Girls !! I've seen a lot of reactions to the movie you just need to make it very clear (almost transparent) and reversed and I think youtube won't strike you !!!!
the lyric, “it’s supposed to be fun turning 21” makes me appreciate the song 22 more because it allows you to see why she was so excited for her 22nd birthday because she couldn’t enjoy her 21st
singing quieter every time it seems like a new section might pop up & then IMMEDIATELY shuting up when you hear new lyrics 😭 i love the universal reaction we all went thru lmao
the way the outro repeats “i was there i was there” because she’s trying to convince herself that she does in fact remember it all too well and he did do the things he did to her even though he tried to make her feel like he didn’t do any wrong :( he gaslit her so hard she had to repeat “i was there i remember it” over and over omfg
THIS. This version really shows the gaslighting. The emotional abuse. And her standing up to the manipulation that it existed, that her memory and sense of reality isn’t distorted. It hits hard.

I'm still not over the "Did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?" line. IT'S ABSOLUTE GENIUS. if you didn't know, the concept of a "twin flame" comes from the romantic myth that a soul is split into two halves when you're born and the other half of your soul resides in your soulmate. also, this line has the extra layer that they're both Sagittarius (a fire sign. "twin fire signs, four blue eyes"). the final nail in the coffin is the "blue" part because the hottest part of a flame is always the blue part. she's literally asking him "did this love burn you as much as it burnt me, soulmate?" SHE'S INSANE * sobbing *
@@nealm6764 We don't expect him to care at all. We know where the inspiration from this song comes from but most of us don't give a fuck about him at all. ATW now as a concept is what we're celebrating.

the weight that the lyric “i was there i remember it” has with the new context is insane. she remembers it. SHE WAS THERE. he can pretend it never happened. he can gaslight her and lie to everyone and say it wasn’t serious. but she knows. and she knows he knows. it’s so powerful.

I don’t know if anyone has said it but ‘you never called it what it was, til we were dead and gone and buried’ ties back to State of Grace’s original secret message ‘I LOVE YOU DOESN’T COUNT AFTER GOODBYE’
"When your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones" is also a play on words because saying someone looks "Brooklyn broke" is a slang term for someone who dresses like they don't have money but they actually do. Jake is notorious for dressing like someone dragged him through a thrift store clothes rack despite having the money to actually dress fashionably. In that sense, it's also a tie-in to '22' because of the lyric "It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our exes." I swear to god, this woman is a genius. 💀
I think that Jake's keychain actually said "fuck the patriarchy!" In context, it's more like "oh you call yourself a feminist but you treat women horribly."
Yes! It’s not in quotes because he said it, it’s in quotes because it’s what’s written on the keychain! Like, your ‘fuck the patriarchy’ keychain. But he threw the keys at her and they’re on the ground, which is symbolic of the context you mentioned.

@@nynachetan5585 and at every table.......I'll save you a seat. Let's just flood this with how much we love Joe and can someone please check is Jake is still alive cos I don't know how it's possible after hearing this 10min version of all too well. He must be deeply deceased 🤣
While watching their reaction one more time, I couldn't help but notice a correlation between "just between us did the love affair maim you too?" and "Is this the end of all the endings? my broken bones are mending", since ~maim~ not only means to mutilate, but also to injure someone so severely as to cause lasting damage. I just... I was always pro Joe Alwyn, but this is getting ridiculous. I mean, their love is completely different from the love she sings in Red. I'm so happy for her 🥺
I will never get over the parallel of telling Jake "You never called it what it was" and then her talking about Joe "CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT." Like their love is just so superior it doesn't even matter. 😭
Apparently, All Too Well was the first song she wrote for Red, so it makes perfect sense why all the lyrics link back to all the other songs on the album. It's like she knew she'd have to cut all of it down, but she wanted all of what she mentioned in All Too Well, originally, to be mentioned on the album so she wrote all the other songs, like, making sure those lyrics were mentioned, just in a different way...omg. HER MIND!
The line "the first fall of snow, and how it glistened as it fell" is also a reference to a Twitter post she made the night before her 21st birthday. Her tweet said: "Snowflakes are flurrying down outside and it's my last day of being 20!" That line just guts me thinking how excited she was and how she was looking forward to her party where everyone she cared about would be there, and then he ruined the whole thing.
I think "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" is less about losing his weight and being free but actually losing her own weight and more like: That love affair was like a war and it wrecked me so badly I'm barely alive now but the war's over now and I am still alive (but also maimed). I think it shows even more how deeply this thing hurt her…
And also it reminded me that she went through disordered eating and got down to a really unhealthy size in her early 20s, I wonder if she’s referring to that as another layer within this line as well as the soldier metaphor?
god, i was intensely hyping myself down for this song, because i didn’t want to be disappointed & i couldn’t imagine ATW getting any better- but HOLY CRAP she did it. it’s so phenomenal.
Same 😭 I kept telling myself that the extra parts will mostly just be instrumental and that'll it'll probably be just as good as normal ATW just longer, but this is INSANE I can't believe how good the song actually is and how she actually surpassed the hype
For some reason the lines "Cause in this city's barren cold I still remember the first fall of snow And how it glistened as it fell I remember it all too well" makes me sob everytime without fail
this is my absolute favorite part of this 10 minute version, its just SO. GOOD. How the brought back "all too well" and the melody and omg i'm cryiiiing

