This is the latest-generation Land Rover Defender like you’ve never seen it before.
The eight-seat, 5.3-metre-long 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 has landed in Australia bringing eight seats and a lot more space, without losing any of its inherent refinement or (much) off-road capability.
But towing capacity is down, the rear-end design is polarising and the price premium is hefty. So how does the Defender 130 stand up to the toughest assignment of them all - the family test?
Sam Charlwood jumped behind the wheel of the ‘entry-level’ Defender 130 SE D300 to find out.

Beautuful properties, anyone knows where is the test drive happening?
Does land rover defender can be manufactured with a five seater on the 130 series and manual transmission instead of automatic transmission with a v8 diesel engines..
do the seats all fold flat?
wish it came in a 2row for us who have no need .want or will ever use a 3rd row , I want payload pacing space and towing
I’m pretty sure that it actually comes standard as a 5 seater in Australia
And u pick the Row 3 seat option, if u want it.
As a 5 seater, it gives big cargo area etc.
Would be a fantastic overlanding vehicle…
Why would you not want a 3 row SUV that can fold the 3rd row down? Genuinely curious.
@@eriktenhag2022 why have something you don't need or will ever use I want extra cargo space under the floor and more payload and towing with out the 3rd row
Theres many reasons i didnt see one Land rover when i went to fraser island recently…
Good for you! Did you only go to see if there were any Land Rovers lol ?
Impressive car. Though the cost and luxury of these new Defenders make you wonder what the point of the Discovery is anymore? Old Defender owners on farms or into 4wd and touring will probably go Toyota 79.
Yeah, I agree. They are definitely more expensive than the old Defenders and the Discovery is still a great car. But I think the Toyota 79 is a great option for those who want something reliable and affordable.
Nah, if they're got any scruples about them they'll be opting for the new Ineous range of original defender look-a-likes.
More featured than Toyota, more power, more comfort yet in same price range and possibly less delay in supply.
A savey chap would totally opt for a Mahindra, so many die hard Toyota 70 series owners seeing the light of day and cancelling lengthy overpriced orders and loving their new Mahindra's.
Station Owner in Qld won't buy another Toyota after buying a Mahindra.
Local tradie not buying anymore after he opted for just one initial Mahindra, he & his staff just love it.
Pity Defender dropped their true utility design, but ha, the new defender is becoming a legend in its own right.
It's an awesome feature packed Supa capable comfy 4X4. I'd only opt into a 110 though as 130 has too much overhang for serious offroading.
@@iamavaenergyThe days of Toyota’s being reliable are long gone, the cannot build a dpf system or a decent air box to save themselves.
Nice car
Sam,
Based on its GVM & GCM, this vehicle would easily manage the weight of 8 people
650 nm should see to that !
🤷🏻♂️
The 110 model, does not have a lot of leg room, with the option of Row 3 seating, for anyone other then children, when using the Row 3 seats.
Teenagers / adults can fit here, but, short trips only.
The extra rear length, of the 130 model, adds much more room for anyone in Row 3.
As a regular 7 seat usage vehicle, it makes a lot of sense.
Teenagers & Adults can easily fit in Row 3.
I’m pretty sure that the 130 model comes standard in Australia, as a 5 seater.
U pick the Row 3 option, if u want it.
As a 5 seater, u get huge cargo room, with a flat floor.
It would be a fantastic vehicle for overlanding etc.
Set up the cargo area to suit your specific requirements, with a fridge etc
Yes, that sounds right.
With a 700kg carry weight that’s the equivalent of 7 x 100kg adults. Or 5 adults and 3 kids on average without gear. Ad a roof rack and bull bar and you’ll reduce the passenger load. So be careful not to overload the 700kg limit otherwise you’ll loose your insurance cover
Looks like an american Lincoln navigator already.. weird 😅
122k to 240 k.......what a joke
No
Ну подарите мне его...😪 И я его испытаю в России...🙂
