Hey friends! What is one thing you won’t buy in 2021??

    • @emilyduggan9446
      @emilyduggan9446 3 года назад +5

I told myself in 2021 I wasn’t going to buy any clothes because I have more than enough. But since then I have changed my mind, and bought some really nice quality pieces that are going to last me, and have gotten rid of well over half of my clothes so I don’t feel bad for the few purchases I have made thus far. I do plan to stop shopping for “fun” or as a “hobby” and also plan to quit buying back up items until I am done with the item I am currently using.

@@emilyduggan9446 that’s great. Not shopping for fun was a big one for me a few years ago. I used to find shopping therapeutic. Thanks for sharing 😍

This year I don't want to buy anymore makeup. I have a big collection already and like 2020 I won't really be going anywhere. And I realized with the face masks....all my liquid lipsticks r pointless 😂

Avoid buying these 11 items (to be able to maintain order):
    1. Planers
    (Plan in your phone)
    2. Expensive products (skincare, haircare). Try cheaper products and find one product for everyone (simplifying).
    3. Sheets:
Go for "low maintenance lifestyle". Have one set of sheets, wash the sheets and don't keep spares. Sane with curtains. Keep it simple. Eliminate the linen closet if you never have guests.
    4. Kitchen gadgets:
    - keep a minimum plus some extras
    - avoid single-use kitchen items (use multi purpose items)
    5. Landscape lighting:
    - solar power lights are disappointing
    6. Several pairs of jeans, when you're just staying at home. (Uncomfortable)
    7. Cleaning products:
    - use fewer items to clean everything (multi-use)
    8. Chargers in every area of the house:
    - keep one charger
    9. Extension cords:
    - it's clutter and also radiation
    10. No snacks (even healthy ones)
    - healthier
    - cheaper
    - less clutter
    11. Office:
    - no extra pens
    - no extra notebooks
    - less storing
    12. Watches:
    - keep one watch or no watch
    13. Books:
    - before buying a new book finish the ones you have
    - borrow from library
    - borrow from a friend

I do keep x2 sets for each bed as I can't always get a set washed and dried in one day. Same with towels. I agree with toiletries though, have been buying "one size fits all" toiletries for the family rather than his, hers and the kids. We decided not to buy clothes this year except for our daughter, and only to buy what she actually needs because she's grown out of it. No more tech upgrades. No more home decor. Agree with the snacking, if it's not in the house then there's no temptation. The more you cut, the more you want to cut out, it almost becomes a little competition!

I have ADHD and am a major minimalist. It is the only way I can cope and not feel like I have to clean constantly. I just found your channel yesterday and really enjoy your videos. I don’t plan to buy any home decor items or furniture. I got rid of all home decor that is not our own family pictures or something the kids made. I also got rid of my dresser as I don’t need it anymore after minimizing my wardrobe. I even got rid of the kitchen table and chairs as we always just sit at the bar anyway. Now there is no more table to collect clutter. You are doing your kids a big favor raising them in a minimalist household. Mine are all grown now and are just like me. They don’t do clutter!

I am old school do prefer notebook and pen and reading from an actual book. I buy from Charity shops and have 3/4 other persons I swap out with. Donated loads of reference books etc to Charity as got sick of dusting them. I have always been Minimalish and when I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and hardly able to keep up with housework I decluttered many things and was then able to get rid of cupboards and bookshelves.
I am 65 now but still love to look at the younger generation and how they keep their lives simple owning less. Good work. Stay safe and well. Peace and Love Pammy UK

I realize this is a no buy video, but I love that bed cover you have. Where is it from?
To answer your question though, one thing we won’t be buying this year is any upgrades for any of our appliances, electronics, etc. We gave up cable last year and this year we are downgrading our internet, getting rid of our provider’s email and only using one simple online email provider instead. We aren’t buying liquid laundry detergent but instead are trying a Canadian made product or going to our local eco-store for regular laundry and dishwasher detergent. We aren’t buying expensive birthday or celebration cards anymore, but instead we are intentionally writing a hand-written note and mailing that to our close and extended family members and friends. Since we are back in lockdown (Ontario, Canada), we don’t see our family, so handwritten letters seem better than a pat saying from a card. As well, we aren’t buying a gym membership anymore and walking outside more often and working out at home. We are also going to sell one of our cars and be a single car couple again. We won’t be buying any more (physical) books this year. We realized we had a huge backlog of books at home that we want to read, then pass on. Plus, we hope to get more use of library books instead of purchasing more and adding to our clutter. I won’t be buying any office or work organization products as we are trying to declutter the overflow of items we have in our home and office area. Lastly, although this is because of COVID restrictions, sadly, this is the first year in a long, long time that we aren’t buying plane tickets to travel away from Canada or even far from here. We even had trouble booking a campsite today for June, so I think we will be travelling only locally once the restrictions pass or spending more time in the garden instead of travelling outside of this region this summer.
I just found your channel for the first time this morning. I love your content and what you are sharing here. Keep up the good work. - a brand new subscriber and new binge-watcher.

Hey Wendy, really enjoyed reading this response. It's so cool how much we have in common with each other. I really love the handwritten letters idea. Just the thought of it sounds so much more thoughtful and meaningful. We have friends from Ontario and have heard how difficult it has been with travel and lockdowns. We are in Florida so it is quite different here! But, thank you so much for your comments. We really enjoy reading them, and are so glad you are bingeing :))

I was the same when came to body stuff for adults and kids - the odd time my son like get something for the shower he likes and I would buy larger own last longer so not constantly buying it at every food shop or if seen a really good sale on stuff I would buy 6-12 months bulk but only mainly on dental care as more expensive in shops to buy . Dr bronners is best stuff ever and buy one for a whole year as shower and shave gel ! It’s super concentrated and lasts such a long time and so worth it €21 for year shower shave gel or more hair ! and one for my son and we done :)

and what if I lost phone???

So inspiring. So it seems like you don’t buy extras of things like deodorant and toothpaste? You use up what you have before buying new is that right? I have a huge supply of extras like that and it’s getting hard to manage.

    • @TheArmsteadFamily
      @TheArmsteadFamily  3 года назад +6

Hey Heather! Typically, we will only get 1 extra since normal stores will have the 2-packs and that’s not too hard to store.
Recently, we went to Costco and got a 5-pack of toothpaste but we DEFINITELY wouldn’t want to do that with everything because.. yes... it can get really hard to manage and become difficult 😊.. to make life easier, if you have a TONNN of extras you could give them away to friends/family and open up some space.. but if you want to just use it up and the next time just get 1-2 extra that could work as well!

I literally only use the calendar app and schedule it all as appointments.. very minimal and easy ❤️❤️

As far as shampoos and conditioners. As a hairstylist of 27 years I would recommend salon products if you want to have fabulous beautiful healthy hair. Sorry not sorry to say the stuff you buy at Walmart is crap.