I've never considered myself a Taylor Swift fan, although I have enjoyed her hits on the radio. Since I've delved into this album and started actually analyzing the lyrics, I'm struck by how talented and masterful she truly is.
Yeah, she really is. It's sad how some people still see her as a "typical main pop girl" with her hit songs. They really don't know what they're missing out and how genius she is. Many people think all of her fans are just shallow kids or teenagers with nothing else to do but they don't know that Taylor has THIS side. She's been showing it in all her albums- it's just typically not her main tracks but they're still treasure nevertheless.

Nothing wrong about writing a song about anyone she wants, but having a whole video campaign about pitting woman against Katy, and trying to find every big A-list name she could pull as me vs you, was whack. What doubles down her pettiness? The fact that she backtracks years later and went out of her way to blame “the media” when it was her who was out for revenge regarding Katy. Isn't "I love you doesn't count after goodbye" the secret message for State of Grace? Makes total sense that he didn't call it "what it was" until after it was already over!!
Yess!! And in Sad Beautiful Tragic a line goes “kiss me, try to fix it, could you just try to listen?” Which is exactly the scene portrayed after the fight scene in the short video. Like he doesn’t event want to be bothered to listen the reason why she is pissed off, as soon as she starts arguing and she HAS a point he just storms off and then kisses her to make up without actually listening to what she is saying! Genius
And also i just realized that in sad beautiful tragic she says “words, how little they mean when you are little too late” so he did say ILY eventually. But she has already moved on!! Ahh that’s crazy
The lyric about the patriarchy she was saying he had a keychain that said “fuck the patriarchy” that was on the ground, and how ironic it was that he’d have a keychain like that while he’s yelling at her and being a misogynist
Girl, thank you. People also seem to be forgetting their age difference all the sudden as well. Jake is very into all the philosophy shit and that is 100% something he would say and believe in.
Absolutely- it's classic performative activism where he's like such a feminist but then also has a 20 year old girlfriend as an ornament to make him look better; but also I love the idea that he metaphorically dropped his feminism and then that's when she picked it up like almost as if this was the genesis of her being a feminist
He didn't have a keychain that had that quote on it. He was tossing her the keys, saying to her, "[Screw] the patriarchy." Like, forget that the "man" always drives, you can drive. Then, she says, keychain on the ground, and on.
You lot are the first reactors I've seen that really appreciate the line "The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel, whose shine reflects on you." Almost immediately that was my favorite new lyric because it so succinctly describes people who view their partner as a status symbol instead of an actual human being.
this also makes me think of the whole “america’s sweetheart” image expected of her for so many years. never needy- don’t be over emotional and write about breakups. ever lovely- just be shiny and entertain us

