I love my Action 4 and would only upgrade to the 5 Pro for the two mic capability. I just hope DJI will put a firmware update to accommodate this to the A4.
the glow is - DJI is masking on the go. classic issue with AI quick masking, especially when you want to restore blown out sky in photos or footage. Photoshop would do the same thing IF taken too far. There could/should be a setting to tone it down or just turn it off completely. Yeah, that thing is masking the trees/buildings so it can recover the sky
Thanks again Tamara, I really thought Camera 2 was the Action 5, dang! And regarding shooting in Log, I just saw that the DJI Mimo app was updated to be able to convert it on the phone, without a computer needed. So there is really almost no reason at all to not shoot in 10-bit DLog-M!
Well. My first gut feeling is that this cam doesnt deserve the ”pro” stamp at all. The audio hardware coming from pocket 3 is nice but if you dont use the wireless mics there is really almost nothing in it compared to oa4 which already supported a single wireless mic setup. Im a bit disappointed even though I love dji cams and shoot all my videos with dji products. Personally I’m not gonna buy it at least not right away. My oa 3 and oa 4 are still going strong.
I feel like people that saying the camera looks the same. It’s just trying to convince themselves because they have the action it’s definitely a different in low light and it looks a lot brighter when recording people
Eh - I would say the camera looks different but idk if I'd call the 5 a win over the 4. It's different but I actually prefer the 4's image in a lot of the shots of this video. The 5 is overexposing a lot of things and there's a weird halo thing going on with some objects.
Before action 5, DJI always prioritize the background over the people vlogging. I hate this result so never really want to buy DJI. GoPro actually got the balance right but plagued with many other problems. Now the problem seems to be partially fixed, I'm interested with this device. Subject exposure is prioritized first even with background glow effect. Unless the video content is boring, only little would complain about this, most probably won't even notice it
I disagree money is no option to me on this one , and I was waiting for the 5 to come out so I could choose and I think im going to get the 4 and buy a couple of the newer updated batteries that will last longer , the glow looks processed or something I don't like it , that being said they did update the audio and the ai tracking , both those things I don't care about , but I could see that being a factor for others !! I just like filming in d log m on my mini pro 4 and I think I will prefer the 4's footage more in d log M

I came straight to your channel for my first look at the new Action 5 Pro because I know you’ll always give a balanced insight into the camera. Apart from the two mic functionality, I see no need to upgrade to the Action 5. Going to save my money for the day DJI release the full frame, weather sealed Pocket 4 🤞

The CAMERA 1 VS CAMERA 2 comparison at the beginning of the video is crucial. And thank you so much Tamara for this eye-opening review. In my mind & heart I thought CAMERA 2 must be the newer model: DJI ACTION 5 Pro. CAMERA 2 color/picture quality is so much natural and comfortable for the eyes. CAMERA 1 seem to have a odd brightness = over exposure feel = over process. Very unnatural lighting ambient. One can clearly see that again at 6:15 - 6:30. I hope DJI get that fix with firmware update. But at 6:58 with D-Log M shooting self portrait Action 5 Pro looks okay. Thanks again Tamara.
Helpful video, thanks! Generally the Action 5 Pro appears a little better, especially on your face, but there are times it doesn't seem quite as good. One that really stood out to me was at 07:38 - as you came out from under the awning into the sun, the HDR looks really over done. I was curious whether there'd be better low-light stabilisation with the Action 5 Pro, but in the night shots, there still seemed a bit of background shake. Great kit still, and being able to pair two Mic 2s is handy. Cheers, John
I just purchased the OA4 (it literally arrived yesterday LOL). When I realized that the OA5 Pro came out today I wanted to bang my head against a wall. However, after the reveal at the end I’m feeling pretty confident about my purchase and don’t think I would have spent the extra coin on a OA5 Pro.

