I don't believe the risk is low at all. Happened to me -- the change is subtle over time, so it can go unnoticed for a while. Everyone I've seen who uses lash serum with prostaglandins has it from what I've noticed (unless they just started). Some don't believe it, but it's obvious. Be careful! I say avoid it.
So glad you covered this. It's like I get concerned about something and you're already on it:) I purchased a tube of Grande Lash serum prior to finding out about this side effect, used it 3 times and threw it out as soon as I heard about it. I have light green eyes and not messing around with that stuff. I noticed that people who comment that they've never experienced any problems with this ingredient, usually have darker brown eyes. Of course it wouldn't affect them.
@@Adhara740 I have read comments from many people that Grande Lash and Babe Lash did cause issues with fat loss, darkening around the eye and irritation to the eyelids
I used Revitalash for a while but it darkened the eyelids near the lash line, and I did notice some fat loss (which made me look tired and older.) I stopped using it since and things have gotten back to normal. Never again!
Thanks, Dr Dray for your continued concern and common sense about Latisse. The FDA should ban this for cosmetic purposes & leave it for glaucoma patients.
I’ve been using Latisse for 17 years with none of these side effects. I have hazel eyes, and they have not darkened nor do I have sunken eyes. I love the long lashes, and I think it’s a great product. By the way, I started using it in my late fifties. The illustrations you showed appeared to be of elderly patients, which makes me wonder if they are just experiencing aging.
Same. If you apply it with precision to the upper lash line only with minimal product, you will have no side effects. Most people do not apply it carefully or correctly.
I have been using a product called "BabeLash" for several years. I find it works well for me. It does take a while to see any results. I use it about 3-4 times week. I tried Latisse once, but really didn't see any more results than with the over the counter product. I have always had dark circles under my eyes, and as I have aged, now I have puffy under eyes too. I haven't seen any diminishing of the puffiness. I can only hope!
Hey dr. Dray could you possibly review ELFs “Sununtouchable” sunscreen? They’re marketing it as a sunscreen “primer” whatever that means.. haha. It has squalane, aloe and hyaluronic acid Edit: it’s also fragrance free
I experienced sunken eyes and darker circles after using GrandeLash. I didn't even know it was a side effect until I started noticing that I was looking different. I googled my symptoms and sure enough there were many people who experienced the same thing. It sucks because the product works really well!!! But I won't use it because of the side effects. I don't remember there being a warning about the side effects which I thought was strange..
@@mckitty4907 Me too, I stopped after only a few months of using UK Lash but a year later I have sunken and darkened eyes. I agree it should be illegal and I have reported it to Trading Standards
@Jenni that's crazy!! Yeah I bet sooner or later they are going to have to disclose it better...kinda makes you think what else is on the market that isn't all that good for you...
Same here. I have really sensitive eyes which tend to water and get red with so many products. I also gave up using my lash curler as it kept pinching my upper lids. ☹ But, I have found a few mascaras that help lift and curl my lashes so they look longer and a bit fuller so all is not lost. 🙂
It happened to me! I stopped using Latisse and it took almos 2 years for my eyes to regain the orbital fat. Please don’t use Latisse unless you have eye disease gloucoma! It will age your eyes. And I was very lucky that my eyes normalized. It took a long time. Also the darkened eyelid skin and pronounced veins did resolve over time
I've been using Latisse on and off for 15 years. I have olive green eyes with yellow rods. I used to love how it would make my lower lashes darker but it stopped doing that a long time ago. No side effects, no problems. I love it. Keep in mind that she did say that the side effects are rare.
The fat loss side effect is not rare, it actually happens 100% of the time, it’s just that for some it’s just so subtle they wouldn’t notice. But trust me, any serum with prostaglandins, even the synthetic ones sold over the counter, will have a fat loss effect and it’s more pronounced the more you use them. I’m actually disappointed in Dr. Dray not stressing this because again, it’s not a rare side effect and the evidence is out there that it’s not. That redness and hyperpigmentation around the lids that people are experiencing is their fat going away.