I find the lyric "double cross my mind" so genius because as we all know "double cross" is a synonym for "betray" and it's like her mind is "betraying her" by thinking about him.
On another note. I was crying like a baby when I heard the lyrics " it's supposed to be fun, turning 21". I'm heartbroken for her that she had to go through such a painful thing on her 21 birthday. I mean, it's a big deal for everyone, right? But then one year later she had her "I don't know about you, but i'm feeling 22" moment, so empowering, coming of age..so glad that her 22 birthday was the one she would have deserved on her 21st
i took the line “you who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes // sipping coffee like you were on a late night show” to mean that jake even got her dad’s stamp of approval. he was let into her life, her father liked him, “but then he watched [her] watch the front door all night willing [him] to come” and that’s why it hurt even more. he had everyone fooled, and didn’t just hurt her, but hurt her family as well. the “but” there implies a contradicting statement, yknow? like her dad was originally charmed by him *but* he was also there when jake’s not so nice sides showed ANYWAYS!! LOVE THE VIDEO GUYS, ITS ALWAYS SO FUN TO SHARE THE EXCITEMENT WITH YOU
The way "autumn leaves fall like pieces into place" symbolizes the relationships sweet beginning and then the "first fall of snow" symbolizes the ending;(((( absolutely devastating
Watching your every video takes me back to the exact moments of hearing and/or watching (or, um, EXPERIENCING) a brand new Taylor Swift album/song/video the very first time. You guys are such a joy to watch. ❤
“In this city’s barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow, and how it glistened as it fell.” Is now one of my FAVOURITE Taylor lyrics ever. It’s like she’s saying he was almost incapable of loving her, how she almost knew that going into the relationship with him but still hoped for something, but then he started showing signs that he was growing distant from her, but how even then she looked for beauty in him. That first fall of snow, those very first signs that you’re losing him, mixed in with the beauty of it glistening.
This is my favorite (new) line as well. I didn't get it at first, but I see the first fall of snow as the beautiful glistening beginning of the relationship, and the city's barren cold as the harsh reality that she's living in after the beauty has gone away.
To me it seems like once the barren cold of winter hits, you almost can't seem to remember what it was like when it was first starting to get a little chilly, that the harsh cold just takes over your memories. But, she remembers even what the first fall of snow felt like. She remembers every.single.detail. It's so powerful.

Did anyone else also possibly get the vibe that "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" could have been in reference to Taylor's struggle with her eating disorder? A serious breakup like this would really trigger those kinds of self image issues and the documentary placed the worst of her struggle during the Red/1989 period. Heartbreaking no matter how you interpert it.
No. I've seen a ton of talk about it, but I think people need to stop. She never said she had an eating disorder, but that she did have some disordered eating and exercising practices. She was also incredibly thin before, but dressed in less tight and less revealing clothing before Red. Who knows? It's not our business to speculate when and why she began her struggle.
RED is the color of passion as well as anger. It makes sense that the All Too Well 10min version, the first song she wrote in the album, would have more of an angry undertone. Like reminiscing everything then thinking why did I let it happen but still miss the person and the moments when it was perfect... just like the vault track Better Man
The “sacred prayer and we’d swear to remember it” lyric reminded me of Cornelia Street where she says “sacred new beginnings that became my religion.” Another example of imagery/language in her heartbreak being reframed in a positive way later in her loving relationship. I’m so happy that she has found this amazing love with Joe 😭
“A never needy, ever lovely jewel, whose shine reflects on you” made me think of Mirrorball!!! 🧣 The Short Film part of Sadie washing dishes made me think of “I sit and listеn, I polish plates until they gleam and glistеn. You're so much older and wiser and I” Also in the Short Film. The very beginning where Sadie is like “are you real? I feel like I made you up” and the outro has this beautiful repetition, like “flashbacks and echoes”. Almost as if she’s convincing herself it did happen, he was real. A soft acceptance and release of what once was. Love that the song starts in Autumn and ends with the first fall of snow.
I LOVE the mirrorball parallel. I hadn't picked up on your specific tolerate it parallel, but I had thought that "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" paralleled "gain he wight of you then loose it" and now I'm convinced
I was also wondering if starting out with “I feel like I might’ve just made you up” (can’t remember the exact line) is foreshadowing for the gaslighting that would come later

