 😘
I get box mini braids (no extensions) professionally done and I love how they look, and I can style them any way I want. Your hair is longer than mine. I KNOW you would look so nice with the box minis. I can keep them for 2 months (depending on growth). Right now I’m leaving them in for 3 months. The minis help with tangling too. I don’t think you’re loosing an excessive amount of hair.
braids are excellent for length retention but not my preferred look and the time investment to install and remove 😳
Mine's going slowly. I've got really short hair so it's growing very slowly at the moment 😢x
Keep at it. You will get there ❤️
❤❤❤❤
🥰🥰🥰
I think my hair does better when I cool blow dry my roots before I braid them at the roots and twist the ends
Nice technique 🥰
Do you use Chebe? What do you think of it?
No I don’t. Many have found success with it but I just think it’s not a magic product. We still have to implement length retention practices
@@CoilyDiaries Ahh ok interesting. I did try a Chebe butter once and didn't notice anything special either
any moisturizer products recommendations?? I used grease for like three years and it helped me retain length from neck to waist length but after a while, my hair broke off and the grease damage my hair texture to be mushy so I’m back at natural products
so sorry about the setback. all my product recommendations are in my description
@ModelingTabi. Wow! I’ve never heard of grease damaging hair, especially after helping to retain so much length. If you don’t mind me asking, which one were you using?
@@A_Wilson sure, it’s Dax hemp oil one. I kept my regimen very simple. I was using joico moisture shampoo and balm. using a moisturizer and then sealing with the Dax. keep my hair braided in mini braids and washed and redid the same thing over. I started noticing some breakage around the crown but didn’t pay much mind to it. but then over the years, I realized that my hair was getting too soft. so I switched shampoos thinking maybe since the joico has silicones, I was not really deep cleansing. so I started using ion sulfate shampoo. for months until I realize it also had silicone 😔 I tried to put castor oil on my scalp only to grow it back but the breakage increased. I stopped using the joico balm and the moisturizer thinking that may be it. my now my hair is too soft no matter what shampoo I use. I even used the sulfur 8 shampoo. I switch grease to palmers oil olive oil and was just doing water and that grease. when I wash my hair, my hair feels like paper. it’s sad because I loved keeping my regimen simple and retained all my length.
@ModelingTabi. I hate to hear it. But looking at what you described, it sounds like you may could use a protein treatment. Have you tried that? It sounds like your strands need to be strengthened. Aphogee 2 step treatment may help. If you’re looking for something natural, henna is the one! It will strengthen your strands on the very first use.
@@A_Wilson thank you:) I tried aphogee 2 steps but did not help. my hair doesn’t really respond to aphogee but I bought nexxus emergence and should come Tuesday. I pray that works
lol this 18 minutes advertisement is very interesting. Maybe you'll get paid more because of me 😂
what 18 mins??
@@CoilyDiaries the videos that shows in between your video.
2:30 You're going to do a video on corporate capitalism? 😉
ahhaha no😅
Sorry your challenge didn't work out like you wanted. It's definitely a struggle, finding a braider or a stylist to handle your hair like you would.
@@LoveNLegacy thanks sis. Appreciate it ❤️
