I think you kind of missed the design philosophy of the expert badges. Yes they make the game harder, but they also provide a major boon at the same time; jet run gives you speed, spring feet gives you higher jumps, and invisibility is self-explanatory. They’re not solely designed to be self-imposed challenges

    • @Navman_
      @Navman_ 7 месяцев назад +26

I think what makes a badge an expert badge is its permanency. Regardless of whether you're spring hopping, invisible, jet running or have the last badge (don't want to spoil it for people who don't want it spoiled), they're always active at all times

Nah the side benefit should be you instantly killing any enemy in one hit too. So you can die in one hit, but you can also kill any enemy in one hit, even bosses. I think that would make it an expert badge, I don’t like how NB made all the expert badges have no benefits, it makes them useless to wear. Every badge in wonder has a use, even invisibility with how enemy’s can’t see you. So I think that every expert badge should have a use

    • @AK_804
      @AK_804 7 месяцев назад

      no its a expert badge

    • @justragnar8667
      @justragnar8667 7 месяцев назад +4

@@AK_804 All the other expert badges (except sound off but that has no negative effects either) have some benefits to their drawbacks. Jet Run makes levels faster and lets you skip certain parts at the cost of your ability to control your movement, spring feet is honestly Jet run but worse, but it still can be useful in some specific scenarios. Invisibility is a double edged sword, though it is also not as useful as Jet run. Expert badges are double edged swords. There should be a risk and a reward. Why add risk without reward, and why add reward without risk?

Wonder Curse: Has every Level automatically activate it's Wonder Effect (May Require Level Design Changes)

I think that the pick up and throw one is an expert badge, since it changes the whole move set rather than adding a move like the rest of the action badges. Some of my Badge Ideas
    Action Badges:
    Mega Pound
Ground Pound and as you fall you pick up momentum and be able to perform a super pound, capable of breaking all blocks regardless of power up, this also creates a shock wave that knocks enemies back.
    Wall Scurry
As you dash, when you pick up max speed you can run up walls and you can even wall jump to other walls to run up them as well.
    Boost Badges:
    Double Slots
You can keep up to 2 item slots in a given stage, when you beat the stage you use that item slot though.
    Koopa Kall
For 50 Purple Coins you can summon a Koopa Shell at any time to use.
    Sensor 3.0
Aside from the stuff picked up by Seonsor 2.0, you can also sense hidden character blocks, even if they aren't your character.
    Expert Badges
    Friend to Foe
All player shadows now harm you, if you have player shadows disabled then cosmic mario will chase you through the level.
    Mummy Mii
When you kill an enemy you spawn a Mummy Mii in its place that will chase you down, so now you need to prioritize killing as least enemies as possible.
    Gold Fever
You are slowly losing health and the only way to heal is to gain Coins
    Airship assault
The Airship Wonder Effect will be active for all stages
    Silver Stars
5 Hidden Silver stars are hidden in the stage, and you have to find them to unlock the goal.

      @vanillajellyfish 7 месяцев назад +2

I remember seeing that "hard mode" in Newer Wii, but i heard it was a rushed and untested mess since it forced the level timer to start at 250 seconds, which caused some of the longer levels to take a guarenteed death or 2 to beat to start from checkpoints

Some really cool ideas here! Just one complaint with the expert badge concepts though - most of the expert badges in the game all have some sort of benefit of them instead of being exclusively downgrades. (Spring feet gives you higher jumps, Jet-run gives you faster speed and that midair jump window, Invisibility makes you undetectable to enemies.) Maybe those could be worked in to these expert badges as well, like the OHKO badge making enemies weaker as well.

Remember the "Add ! Blocks ⏹️ ", a support badge that spawns blocks in the level that can be helpful in various ways?
Let make the complete opposite of this, the "Add Danger Blocks" 🟥 , which spawns blocks that can cause numerous harmful effects and will ALWAYS activate the moment you see it on screen (depending on theirs purposes)!
    1) Block off some areas/blocks/green flower pods/etc. of the level which make navigating it harder.
    2) Spawn tough enemies/obstacles, even those that normally doesn't appear in certain levels.
2a) Danger blocks could act as enemy generators that could get annoying.
    3) Spawn red flower pods (not green) that could change about everything. Ideas like:
    3a) Rising the lava level.
    3b) Removing various platforms.
3c) Removing helpful enemies/"obstacles" like Lakitu (no more clouds) and pipes (like the ones that generate mushrooms).
3d) Gives the level itself an additional harmful effect. Go crazy with your imagination on this.
I feel like the "Add Danger Blocks" would be a PERFECT expert badge. Pretty much gives every level a hard mode.