Emily's face on hearing "You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath" was exactly my reaction when hearing it. Besides it just being genius, it was the realization that a line that genius WAS CUT OUT OF THE ORIGINAL VERSION! How is that even possible?
This! There are sooo many women/people who are in relationships like this! You wake up every single day with both the highest hopes that your love will be fully returned but also get your heart re-broken every single day when it doesn’t happen. Unfortunately it’s easy to remember those many many days. All too well. It’s exhausting!
Seriously, this woman makes my brain hurt. All too well was already a masterpiece. Now it has reached another level of greatness. Now that the full version is here, the first version makes me think of a movie soundtrack that plays in bits and pieces throughout the movie. In contrast, this full version is like hearing that same soundtrack in its entirety at the end of the movie when the credits roll.
I love how this version and the short film completely change the meaning...'I remember it all too well' used to feel sweet and nostalgic and sentimental, now it feels like she is addressing the gaslighting he did in their relationship. She is telling him he can't pretend the relationship wasn't real or rare or powerful, or that he didn't treat her like shit, because she remembers it ALL. And it probably took her a while to reclaim and trust her own memory of everything because that's what gaslighting does !! AHH
I don't know if you guys addressed this concept or not but I believe the reason Taylor kept repeating " I was there " ( especially in the 10 minute version) is because he made her feel like everything they've been through wasn't in fact what she thought it was. She had the idea that it was love which he refused to admit and so when he broke up with her there was this gaslighting/ manipulation feel that he didn’t see it the way she did which maybe made her doubt all the moments they've experienced that were pure love, so she keeps repeating the concept of I was there I am sure I remember it in an attempt to prove that it in fact happened the way she saw it. I don't know if that makes sense but it's very striking after the short film and the 10 minute version! I love you so much, guyss
Can we talk about how genius "In this city's barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell" is?! Literally saying that when snow first falls it's beautiful and glistening and exciting, just like when she was falling in love. But the snow led to barren cold. The more it falls, the worse it gets. Just as the more she falls, the worse it gets.
NOTE that she says "if we had been closer in age maybe it would've been fine" THEN "i'll get older but your lovers stay my age" showing that he lied and that was not at all the reason he broke it off
And of course age is one of the few things a person can’t change/has zero control over so it’s an infuriating reason (in the moment) to break up with someone because of. (and even more infuriating when he/she continues to date younger people)
"They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new hell" - All Too Well versus "All's well that ends well to end up with you"- Lover. I AM UNWELL WITH THIS PARALLEL. The fact that now Taylor is in a relationship that no matter how bad the fight or how hard the relationship can be, it is worth it. That it is worth it, to end up with him. Listening to all too well and sobbing over how heartbroken she was to listening to lover and realizing that she finally found the love she deserves.
Also more notes on the “i’m a soldier who’s returning half her weight”: She references the relationship as a war she’s coming back from, and it’s known that when soldiers return from war the look malnourished and physically will, which also implies that the breakup had an impact on her heath (she lost a lot of weight - which also connects to tolerate it “gain the weight of you then loose it” and what you guys said)
I heard it as she's been through war with this relationship and is returning half her weight as in she's returning her other half - which was Jake at the time.
@@mariarios_19 I love reading all these interpretations. Each line can have so many different meanings and it really creates a personal experience for each listener. Taylor is a lyrical genius.

