      Seems to be a lot of smart people who use their head for something other than a hat rack. BTW: When you paint PVC, be careful to use a paint that won’t damage the PVC. Some paints will destroy PVC!! OOPS! I just added another comment! My bad. Hope Charlie doesn’t fuss at me!!

    For everyone asking, the black pipe was cheaper than PVC in my area. As for painting it, both ABS and PVC pipe will start to degrade in the sunlight; UV light is not friendly to plastic. I painted it a cream color so that it has a nice, shiny finish, thus helping reflect more of the light. I hope everyone enjoys the video. Don't forget to subscribe. Hometalk has a video out every day showing you some amazing DIY crafts and projects.

    That's not pvc it's abs pipe, just sayin....

  • @bjaydubya
    @bjaydubya Год назад +55

    I’m sure other’s mentioned it in some way, but just to be clear. ABS is not PVC and black pipe is ABS. Neither white PVC or black ABS are UV stable and will degrade with UV light. The paint will help a bit, but it will likely warp and peel pretty quickly under hot sunlight, and eventually it’ll become brittle. It’s possible that it could happen within a single summer in the right place.
    One way you could do something similar (with more cost) is utilize gray schedule 80 pipe. The gray sch 80 typically have UV stabilizers, or you can find ABS that is UV stabilized to help solve that issue.
    One idea would be to utilized galvanized dryer vent solid wall tubing. It’s a similar size, light weight, and you can prime and paint it, and still drill it in a similar manner, and it will last far longer.

      The 40+ year old PVC plumbing for my poo pumpl, which is in the sun most of the day, says that PVC can last a while with the UV light.
      If you paint it properly, the paint will block the UV for years.

    • @bjaydubya
      @bjaydubya Год назад +6

      @@javaman2883 a decade of installing and repairing irrigation systems build from pvc pipe would disagree with manufacturers claims. Certainly painting will extend the life and help reduce UV degradation, but paint doesn’t stick well and I’ve rarely seen it last in the full sun more than a few years.

      @@javaman2883 The presence of poo inside a PVC pipe actually nullifies the UV effect and causes the PVC to last quite long. (i.e. your poo pipe) So a good idea would be to soak the PVC in a bucket of poo for a couple days before painting it and making this project. (youtube / vid project) Just make sure the bucket you soak in is absolutely FOS. (Use the current White House administration as example as the equivalent of being FOS.)

Not thinking that I was doing it in the winter (that 2 week cold period we get), that this would be a terrible idea later on. That dash melted and the pieces moved all around but stayed together. Only thing was, it wasnt a clean look anymore AND I couldnt open the compartment in the dash anymore, the one above the stereo Haha. Yeah, lesson learned on that one. Dont try to fix anything that will be exposed to the Texas weather and sun light with hot glue. Not my proudest moment.

      The only "tool" that was required is a saw to cut your pieces with and a standard handheld saw can do the trick. I have cut PVC with a hand saw before, though it takes a little longer, it works. Don't bother with black PVC if you got to buy the paint too. Just get the white stuff and the print wipes off with a little acetone. In fact, if you have fingernail polish remover, it will do the same. Keep it simple.

    For anyone wondering, the reason why you have to paint the pipe is because it has writing and / or lines on it.
    I have used PVC before on other projects. Thus, depending on the project, the pipe needs to be painted for a "clean and good look" for the finished design.
    😊
    Edit: A person can use acetone to remove the writing and / or line. I don't use acetone. I'm a girly girl. But I don't polish my nails. Also, remember, the wood needs to be stained or painted. Personally, I'm going to paint the pipe as well. It's just my personal design thing. ✌️

      White really doesn’t need painting it is immaculately shining gloss white. Also writing is minimal and not on all the pipe at all and is easily removed with a solvent and I don’t paint my nails either 😂

      Obviously most of you people haven't used this pipe for it's intended purpose (plumbing) If you had, You would know the ink imprinted on the pipe comes of with alcohol cleaner / primer. Unless you're a dufus & use the purple primer🤣

    This is not PVC, this is ABS. ABS is tougher and strong but doesn’t like direct sunlight. Just a little info.

    As far as the bottle with the removable cork goes I would have left that on because of creepy crawlers getting up in the bottle and building nests also I might suggest taking some glass etch and frosting the outside of the bottle. You could make a design on the with the glass etch to give it a little extra decoration!
