1) All vegetables can have a place in a diabetes-friendly diet, and yet, certain veggies still contain some possibly harmful properties. So which are the top 5 veggies to watch out for?
2) Butternut Squash is a starchy vegetable, and is amongst the vegetables with the highest carbohydrate count. However, it's still high in vitamins and low in calories.
3) Green peas, on their own, aren't unhealthy. But because they are also high in carb content, eating too many in one sitting may raise your blood sugar higher and faster than other non-starchy vegetables.
4) Celery is a great anti-diabetes snack, as it's low in calories and high in water content. However, celery regularly tops the Dirty Dozen list, a ranking of the most pesticide-heavy produce. Pesticides have been linked to several diseases, including diabetes.
5) Corn is everwhere, as it's been subsidized by the U.S. government. This had led to high fructose corn sweetener being used in a multitude of packaged products. High in carbs and starch, but low in fiber, doctors and nutritionists warn against over-eating corn.
6) White potatoes are quite starchy, and 1 medium potato could have as much as 37 grams of carbs. Cooking potatoes in unhealthy cooking fats can raise their carb content.

My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article ruclips.net/user/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.
*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*
Keep an eye on weight. At her age, triggers can be serious viruses/measles/infections such as rubella.
Yes, get a blood test.
Pretty simple and quick.

For every video telling that certain foods are bad for this or that, you can find sites that say the exact opposite. My doctor told me to test 2 hours after eating a food to see if it was good or bad for you. Everyone has a different reaction to foods.
True, I'm getting tired of hearing about the same food saying it's good , then another saying that same food isn't good...

This is true. White potatoes and butternut squash don't affect my blood sugar. Processed carbs - pasta, rice, flours, are what spike my blood sugars.

All of these are safe for diabetics in moderation. Same as any food. I’ve been eating all of these foods over the 27 years I’ve been type 1 diabetic. Never had any complications so far.
These videos make us more confused.
It’s up to you if you like to follow do it on a gradual basis. & can eat all in a moderate basis not “lamon”per doctor🎁👍💊
Thanks to your advice
Celery is grown in the UK in glasshouses without pesticides
I've eaten a strict low carb diet for 25 years now. I have several friends who are diabetics and my main issue is that a diabetic diet isn't a really low carb diet. It tends to depend on the glycemic value to level off blood sugar instead of fixing the real issue of too much sugar in their diet. We hear this high carb food is low on the glycemic scale so it's okay to eat. The thing is it still has the same amount of insulin requirements but spread out over time. A strict low carb diet lowers the total amount of insulin required. I eat around 12 carbs total a day. My diet consists of meat, fats, seafoods, eggs, cheese, nuts and seeds and around two dozen low carb vegetables. For low carb, winter squash is out, tomatoes and peppers and onions are limited, no grains, potatoes, corn, rice or beans. All are high carb foods. Blood work done twice a year shows no dietary issues and my triglycerides and blood sugar levels are at the bottom of the recommended range. I'm not suggesting a diabetic suddenly go to a strict low carb diet unless they can work with their diabetic doctor to adjust insulin because the requirements are very likely to change. What I'm saying is doctors need to change how they are treating diabetics to reduce the need for insulin and that's a very low or even no carb diet.
My a1c is 6.5 I need help on food I can eat to lower it please. On egg how many I can eat a day I love boil eggs, tia
You tell em. Thanks for the very wise information.
@@virginianalangan6786 I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. My A1-C is also 6.5. I refused to take diabetes medication so my doctor recommended I do low-carb diet together with intermittent fasting (IF). Please check out Dr. Ekberg’s and Dr. Berg’s videos. They both explain low carb diets and IF beautifully. My problem is that I keep falling off the wagon because I’m addicted to bread and pastries but it’s time to get serious now.
I was just diagnosed with T2D I am not on insulin at all. A1C done one time a year was 7. Fasting blood sugar was 134. Dietician said eat every 4 hrs and have up to 45 Grams carbs per meal. What? I'd also like to know who decided serving portions on food nutrition labels. ½ cup? That's what a 5 year old eats. The REAL issue is the entire Food Industry! Stop poisoning everyone with high fructose corn syrup in everything! And they wonder why obesity and diabetes is at alarming issues in the US?
@@virginianalangan6786 Eggs are extremely low carb and full of nutrients. You can actually eat as many as you want. Truth be told most foods that have cholesterol contain far less than your liver manufactures from the carbs you eat. Your liver simply reduces production to maintain the cholesterol levels it's set to keep when you eat high cholesterol foods.
You are absolutely corect. I have seen on my own. God bless you . Thank you!
I usually only eat butternut squash 2-3 times a year and in small quantities.
I add a few pea pods in with my salad 2-3 times a week.
I grow my own celery and tomatoes
I don't each much corn though I eat it raw and plain
I make my own French fries with potato skins cooked in olive oil. I give the middles away to my neighbor's kids.
I only eat the middles due to problems with digesting potato skins and other fibrous parts of vegetables. New potatoes, baby gold or red, however, tend to create tender skins, and I do eat those.