Your reaction has me sobbing all over again. This is exactly how I felt - and we all felt - hearing this song that means so much to us and to her for the first time. 😭
omg I love the moment where you guys talk about how the 10 minute version is the break-up from beginning to end: she's angry, she grieves, she let's go. I think that's definitely what she originally intended and she knew that could only be truly conveyed in the 10 minute version! I love your videos so much, this was very entertaining to watch!!
Am I the only one who never thought that the “cause here we are again” chorus stands for them being together again after they broke up??? Like she is literally giving us the storyline of what happened and it totally makes sense bc we know that they actually did broke up and got back together several times!
Yeah up until now even i thought it meant more like going back to that memory mentally, thinking about different parts of the relationship like 'there we are again' haha
This is incredible 😭😭😭 I laughed, I cried, my heart stopped and broke at the same time, I really wish I had recorded my first reaction to listening to it but it was similar to this 😂😭💔
"I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" is like soldiers returning from war or service traumatized, haunted, and literally starving/underweight/emaciated. And it hits even HARDER when you consider she went into the 1989 era with an eating disorder. I am simply leveled.
I never though of it that way and WOW that line hits so much harder. I always made the connection between that line and “tolerate it” where she says “gain the weight of you then lose it” where “weight” is referring to the emotional baggage she got from the whole relationship. But yeah, this interpretation is depressing…
Every swiftie in the world waits for chats and reacts uploads after Taylor’s releases! This is the perfect representation of how we all feel and reacted personally as well. I’m un-freaking-well
14:23 My biggest secret is that I'm just like these two for Taylor Swift songs like this. I will never reveal it to my friends, but I almost exclusively listen to Taylor Swift and absolutely jam out on my own. I'm the most stereotypical straight white dude in history, but this shit is the best, idc what people say.
"I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" makes me think of the fact that she eventually moved to New York but with a different and better perspective! This is my favorite video ever. PSYCHED for the next one! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
This is the DEFINITIVE reaction. This version of All Too Well makes Coney Island hit so much harder too, “and you were standing in the hallway, with the big cake, happy birthday…” like… OUCH. 🤕 This song is a masterpiece in storytelling, and a masterclass in writing. 💖
Guys, I NEEDED THIS! As much as I appreciate others reacting to Taylor, you guys match the intense emotions and understanding of new lyrics and what they mean for Taylor. Every time I listen to this song I gets chills and want to scream at the new lyrics. I feel like we are all best friends that live in a different Taylor Swift universe, the break down and understanding context of Taylor is so necessary! I desperately needed your reactions ❤️
unrelated to t swift but you two seem to have the most beautiful, loving friendship. it's so sweet the way you instinctively grab for each others hands/arms like its second nature. like y'all are just a really pure expression of true friends and its rare and lovely to come across :')
OMG I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING Cara was so right about the saying “I love you” after they break up, Taylor even alludes to it slightly in we are never ever getting back together: “you hate me, we break up, you call me , I love you” Such a small detail but it confirms that he never said it was love until it was all over… shit I CANT BELIevE THIS
That line "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" is so sad for me 🥺 but she also said in her RED album "I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M FEELING 22" means she already moved on about what just happened in her past years ❤️
SO SORRY WHAT !!! WE ARE ALL TOO UNWELL 😭😭
YOU ARE THE BEEEEEEEST!!!!! WE ARE ALL DEEPLY UNWELL
Girls !! I've seen a lot of reactions to the movie you just need to make it very clear (almost transparent) and reversed and I think youtube won't strike you !!!!
Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven to They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new Hell LIKE YOURE KIDDING
what if the actress was Selena Gomes??? ❤️
It's about time!!!!!!been waiting for this reaction!!!!
the lyric, “it’s supposed to be fun turning 21” makes me appreciate the song 22 more because it allows you to see why she was so excited for her 22nd birthday because she couldn’t enjoy her 21st

pausing the singing between each section to make sure it’s not new is such a universal experience for all of us 😭😭😭 I love this so much
That was hilarious nd so relatable 😆😆
This experience is so hard to put into words, but I know we all feel it !! ❤️
singing quieter every time it seems like a new section might pop up & then IMMEDIATELY shuting up when you hear new lyrics 😭 i love the universal reaction we all went thru lmao
I KNOW RIGHT LOLLLL literally I did the same!!! 🤣
@@jennaxm I’m dying over that, especially the blonde girl she is so me 🤣
the way the outro repeats “i was there i was there” because she’s trying to convince herself that she does in fact remember it all too well and he did do the things he did to her even though he tried to make her feel like he didn’t do any wrong :( he gaslit her so hard she had to repeat “i was there i remember it” over and over omfg
THIS. This version really shows the gaslighting. The emotional abuse. And her standing up to the manipulation that it existed, that her memory and sense of reality isn’t distorted. It hits hard.
Every time I hear the outro I think of this 😭😭😭
I just had a goosebumps
HELP WHY IS THIS SO SAD
@@vanessalesser7032 Where Taylor Swift stands alone is the sheer number and specific “types” relationships she has had. Her list of relationships dwarfs most, and virtually all of them have that fake “publicity stunt” feel to them, even if the guys involved don’t seem to initially know that’s all they are. There’s also a serial killer-esque pattern to them. They involve already famous men who are having a particular upswing in notoriety at the moment she starts seeing them.
Additionally, their connections to Swift seem completely generated out of thin air. Taylor Lautner, out of nowhere. Eddie Redmayne, out of nowhere.
"twin fire signs, four blue eyes").
the final nail in the coffin is the "blue" part because the hottest part of a flame is always the blue part.
she's literally asking him "did this love burn you as much as it burnt me, soulmate?"
SHE'S INSANE
* sobbing *
omg genius
Omg thank you for explaining!
The blue also refers to the bruise color..... When u hit a part of ur body and it turns blue and stays blue for a while......
Blew my mind
and "losing him was blue like i'd never known" taylor loves her colour symbolism
He gaslighted her so bad that she had to write a song to repeat herself that all that things happened and he remembers it too

the weight that the lyric “i was there i remember it” has with the new context is insane. she remembers it. SHE WAS THERE. he can pretend it never happened. he can gaslight her and lie to everyone and say it wasn’t serious. but she knows. and she knows he knows. it’s so powerful.

