Most of these issues are due to the spec of this Defender. Interior storage without a jump seat is phenomenal, actually best in class. Also the jump seat is cliché and unnecessary in a regular consumer model, the vehicle is much better without that option plus you can get a mini-fridge in the center console! Sure its a tall vehicle and fuel economy is not great, I even lifted mine and put 33" tires on it so both points are exacerbated... but the Defender is LR's boxy off roader so these things are kind of expected?? It seams this this guy would be better suited by a minivan rather than an off road oriented SUV.
A CORRECTION: John does make one error in this clip when referring to 40MPH limits. The 40MPH limit is ONLY applicable to Scotland whereas the rest of the U.K. has a limit of 50MPH on single carriageways. To confirm: the Land Rover Defender Hardtop is taxed as a N1 Commercial. The limits do not apply to non commercial car versions of the Defender.
Fear not my Aussie friend, we’ll have a follow up video coming very soon with “10 Things I LOVE about the Defender 110” - and we hope you’ll enjoy that one even more.
@@driven.videos I'm sure I will! The only issue I've had with mine was that the posh lady who lives in mine refused to respond to my voice commands...she's a bit superior and I'm just a colonial.
As a general conclusion, you bought the wrong Defender. With a normal 110 model, you didn't have any of the mentioned problems. I don't understand why someone who buys something they don't need needs to make a video about it.
yeah... okay, again, the humorous aspect of this video seems to have missed a few people. Don't worry, you're not alone, there will be a follow up video explaining all the things we love too!
I had Disco 5 commercial and removed the bulkhead which allowed easier access and also allowed long lengths of timber to be straight-through loaded. Thanks for heads up on speed limit thang!… not good when it’s way to do 80mph in comfort 😜
Hullo, thanks for your review of the new Defender. It has been very helpful in making me decide that I will hang on to my, comparably agricultural, 2010 Defender 110 station wagon, until it dies (hopefuly years from now).
It’s not a van, more like a Truck! Mine is super high off the ground, with a 1.5 inch suspension lift so I can add the 33 BFG’s. It’s a beast offroad, Love it with over 24K miles and spec’s to my liking. Super comfy to drive, perhaps you need to change vehicles.
Does it have any electrical problem or any such dangerous or scary problem ? Planning to book hence the question.. i am getting lot of bad reviews on electronics, battery. Is that true?
46mpg to 50mpg - Out of a 3litre? Not in my experience - 40mpg if you drive like Miss Daisy, low 30's otherwise and sub 25mpg if worked. 29mpg seems pretty reasonable to me. The very much less powerful and quite considerably lighter old Defender in 2.2 Tdci form struggles to average 26mpg and that I suspect is at a lower average speed.
The engine is awesome, l've got a D250 3.0 Commercial and it was the engine that sold it to me, 600Nm torque at 1,400 rpm MPG in local driving is around 25. On a run l can get 40mpg, no more
Correct. 46-50mpg is only in your dreams. I have a L461 RRS D300 and that is averaging around 34mpg which I consider to be pretty good. 29mpg is very acceptable considering the Defender has the aerodynamics of a house brick
Loads of front storage with central console. Jump seat is a silly option (and I have a 90). High is no issue with air suspension, it lowers for access, also a step is essential for rear access for a 90, Mirrors are fine on a 90, with no blind spots, unless you have a silly external shoe box, proximity sensors are not too bad, I drive in snow up to a meter regularly, i live in the Alps. Speed limiter, can be switched off. Bottom line, don't buy a commercial for use as a private car, ref space, rules of the road etc etc. agree with number 8 ref hazard lights. Auto dipping lights dont pose a problem. My D250, gets me about 35 mpg. And 10 is correct, but JLR are doing their best to improve security. But let's be honest when you have a hot property it's going to attract attention. I was a Land cruiser fanatic before the New Defender, not any more, the combination of Range Rover comfort on the road and the ability to tackle 23% gradients in deep snow is unstoppable. Not biased, as have had JLR failures in the past, but for someone who really needs this type of vehicle. This is the best on the market.
@@oldcargeezer That is the problem, that yes. Before driving it I was idealizing this car and tbh I was ready to buy it. After I compared it with a few other competitotrs, of course not so off-roady, but more comfortable for the day-to-day driving I realized, that to my opinion, an asked price for Defender is too much. I was very disappointed about the shrinked size of the trunk in the plugin hybrid version. The noise from the side-mirrors on the speed above 50mph. Not comfortable seats for the long trips (comparing with Volvo or Range Rover). Also, the hybrid battery capacity is very small. Ah, and the windshield was catching all the rocks on the highway. And even during the 1st ride attempt the infotainment system was glitching. I still love this car and if I would need to buy a 2nd family car - perhaps I would choose this one. But for the daily communiting and also for the long family trips - unfortunately, this is not the best suitable car for its price.
I went out of my way to find a landrover 110 hardtop very rare in Australia and I absoloutely love it and its plain white,Very handy with only my wife and I ,brilliant offroad.Stop wingeing mate,Just start thinking about people who cant afford anything close to these.
i think the adaptive cruise is very jerky on one bar proximity [practically drive into person in front and very slow to get going from stop] and the 360 camera system is gimmicky and actually rubbish in conventional view due to the fish eye view
My 2022 Defender 90 rides great and it doesn't even have the air suspension. l also call BS on the "bucking bronco" comments. Oh, and the 90 doesn't ride as well as the 110
You’ve bought a Land Rover and you’re complaining about the access height? The very same height that allowed the car to wade at the start of the video. Just buy a Porsche if you want it close to the ground.
If you get some water you know the gear boxes down below that you were supposed to revise and fix---- get some water in one of those or any of them go back to the bank because they're gonna need a lot of shekels to fix what you just broke--- some gear heads think there the snorkels enough but it's not.
Indeed...also include the fish eye camera views which make you think you are drunk and are no use at all in the dark...just a blurry hazy confusing mess.......a very insensitive lane departure warning system which only does anything when you are practically in the other lane!....and the icing on the cake is the adaptive cruise control with tortoise like departure speed and extremely late stopping so it is doing an emergency stop every time a car slows in front of it...overall the driving technology is rough and ready and very disappointing for such an expensive vehicle...landrover need to have a look at other brands which are far superior at much lower prices in this area.....I feel like I am riding a bucking bronco on speed!...poor
