    Hey guys, I really like your content! Wanted to ask if Carleen can show us her minimalist wardrobe, or just give us her female perspective about how she decides what to keep, how many items she needs, etc. I feel like that this area is simpler for men, but for us there are too many different clothes categories to choose from and it gets confusing. Take care :)

    The Costco membership is $130/year, that is so expensive. I plan to go down to the $60/year membership instead. I also eliminated Amazon Prime, I bundle my purchases, shipping is still free at $25. Most times stuff stays in the cart for a while until I decided if I really need it.
    I used to love to shop at Target, Marshals, etc. No more, I save tons of money.

    I have been enjoying places offering curbside pick up to avoid any possible temptations in the stores. I am usually pretty good but every now and then I feel like spending and this helps that from happening.
    Also just want to say your videos are so calming and relaxing. Between the music and your voices it, I just love it!

    I like your ideas about clothes, especially for the kids. Now, don’t get me wrong, I also agree with purchasing off-brand and find cheaper clothes. However, keep in mind some other ideas with clothing: 1) where and how were they made? Too many of the cheaper off-brand (and some expensive brand) clothing are not being made using ethical standards. Read up on this so you can be informed and make intentional purchases. 2) be sure to buy clothing that is well made with good materials. Check the seams and hems and producers of your garments. As adults, we can keep a well-made minimal wardrobe of clothing that can last longer and wear better.
    Just a thought.

      @TheArmsteadFamily  3 года назад +3

      Hey Wendy, Carleen and I have been thinking about this a lot more lately. I think we can definitely improve in this area. There are some things that we purchase that are clearly responsibly-made, but to be honest, I've never been sure where to look. Thank you for this reminder :)

      @@TheArmsteadFamily there is another influencer who has a channel called “my green closet”. I thought I knew a lot about ethical marketing and products, but she has taught me a great deal. I think you’d like what she says. Her options for children’s cloths are super, but I find they grow out of the clothes so fast, the price-point is too high for me to maintain.

    I keep a list of things I need, research the best options including waiting until sales hit wherever possible. If it’s a business that rarely lowers prices I use my marketing-only email address I set up years ago as they usually offer a percentage off for providing it. Otherwise I “add to cart” and leave it there. Usually within a few days I get an email to say “here’s % off to tempt you to buy those items you left in your cart”. I also try to buy items from the same site to reach the minimum required for free shipping. And all of this might happen a couple of times a year because I find patience pays off 😊

    • @TheArmsteadFamily
      @TheArmsteadFamily  3 года назад +1

      We’ve gone back and forth on this. For a little over 1.5 years, we haven’t had anything we’ve really needed to dress up for. I have dress clothes for work, but even those are super minimal. For us, we try to have clothes for events that happen often in our life, not once or twice a year which has really helped us keep it clutter free 😊

    I realised that my 13yr old needs a whole new wardrobe. Today I’ve decided to go through all his clothes and see what fits & doesn’t fit. And also make a plan of purchases rather than going wild in the shops. Not sure how many clothes a growing boy needs each week???

    • @TheArmsteadFamily
      @TheArmsteadFamily  3 года назад +1

      Yes that’s a tough one! Speaking from experience (C’jon here) I had growth spurts up until 18. But, even then I only usually wore the same 3-4 outfits but I had like 20!!

      @@TheArmsteadFamily well I’ve made a list of all the clothes he has & the sizes. I’ve realised that he doesn’t actually need a whole wardrobe. He’s very skinny for his age and the majority of his clothes fit him. All he really needs is a couple of trousers & some bigger underwear 🙈Saved myself a fortune!

    I dont usually write, but writing my opinion, please dont take me wrong.
    Being minimalist, and having minimal is good - Agreed.
    But whatever you have use it till its full extent, coz you have bought it with your own hard earned money; why to let that go.
    Just my opinion - let kids be kids, in a fraction of time they will become adults, so let them have their time . Eating everyday the same food, and packed food seems just the same that you buy from the store - just the first is boring and later feels good. Just make food yourself that they will cherish when they grow up. Not boiled potatoes and sweet potatoes! Just feel bad for your kids. Seems like they are smiling only for the camera.
    Not making proper food, just gives more time in social media.
    I have being trying to follow you from few days, but its like you are cutting off from a normal lifestyle. A minimalist should not do unnecessary buying, use what you have. Cut down on impulsive buying....etc.

    • @TheArmsteadFamily
      @TheArmsteadFamily  3 года назад +12

      Hey Pratibha, thank you for your honesty. As I’m reading your response, I can understand some of the concerns you might have. These are all lifestyle decisions that have been made over time. Also, we are always evaluating every change we make and see if it is getting in the way of what our true goal was when pursuing minimalism “having more room to make memories as a family”. With that being said, i can confidently say our kids don’t fake smiles for the camera and don’t feel deprived from being kids. In fact, in this season of life we are doing everything we can to give them more first time experiences and adapting our minimalist lifestyle to support our goals for our family 😊... thank you for taking the time to comment