The trick with this is ... you’re allowed to eat these vegetables ,all vegetables are healthy for you but you just have to limit your starchy vegetables intake cause these affect your glucose levels ... so eat these but moderately
@Chan Smith yea but I was specifically referring to diabetics
@Chan Smith moderation is key ... potatoes that are boiled , grilled or steamed with the skin on are high In fiber... eating them in moderation isn’t so bad for you ... like I said MODERATION IS KEY ...
@Chan Smith I guess we’re all different ... avoid eating them

No kidding hey.only got to number 3
100% agree
You make cooking so difficult when it would be just easier to learn what are simple carbs, versus complex carbs, and learning the diabetic plate method, where it is so easy to figure out portions, so you can still enjoy high starch items such as potatoes, but in smaller, healthier quantities. If pesticides are bad for diabetics, then they are bad FOR EVERYONE! Instead, suggest that diabetics buy ORGANIC produce! Maybe it is time to eliminate harmful pesticides and chemicals from our foods, especially here in the U.S. Other countries have done this.

You said don't slather your corn with butter. Why is that? Is butter bad for you? Does butter causes blood sugar to spike? Isn't it actually true that slathering with butter would actually lessen the spikes and should be recommended if you must eat corn?

I found out I had diabetes 2 14 weeks ago, I have lost 13kilos in that 14 weeks thats 28.5 pounds, and I wasnt that fat! Its all carbs and sugar, just cut out carbs and sugars as much as is humanly possible! My blood sugar was 23.5 now 5.2 with max of 6.7 first thing in the morning! I am a 60 year old male. Eat smaller portions cut out carbs sugars and processed foods and you will loose weight and stabilize your glucose levels, its that simple.

Every thing is taboo. And it's a fact. Diabetics feel hungry as well.
@@lorrainefernandes4120 🙄 You can eat most of vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables are very good if you don't have thyroid problem. Okra bitter gourd eggplant all green leaves specially Fenugreek leaves and seeds and nuts.

Eat apples strawberries berries avocados orange guavas peaches. Fish and non vegetarian food can be taken.

when did an onion become a nightshade????
If you want to find out if your body deals well with a food check your sugar 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes after you eat. If your sugar spikes stay away or rarely eat that food. It’s the spikes that do damage.
Onion is not a nightshade veggie. From wikipedia: "The onion (Allium cepa L., from Latin cepa "onion"), also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is a vegetable that is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. Its close relatives include the garlic, scallion, shallot, leek, chive,[2] and Chinese onion.[3]"
The Culprits: Foods on the Nightshade List

Tomatoes (Fruit)
Tomatillo (Fruit)
Potatoes (Vegetable)

I am a meat and potatoes girl....raised in the Midwest, right above that Mason Dixon line.....that was a staple on our table; meat usually fried, with white potatoes and gravy. Hard habits to break! Today, I love an occasional white potato but much prefer red or golden and always with the skin on. I like an occasional butternut squash and adore sweet potatoes, but I try not to over indulge.
I like your message about moderation and portion control especially when it comes to the less than better for you veggies!
When eating corn, throw away the corn and eat the butter. MUCH better for Diabetics...😁

Have been considered borderline diabetic. Over the last 8 years have steadily put on the pounds. At 6' 3" I was at 285 pounds onto 290. Also being treated for high blood pressure. Decided on a diet I read about. The "Potato Diet". Started in November 2020, and now almost the middle of February 2021 I am at 238 pounds as of this morning. Feel better AND eat WHITE "boiled" potatoes (Red and Golden my favorites) with the skin and sliced. With a little yellow mustard to break up the blandness. Also off two medications and my doctors are happy with my results and progress. I am 68.
This is impressive and good on you for going with your gut. This is an accomplishment.

I have eaten cooked potatoes and onions and cabbage and canned green beans and corn and spinach and beans and cooked frozen broccoli for 60 years and those types are easy to digest and I never got diabetes or gained weight from them. Canned or frozen or fresh corn is okay and so is frozen stew vegetables. Stay away from greasy foods and dairy and breads and all sugar products including Stevia and the artificial sweeteners. A teaspoon of maple syrup is okay for coffee. No sodas. I never had a problem with frozen juice or chamomile herbal tea and it keeps the weight down. Buy a padded rocking chair and stay away from recliners. Walk frequently. Occasional rice and pasta is okay. I also eat frozen breaded fish and fresh but baked in seasoning or sauce chicken and occasional red meat. I eat fresh plums and avacados and cantaloupe and apples moderately and canned peaches and pears and these are all easily digested. Canned spinach is much better because it is also easily digested as are canned beans and do not cause gas or bloating. On rare occasions I like Taco Bell or Jack in the Box or Burger King or a restaurant because fast food can cause weight gain. I eat frozen dinners like Healthy Choice too. I rarely eat white rice or pasta dishes or pork chops. Stay away from cold cuts. I also eat canned soups like Healthy Choice and I make Chili and Beef Stew and Cabbage stew. I occasionally have bacon and eggs. No sodas. Very little salt and I use spices and seasonings sparingly. Occasional Walnuts and pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds and flax seeds and chex mix and cheese nips and fresh popcorn and corn chips with bean dip and tortilla chips with hummus and fresh peppers or cucumbers with dip are what I eat for snacks. I am 60 years old and never had diabetes or heart problems or blood pressure problems. I do sometimes have iron deficiency anemia but that is easily corrected with an iron supplement. I take a daily multivitamin. I do not know what can be done about certain pharmaceutical drugs that can cause diabetes and other major health problems. I hope this has been helpful.

In Spanish, nightshades is "solanáceas" (I wasn't familiar with that word in Spanish either). Nunca te acostarás sin saber una cosa más. Not a day goes by without learning something new.
In German it's exact the same. Nachtschattengewaechs. I know, those long German words. It contains Nacht (night) Schatten (shadow) Gewaechs (grow thing).