I don’t know if anyone has said it but ‘you never called it what it was, til we were dead and gone and buried’ ties back to State of Grace’s original secret message ‘I LOVE YOU DOESN’T COUNT AFTER GOODBYE’
oh my god
and "words, how little they mean when you're a little too late" from SBT
Oh my gosh!
THIS! 🎉
In that sense, it's also a tie-in to '22' because of the lyric "It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our exes."
I swear to god, this woman is a genius. 💀

Yeah exactly, it’s an ironic thing which makes it brilliantttt
i thought the same thing
Yes! It’s not in quotes because he said it, it’s in quotes because it’s what’s written on the keychain! Like, your ‘fuck the patriarchy’ keychain.
But he threw the keys at her and they’re on the ground, which is symbolic of the context you mentioned.

@@kaylajones1370 I completely agree but I'm not touching this 13 likes comment 🤭

Oh my gosh, I never even noticed!!!! Great observation!
This is so sad to read now 😭
Apparently, All Too Well was the first song she wrote for Red, so it makes perfect sense why all the lyrics link back to all the other songs on the album. It's like she knew she'd have to cut all of it down, but she wanted all of what she mentioned in All Too Well, originally, to be mentioned on the album so she wrote all the other songs, like, making sure those lyrics were mentioned, just in a different way...omg. The line "the first fall of snow, and how it glistened as it fell" is also a reference to a Twitter post she made the night before her 21st birthday. Her tweet said: "Snowflakes are flurrying down outside and it's my last day of being 20!"
That line just guts me thinking how excited she was and how she was looking forward to her party where everyone she cared about would be there, and then he ruined the whole thing.
I think "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" is less about losing his weight and being free but actually losing her own weight and more like: That love affair was like a war and it wrecked me so badly I'm barely alive now but the war's over now and I am still alive (but also maimed). I think it shows even more how deeply this thing hurt her…
In the end I think this is all related to clean DAMN
And also it reminded me that she went through disordered eating and got down to a really unhealthy size in her early 20s, I wonder if she’s referring to that as another layer within this line as well as the soldier metaphor?
Yep. When I had my first heart break I lost like 20lbs. It was horrible
the double entendre there is so clever too ahh
I think it's also metaphorical, and that's why she sings about being maimed later on - some parts of her (soul) were lost/died.

Bonny and Emily (and friends) have surpassed themselves. Didn't think it could get better than the Folklore reaction but I was wrong!

OH MY GOD
WOW OMG
Also, in her SNL performance she changed up the beat during that particular line for emphasis and I am obsessed with it.
this also makes me think of the whole “america’s sweetheart” image expected of her for so many years. never needy- don’t be over emotional and write about breakups. ever lovely- just be shiny and entertain us

But then one year later she had her "I don't know about you, but i'm feeling 22" moment, so empowering, coming of age..so glad that her 22 birthday was the one she would have deserved on her 21st

to mean that jake even got her dad’s stamp of approval. he was let into her life, her father liked him,
“but then he watched [her] watch the front door all night willing [him] to come”
and that’s why it hurt even more. he had everyone fooled, and didn’t just hurt her, but hurt her family as well. the “but” there implies a contradicting statement, yknow? like her dad was originally charmed by him *but* he was also there when jake’s not so nice sides showed