I think the issue here is that DJI has tried to get to get too much out of the same sized sensor as the Action 4. The Action 5 appeares over-satuated and the the night shots have a lot of noise. I'm keeping my Action 4.
@@vatosgym Actually, after seeing a lot of other videos, I've ordered the camera. They showed me that it would give me better results and it has other improvements that I like. Since I already have the full kit from the Action 4, I can use those with my Action 5. So, I only needed the camera.
@@allenmyers8568 I also own 2 x Pocket 3 so IQ is not that important to me, I use the OA4 for rough weather conditions, true action where water and multiple drops on hard floor are involved and overhead b-roll shots.
The Action 5 Pro has more megapixels on the sensor. So in daylight you get a sharper image from the higher resolution, but also the pixels are smaller and gather less light, so you get more noise in the image in low light. Action 4 improved its low light performance by opting for a smaller resolution, bigger pixeled sensor.

Great, clear, concise, informative and detailed review as always. 2 weeks ago I upgraded my DJI Action 1 (!) to the Action 4. Wouldn’t you know it - when I finally upgrade, a new upgrade announced a few days later. The only thing I’d get the 5 for would have been connecting the 2 mics direct to camera. However, 90% of my walk videos are just me doing a solo walk and talk, so the 4 vlogging combo is fine. Just wish they’d all have a 3.5 mic jack so I wouldn’t need an adapter for my other mics. (Just saw the Action 5 ad in my email and thought I bet someone’s done a review on YT. Glad it was you - proper info/no waffle!) 😀👍
Being that I have and love my Action 4, the very slight incremental changes in the Action 5 do not warrant an upgrade for me. I know the Action 5 has insane battery life, but my action 4 has been great for my needs in that department as well. Loving my 4! Thanks for the honest review!
I'm really torn now, I'm looking for an action cam for low-light underwater filming. The footage quality of the action 4 is better but in many aspects the low-light mode of the action 5 is better for my needs.

Yours is the third video I have watched on this today, besides the release video. Less than 1 minute into the first, and I knew that the Action 5 Pro runs rings around the Action 4. This is what the 4 should have been.
That's a bit of an odd one! Wasn't expecting that from the successor of the 4, which in my opinion, has the best footage of all the action cameras, and I absolutely love mine. But yeah, it all looks a bit grey and mushy. I hope they can, and do, fix it. I'm certainly not rushing out to replace the 4, put it that way!

Everyone’s wondering why they call this the “pro” version and I think if you look at their product lineup we get an idea of what’s going on. I think they might release a non pro version in a few months. It would explain the pro in the name while also competing with GoPros new hero camera. If you look at their mini lineup of drones they typically release the pro version first and then release a cheaper non pro version with less features a few months later.
Well, first, thanks for your video. Always great ! And, about my opinion, well, hard to say... Osmo action 4 is still sometimes better than new one ! But about low lights, point goes to the 5 ! I will keep my 4 for the moment and keep in touch with the firmware updates 😉

Hell yes! Worthy upgrade from my Action 3! Action 5's low light is now on par with or better than Insta360 Ace Pro, the latter which is known for unparalleled low-light quality!
I just ordered the action 5 pro. Not sure if I'll like it over my Insta360 ace pro, BUT why not? The 2 things that made me get it were battery life and the dji mic2 compatibility. Thank you for the review!
The Action 5 Pro dynamic range and low light looks so great and is such an improvement, but I agree that it's also off putting that so much detail gets lost in the highlights.
I have a nasty DJI habit! Just bought the 5 to compliment my mini 3 pro, Pocket 3 and Action 4. I like the fact that it can track at 2.7K and you can link two DJi microphones. The fact it is only human tracking is disappointing - hopefully they will upgrade later.