Hi! Unrelated question?! Can you please do a video about the varicella zoster virus in adults? How to treat scars, is sun exposure recommended, products? There's not much info online. Thank you 😊
Guys when they say fat loss can happen, they are not kidding! I’m heartbroken and freaking out right now. Let me tell you I’ve only been using grandelash for two weeks, and already I started noticing the skin around my eyes looking textured with fine lines. Its almost like it looks dry, idk def a texture when I’m comparing there wasn’t any two weeks ago. I can feel the orbital bone under and on the sides, wasn’t like this before. It’s noticeable, like my face feels weird, different. Not just touching, when I’m just sitting here typing. I’m freaking out bc I’m 34 but I’ve always passed for much younger. Im proud that women in my family typically look a decade younger- so im really scared now. Please ladies- really consider the risks aren’t just risks! They happen. I knew my dark Asian eyes wouldn’t get any darker, and was ok with eyelid lash line getting darker, but this thinning skin and fat loss- I’m not okay. I wish I had listen to my gut a couple days ago when I started notice the texture- blaming maybe allergie or lack of sleep smh. I’m happy I’ve realized versus the full 3-4 months they say to use it for. I’m just praying that I can regain what I’ve lost. Please please learn from my experience!! 😢
I dislike when people say that it is a "rare" side effect. It is not a rare side effect at all. Please be be careful! Those who prescribe and use it tend to minimize the side effects when talking about it. Just not worth it, guys. Don't take it.
Castor Oil can help length retention but it is not the same as prostaglandin. That ingredient actually makes your lashes continue the active stage so they continue to grow. The length of your lashes is biological and unfortunately an oil is not going to alter that.
I got dark hollow eyes from using Castor oil & grape seed combined and within a week I have deep sunken eyes and very dark shadow that I look like a dead corpse. It’s aged me when I used to look good and young. Now I look old and gross 😢
I was diagnosed with glaucoma about 15 years ago and been on Travatan. It does thicken the lashes and since I was about 42 to now at almost 60 some aging has happened so I don't know if it contributed or not. I do know that it causes darkening more around the eyes and I use concealer to hide that. I failed laser surgery twice and some of the other glaucoma meds caused problems with blood pressure so this one I'm stable on. I had a few years where I was not stable and my left eye lost 50% of my vision completely.
The eyelid fat loss and darkening happened to me with UK Lash, and no where on the packaging or the website are these side effects stated. Over a year later, the plumpness of my eyelids hasn't returned which is a big insecurity of mine now. Luckily the darkness finally seems to be fading. It also caused tiny eyelashes to grow in my inner corners which have stayed. I don't think UK Lash should be allowed for sale
@@jadehang119 me too! They won’t publish my review. I reported them to Trading Standards but I don’t think anything can really be done without going to court
Hey how is it now. I am just now realising my hollow under eyes from UKLASH. I am so upset. I’m only 23 and look like I haven’t slept for years. I’m devastated. Please give me hope it’ll be better
I've been using Revitalash for over 5 years now, and it's made such a difference to my eyelashes, I had many people comment to say they thought I was wearing falsies. However, I'm very careful in the way I use it. It's the very last thing I do before going to sleep, I use it very sparingly on the top of my eyelashes making sure it doesn't run into my eyes, and then I close my eyes and go to sleep. I am sincerely hoping I don't develop any adverse reaction by using it that way, as I have hooded eyes so a full set of lashes really makes a difference on me.. Personally I love it!
I love it too! My lashes have been restored after the stupid menopause made them small and dumpy. Like you I have hooded eyes and having big lashes just look so much better. Don't tell the doctor but now and then I take a loratadine if it gets too irritating.
I tried Revitalash after concerns about dry eye with Latisse, which worked like a miracle . No comparison. Latisse works. Revitalash did nothing . If anything my eyelids became less saggy. Maybe from fat loss. They did turn a reddish brown color, but I actually like it. Permanent eyeshadow. I will be more careful not letting it get in my eyes. Directions say only apply on top lid. I was putting it on both. Works great on eyebrows. Grew them back beautifully and darkened too.