I NOTICED THAT!!!
Wow
“In this city’s barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow, and how it glistened as it fell.” Is now one of my FAVOURITE Taylor lyrics ever. It’s like she’s saying he was almost incapable of loving her, how she almost knew that going into the relationship with him but still hoped for something, but then he started showing signs that he was growing distant from her, but how even then she looked for beauty in him. That first fall of snow, those very first signs that you’re losing him, mixed in with the beauty of it glistening.
This is my favorite (new) line as well. I didn't get it at first, but I see the first fall of snow as the beautiful glistening beginning of the relationship, and the city's barren cold as the harsh reality that she's living in after the beauty has gone away.
well one day before taylor's 21st birthday she said on tumblr how the snow was glistening so i think it references to that
To me it seems like once the barren cold of winter hits, you almost can't seem to remember what it was like when it was first starting to get a little chilly, that the harsh cold just takes over your memories. But, she remembers even what the first fall of snow felt like. She remembers every.single.detail. It's so powerful.
@@hammypack6077 Where Taylor Swift stands alone is the sheer number and specific “types” relationships she has had.
Harry Styles, out of nowhere, Jake Gyllenhal, out of nowhere. Her current relationship with Tom Hiddleston, once again, out of nowhere. At no point has a relationship with her ever seemed to grow organically out of an incidental interaction. They seem almost focus grouped ahead of time. It’s like her agent is running a dating site just for her, and doing a deliberately terrible job of finding a match.
Yet each of these two-month dalliances that consist of two-to-three dates ends up being the subject of one of her songs, or at least a rumored subject (the media loves to speculate on those). Most of those songs imply the kind of deep emotional connection and true heartbreak warranted by a long term relationship where she and her partner become inextricable parts of each other’s lives. As someone in a real relationship, this deeply offends me. She has never committed herself to the kind of partnership and bond that warrants such a level of emotionality, at least not in public. In short, she hasn’t “earned it” when it comes to those types of songis.
and her voice falls and sounds beautiful like falling snow
Emily's "sacred prayer" "sacred prayer", "it was rare" "it was rare" had me dying
i love that she’s gone from ‘you never called it what it was’ to ‘call it what you want’ and from ‘they say all’s well that ends well but i’m in a new hell’ to ‘all’s well that ends well to end up with you’
she’s so happy with Joe and the connections in this song make me appreciate CIWYW and Lover even more
omg the ciwyw connection😭!!!
Heartbreaking no matter how you interpert it.
omg
I thought the same 😔 feeling unwanted can lead you to trying to "perfect" yourself chasing society's standards
YES that was my first thought
yes! That lead her to the disorder on 1989!
The Short Film part of Sadie washing dishes made me think of “I sit and listеn, I polish plates until they gleam and glistеn. You're so much older and wiser and I”
Also in the Short Film.
YOU DID NOT JUST DO THIS TO ME no! help?!
I LOVE the mirrorball parallel. I hadn't picked up on your specific tolerate it parallel, but I had thought that "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" paralleled "gain he wight of you then loose it" and now I'm convinced
omg “tolerate it” parallels, felt that too
THE TOLERATE IT PARALLELS YES
I was also wondering if starting out with “I feel like I might’ve just made you up” (can’t remember the exact line) is foreshadowing for the gaslighting that would come later
23:33 … Bonny looking up to the sky like she saw snowflakes falling in the middle of Australia summer the moment Taylor sang “…and how it glistened as it fell, I remember it all too well”❄️😭
I loved seeing all of you react to Taylor’s new version of “ All Too Well”.
As a retired teacher I taught many kind, loving and dedicated Swifties who shared their love for Taylor with me.
Taylor brings all people together and she is truly a blessing.
I cried my eyes out listening to Taylor and watching you , her devoted fans singing , reacting , crying and loving beautiful Taylor not only as a singer but as a woman.
This grandma loves Taylor and all her Swifties… I’ll be the Swifties Grandma if you ever need one.
I love Taylor and her beloved fans. Keep Shining and making videos as you too are bringing people together. I bet Taylor would love to see this and if she does I would say “ Taylor, your fans are the best in the world as they are always with you. Their love for you is unconditional and a blessing. “
Thank You for this beautiful reaction video as you made my day. I will always buy Taylor’s music and support her and her fans every single day.
May each day bring you blessings and May all your dreams come true.
Love ,
Grammy Sue