Expert badge - No More Power-Ups:
Basically, all power-ups turn into coins.
    Boost badge - Power-Up Randomizer:
This makes every power-up random. For example, an Elephant Fruit can be a Drill Shroom, and etc.

Screen Flip - Basically the screen gets flipped and with that badge equipped, you play the whole level that way with its inverted controls.

    Action:
Long jump badge - crouching and jumping lets you jump horizontally at a great distance
Disguise badge - While walking or power walking (not holding Y button) don't get damaged by enemies. Can still get hurt by overworld traps and spikes.
    Boost:
More purple coins - a 300 cost badge that spawns more purple coins and the 25% of the mini purple coins become medium coins.
Star badge - a 999 cost badge that converts all power ups to stars. Star power ups last x2 longer
    Expert:
Always mini badge - power ups don't work. they grant 5 purple coins however.
Greedy badge - the more gold coins you have the slower/heavier you become. there are 25% less coins in the overworld.
    Goofy:
Chatterbox badge- a flower replaces prince florian and comments on everything you do.
Pixel badge - playable characters are 8/16 bit

I think you kinda missed the point of the expert badges, they're supposed to be overpowered badges but with a huge drawback:
You get super speed, but you run forever
You can jump really high, but you're always jumping
Enemies can't see you, but neither can you
So making the expert badges only have bad effects kinda isn't what nintendo was going for

I have one problem with your Expert Badge ideas. All ingame Expert Badges have a benefit with a trade off. Jet Run allows you to jump midair, but you always run. Spring Feet allows you higher jumps, but you always jump. As such, here’s upsides for all your Expert Badges.
Blue Shell: It’s a bit too much like Jet Run, but anyways, it acts exactly like Blue Shell. You harm anything you touch, and you bounce off walls. It’s harder to control than Jet Run, and you lack the midair jump, but you can run through Goombas and such.
Living Off Coins: All Purple Coin amounts are doubled, to make up for the eventual death.
OhKo: All coin amounts are tripled, to make up for being one hit.
Poisonous Takeover: You respawn in the stage appropriate powerup state, so you can still have Powerups.
The Sprained Knee: Jumping off enemies is better than normal.
Gravity Shifter: Actually don’t really need to change this, ceilings don’t have many dangers after all.
Chatter Box: It’s a joke, so it shares benefits and downsides with Sound Off.

    Annother Expert Badge idea:
Getting hit always makes you little and you no longer have an item inventory. In exchange, item boxes always give you the item of the level as if you were big.
    And another one:
Any item you consume counts as a mushroom. In exchange, you gain an additional inventory slot.

    (1) Sensor badge: Recommend instead of just sensing secret exits, instead senses secret exits, hidden blocks, and talking flowers that hasn't been interacted with.
    Ideas:
    (1) Coin multiplier: Doubles value of all coins. Basic, does what it says.
    (2) No knockback: Player doesn't get knocked back or flinched on hit.
    (3) Spike Shield: Spikes doesn't deal damage (you still get invulnerability frames) the first time you touch them
    (4) Wonder coins: Get a shower of coins every time you trigger 'Wonder' in a combo.

For an expert badge, this one might be difficult to make though "The no color badge - You can't touch a color for 2 minutes and the color changes after 2 minutes also PREVENT DYING" Now, the person your being has to progress in the level so they can't stand still or shift left and right they actually will have to move. The color will change if you die to make it actually possible and if there isn't the color in the level that color won't be selected as a random color to make the challenge more interesting. Also there will be a timer on the top to indicate how much time you have left and if you die the timer will increase 2-3 minutes and if you leave a level the timer will still stay increased
Another expert badge: "The no coin badge - if you touch a coin, you die" this expert badge is very simple basically if you touch any type of coin rather it's yellow or purple (big and small all count since they are still coins) you will die.
3rd challenge badge idea: "The speed legend" - Screen speed fast and no check points allowed - For this one the screen will move fast (like around the same speed as the rabbit speed from mario maker 2/maybe a little bit faster) and you're not allowed to have any checkpoints, if you get one, it will just spawn you to the start if you die
A silly 'expert' badge idea (this is more of a badge idea though I can see it being counted as one): "Combine expert badges" - basically, you can combine any expert badge (no limit, can only combine expert badges) and make the game more challenging!