I used an eyelash serum for almost 2 years. Was very happy with my eyelashes but for the last 2-3 months I had repeated eye infections, itchiness, swollen eyes. And lately there was this pain felt in the bk of the eyes. So I had to stop using the serum bc I was so afraid with the repeated infections. It is nice to have long lashes, but health is more important. Stay safe!
I am very concerned that some OTC lash serums have prescription ingredients. I used a fairly well known "beauty" one, mostly as a lark, as I have heavy lashes and brows. I ended up getting an eyelash growing under my skin and one that popped up above my lashline. I also got some odd brows, but plucking those helped. I am concerned that someone in the production process is making sure this formula is worth the crazy price, since it's supposed to just be glycerin & rose oil plus the usual stabilizers etc.
How many years can you use Latisse before the fat loss is no longer reversible? I have been using it since ~2018 and I have a more sunken look to my eyes now. If I stop (even though it's been 5 years or so) will I see some reversal? How long does it take for things to "reverse"? I've been using it on both my brows/lashes 2-4x per week. Are the same negative effects seen only using it on brows?
I would love an answer to that, too. Did you do some more research elsewhere on it? I mean...if it doesn't reverse anyway....why stop? For me, the 'damage' was only very slight and I love having thick, long lashes.
Thank you for this video, I use to use Latisse but the price just keeps going out of reach for me. It worked very well for me, love it. No problems. But then I tried this ones out in the market, first they hurt my eyes so bad and the second never saw results 😥 but I probably didn't use them long enough because it hurt so bad.
@Dee K. Try GoodRx for discount coupon...it was about the same price with a script from my PCP 😉 Thank your husband for his service and thank you and your family for the sacrifices you made while he protected our freedoms ❤️

I take it for Glaucoma a few years ago. Since then my lacrimal glands have dropped down. I'm 48, my skin isn't as aged as some, so I find it hard to think it's from age. None of my doctors can pinpoint it. They offered a cat scan. I've had many so I'm reluctant to get another one. Anyone else see their lacrimal glands pop out after Latanaprost use?
Revitalash gave me serious panda eyes, stopped using it about a year ago and I’m still struggling with the side effects now, although it has improved a bit. It’s not worth it 😩
I’ve dwindled the application from daily to twice a week until I run out and won’t be repurchasing. I think the dark circles are something I didn’t get before.
Thank you Dr Dray. I have observed periorbital fat atrophy, enophthalmos and lid ptosis, on my own mother as a result of her glaucoma treatment. I have a strong suspicion this side effect will soon be monetised as fat loss treatment…? 😬😰 Take care and stay well 💙🙏🏻🕊🌞
Hi Dr. Dray! I love your videos! I was wondering if you’d ever consider looking at the ingredients of a brand called Living Libations- I’m definitely not into “clean beauty” but for when my skin feels so sensitive that even cetaphil burns, one of their products that’s semi popular (the best skin ever sea buckthorn oil) feels absolutely amazing and never breaks me out. I was just really curious on your thoughts about the brand
That’s funny my coworker was just raving about this oil and I’d never heard of the brand. She was bemoaning her love of expensive products and I was arguing they aren’t any better than drugstore stuff.
@@Hemmyii yea I’ve always been that way too, I prefer drugstore over more expensive brands but this product is just so amazing to me even though the ingredients aren’t like some new amazing super ingredient or anything. I noticed an odd loss of fat around my eyes after a year or two of using Grande Lash but I never thought my lash serum was the issue. I remember looking in the mirror and thinking something wasn't right (more than typical aging) especially around my left eye which I sometimes only used Grande Lash because I had uneven lash growth. I also have an issue with my left eye drooping which I never had before. Fortunately that issue is intermittent but I occasionally have to use Upneeq because it bothers me. I'm not a smoker and take very good care of my skin (tretinoin, Vitamin C serums, at home Dermalux Flex MD red light therapy, botox, etc, etc) but nothing helped. No one in my family seems to have issues around their eyes like I do so it's not bad genetics. I loved how my lashes grew but when I heard about the negative side effects it all made sense. I'm so bummed and wish I 'd never used it!

