I wish I would have realized sooner that empty space is not a bad thing!! I’ve gotten rid of so many of my organizing bins because I don’t have as much to store! Now my closets are almost empty but I have everything I need!

I wish I knew I wouldn’t actually know any other minimalist in real life. I am the only minimalist I know of in real life which is why I cling tightly to any online minimalist I find and you two are some of my favorites. Such good ideas. How do you guys have this all figured out? You should be very proud of yourselves. Keep the videos coming!

    • @TheArmsteadFamily

That’s funny Heather because we felt the exact same way when we started! We still really don’t have many people around us (physically) that are minimalists, but you are right. They are everywhere online!
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊

Yes! I only know one other minimalist in real life & she’s in her seventies. Doesn’t even know what minimalism is; it’s just natural for her!

You both are an inspiration. Having a lot of children is a blessing! I didn’t start til I was 34 and had my last at 41. Then we went on to adopt three children in my early 50’s!! Don’t rule out more kids. ❤️

It’s very well to say that in hindsight you didn’t need half of these baby things. I didn’t need them either but I bought them because I thought I did, there was so many things I never or barely used although most of it was second hand. Now I know better! . My daughter is six and probably still has way too many things, but I see friends having babies and I’m saying to them you really don’t need that and you could do without this. they’ve still have it on the baby list because they feel like they can’t parent without this things, equipment, outfits, toys, slings, pushchairs. They think you’re just being a freak for saying you don’t need things because they don’t know better. A lot of the time people don’t listen anyway. I’m at the beginning of my journey and wish I new all this 10 years ago before I got a container full of stuff across they world that I’m still trying to clear out.

It’s good to go fast enough to keep up the momentum but not burn out. It is good to take breaks for a few weeks or a few months then go back to it. I like to say there 3 ways to go thru things. 1. With a heavy hand 2. With a vicious hand 3. With a “I’m getting this stuff GONE! Hand. There is always the need to go back. If you have a lot of a items in a single category put some items that you’re not sure about in a box and put it away and see what happens for the next few or several months. Sometimes even an entire year because it may be something that you need to go thru the seasons to see what you need to do. After you’re decided upon time has passed donate what you don’t need. As time goes by you’ll get in the habit of regularly evaluating your possessions. As you clean you’ll pull things out here and there. And, of course, you hopefully will not bring in as much. But as many say, “to live is to consume”. Let’s just not be a slave to consumerism.

One of the things that we are still feeling out with minimalism is that open communication between myself and my husband is constantly necessary. I think he “gets” minimalism, then I find out he won’t minimalise something that I think is easy to give away (or not bring into the family). It is a constant check of I’m okay - are you okay? Open and continuous communication is an asset to minimalism.
Love your channel, perspectives, and grounding logic. Keep up the great work. 👍 ♥️

Your point about "anyone can live minimally and still have an abundant life". Listening to your previous videos and this one, i think you have a more abundant life in your minimal living. Less clutter, less distractions, less minding things means you are doing more of what you like, having more time for family and people and more peaceful rest. That sounds abundant to me and what I hope to get to in my downsizing journey to having just enough.

  • @avgonyma1
    @avgonyma1 3 года назад +1

    1. There is no rush. Finish up one room before you move on.
    2. Even after minimizing you will still need to declutter periodically.
    (Clothes, toys,replacing things).
Put things to get rid off into a bigger box and get rid of it once per month.
You will be able to get rid off things that you used to use six months ago.
    3. People, friends and family may not understand or agree with your lifestyle. If you get gifts and you enjoy that, keep it. If you have no use for it, give it away.
(If you love your lifestyle you won't care).
The longer you do it, the more people will start to understand it and be inspired.
    4. Being minimalist doesn't mean it's spotlessly clean all the time. Only the resetting a couple of times per day will be so simple and quick.
It's about keeping an easier home.
Kids need a lot less than you think. People are creatures of habit (Same clothes, Samo toys).
Kids can decide what to keep/throw away.
    5. Teach kids the WHY (why having less things), lead by example. Include them in the process.
Minimalism might make you think you can manage more kids (house, laundry, toys).
Kids are not as expensive, when you don't buy that much stuff.
    6. Anyone can live minimally and still have an abundant life.

I raised my son like this. The problem was that he spent all his free time up the street in the cluttered house that had three boys that were homeschooled. Lol You could not walk around that house without stepping on toys. However, I believe had my kid not been an only child, he would have become accustomed to playing in a neat house. He had plenty of toys, but they had a place, and projects were constructed on flat cardboard so they they could be moved to a corner overnight.

Aww, what a beautiful family you are. Sounds like you're well on your way to a full and content life. Together, you can achieve anything. I wish my husband and I had known about minimalism when we were younger. It's been a real struggle for us over the years, and we only started our minimalism journey a year ago. Already, we've enjoyed so many benefits...the peace it brings is the greatest gift x

Who made the decision to do it? In my case, I decided to 'declutter' and then husband sort of followed. I didn't decide to be a minimalist. I found it quite stressful at the time but I have always been glad I just did it. Now, I get a bit 'antsy' when I see things building up.
