Hello and welcome to this weird crevasse of the internet where we get really excited about music (particularly Taylor Swift) and break down our favourite albums and songs. Forever Winter is actually about a Taylor's friend Jeff Lang who committed suicide after suffering from drug overdose and mental health illness. He died two weeks after Speak Now came out and taylor dedicated the award she won for the album to him saying she sang the song at his friend's funeral day before BMI awards.

OK, this is a month old comment, but I'll just skip that. I'm Chilean. As a country, we hug, kiss, would probably grab each other's arms in a similar scenario with the same ease and might occasionally push each other in a soft way. The tender hitting of the arms seems pretty normal too. If something exciting were to happen to me or a friend, I would be grabbing her arm and swaying us in the craziest way. Yep, we are a fun crowd

Forever Winter is speculated to be about Taylor’s old friend Jeff Lang who passed away in 2010. She use to share her music with him before it even went out to public to get his opinion. 😢 she sang during his funeral and won an award the next day and dedicated it to him.

Nothing New breaks my heart because she wrote this before the whole TS is over party debacle after 1989. So she was already worried about how long people would "allow" her to be successful, a concept she mentioned in Miss Americana too, and then people tore her down in exactly the way she feared in Nothing New.

I think the reason that Girl at Home was done different was maybe it was how Taylor originally imagined it to be. She never said it so this is all from pure assumption but from what I remember Girl at Home (2012) felt very unfinished honestly. It's also amazing that this just proves how through these re-recordings, she just can do whatever she wants.
I think she’s said before that Girl At Home stolen version was a demo? Maybe she told Scott she wanted to make it poppy and he said no so she just used the demo! Maybe that’s why it was on the deluxe not the standard because she wasn’t super happy with it?
Forever winter is about a friend from high school. She talked about singing at his funeral getting a BMI award in 2010. Speak now had just come out, so she probably wrote this song as if he was still here regretting she couldn't do more for him.
“The last time” was everything that song walked so “exile” can run! And forever winter hits differently it’s so beautiful!!
This album captured Taylor's true potential as an artist- lyrically and from a production standpoint. The re-release proves who she was always meant to be and now IS.

As someone who struggles with mental health and has had a really rough year where I wanted to leave more times than I can count, Forever Winter makes me absolutely bawl . . . I know it may sound corny, but when I hear her say "please don't go" it feels like it's directed at me. It makes me remember that there are people who'd miss me, who'd fall to pieces on the floor if I left. It reminds me that I'm not just fighting for me and my future self, but my brothers, my mother, my dogs, and everyone who loves me as well. My favorite vault track by far

About the “Fuck the patriarchy” lyric, someone pointed out that it’s probably supposed to be that the keychain had the words “Fuck the patriarchy” instead of it being said by Taylor or Jake. So it brings out his false hipster feminism , and that keychain is so opposite to how he’s treating a woman. I think that’s a very interesting narrative to take too since he’s really painted as a hipster-indie-too-cool-to-try-to-impress-your-dad energy.

That's why it's in quotations. "Fuck the patriarchy" keychain. That he's tossing to her, making her pick up. Hence, the opposite action to the words. My god some people are dense lol
All The Artsy crawl back under the rock you came from buddy. There are two perfectly acceptable explanations for the lyric. It could either be a direct quote from a person or an inscription on the keychain. This channel is a happy place where people come to exchange ideas, not throw insults around.

I think the "Girl at home" taylor's version was the actual sound Taylor envisioned it to be in the original album. And remember that Scott and the management of her label required her to have a certain number of "country-sounding" songs and so they just decided to convert it to the country sound we all grown to know in the first record.
The fact that Taylor featured phoebe on a song that should’ve been on the original album….. she’s trying to kill me. It’s just too offensive and iconic and rude.

This album is just like nostalgia bottled for me, it was such an overwhelming experience hearing Taylor's versions of the songs that I listened to during my teenage years
Do you know that Maya wrote most of the lyrics herself on a blog about Ronans journey? Taylor was so touched by her words that she decided to make a song out of it and Maya is listed as a songwriter for this one.