    Action Badges:
    (1) Ground pound jump is just timed jump with extra steps.
    (2) Instead of making pickups be dependant on enemy size, instead use the existing logic of elephant mario being able to pick up large objects/enemies.
    Ideas:
    (1) Hide: Mario ducks behind a bush. While behind a bush, mario is undetectable and unhittable to most regular attacks. Basically the same thing as guarding with related powerups in kirby games, and already sort of in the game thanks to goombas being able to hide behind certain landscape objects.
    (2) Power Throw: While holding an object, holding down the R button brings up an aiming reticle similar to yoshi games. Objects will be thrown in the reticle's direction on release with extra power. This also works when using fireball (directional hadoken) and when elephant mario has water in his trunk (water hose with knockback). When using yoshi, this also works with objects in mouth
    (3) Fludd: Mario gains a Fludd. Water is filled at start of stage, checkpoints, and anywhere with water. Extended moveset with fludd while water tank has water using R button. (hover in air, water slide while running, water spray ala elephant mario while standing still)
    (4) Piggyback: Players can now carry each other. And yes, up to a stack of 4.
    (5) "Helping Hand": Players can now pick each other up.

I guess I’ll give my thoughts on each one:
    * Coin Throw: Cool idea, but I think making it cost flower coins is too expensive given that Fire Flowers exist. Someone else commented that perhaps this attack should cost regular coins instead, and I agree with that.
    * Slide Kick, Ground Pound Jump, Dive: No negative feedback here. These seem like good additions to Mario Wonder’s movement badge collection.
    * Dash, Shoulder Bash: I don’t know about these ones. Those moves work great for Celeste and Wario Land, but the dash and bash just don’t feel like they fit with Mario’s gameplay. Maybe the shoulder bash could work, but the Celeste dash really feels unfitting.
    * Pick ‘Em Up: Yeah, I agree with @YoSolo7 on this one, this one would be an Expert Badge.
    * Super Jump Punch: I’m not sure if this one fits Mario Wonder’s style, but I think it would still work.
    * Florian: Could use a better name. Perhaps “Caterpillar Catapult”?
    * Flower Power: Does the 3-fireball limit mean “you only get three flower fireballs per level” or “he can have three fireballs on screen at once” (as opposed to the Fire Flower’s limit of two)? If the former, I don’t see why the limit is needed. I would assume you can’t wall-jump while holding the Talking Flower, and I think that’s trade off enough. I like this badge, and it definitely fits in with the wackiness of Mario Wonder.
    * Shield: Great idea for a Boost Badge. Simple but useful.
    * The Midas Touch: This could easily apply to all brick blocks, even in levels that rely on them, if it was an Expert Badge.
    * Sensor 2.0: Unnecessary. I feel like the point of secret exits is that they’re meant to be pretty hidden, and I was able to find them all anyway without the Sensor Badge.
    * Sleepy Time: This one feels unbalanced. It would make some levels way too easy and others way too hard. Also, how would enemies attack more aggressively than usual?
    * Auto-Cape: This one would fit nicely with Mario Wonder’s existing Boost Badges (it feels similar to the Safety Jump badge).
    * Purple Coin Sacrifice: 50% is way too steep a price. There are things in this game that cost 300 Flower Coins, losing 50% on death from this badge is a way bigger cost than the benefit of respawning where you died. The cost should be something static, like 10 or 20 Flower Coins. Also, what if you die over lava? Does it respawn you on the most recently-touched ground? What if that ground has moved, like in the Wavy Magma Ride level?
    * Mind Control: Sufficiently wacky, though I don’t know how it would work.
    * Color Power: Also sufficiently wacky, though it doesn’t feel like something Nintendo would add.
As other commenters have pointed out, Expert Badges are supposed to be tradeoffs, not purely negative.
    * Blue Shell: This one’s great, though perhaps it has too much overlap with Jet Run.
    * Living Off Coins: Great idea, though I think 20 coins might be too low of a cap. To give this one a benefit, maybe make it so any coins collected when you’re at the cap become flower coins instead?
    * OHKO: Yeah, you’re probably right when you saw Nintendo wouldn’t add this.
    * Poisonous Takeover: The problem with having power-ups turn into the Poison Mushrooms is that you could just choose to not hit blocks that give power-ups. Maybe make it so one Poison Mushroom spawns at the start of the level (and another one can spawn if the first one is off-screen for too long), and to give it a benefit, perhaps small enemies that the Poison Mushroom touches are killed by it?
    * The Sprained Knee: I’m not sure how to give this one a benefit…
    * Gravity Shifter: This is a little overkill for a badge. Flipping gravity when you jump would be an excellent Wonder Flower effect, though.
    * Chatter Box: I can’t really give an opinion on this one

I would say that you could switch the "pick em up", "sleepy time", and "mind control" badges to be expert badges, since I feel they better fit the description of expert badges, as they change the way you play the game like some of the other expert badges, especially the "pick em up" badge since you can't kill enemies normally and could use certain enemies to skip a few segments.