I use babe lash and put on vaselinearound my eyes before No issues for me perhaps that will help
Hey dr. Dray could you possibly review ELFs “Sununtouchable” sunscreen? They’re marketing it as a sunscreen “primer” whatever that means.. haha. It has squalane, aloe and hyaluronic acid
Edit: it’s also fragrance free
Dr Dray has reviewed sunscreen primers before, like the Supergoop ones which Elf and others have duped
Have you sunken eyes and dark circles improved since stopping the product?
has it reversed? I stopped a year ago and still have horrible sunken eyes, this should be illegal
@@mckitty4907 Me too, I stopped after only a few months of using UK Lash but a year later I have sunken and darkened eyes. I agree it should be illegal and I have reported it to Trading Standards
@@village8555yes, the sunken eyes and dark circles went away. I don't remember how long it took but the changes weren't permanent thank god
@Jenni that's crazy!! Yeah I bet sooner or later they are going to have to disclose it better...kinda makes you think what else is on the market that isn't all that good for you...
I tried lash serums long ago, but they all irritated the skin of my eyelids. Me and my stubby lashes soldier on without them.
It leaves like a purple line on your lash lines. It pretty much does that to everyone unfortunately.
Same here. I have really sensitive eyes which tend to water and get red with so many products. I also gave up using my lash curler as it kept pinching my upper lids. ☹ But, I have found a few mascaras that help lift and curl my lashes so they look longer and a bit fuller so all is not lost. 🙂
A brave soul😞✊🏻
Well crap, I wanted to try the serum but with my allergies probably isn’t a good idea
I had monolids and then after Latisse, a crease has formed and I'm living my best life
How’s it possible?
@@niverahamed8920fat loss side effect
No surgery needed! I’m happy for you 😅
It happened to me! I stopped using Latisse and it took almos 2 years for my eyes to regain the orbital fat.
Please don’t use Latisse unless you have eye disease gloucoma!
It will age your eyes. And I was very lucky that my eyes normalized. It took a long time. Also the darkened eyelid skin and pronounced veins did resolve over time
Same thing happened to me but my eyes after many years still look sunken :(
was there anything you did to reverse it? I am so depressed over this
How long does it take to reverse it’s been a year for me and it hasn’t gone back. I’m only 23 so it worries me
I gave up make-up. I gave up Latisse. I just love my naked face, kept fresh with my dedicated skincare routine 💕
I really wish I saw this video before trying the serum :(
@@elleo3441 me too. I’m 23 and the same has happened to me from UK Lash
Any updates on the skin around your eyes? Did it return to normal & how long did it take?
I’m 22 and this happened to me but not because of lash serum. It happened to me because of cardio workouts.
Hello, similar experience, really traumatic. How are you now, any improvements?
I dislike when people say that it is a "rare" side effect. It is not a rare side effect at all. Please be be careful! Those who prescribe and use it tend to minimize the side effects when talking about it. Just not worth it, guys. Don't take it.
don't use* it.
Are you a medical professional? Have you read the studies? No your just baselessly fear mongeriny
Hey Dr. Dray,
Do you think the fat loss side effect applies to prostoglandin analogues used on the scalp for androgenetic alopecia?
I have been using Castor oil on my lashes for several months and am happy with results.
How do you apply the castor oil?
Yes natural is best
This happened to me too with UK lash :( I wrote a review explaining the side effects I experienced on the website and they took it down too ..
@@jadehang119 me too! They won’t publish my review. I reported them to Trading Standards but I don’t think anything can really be done without going to court

any opinion on the ordinary's multi peptide lash and brow serum?
