  • Man, these structural fiberglass columns really dressed up the front of the pool house! The porch needed a little weight, and these double columns definitely gave it. These columns act as double duty. They support a sizeable load and add that touch of class. Ill post a link, but these columns are made by ‪@turncraftcolumns6139‬ . I've installed several over the years, inside of homes as well as the outside. Being that they are fiberglass, they really hold up well to the elements.

For the brackets that hold the fiberglass columns, proper procedure as per manufacturers I have seen is to predrill holes through the sides of the columns before installing the columns and use a bolt with washer and nut to secure the bracket to the side of the column. Putting screws into holes as you show in the video stresses the structure of the wall of the fiberglass column and depending upon the size and taper of the screw you select, the screw can weaken and even fracture the column wall reducing it's load bearing effectiveness.

If you predrill the correct size hole, as I did… I’m not stressing or compromising the column. It’s a vertical load anyhow. Brackets are simply to hold it in place. No lateral forces here

    Thank you for the video.
I have a small crack horizontally on a column that was half placed on each side of the house .
What cap I use to fill in the crack and in the joints at the base. I am repainting mine.
    Thanks.

Good video. Thanks. I added two columns years ago to my entry niche. Removed them to recently install new flooring. Now I need to trim them to fit. I'm curious as to what blade you used to trim your columns?

Can you tell me what screws you used for both the fiberglass and the masonry? Thanks