The gravity badge could become the flipping screen badge jump and the screen flips!
If not then you might just have to find some blocks to stand on but this would make towers easy that way.
Over powered badges only can be used a few times in the level.
Complete movies can be performed with the complete move badge, perform moves like hat tricks, B-up, triple jumps and if you are near bosses and find a secret hidden item within that level you can perform the final smash! Lowers every boss to 50% hp very hidden though.
Double damage badge just like Lost levels and Japans SMB one hit back to tiny Mario.
Another cool idea for Nintendo but they might not like it, a mod finding system to help fans find safe and cool mod’s to use and even unlock!

For your first badge; Purple coins already have a use, you should throw regular coins. Maybe with the badge equipped, your coin maximum increases to like 200, and only gives you the life/lives you earned from coins after touching the flag pole.
Expert Badge, Coin Health: You don't lose your power ups when hit, but instead have health. Getting a power up heals 1 health, you have 3 max health as small mario, 6 as super mushroom, and 9 with a power up. You lose (yellow) coins constantly, losing them quicker with more coins. When at 0 coins, instead of losing coins you start losing health at 1 per second.
Expert Badge, Deadly Gold: Touching a coin makes you take damage, including purple coins. Removes undodgable coins.
Expert Badge, No Going Back: You can't go left.
Expert Badge, Need Glasses?: Has a darkness effect, like the mario maker ghost house's night time. It's openned up a bit more, but around the edges is blurry.
Expert Badge, Wonderful Words: During the wonder effect, the talking flowers come to life and attack you by speaking, with their words acting as attacks.
Expert Badge, Sin of Greed: The end goalpost only opens up if you've collected every coin in the level. You die instantly if a coin falls into a pit, despawns, or gets eaten (lol)
Expert Badge: Sound Off: Turns off all of the sounds.
Action Badge, Parry: You can parry attacks, stunning you for a short while during the animation, but if any enemy runs into you, you kick them away.
Action Badge, Hoverring: You can hold in jump in the air to hover for a short while.
Boost? Badge, Ice Flower: Fire Flowers are replaced with ice flowers.
Boost Badge, Catching my Breath: Longer invincibility frames.
Boost Badge, Purple Bubbles: The bubble flower's bubbles turn things into purple coins rather than yellow coins.
Also, a new type of badge, Wonderful Badges, where they basically replicate some wonder effects, like the speed up, slow down, or other ones that could work with most levels.

My thoughts on all these badge ideas.
    *Action Badges*
Throw Coins - I feel like the Fire Flower can make this one redundant (but I also wouldn't use it because of my neurotic preferences)
Slide Kick - Maybe, but it'd be hard to justify giving up a more practical badge in favor of this one
Ground Pound Jump - Crouching High Jump makes this one feel fairly redundant
    Dash - Pretty solid choice
Pick 'em up - Pretty solid choice
Shoulder Bash - Might be interesting. Especially if it could count as a hit on a boss
Super Jump Punch - I think the Boosted Spinning Jump badge *might* make this one redundant
Dive - I could see this one being nifty, though it seems kinda similar to the Dash Badge
Florian - I have to wonder what he'd prioritize.
Flower Power - Doesn't feel like it'd be that effective. Comical, but I hardly see it actually being practical
    *Boost Badges*
Shield - Could see being practical
Midas Touch - Walking P Switch? That could be interesting
Sensor 2.0 - And I thought Ground Pound Jump was redundant
Sleepy Time - If you wanted to do a pacifist run, sure
Auto Cape - That could be useful. Especially for beginner players or game journalists
Purple Coin Sacrifice - Considering we already have checkpoints (and to a lesser extent, Standees) I feel like this is way too pricy for what it's worth
Mind Control - Impractical, but certainly amusing. Like Ghost Kirby from Squeak Squad
Color Power - Could be interesting to try out. Like some kind of wild card
    *Expert Badges*
Blue Shell - Now I like the Blue Shell power up as much as the next guy, though I think the Jet Run Badge makes this one kind of redundant
Living Off Coins - Depending on how fast they drain, this could be one heck of a challenge.
OHKO - Oh so like A Hat in Time? Interesting idea, though I hope like in that game, I'd hope there'd be some acknowledgement or bragging rights if you cleared a level with it.
Poisonous Takeover - An interesting idea. I wonder how it'd go if you already had a power up at the start.
Sprained Knee - Could make for quite the challenge
Gravity Shifter - Depending on the level, you could just fly up forever, but cool concept
Chatter Box - I can get behind this one considering the last badge in the game.