I've been using Revitalash for over 5 years now, and it's made such a difference to my eyelashes, I had many people comment to say they thought I was wearing falsies. However, I'm very careful in the way I use it. It's the very last thing I do before going to sleep, I use it very sparingly on the top of my eyelashes making sure it doesn't run into my eyes, and then I close my eyes and go to sleep. I am sincerely hoping I don't develop any adverse reaction by using it that way, as I have hooded eyes so a full set of lashes really makes a difference on me.. Personally I love it!
Try using it 2-3 times a week. It still works I use it once every 4-5 days only and still see a difference
I love it too! My lashes have been restored after the stupid menopause made them small and dumpy. Like you I have hooded eyes and having big lashes just look so much better.
Don't tell the doctor but now and then I take a loratadine if it gets too irritating.
I had the browning of the skin. It was a bummer
The question is, what can u do to prevent sunken eyes?
What about using Latisse for thinning eyebrows? I have found it very successful but am concerned about possible effects on the eyes themselves.
I've been using revitalash for years and no side effects for me
I tried Revitalash after concerns about dry eye with Latisse, which worked like a miracle .
I lost fat under my eyes but they were so think I hated it. It was actually beneficial for me.
Me too. 😊
Stay safe!
Which ones did you use? Which really worked the best to help you grow them the best????
I love all your videos!!! Can you do more hair care and scalp care videos ???
I have family history of glaucoma. I use Latisse to have amazing lashes, so my Optometrist is kinda happy lol
👍🏼
I am very concerned that some OTC lash serums have prescription ingredients. I used a fairly well known "beauty" one, mostly as a lark, as I have heavy lashes and brows. I ended up getting an eyelash growing under my skin and one that popped up above my lashline. I also got some odd brows, but plucking those helped. I am concerned that someone in the production process is making sure this formula is worth the crazy price, since it's supposed to just be glycerin & rose oil plus the usual stabilizers etc.
Which brand is this? I'd be curious to see if they use specific versions of the ingredient name that makes it difficult to detect
But then I tried this ones out in the market, first they hurt my eyes so bad and the second never saw results 😥 but I probably didn't use them long enough because it hurt so bad.
thanks for watching! yes, they can get expensive
I get Latisse for 36 bucks using my insurance. A bottle lasts me almost 3 months. I did get it with GoodRX for the first script.
@@reformingbeauty Wow so lucky ☺my insurance (my husband retired military) will not pay for it😞

Has casteroil on eyebrows and lashes the same effect, sunken eye en fatloss?? Ive heard that casteroil has prostaglandin activity, so could it also cause prostaglandin associated fatt and volume loss around the eyes?? Please answerrrr dr dray

Hi Dr.Dray i love your videos you are awesome! I have one question is castor oil bad for lashes ?
What if you have to use these drops for your glaucoma? Do you have any advice as to what preventative measures can be made? Thx😮
SO many things we would never now without you! 💜💜💜
Happy Thursday! Very informative topic!
Happy Thursday Dr Dray so excited to be here I live for this ❤️
Morning!
My eyes are already sunken and brown I have nowhere to go but up! 😂
Thank you Dr Dray. I have observed periorbital fat atrophy, enophthalmos and lid ptosis, on my own mother as a result of her glaucoma treatment. I have a strong suspicion this side effect will soon be monetised as fat loss treatment…? 😬😰
Take care and stay well 💙🙏🏻🕊🌞
All of those also go along with the aging eye-hard to be certain where to place responsibility.
Aside from fat loss & sunken eyes, what are the chances of developing more LASHES with the OTC products?? 🤨
I used otc lash serum years ago, worked wonders, surprisingly
Very informative! You answered questions I have had for a while. Thank you
Thanks for this:) I can’t tolerate these products anymore. I’m glad for that now hearing this! Yikes!!
Would you please comment on The Ordinary Lash Serum. I would love to know if it has any dangerous chemicals in it.
Hi Dr.
I will say, I think the concept of the product being both a cleanser and moisturizer is pretty cool and unique.
I'm so bummed and wish I 'd never used it!
same I wish the side effects were actually stated on the product, I never would have used it. It happened to me with UK Lash