I think I should have waited and seen a few reviews and bought the discounted Action 4, Just sent my Insta360X3 back to Hong Kong for another repair today and thought I would treat myself to the 5, maybe its got too many bells and whistles on that I will never use and those images in the dark seemed fuzzy and the stonework detail ... 4 seems far better camera

Great comparison! I didn't try guessing which was which at the beginning, but I did like the look of the image on the right better… which ended up being the Action 4.
I noticed when you are sitting in the car and looking at yourself and then looking at the window, I can see more detail outside the window to compare the action 4 which looks a little bit less detailed
Looks like the 5Pro is just applying extra exposure in camera (not actually gathering more light on the sensor) and also trying to apply more noise reduction in conjunction with that which is usually necessary. Hence you're gonna lose some details. Or if it's applying the different exposure and noise reduction sort of dynamically to certain parts of the image, maybe that causes the glow around objects of one brightness suddenly transitioning to a smooth background of another brightness. I BET we can get almost the exact same image (or better?) out of the Action 4 in post with proper exposure fixes and noise reduction.
loved this review. your videos are so thorough with so many examples! feels like you haven't missed any details. regarding pro 5's HDR processing, i definitely prefer action 4's more natural, lower contrast look. but learning how to process pro 5's log for more control seems like an equally viable option.
Very tempting. The longer battery life is the main thing for me. I personally don't like the DJI Mic 2s. I think they're too big and prefer using the Hollyland Lark M2. I also only have the Action 3 so the 5 looks way better. But if I was using the Hollyland, I would have to connect the receive into either of these cameras, so it doesn't make it any better for me. The lowlight is surprisingly good for an action camera, but still sucks compared to something like the Pocket 3 or a mirrorless camera. Also, in all the clips, I thought the 5 looked better except when you were in your car. For some reason in that shot, the 5 looked over-sharpened and had too much contrast.
I do hope that the Dual-Mic connection is just a firmware update that will arrive to DJI Action 4 too. Also, I would stick to my DJI Action 4 and buy that juicy battery instead. Thanks Tamara on the proper feature breakdown and comparison.

I make so many mistakes when filming the ability to long press to delete the clip is a game changer in the P3
So, expectations were higher. Looks like dji is trying some software tricks to make new features, but camera and sensor aren’t that better.

This is the 3rd split screen test I’ve seen today and genuinely prefer the action 4 image over the 5

Being that I have and love my Action 4, the very slight incremental changes in the Action 5 do not warrant an upgrade for me. I know the Action 5 has insane battery life, but my action 4 has been great for my needs in that department as well. Loving my 4!

I'm really torn now, I'm looking for an action cam for low-light underwater filming. The footage quality of the action 4 is better but in many aspects the low-light mode of the action 5 is better for my needs.
The new one is definitely brighter in lower light. Seems like a winner

Yours is the third video I have watched on this today, besides the release video. Less than 1 minute into the first, and I knew that the Action 5 Pro runs rings around the Action 4. This is what the 4 should have been.
That's a bit of an odd one! Wasn't expecting that from the successor of the 4, which in my opinion, has the best footage of all the action cameras, and I absolutely love mine. But yeah, it all looks a bit grey and mushy. I hope they can, and do, fix it. I'm certainly not rushing out to replace the 4, put it that way!

Looks to me that the Action 4 has way more detail in the highlights. I’ve watched a few videos on the Action 5 Pro, and this one has sealed it for me that I don’t need to upgrade from the OA4, so thank you!

Everyone’s wondering why they call this the “pro” version and I think if you look at their product lineup we get an idea of what’s going on. I think they might release a non pro version in a few months. It would explain the pro in the name while also competing with GoPros new hero camera. If you look at their mini lineup of drones they typically release the pro version first and then release a cheaper non pro version with less features a few months later.

They've got my attention, warmth, 10 bit normal, brighter. I've never bought one. This one may get me. Great videos, your accent brings me back to when I used to live in the UK.

@@911eVoX Maybe, but my TV shows much more of a difference than you may be seeing. Are you viewing in 8 bit? Plus, it's only a small price. I buy all cool tech.

One thing that was missed was how quickly you can start a recording from the camera being off. It’s ridiculously quick I’m hearing. That’s a cool feature so you don’t miss something cool happening

9:38 dynamic range different :) Also at low light 5 looks better. Now we w8 for low light compare action 5 vs pocket 3 :) (pls use shutter 1/100 - 1/8000 for walking and 1/50 or 1/60 for panning video) :D :D

Action 5's low light is now on par with or better than Insta360 Ace Pro, the latter which is known for unparalleled low-light quality!
I just ordered the action 5 pro. Not sure if I'll like it over my Insta360 ace pro, BUT why not? The 2 things that made me get it were battery life and the dji mic2 compatibility. Thank you for the review!