Emily's face on hearing "You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath" was exactly my reaction when hearing it. Besides it just being genius, it was the realization that a line that genius WAS CUT OUT OF THE ORIGINAL VERSION! How is that even possible?
Literally my new favorite part of the song it hurts SO BAD😭😭💜
This! There are sooo many women/people who are in relationships like this! You wake up every single day with both the highest hopes that your love will be fully returned but also get your heart re-broken every single day when it doesn’t happen. Unfortunately it’s easy to remember those many many days. All too well. It’s exhausting!
"oh no it's Jack Antonoff" honestly mood, i have a breakdown whenever this duo works together
This is my comfort video, I think I've rewatched this at least 10 times just for the pure serotonin
He was just a gaslighter
yeah like he decided to forget that he dropped her hand
Can we talk about how genius "In this city's barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell" is?! Literally saying that when snow first falls it's beautiful and glistening and exciting, just like when she was falling in love. But the snow led to barren cold. The more it falls, the worse it gets. Just as the more she falls, the worse it gets.
I love this interpretation!
NOTE that she says "if we had been closer in age maybe it would've been fine" THEN "i'll get older but your lovers stay my age" showing that he lied and that was not at all the reason he broke it off
Yeah that's the punchline, the irony.
wow incredible catch
HAVE BEEN WAITING AHHHHHHH
Oh Hi fellow Simmer
I didn't know you like Taylor Swift lol
@@lufeitosa9744 he referenced Taylor sometimes on his video
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE NOW
Wait.. why is pixelade here?
Also more notes on the “i’m a soldier who’s returning half her weight”: She references the relationship as a war she’s coming back from, and it’s known that when soldiers return from war the look malnourished and physically will, which also implies that the breakup had an impact on her heath (she lost a lot of weight - which also connects to tolerate it “gain the weight of you then loose it” and what you guys said)
yesss and how much anxiety they have and their faith in love or hope about life is crushing
I heard it as she's been through war with this relationship and is returning half her weight as in she's returning her other half - which was Jake at the time.
@@imacatgorl yess, it makes sense. i just thought about physical weight bc she had an ED and idk, it just made sense with the soldier thing
@@mariarios_19 I love reading all these interpretations. Each line can have so many different meanings and it really creates a personal experience for each listener. Taylor is a lyrical genius.
Gosh, this makes me look at "tolerate it" in a new light - it is even more soul crushing now. 😭
i’m going to be completely honest.. i watch this at least 3 times a day

"it's supposed to be fun, turning 21" and then 22 is the next song. that makes so much sense now
I love how she said “less screaming” then she proceeds to screaming lol such genuine reactions from these beautiful girls
I’m not even 21 so I can’t believe Taylor wrote this masterpiece after such heartbreak at a young age!!
“IT WAS RARE…RARE” *nods aggressively* 😂
Your review was the most comprehensive analysis from the sing structure to the lyric breakdown to the melodies! I appreciate all of you!
“The idea you had of me who was she, a never needy ever lovely jewel who’s shine reflects on you” was one of my favorite lyrics ever written.
I think Come Back Be Here might have been about their distance. Maybe he was always “leaving” her (or the relationship.
I am simply leveled.
yes it totally hits a different way after considering her ed
I never though of it that way and WOW that line hits so much harder. I always made the connection between that line and “tolerate it” where she says “gain the weight of you then lose it” where “weight” is referring to the emotional baggage she got from the whole relationship.
But yeah, this interpretation is depressing…
It's a little much, she broke up with her movie star boyfriend, she's not a soldier.
What's next, comparing herself to a starving child.
@@shinybeast8946 you must be so smart that you weren't properly taught literature in school 😍
"This is who she was before she had the confidence to be." YAS!
Every swiftie in the world waits for chats and reacts uploads after Taylor’s releases! This is the perfect representation of how we all feel and reacted personally as well. I’m un-freaking-well
When the world needed them most they fucking delivered ..yes gurls love this reaction
THIS IS THE COMMENT. This one right here.
Facts my man. Took my wife to the Eras tour a few days ago and inside I was like every screaming girl, just trying to play it cool 😂
"I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" makes me think of the fact that she eventually moved to New York but with a different and better perspective!
This is my favorite video ever. PSYCHED for the next one! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
It also makes me think of the line "gain the weight of you then lose it" in tolerate it!!
I love y’all so much omg
Every once in a while I have to revisit old Emily and Bonnie reactions. This is one of my favorites!
This is the DEFINITIVE reaction.
This version of All Too Well makes Coney Island hit so much harder too, “and you were standing in the hallway, with the big cake, happy birthday…” like… OUCH. 🤕
This song is a masterpiece in storytelling, and a masterclass in writing.
Can we talk about the fact she saved "All's well that ends well" for Lover?
Yes we can! Just ICONIC. No other words needed. ICONIC
OMG I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING
Cara was so right about the saying “I love you” after they break up, Taylor even alludes to it slightly in we are never ever getting back together: “you hate me, we break up, you call me , I love you”
Such a small detail but it confirms that he never said it was love until it was all over… shit I CANT BELIevE THIS
Also in Sad, Beautiful Tragic when she says "Words, how little they mean when you're a little too late."
That line "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" is so sad for me 🥺 but she also said in her RED album "I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M FEELING 22" means she already moved on about what just happened in her past years ❤️
im sure Taylor will see this, if she hasnt yet, and she will be proud. This is literally the quintessential swiftie reaction!
