I'm no big ORB fan, but I always liked their version of this, and, of course, Emmylou's. To hear them melded together is fabulous, thanks for posting.

Absolutely. I do not understand why there are so few. I had to make this myself! The Oaks don't add much to it. If you know her original version you'll know what I'm talking about...

Just noticed, Emmylou's guitar strap is emblazoned with "Sally Rose" - wondering who remembers The Ballad of Sally Rose? I understand that it didnt do well commercially, but WOW, if it were a book they'd make it a movie!

Good lord, where is this from? The crowd clearly doesn't know what they're watching! They look like they're sitting at an insurance seminar!

I love her voice and songs. But I feel she gets more credibility than dolly parton for the simple reason she never went mainstream. But for me, emmylouis harris, dolly parton, linda ronstadt have the best voices of all time (not including the opera)

Nash Ramblers and Oak Ridge Boys, two new groups, probably won't neither one make it.

Emmylou's slower tempo version (before Oak Ridge Boys) is a much better sounding recording of this song. She shouldn't have ever let their popularity with this song change the way she performed it.

Why does Emmylou's guitar strap have somebody's else name on it.

the ballad of sally rose is an album she did around that time. it was a concept album about a woman form north dakota who became a country star. did not do well commercially and she lost money. but it is a great album for me and I highly recommend it

Stan, you're entitled to your opinion, but the two very best versions of this song are by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. The Oaks subtract from this version, and their version alone has no soul. Not a fan of the Oaks homogenized, zero feeling singing.

The Oak Ridge Boys version is way better.