It's actually crazy how with Nothing New the allusions totally fit with Olivia Rodrigo even though the song was written years ago (as seen in the Lover diaries)

the thing i like about this reaction is that y’all embraced the slight differences in some songs. Some reactors were like “It DoEsnT SOuNd ThE SaMe!” and i was like… yeah, it’s been almost a decade. @@livbarberr They met on the kids choice awards (March 31st, 2012). It was rumored that they were interested in each other after that, and started talking (not quite dating, but yeah). Then some photos of Harry kissing another girl were leaked. So Taylor called off whatever was happening between them (hence "I knew you were trouble" was created, and yes that one is about him bc the guy in the mv has a ship tattoo). So yeah, I think "the very first night" is about Harry, but at the very beginning of their relationship.
It’s not Harry; this is about Jake. Back when Jake Taylor dated he flew her out to London, and they had a romantic hotel date in London. Harry and Taylor only dated later in late 2012 the album was already done then.

The “source” in that quote said, “their hands were up in each other’s hair” but when you look up the photos, there are 0 photos with Harry’s hands in a models hair, or hers in his.
What debunks this as well is after KCA’s, One Direction flew out to Saturday Night Live, located in NY. Taylor flew out too and was there the same week as One Direction, but instead was spending time with Dianna, some singer-guy whomever it was, and Emma Stone. She never visited Harry.
If we believe those rumours, then that means Taylor dated Harry for only 1-week, or actually 3-4 days realistically as soon as they met. It just doesn’t make much sense.

I think part of why her voice sounds so incredible on these recordings is because, unlike when she first recorded them, she has been performing these songs for almost a decade. She knows how the smallest of changes can impact the listener and how to perform the intricacies of each line in the most superior way. Practice makes even better than perfect ✨❤️

I love how in the beginning of forever winter you both perfectly depict the dual nature of the song, Em worried because of the lyrics and bon just vibing to the production
In the very first night, it says “they don’t know about the night in the hotel” and I immediately thought of 1D’s song perfect which is suspected being about Taylor from the line “if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about, baby I’m perfect”, the music video takes place in a hotel room as well and describes that feeling that their love might crash and burn but feels perfect in the moment.
That was after though. If she wrote this in early 2012, and not late 2012 then there’s no chance it’s about him.

I don't even know that it was Taylor deciding "the world's not ready" for the "f*ck the patriarchy" line; If I had to guess I would say the label pressured her to not include it because they wanted to maintain her "good girl" image. I think she really had to censor herself in a lot of ways because of that. And I 100% believe it was in the original because I think Jake probably genuinely had a "F*ck the Patriarchy" keychain because that was the persona he presented to the world but wasn't really living it in their relationship, and I think that's the whole point of that line.
I love this whole friendship dynamic! I wish I had friends like this to freak out over albums with, but at least I have these videos ❤️

I have a feeling that she may not give 1989 tv the same huge come-out publicity because 1989 has already reached a peak at that time with great single choices and Grammy, even though she will add vault songs into it, 1989 does not really have so much regrets for fans and herself as Red does .
But I do feel she may make it similar with red tv when reputation tv is out.😆

Watching in Nov 2022... I discovered you two a few days ago while digging deeper into the midnighTS tracks. I have to say that you two are my new digital besties (which I need because I live alone). You two are so fun, sweet, positively beautiful, and knowledgeable about music, music production, Taylor Swift, lore and lyric... most iconic vault tracks - and i have a suspicion they will keep getting BETTER as we head into 1989 and Rep (REP DOESNT HAVE ANY BONUS TRACKS SO WHATS GONNA HIT US THERE AHHH 2023 ME WILL DIE). Even Speak Now vault songs have to be just written by her and TAYLOR SWIFT (TAYLORS VERSION) WILL BE SUPREME, cant fathom.
I love the album as a whole but I've mostly been bouncing around the vault tracks while listening because they make me so UNWELL. I need to get into Ed's new song, like i had to for Everything Has Changed (which i now absolutely love) so that will happen.