The Action 5 Pro dynamic range and low light looks so great and is such an improvement, but I agree that it's also off putting that so much detail gets lost in the highlights.
I have a nasty DJI habit! Just bought the 5 to compliment my mini 3 pro, Pocket 3 and Action 4.
I like the fact that it can track at 2.7K and you can link two DJi microphones.
The fact it is only human tracking is disappointing - hopefully they will upgrade later.

I think I should have waited and seen a few reviews and bought the discounted Action 4, Just sent my Insta360X3 back to Hong Kong for another repair today and thought I would treat myself to the 5, maybe its got too many bells and whistles on that I will never use and those images in the dark seemed fuzzy and the stonework detail ... 4 seems far better camera

For anyone getting into action cameras for the first time, imo, DJI Action 5 is the way to go, over GoPro, hands down.

Thanks for this. I was thought I'd be making the switch from GoPro to DJI this year - but the OA5's image STILL just falls short of GoPro's. That posterized effect you identified is significant - wtf is that. SO FRUSTRATING, because GoPro still has many other limitations that drive me crazy - external mic connectivity being the main one. Ugh. Anyway - GP13 it is...

I got Osmo action 4 it works wonderful personally I don’t see the need to do the upgrade Osmo action 5 PRO saying that I was thinking in getting a second camera like Osmo action 2 and from precious experience Osmo action 4 price will be reduced so I will be keeping an eye on the sales. saying that excellent video wish you well

Great comparison! I didn't try guessing which was which at the beginning, but I did like the look of the image on the right better… which ended up being the Action 4.
I noticed when you are sitting in the car and looking at yourself and then looking at the window, I can see more detail outside the window to compare the action 4 which looks a little bit less detailed
Looks like the 5Pro is just applying extra exposure in camera (not actually gathering more light on the sensor) and also trying to apply more noise reduction in conjunction with that which is usually necessary.
Hence you're gonna lose some details.
Or if it's applying the different exposure and noise reduction sort of dynamically to certain parts of the image, maybe that causes the glow around objects of one brightness suddenly transitioning to a smooth background of another brightness.
I BET we can get almost the exact same image (or better?) out of the Action 4 in post with proper exposure fixes and noise reduction.
loved this review. your videos are so thorough with so many examples! feels like you haven't missed any details. regarding pro 5's HDR processing, i definitely prefer action 4's more natural, lower contrast look. but learning how to process pro 5's log for more control seems like an equally viable option.
Very tempting. The longer battery life is the main thing for me. I personally don't like the DJI Mic 2s. I think they're too big and prefer using the Hollyland Lark M2. I also only have the Action 3 so the 5 looks way better. But if I was using the Hollyland, I would have to connect the receive into either of these cameras, so it doesn't make it any better for me. The lowlight is surprisingly good for an action camera, but still sucks compared to something like the Pocket 3 or a mirrorless camera.
Also, in all the clips, I thought the 5 looked better except when you were in your car. For some reason in that shot, the 5 looked over-sharpened and had too much contrast.
Deliberately came to search and watch if you uploaded a video about the action 5pro
I do hope that the Dual-Mic connection is just a firmware update that will arrive to DJI Action 4 too. Also, I would stick to my DJI Action 4 and buy that juicy battery instead. Thanks Tamara on the proper feature breakdown and comparison.

We’ve been waiting for the Action 5! We do theme park vlogs and want to start doing on ride POV’s, this is perfect. The shots in low light is why we have been waiting for this one.
Quick question on gain level for the mic, what do you set yours to. Every time I have it set to zero it looks like it’s clipping, but doesn’t sound it in post, just curious what yours is

I'm happy with the 4, it produces some amazing footage. Although I do like the footage on the Action 5 at night.
